Fish platter with a side of fried shrimp. Cole slaw and fries included.
    James V.

Stopped in to fill our need for energy but with it being Lent for Catholics and you follow the abstaining from meat on Friday's I was looking for a fish option tonight. I was aware of thier shrimp platter which is always a great bargain for $15 but wanted to try the fish plate which is battered cod, and was I pleasantly surprised at how tender it was. I'm not much of a fish guy other than shrimp, crablegs and Lobster. But this was delicious I can't say I would order it as a normal "go to" here because they have other options I really enjoy but I'm really glad I gave it a chance. Still one our favorite places up on the "Hill" Can't go wrong and a little tip if your not happy with your meal as my wife was with hers as her wings were overcooked don't be afraid to let them know they will make it right!

I shared the prime rib special with the added the shrimp with my wife and it was more than both of us could eat. The Blue Cheese dressing was amazing. This place was not that big and it looks like an old '70's Vegas old diner. I bet there are lots of stories in this place. Our waitress did a great job. I would definitely come again!

The Thursday special fried shrimp. I pound of shrimp between to people and we could hardly finish it.

Everything was top notch here. We were greeted before we reached the top of the stairs...we had the special of the day-fried shrimp and added the most delicious wedge salad. Kyle was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Best service we have had since we arrived two days ago and checked in to the Horseshoe. Love this place.

It was okay... I shared the prime rib and shrimp. Salad dressing was awesome. The plate pretty good. This 12 year old palate likes everything that is not exotic in any way. So prime rib was safe.y mom had lobster tail, more like rubber tail. Way over cooked but what can you expect for $21 with a steak. Would I go back, maybe. Staff was nice.

Tasty and affordable spot. Service was quick and friendly. For the total of 28.96 we had tons of left overs between the two of us. Which is unfortunate because we are unable to reheat food at our hotel. I ordered the mushrooms Swiss burger and comes with fries. The burger was cooked perfectly and the bun was soft and toasted. My husband had the loaded potato and fried shrimp. We could have split that meal and would be full. It came with 18 shrimp! with lemon and sauce. Although the loaded baked potato wasn't as loaded as anticipated. Everything was still good. I did have a cup of creamy leek soup. It was delicious! Overall not bad considering the limited restaurant options when staying at one of the casino hotels. We would come back and share a meal.

Good joint. Straightforward American grub. Had the Cuban sammich and it was pretty good for Colorado. Having had real Cuban sandwiches in south Florida, it doesn't compare, but a good effort for Colorado. The service was good and everyone there was pleasant and friendly. I'll definitely go back.

This was my 3rd or 4th time going. Clearly, I am a slow learner, and forgave the experience but this was the last straw. The service is ALWAYS terrible and the food is even worse. I have ordered a different dish every time and everyone them was either cold (left on the cooks counter for the waiter too long) or bland or just plain bad! Last night I ordered tacos. It took forever to even get service, or our food, and there was 6 customers in the whole place. The food came cold but before I knew it was cold, I asked for salsa (it came with none) and took forever to come back. The moment they left for salsa, I took a bite and realized the food was cold (all of it, beans, rice, tacos). I had to go search for them to come back and told them it was cold. They had it remade (took forever) and they salsa was literally stewed tomatoes from the can. This time, the plate was scalding hot and the waitress gave no warning! Now, it was hot and terrible with canned tomatoes for salsa. Ridiculous and they still charged us! I will go to Johnny Z's but will not ever again eat at the Grill!

They make their breads in-house and I would definitely get that again. I also tried some of my friend's banana bread and that was really delicious too. Didn't get a chance to try these since we had to get to the hot springs soon so thought it's too much food to finish in time, but they had a French toast flight and a Benedict flight, which I've never seen before. Pretty cool, I love anything where you can try multiple flavors. Overall, would reccomend this brunch spot in Idaho Springs. Would come back!

Because of the aforementioned altitude sickness, I did not get to enjoy but a few bites of my sandwich there but had it later and find it to be a delicious, hefty sandwich. The fries were very good! I was jealous of my friends french toast as it looked delicious. She reported it was. As well as the bacon. Much like Idaho Springs itself, this is a cute spot. Definitely worth stopping in, as well as visiting the other businesses in their downtown area. Parking is scarce, but there is both a free parking lot, as well as paid street parking.

In those early days, Dostal was a place where people came for a good pizza or sub and enjoyed a little gaming on the side. It was part of the community. Unfortunately, the place today feels like a shell of what it once was. The food has always been average, which is something many customers can accept, but poor and disrespectful service is never acceptable. I brought my concerns to the owner, Lisa, hoping they would be taken seriously, but the response was disappointing and dismissive. It's unfortunate to see a longtime local establishment lose the character it once had. Good food and good ownership go hand in hand, and when both are lacking, customers notice. After many years of supporting Dostal Alley, I won't be returning. Farewell, Dostal Alley.

Of their ciders we had, my favorite was the hibiscus cider and the peach cider, but they also have a good selection beers if ciders aren't your thing. For food we got their Ruben and their Flat-iron Steak. The Ruben was awesome, the sauce was a bit on the sweeter side, but it tasted good while drinking the ciders. But the highlight for me was their flat-iron steak, its a simple cut but it was one of the best steaks I've had in recent memory. I'm not kidding when I say it was on par if not better than a a lot of the steakhouses I've been to, it was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and comes with a solid chimichurri sauce. The food can be delicious and a 10/10 while service can be a 2/10. The reason this is three stars is because of our service. Our waiter was just... really bad. He seemed busy so I guess I'll give him that, but he was so lost. He would come by, ask what we wanted, and then would ask multiple times what we said. And then he took our menus at one point but didn't take our order? Even though we said we wanted to order? Again, just so lost and confused. And what was worse was the fact that when our food came out, it was just the Reuben. We waited, and I kid you not, at least ten minutes for our burgers. I worked in restaurants for 7 years. You bring out food all at once. Because then the Reuben just sat there cold and it's awkward. So. That was really frustrating. The outdoor patio is super cute and they allow dogs which is really nice. But honestly, if you're in the area and want better service, Beaujo's is across the street. Maybe their takeout is better?

However, after staying here, I honestly do not see a solid reason for such a low rating, other than perhaps the elevator situation or people reacting to typical resort food prices. I stay in Las Vegas quite a bit at properties like Bellagio, Encore, and Park MGM, so I have high standards for hotel stays, and Ameristar exceeded our expectations in almost every way. We stayed in one of their pet-friendly rooms with our dog, and it was easily one of the best dog-friendly stays we have ever had. Usually, dog-friendly hotel rooms are a disappointment. They can smell, feel relegated to a run-down wing of the building, and cost a fortune in pet fees. In fact, the only other option in Black Hawk, Lady Luck, charges a steep $75 per night fee. Ameristar charges a very reasonable $50 per stay, which is such a fantastic value. Service was great right from the valet when we pulled up. It is worth noting that there are no dedicated bellmen on staff, but you can easily grab luggage carts from the front desk by leaving your driver's license with them while you unpack. The room itself was clean, spacious, and features a super comfy bed. I loved that there was no carpet in the dog-friendly room, just clean LVP flooring, which makes so much sense for pet stays. The bathroom setup reminded me a lot of Encore, complete with dual sinks, a large soaking tub, a walk-in shower, a private toilet closet, full-size toiletries including lotion (which is so useful in the mountain air), and plenty of extra towels. They catered to our pet so thoughtfully. The room included a nice built-in dog crate, elevated dog bowls with a food mat, an in-room refrigerator to store food, and a sweet welcome bag with goodies like poop bags. A couple of quick operational notes for future guests: a few elevators seemed to be down during our visit, which could cause a bit of a wait during peak hours. Also, the dog relief area is across the street. Traffic over there can be surprisingly busy with people speeding, so just exercise a little caution when crossing with your pet. Overall, do not let the lower review scores scare you off. We were thoroughly impressed by the cleanliness, service, and thoughtful amenities, and we will definitely be back!

I came here for my birthday…read moreexpecting to have a relaxing and fun night, but instead, I ended up spending about an hour dealing with issues with our room before I could even settle in. It was honestly a very disappointing way to start a birthday stay. When we first walked into our room, I was immediately shocked by how dirty it was. There was dirt on the bed, crumbs everywhere, and the room just did not feel like it had been properly cleaned before we arrived. I understand that hotels can occasionally miss something during housekeeping, but this was more than just one small oversight. When you're paying to stay at a hotel, especially for a birthday celebration, you expect the room to be clean and ready when you arrive. We ended up getting switched to another room, but unfortunately, that room had cleanliness issues too. The tub and toilet were dirty, which was extremely frustrating after we had already gone through the trouble of changing rooms. At that point, I was just hoping we could finally settle in and enjoy the night without having to deal with another issue. Then, the next morning, I woke up with bug bites on my legs and abdomen. I obviously can't say for certain what caused the bites or that there are bedbugs at the hotel, but given everything else that had already happened with the cleanliness of the rooms, it was definitely concerning and made me question the cleanliness of the room even more. That was not exactly how I wanted to wake up after coming here for my birthday. Unfortunately, even the actual casino came with its own issue because the craps machine ended up taking my money, and a formal investigation had to be done on the machine. I understand that technical issues can happen, but when you're already dealing with multiple problems during your stay, having another unexpected issue just adds to the frustration. I really wanted this to be a fun and relaxing birthday stay, but instead, I spent a significant amount of time dealing with problems that I shouldn't have had to deal with in the first place. Having to switch rooms because the first one was dirty, finding cleanliness issues in the second room, waking up with unexplained bites, and then having an issue with the casino machine made the entire experience feel like more hassle than it was worth. The pool, hot tub, and casino had some positives, but unfortunately, those things weren't enough to make up for everything else. This was my first time staying at Ameristar, and based on this experience, I don't think I'll be rushing back. I usually stay at the Monarch, and after this trip, I think I'll be keeping it that way. For what I expected to be a relaxing birthday getaway, it was way more stressful than it needed to be.
