Great service, great food. Gorgeous atmosphere, nice flowers and views on the patio day. We had the rotisserie chicken, duck fat fries, garlic fries, summer salad & fried chicken sandwich

Love this place! Food is made to order and tasty! My son and I enjoyed an afternoon snack and I had a Stem Cider. We will be back soon for lunch. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked wonderful. Pricing is very reasonable. Atmosphere is relaxed and service is on point. Location can't be beat! *note, we dined here in September 2025*

Cutest little place with outdoor and indoor seating. Best duck fat fries around! And lots of different options!

Do not order the rot chicken sandwich, expensive and toilet paper would taste better. Long wait, the cashier rude. Not worthy.

If you're history buff, I encourage you to read about the history of each of the train cars on their website. Though the business has only been around for a few years, one of the cars was built in 1906, and all of them have a unique story to their name. As far as the shop is concerned, it's a standard cafe with coffee, tea, and breakfast food options. With the addition of kava if that's your jam. The best part of this place is checking out the various train cars, all different with various types of seating options. We ordered coffees, sandwiches, and their self-proclaimed "world famous" mini donuts. The sandwiches came out piping hot. I was actually impressed with the bacon egg and cheese. Generous serving of egg, especially. Much better than the bagel spot around the corner! The donuts were good, but you really need to eat them right away while they're hot. Nice addition of the maple bacon, and solid portion to split between a few people. Considering a few places I enjoyed going to in Nederland have changed concepts, I definitely prefer coming to Train Cars Coffee and Kava. Looking forward to trying them again and seeing more of what they offer!

Walking in on a cold February day, the mood and ambiance were warm and inviting. The downstairs bar was lively, and the wood ceiling and decor definitely gave off a classic aged lodge feel. We were seated upstairs per our Yelp reservations. A collection of canteens hung on the wall, which sparked a fun conversation and history lesson for my twins. Since they're part of the CamelBak and Stanley cup generation, they hadn't seen anything like them before. My son was impressed by the size of the kids' burger, and the fries were great. The rest of us had the NY Strip. I'd say it was good, but not great--though I did appreciate the blackened seasoning and the chimichurri. The grilled asparagus, however, was simply fantastic. The showstopper was the upside-down apple pie with what seemed to be homemade vanilla ice cream. Both were generous portions and kindly comped by our server for my birthday. I ordered my standard Ranch Water, though it unfortunately didn't come in their traditional canteen cup. Overall, it's a great spot. I look forward to visiting again on our next trip to Colorado.

The only thing I didn't like as much was the hashbrowns, they were just okay. I also ordered the jalapeño bread French toast (recommended by our server). I love jalapeño flavor, but I remember thinking it sounded kind of weird for French toast... but I'm glad I tried it because it was so good. They make their breads in-house and I would definitely get that again. I also tried some of my friend's banana bread and that was really delicious too. Didn't get a chance to try these since we had to get to the hot springs soon so thought it's too much food to finish in time, but they had a French toast flight and a Benedict flight, which I've never seen before. Pretty cool, I love anything where you can try multiple flavors. Overall, would reccomend this brunch spot in Idaho Springs. Would come back!

She was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. I ordered the Reuben (currently $18.50) with a cup of their green chili soup ($6.00). The Reuben was outstanding--perfectly grilled with a crispy rye, flavorful corned beef, and just the right balance of Swiss, sauerkraut, and dressing. The green chili soup was rich, comforting, and packed with great Colorado flavor. My wife built her own burger and upgraded to the house salad instead of fries. Everything was fresh, cooked exactly as ordered, and delicious. This has become one of our must-stop restaurants whenever we're headed to Vail. Great food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere every time. Highly recommended--we'll definitely be back!

I mean there's a huge box of fries outside. Well today I wasn't prepared for what we experienced. The place was filled with shot glasses. Cool looking place what's seems to be in the middle of nowhere. This dude greets us introducing himself as "Roy" the owner. He welcomes us and literally gives us the behind the scenes tour of the kitchen and the freezer. What can I say, when you get an unscheduled tour on a Sunday morning and the kitchen and surrounding areas are clean and organized that's a good place. This guy and his wife Barbra run it. He's super cool and self admitted a bit crude but fun nonetheless. He told us we could order anything even if it wasn't on the menu. Sunday everything on the special menu is $10. Next week he's doing a fried chicken buffet for FREE. He says once he didn't have anything and just like doing it for people. He's 72 full of life and maybe a little full of crap but totally fun and friendly. Good food, good service and a fun place on the "peak to peak highway" just outside Blackhawk. The parking lot is fairly small, but there is additional parking available across the street the grocery store (not sure if you can park there but it worked for us). The menu looked solid, with a few things that caught my eye (albeit on the pricier side for a more casual spot). I ended up ordering the Colorado trout filet, and it was definitely the highlight for me. The trout was cooked well, very flavorful, and topped with a cilantro-lime sauce that paired well with it. It came with roasted corn and potatoes, which were both tasty, although I do wish there had been a little more of each. My fiancée ordered the beets and Bibb salad and added chicken. Unfortunately, the chicken was probably the weakest part of the meal. It was fairly dry and didn't have much flavor. Overall, though, we had a good experience at Bird & Jim. The trout was exactly what I was looking for: light, healthy, & flavorful. There are quite a few other things on the menu I'd like to try, so we'd open to returning next time we are in the area.

I really like Johnny Z's but I can honestly say one is better of going to the sandwich counter…read moredownstairs or the Bistro restaurant upstairs, than "The Grill!" This was my 3rd or 4th time going. Clearly, I am a slow learner, and forgave the experience but this was the last straw. The service is ALWAYS terrible and the food is even worse. I have ordered a different dish every time and everyone them was either cold (left on the cooks counter for the waiter too long) or bland or just plain bad! Last night I ordered tacos. It took forever to even get service, or our food, and there was 6 customers in the whole place. The food came cold but before I knew it was cold, I asked for salsa (it came with none) and took forever to come back. The moment they left for salsa, I took a bite and realized the food was cold (all of it, beans, rice, tacos). I had to go search for them to come back and told them it was cold. They had it remade (took forever) and they salsa was literally stewed tomatoes from the can. This time, the plate was scalding hot and the waitress gave no warning! Now, it was hot and terrible with canned tomatoes for salsa. Ridiculous and they still charged us! I will go to Johnny Z's but will not ever again eat at the Grill!
