I've learnt a very valuable lesson here: that some French cuisine needs to be enjoyed by a special kind of connoisseur (in which group I am not included). My workplace took a longtime client to this upscale restaurant - thinking we would splurge on something fancy - and watched in increasing horror as her expression vividly displayed her gradually losing all patience. Quite fascinating, honestly. The menu showed about 7-8 courses - perhaps that should have been our warning. The canapés arrived after an appropriate wait and we all exclaimed over the delicately pretty dish, which offered a unique combination of flavours and textures. Being bitesized, this was finished in under 5 minutes. The amuse-bouche looked equally stunning but did not taste as impressive, a bit on the bland size. Then came an unexpectedly long 30 minute wait for our first main course, followed by almost equally long waits for the other courses. At around the two hour mark we signalled to the server to speed up the service but the meal was finished only after three hours. To clarify, the food was lovely - there is no doubt at all that tremendous thought had gone into every single detail and every dish was a feast for the eyes. The waitstaff we had was polite and accommodating (to the best of his ability). But because the pacing of the service was so long, I don't think we could enjoy everything to the fullest. Hence, I wouldn't recommend this place for lunch - unless you and your group are all prepared to miss work in the afternoon.

If you want to enjoy truly great French food in the heart of downtown Toronto, I'd highly recommend this spot. There are many places around, but the service and atmosphere here really stand out. I honestly went in with low expectations since it was just mentioned in the Michelin guide, but it completely surpassed them. The food was flavorful and beautifully presented, the servers were warm and attentive, and the open kitchen added a sense of cleanliness and trust that I really appreciated. What impressed me most was how balanced everything felt--the quality of the dishes, the thoughtful wine pairing suggestions, and the cozy yet modern vibe of the dining room. It's one of those places where you feel taken care of from the moment you walk in until the moment you leave. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a memorable fine dining experience

This is going to sound strange, but Lucie's hospitality reminds me of an immigrant parents' love towards their children. The care they show may not be excessively warm, attentive, or frequent, but deep down you can sense they care and will nurture where it matters most. For example, they ensure you don't make any rash decisions while hungry. Before you're even presented with a menu or asked about drink preferences, Lucie ensures you're hydrated with water and fed. A structure of canapés is presented that pays tribute to Chef Arnaud Bloquel's grandfather who tended to the family farm. After his morning tasks, he'd sit under an apricot tree enjoying the fruits of his labor. And hence, our first bites contain ingredients that could be found on a farm: A tube made from crispy potato filled with duck terrine and tartare. It's a bite mixed with flavours and textures, awfully delicate but hearty as well. The thumb of toasted brioche with radish and cheese wasn't as great but offered an earthy rustic flavour that screamed of rural life. And lastly, a sweet pea tart that looks light but covers a bed of herring mousse, so you're greeted with a smoky briny punch. If your interest and taste buds weren't present, they will be after these first bites. Now let's start talking menus. Once I saw the words 'beef Wellington', I knew the L'Experience Pithivier tasting menu ($160 per person) was the way to go. We decided against the wine pairing ($80 for half pairing and $130 for full) and treated ourselves to a glass of champagne instead ($45 for a glass of Perrier-Jouet Grand Brut). The champagne cart was pushed over and the glasses poured with efficiency and without fan fare. Once whisked away, I looked down and was delighted by the procession of bubbles that rose from the specially dimpled glasses. The sommelier didn't need to point out the feature, like an immigrant parent he allowed us to discover the special touches ourselves. Not long after ordering an amuse bouche arrives: a dome filled with refreshing trout tartare topped with a vibrant basil sorbet that's unexpectedly creamy and adds a wonderful element to the dish. With a choice of two starters, the l'asperge verte offered me a taste of hopefully the first fruits of Ontario asparagus. The tender spears were lightly barbecued and adorned with a rich egg yolk sauce and lemon foam. On the side, a tart that's described as being hazelnut based and topped with caviar - an atypical combination that works and was flavourful but light. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest of

This French restaurant has some of the best service, and the food resembles art. Every morsel is a delicious experience and will transport you to Europe. We had the blind 7 course tasting menu, and while I am not normally a seafood fan, nor an exotic meat fan, every dish was so incredibly flavourful and decadent. I loved the atmosphere, with muted blue leather benches, the plates are ornate and the cutlery is beautiful. This is a restaurant you come to in order to celebrate special occasions. The Chef comes out to greet you and even brings some of the dishes out himself. The menu is seasonal and changes every three months. I enjoyed the venison, the foie gras, the scallops and lobster. Be prepared to be WOWED at this Michelin recommended restaurant.

Lucie is on the list of Michelin selected good cooking restaurant and I finally tried this restaurant recently. All the dishes here were beautifully presented but with small portion and relatively pricey. Expect $100+ per person for small eater. They offered both a la carte and set menu for lunch. I got the 3-course menu for $75 plus they charge $9 for sparkling water. The meal came with complimentary trout appetizer and bread. The trout was sour and tasted especially refreshing with the flavour of the strawberry cubes, very suitable for the hot weather. The bread was okay but not wowing. My friend ordered the trout for appetizer and my set menu had the scallop as appetizer. Both were super delicious! The scallop dish again had refreshing taste highlighted by the green mango and the scallop was very fresh. For mains, I chose the trout with peas. Green peas were suitable for the season but it had canned vegetable taste and the trout was not as fresh as I expected. I didn't enjoy the main dish as much as the appetizers. The set meal came with a pear sorbet plus a pear shaped chocolate dessert stuffed with pear and cream. It was beautiful but the taste was ordinary. The creamy flavour overpowered the taste of the chocolate. I actually enjoyed the complimentary desserts much more than the pear chocolate. They were served in a "mystery box" with desserts hidden in different drawers. The macaroon and the two chocolate desserts were all very good, and went quite well with their good quality latte. Lucie generally offers good service, delicious food with smaller portion which is very suitable for girls' date. For gentlemen, I would suggest to order meat dish for mains or choose 4-course menu at least considering the small size of the dish.

Lucie is best visited when someone else is paying. It can get quite expensive. Some justified, the food, and some not so much, the wine and water prices. There is no denying that the artistry of the dishes is impressive and a culinary adventure. Table for four on a Saturday night. We all had the 3 course set menu. There is no a la carte options. It's either a 3 course or 6 course meal. We had the 3 for $140 each. While it's 3 courses the chef includes some additional surprises along the way that were the highlight of the meal. They also do a great job of explaining the ingredients in each dish to enhance the experience. To start, after a first chef surprise, I had the Foie Gras which was melt in your mouth good. The other three had the Venison Ravioli (Raviolo would be more accurate - only one served). They all seemed impressed. As a main we each had the Le Canard - Duck "A l'orange". This was good. Duck is always a favorite of mine. For dessert I had the Choux Pastry, Hazelnut Praline. While it didn't wow me I did enjoy it. The Chocolat dessert was likely the way to go. The dishes are all small but they did offer bread to help fill us up. We did have a mishap on the wine. First, while the menu is impressive with wines ranging to $10K a bottle I found that the options for Reds around $150 were limiting. We did choose one but it was off or as their Sommelier called it "rude". Oddly he gave the impression that they were aware of issues with this wine but still were serving it. He did graciously bring out two other bottles that were not on the menu at the same price range to choose from. The second bottle was fine but since it was brought directly from the cellar it was served too cold. Had to wait quite some time until it was drinkable. Perhaps the wine pairing at $95 each was a better way to go. Another small item that bothered me was San Pellegrino at $9 a bottle. It's a bit rich and unnecessary. I'm well aware of what that water really costs. At least get a more exotic French water if you'd like to charge that much. Service was impeccable. Ambiance wise it really feels more like it's meant for an executive business lunch - and ideally one where someone else is paying.

This review is for the lunch prix fixe. I have been meaning to try this spot after the very positive feedback from the food forum community. Good stuff as I was so impressed that I will come back dinner soon. The ambiance is very nice though I don't recall what occupied this spot before. It's even connected to the path if you are inclined not to leave it certain parts of the year. I have egg, scallops and lemon dessert set. All of the items including the freebie of bread were very good. One can do quite bad in this area for similar priced lunch. Place holder for now for a return dinner. Highly recommended

I had the pleasure of visiting Lucie with a friend for a collaborative dinner tasting featuring a guest chef from Antler. Every dish was beautifully presented and tasted exceptional--not a single one disappointed us. The ambiance was elegant and inviting, perfect for a special occasion or a memorable evening out. Lucie is definitely a high-end dining experience, so be prepared to spend over $100 per person. Our tasting menu for the evening was $350 each, but it was absolutely worth every penny. Great service as well, every dish was given an explanation of what it was and how the chef intended it to taste. Definitely a restaurant I'd recommend for a night of fine dining!

We went here for a birthday dinner and the ambiance is laidback and upscale. The service here is impeccable, they really pay attention to detail and go above and beyond. A lot of the staff speak French and are very knowledgeable on the food and wine. We did a 6 course tasting menu that included some free little tasters from the chef. The presentation is spectacular and all dishes used elevated ingredients. For a special occasion, I highly recommend going to Lucie!

It was my birthday. Complimentary dessert and a lovely card.

LOVED not only the food but the whole exceptional, fine French dining experience. My partner booked this restaurant for my birthday. We were discussing on whether we should go for Table d'Hôte (multi-course meals with only a few choices, $130) or Tasting Menu ($220 with more choices) for a few days (!) and we decided on Table d'Hote as we were interested in their cocktails (they were exceptional as well!) and wines besides the food. Also, we joked that, if we were younger - we would go for the Tasting Menu plus whatever the drinks we want - we know our stomach is not as big as a decade ago lol. We were right - SUPER satisfied with everything - food, drinks and services - the whole experience! After we ordered, enjoying the cocktails (Lucie Royale & Emotion Noire - both excellent, esp liked Emotion Noire), we were greeted by the chef. The following appetizers (not in the menu) were brought to the table before the actual course started. - Canapés (Rabbit confit) - Amuse-bouche (Buckwheat based soup with smoky bacon and roasted almond with egg croutons - OMG) - Les Entrées (Jelly with crab meat, formed cheese on top with caviar) - A wheel of Parmigiano snack Then the Table d'Hôte course started - Our choices are the following. # Les Entrées - Le Foie Gras : It came in the form of Terrine with a distinct flavor of truffle. Came with a brioche. - Le Boeuf : Tasty and enjoyable. The taste of fresh beef is enhanced by a hint of smoked seafood flavor. LOVED it. # Les Plats - Le Homard (Whole Nova Scotia lobster, confit potato, Comté cheese Armagnac and arabica sauce). I enjoyed the sauce that is condensed with lobster, brandy and a hint of coffee taste. - L'Agneau (Provencal Roasted Ontario lamb rack, green olive cream, Chickpea, reduction jus). Super tender, came in with different parts of lamb. # Les Desserts - Le Citron - Le Café Moka All the food had innovative and perfect combination of taste, flavor and textures, which not only hits the 5 senses of tastes, but stimulates visual sensation as well - all the presentations were meticulously artistic. At the end, we were served with a complimentary dessert for me, a birthday gal (lol) - marshmallows and chocolate - upscale version of smore - and a lovely birthday card! The gentleman who attended our table was entertaining and friendly. The sommelier was knowledgeable and her suggestion was to the point. Food was served well timed. One of the best dining experiences that I ever had. Thank you!

I was visiting Toronto for a work trip. After looking at local restaurants and not being particularly impressed with the selections, I opted for southern French cuisine, one of my favorites. They had a low key 4 course tasting menu at the bar that caught my eye. It came with a bunch of extra's from the chef. Throughout the meal, I kept googling to see if they had a Michelin star. I've dined at so many and this one had all the components. Great service, cool ambience, and creatively delicious food. One way I've always found food to be Michelin level is that each bite brings forth flavors that change throughout the duration of the bite. This one definitely had it. Pricing was great for this level of food. I would definitely experience this before they get that Michelin star, because it'll be at least double.

The highlights were the beef wellington and la noisette dessert which had choux pastry. The bread offering was nice too. The rest of the meal didn't taste good. Friendly service. The ambiance is nice but kinda boring.

You can feel the Paris inspiration the moment you walk in, from the chic brass-accented bar to the warm ambient lighting and stylish design. We went for a Saturday dinner at 7pm and surprisingly had no trouble booking a last-minute reservation. We started with cocktails -- the Beurre Noisette (Brown Butter Spring Mills Whisky, Spice Rack Demerara, Aged Bitters) and the Eau Poivre (Tromba Blanco Tequila, Del Maguey Vida Mezcal, Cointreau, White Pepper, Lime, Cucumber Bitters). Both drinks were beautifully presented and tasted delicious. For starters, we had two French Onion Soups (rich beef broth, red wine, caramelized onion, toasted baguette, and Gruyère cheese), which were seriously comforting and, in my opinion, some of the best French onion soups in the city. We also shared the escargots with garlic, butter, parsley, lemon, and brioche -- classic and satisfying. For mains, my date ordered the Duck Confit Cassoulet with Herbes de Provence sausage, lardons, white beans, tomato, parsley, and jus, and I had the Beef Bourguignon with braised beef, pomme purée with carrots, pearl onions, mushrooms, and bordelaise. Both dishes were beautifully cooked and rich in flavour. We finished with crème brûlée (vanilla bean custard with Chantilly and berries) and lemon curd cheesecake (pâte sablée with lemon curd and blueberries). Both desserts were a lovely finish to the meal. The place was busy without feeling chaotic, and the service was friendly and professional, even if a little slower than I expected. The food was delicious overall and showed quality and creativity. The room was a bit chilly for my liking. I ended up draping my coat over my lap to stay warm (I get cold easily, though). Frenchy is a beautiful spot for date night or a special dinner, and I'd happily return to try more from the menu.

We ordered the featured cocktail (big rock candy) and spirit free to enjoy throughout our meal. The cocktail was on the sweet side but the tequila really helped balance out the sweetness. It also came with a mini skewer of candy that you can munch on. For starters, we ordered the beef tartare and the smoked trout tostada. Both were beautifully presented and well balanced. The beef tartare was rich and clean in flavour, while the smoked trout tostada felt lighter and refreshing, making it a great contrast to begin the meal. For mains, we both chose the Alberta beef. The beef itself was cooked nicely and very tender, but paired with the mashed potato and truffle mushroom cream sauce, the dish leaned on the heavier side. Comforting and indulgent, though a bit rich after a full appetizer course. Dessert wrapped things up on a high note with the chocolate tart and pudding chômeur. I loveeed the flavor profile of this as it tasted like it was made with a darker chocolate so it wasn't too sweet and the chantilly had hints of coconut flavor in it :D I just felt very full afterwards because the portions of all the food were so large haha (not a complaint, I swear) The french onion soup here is also very good but my god, get the chicken liver parfait unless that isn't something up your alley! Our server was also amazing and told us they could bring us more bread if needed for the chicken liver parfait and they also checked in on us at the right times and not when my mouth was full of food - it makes all the difference, truly :D

I made a dinner reservation at Aloette Bay during Winterlicious 2026 in Feb to celebrate my…read moreboyfriend's birthday! The location is at the new CIBC Square Food Court and this restaurant is with a Michelin Guide recommendation. The staff was attentive, she messaged me a day before to check-in on our preferences. The restaurant was small than I expected with bar setting, sofa tables, and regular tables. I love the atmosphere there, classy and cozy. We ordered the 3-courses Winterlicious menu. We had Octopus Carpaccio, Forie Gras Parfait as appetiser. Both were delicious, a little bit sour for the Carpaccio, but the Parfait was perfect. For Main, we had Short ribs steak and house-made pasta, the portion of the short ribs steak was a little bit small, but the steak is tender. For dessert, the waitress recommended us for Biscoff Cake, which was a unique item for Winterlicious. I love the cake, it was soft and creamy. Overall, it was a great dining experience, good for dating and celebration.

However, the restaurant cleared out within about 30 minutes once the rush was over. This was Aloette's first year participating in Licious, and their lunch menu offered either 2 courses ($39) or 3 courses ($46). My friend and I decided to share one dessert between us. Everything we ordered was delicious and beautifully presented. The wedge salad was super fresh, and the foie gras parfait was very well executed. Both the signature Aloette burger with Beaufort cheese and the fried chicken sandwich were excellent. But the highlight was the lemon meringue pie! The lemon curd and meringue were some of the best I've ever tasted. Oh, I almost forgot to mention their cheddar cheese bread! Sooo good! I'm officially a fan of Aloette!
