We celebrated a dear friend's birthday. It was a grand time! This is an extremely popular gourmet dining experience, be sure to book 2-3 weeks in advance! Not only does it have a great atmosphere but the food was delicious as well. The pistachio cheesecake and maple bourbon creme brûlée were the winners among the three desserts we chose. The grand marnier olive oil cake wasn't bad but it wasn't memorable. Among the appetizers we had calamari and the mushroom toast. Hands down, the mushroom toast knocked our taste buds out of the park! Incredibly flavorful & delicious!! Definitely recommend if you enjoy mushrooms! For the main course, one of us had the branzino which was pleasingly plated, I had the rig and goose with chicken added and it was an abundant amount, that I had it for three meals. For a cocktail I had the chai tai? It was so good! I ordered two! With such a nice atmosphere and great food this is a place to celebrate special occasions. First time I had ever been there. My son, daughter-in-law and her mother went. The atmosphere is amazing to say the least. Our waiter was great also! I ordered the Hunters Sausage - it was so good!!! The mushroom toast and Bruschetta for appetizers are an excellent choice. My son and I ordered the Tiramisu for dessert and OMG how fabulous!!! Like high tech chic atmosphere. The food is just as perceived! The Chef came out to make sure everything was good. And he made sure to let me know everything is made fresh! And it sure is. First time here at this location and it's very different from the original. Very modern decor and contemporary feel. Started with the clams and it was delicious with a good portion size, just needed 2 more toast triangle. Wanted the tomahawk Marsala but we're told it's been discontinued which is a shame because it looked delicious. For dinner I had the gamberi pasta and hubby had the wild boar. This restaurant really puts on a wow factor in every aspect. You know you're in a top notch restaurant when you see the workers using an actual iron to iron the table cloths prior to setting the table. We parked in a parking lot for free that was attached to the building. As soon as we walked in, the host was pleasant and welcoming. The courses were all paced well which is wonderful. We started with the mussels which had a tomato/ ratatouille-esc sauce. The mushroom toast was ok.. would've liked to see multiple kinds of mushrooms used. The portions are HUGE. The portions are 3x the amount of a normal recommended meal size but who can complain? The desserts were also as superb as the meals. The Maple bourbon crème brûlée had just the right amount of maple flavor. The Chocolate cake was moist and the layers were all the right amount to contribute as a whole. The waiter recommended the Torta di mele. It was kinda like a combination of a crisp/ crostada. The caramel icecream with this paired so well. This place knocks every other restaurant near it out of the park. I hope to return again! read more

The ambience at Luce Secondo is elegant, lively, and chic although when we entered through the parking garage entrance, the foyer was quite dark and we didn't know which way to turn, so that was a little off-putting. (Next time: Turn right then left.) Fortunately or maybe just coincidentally, a hostess found us. She led us to the hostess table at the main entrance on the other side of the restaurant and we were led to our table after she checked on our reservations. (Note that reservations result in a nonrefundable $25 deposit per guest so you'd better not change your mind and fail to show!) We were provided menus and the extensive wine list. A list of artisinal waters was on the table. After that, it was about 10 minutes before anyone on the wait staff took notice of us but that was the last snag in our dining experience. Several of the wait staff were apologetic about the delay. Our wine selection was graciously served by the sommelier Cole and the artisinal sparkling water was a nice accompaniment. The mussels appetizer was quite generous and served in a tomato broth that took on a smoky taste from the bits of guanciale in the sauce. The crusty bread helped soak up the delicious sauce when the mussels were finished. (A separate plate on which to place the empty shells would have been nice.) My veal saltimbocca was a generous serving of two slices of veal topped with thin slices of ham in a scrumptious sauce with sautéed spinach topped with a hard cooked egg. My son's duck confit ragu was delicious. My wife had the shrimp with shaved asparagus in a lemon cream sauce but she was unable to detect any lemon whatsoever so she requested a slice to add her own. We also requested ground pepper to further season the dish. Desserts were good;the serving of coulis over the mascarpone cake was too scarce to really appreciate. The lemon sorbet was fresh and generous. The olive oil cake was firm but melted in the mouth and was just sweet enough. I would definitely return to Luce Secondo to celebrate another special meal because my overall impression was very positive. I hope that management takes my more critical comments as slight areas for improvement. read more

I love Luce Segundo and have been multiple times (phenomenal every time). Most recently, I went with my wife and parents to celebrate my father's birthday. We shared the Carpaccio di Manzo as an appetizer and the steak was tender and delicious. I had a new dish as my entree, Lobster Rockefeller Fusilli. I loved the combination of lobster, pork, spinach, and fresh pasta. My wife had the Rig and Goose with sausage added. I tried some and found it to be one of their tastiest dishes. The vodka sauce really stands out. For dessert, we shared the olive oil cake and really enjoyed it. The cake was very moist and a little savory. We will definitely be back. Wow! We heard high praise for this spot from my mother-in-law's friend group so we booked our reservation a few weeks ago and came last night for a family dinner night. The inside is beautiful - as we expected. It's very elegant and classy. The decor is gorgeous in every aspect all the way to the wallpaper and finished in both the men's and women's restrooms. No detail has been overlooked with the real showpiece as the gorgeous bar area. This is def. a place to bring someone you are trying to impress. Our first table was seated right in front of the band so we asked to be moved which was easily done. The menu is large with a lot of items to choose from and they had about 4 specials as well so I had a bit of trouble deciding what to order. We ordered fresh warm bread for the table - $3.50 which was grilled with some butter/oil and cheese on top. Delicious. My husband and I split the Cesar salad which was OK but nothing special. For entrees - we tried the following: -Tonno e Verdure - a grilled Ahi tuna salad with fresh greens, red onions, cannellini beans, tomatoes, pan-crusted pancetta with house-infused citrus oil for $18. A good portion and my mother-in-law loved it. -Wild Boar Ragu - Cinghiale ragu over pappardelle pasta with roasted pulled Cinghiale, rosemary infused oil, shaved Parmigiano Reggiano for $29. My stepson cleaned his plate - he loved it. Said the pasta was delicious. -Spaghetti della Pescatore- shrimp, clams, mussels, calamari, tomato passata, and spaghetti for $29. My husband and his dad ordered this one and both loved it. My husband cleaned his plate and it was a large portion. -Rig and Goose- Grey Goose vodka, tomatoes, shallot, red pepper puree, fresh basil, Pecorino Romano, rigatoni pasta for $27. This was my choice - light and delicious and I had them add some spinach for me. For dessert - I wanted the Tiramisu, my all-time favorite, but I was advised that the Torta di Mele was a better choice. This is a baked torta with Disaronno simmered apples, a lemon zest crumb crust and topped with salted caramel gelato - served warm. $13. Hubs loves apple pie so this was a hit with him and it was delicious. We got several Americano coffees to enjoy with dessert and the coffee was delicious - some of the best I've had at a restaurant in a long time and I love to follow dinner with coffee. If you love a good Americano - this is the spot to try it. Service was wonderful - Marcus took excellent care of us from start to finish and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal, the pace, and the atmosphere with light jazz music played by a live band. Originally I wanted to book a reservation for Valentine's Day at their original location in Norfolk, but it was already booked out, so I decided to reserve a time for here instead. I don't think I missed out though, this place was beautiful! The lighting was dim, but not dark, just enough to wanna focus on who you're with. Almost like it was lit with candles everywhere. The decor was modern, and I enjoyed how the tables were spaced out enough to not have neighbors. I liked how you could also see the kitchen, but the kitchen was quiet enough to where you didn't notice them too much. It was also small, which was kinda crazy to me, but they all worked so well in there together. Our waiter was nice, knew the menu well, and even the wine I picked out. I chose the cheapest cab they had, and he said as it breathed the flavor would develop more, and sure enough it did! We got the calamari as well as their wagu meatball special for appetizers. The calamari was the best I've ever had. It was so tender, perfectly cooked, and breaded lightly enough to where you get a good crunch, but can enjoy the squid still. They must get it relatively fresh or something, because it had no trace of rubberiness, and it didn't curl at all. The marinara sauce that came with was also such a nice addition, it wasn't an overpowering marinara like usual, it was just like the essence of tomato with a few seasonings. I will go back there just for that appetizer. As for the meatballs, they were also cooked perfectly. Seasoned well, it was like eating juicy better tasting beef. The marinara sauce served coating it was the same as the calamari, so just letting the meat shine with flavor more so than letting the sauce carry the dish. It was also served with pesto crostinis, which was a nice vessel for the beef. I honestly wish I could try all of the appetizers, they all sound so mouthwatering. As for our main dishes, we got wild boar ragu, and the pesci macchiato. I had a taste off my boyfriend's plate of the ragu, and it was one of my favorite pastas I've ever had. The boar wasn't gamey, it was like a better version of beef, and the sauce was really nice as well. As for my dish, I thought it was just okay. There wasn't really a sauce, so I had to kinda take a bite of everything for it to taste nice. As for clams, I couldn't really see or taste much of them. The halibut was cooked well though, and I enjoyed that it wasn't overly seasoned or anything. I wish I could've enjoyed it more on its own though, instead of having to have almost every pasta bite with it. Pastas were good consistency, mine had a few noodles stuck together, but other than that they were nice. I'm not gonna judge too harshly for 1/4 things we ordered not being the best thing ever, next time I'll just try something else. We would've ordered dessert, but I had made a cake for the occasion we had at home, next time I come I will be ordering something though. read more

We came here for the first time with a group of girlfriend friends +a 10 month old. We are walking in and ask for a highchair as we're going to be seated. The hostess looked a little surprised at our questions and said yeah, she will get on it. We sit down by 8pm order drinks apps and entrees. About 830 we get our 2 apps and I ask for the highchair. The server looks stunned and says "we don't have high chairs here, or booster seats or any of that kinda stuff. The owner doesn't really like...yeah" 1) had no idea this restaurant we picked was basically anti kid, 2) why would they say they'd get the highchair in the beginning if they don't have any? 3) if we were told in the beginning we surely would've went somewhere else So that was definitely annoying to uncover as we're waiting for our food. Okay it's after 920 at this point and we ordered the 4 pasta dishes and pizza and hour and 20 minutes ago??? It's after 930 and we still didn't receive our food. The baby doesnnot want to be held anymore at this point so we ask for our food to be packed in to go boxes . The server apologized and said the kitchen was behind but she told the manager. We finally left by 940 with food very disappointed. We finally got home and got to eat and the food was delicious but it was a horrible experience at the restaurant. read more

Staff was super friendly as you'd expect at a place with this price point and repertoire. The sauce was really really good... slightly sweet, delicious, savory flavor, and the perfect viscosity. The rigatoni was al dente. The shrimp were perfectly cooked. I added 8 shrimp but would've been satisfied with 4. Also shared a slice of the pistachio cheesecake which had great flavor but I would've liked it to have more crust and have the colder, thicker consistency I think of when I have cheesecake. This place is on the expensive side. It's great for special occasions, I'd recommend budgeting at least $140.00 for two people including tax and tip. If you wanna go for one of the more expensive items like the ribeye steak, that will get you to $100.00 on its own. Really classy vibe, all guests are nicely dressed, front of house captain's wear suits. While I was there they had a small jazz duo playing music. This was our second time at Luce and it was as delicious as the first. Love the ambiance here - the restaurant is beautiful. Perfect for a special occasion or date night. They had live music playing Friday evening which was a really nice touch. It was pretty busy on a late Friday nite as we had reservations at 830pm. We started out with wine and the charcuterie board which is perfect to share because it's big. Everything on there was delicious - different meats, cheeses, pickled veggies, crackers and roasted garlic which was my fave. We ordered our entrees and they came out quick. The pastas here are cooked to perfection and very very good!! I was surprised to see a huge dessert menu, it was hard to choose. I went with the olive oil cake and our friends went with the maple bourbon crème brûlée. The olive oil cake was amazing and highly recommend. Loved everything here. We were a few minutes early and sat in the bar/lounge area until seated. Staff was plentiful and our server was very attentive. Appetizers were a challenge to choose as it was not clear that some items were not cooked or only seared. We had to ask regarding several items. The menu could be clarify this. Our entrees came out and I was shocked that the scallops on my plate were a total of three! This was a $40 plate. My wife's halibut order came out with maybe two ounces of fish, a scallop that was larger than the three I had and a prawn. She ordered this dish wanting the halibut based on the waitress' recommendation and had no idea there were additional seafood items on it. She was not a fan of the prawn. I observed the floor manager go to many customers' tables, but we did not get a visit. My one-word summation would have been, "underwhelming"! This was a special occasion (my birthday) and one of my wife's gifts to me. The $170 tab (no drinks ordered) was over the top for the meals we received. Only our second time at Luce and probably our last. The decor and noise levels were good, but the subwoofer was getting too much of a workout. I do not know what the goal is for their background music, but the thump of the bass register was readily present. read more

This might be one of my favorite restaurants based on decor and interior design alone. I haven't seen another restaurant in the hampton roads with the level of detail in in the decor. I love the space and the ambience gives bougie and rich. I went for drinks only with my family and it was a good time. I had a spritzer drink x 2 and it was good both times. My first review ever and my first visit to Luce (Chesapeake). Food, wine list and atmosphere were all amazing. My complaint is I ordered a pasta dish and added chicken. Plate arrived w/o chicken and sent back. 3 others in my group were finished eating by the time mine arrived. When mentioned to the manager his response was, "well it looks like it's been taken care of". No discount offered or apology for having to eat later than the rest of the table. Luce is our favorite Italian restaurant in the area, so when we saw that they were opening a bigger establishment, we were thrilled! We lucked out scoring a last minute Valentine's day reservation. It was the perfect place to celebrate and feel fancy for the night. There aren't too many places in the area where a dress and heels is appropriate, but this is one of them. The menu offers lots of high-quality options, so it's always a bit hard to choose. We started with glasses of wine. They have an extensive bottle menu and a nice array of wine by the glass. For appetizers, we had the Mussels and the Carpaccio. The mussels were the star of the show. I enjoyed the carpaccio but my husband was not as thrilled by it. I was surprised because carpaccio is typically one of his favorites. For entrees, we got the wild boar ragu and the Gamberi Shrimp pasta dish. These are both items that we have enjoyed at the original location. Although we enjoyed them, they were both lacking the salt that we typically experience so they were less flavorful than usual. Was a little confused walking in from the back door from the parking lot. Thankfully was greeted and directed to the hostess after looking around. The restaurant is wide open so it's not a very intimate setting. The lighting was perfect. I was disappointed we didn't get bread complimentary bread, no sides with meals, & had to ask for my bag to go because she forgot about it. Then no toilet paper in the bathroom stall, so I had to look everywhere for a last resort and found a roll with just enough in a little side table in the stall. I did love the eclectic modern decor. Wished they had lemon with the calmari and it was a small portion. Only one tentacle, but it was big. My main entree was a good portion. I couldn't finish it. But I like variety so a side with the meal would have been nice instead of paying extra for a side of pasta. My husband loved his veal. Even though it didn't come out medium rare like he asked, it was still flavorful each bite all the way to the end. At the end, we'll definitely try it out again. read more

I was hesitant on giving this a 4, but this isn't bad of a fine dining restaurant. We went here for a pre-Valentine's day dinner, and I'm glad we went that day, as it was not as packed. Ambiance- Clean, sophisticated, but not intimidating. Bar is super cool looking and it looks like the DC metro lol. Nice bright interior, like I can actually see my food. Service- pretty good. Our waitress was attentive and quick. I always feel so intimidated when they take my food and they pack it themselves lol Food. Okay, so I really appreciate the apps more than the main: App: Pesto goat cheese bread platter. Tons of flavors here! The artichokes made it sweet due to its chemical component. Goat cheese had lots of sharp flavor which complimented the other stuff well, such as the dried tomatoes, and the peppers. We usually do not like olives, but that was palatable with the cheese. Ragu: with duck? I thought that it would have slices of duck, not ripped pieces. Presentation was okay, but it was lacking flavor. Gnocchi with mushrooms: Okay again. We got 7 pieces of mushy gnocchi balls. Meat was tender however. I would try this place again, but for its Rig and Goose, and will be at the bar. read more

Came here to surprise and celebrate a dear friend's 50th birthday. I parked in the parking garage and saw that they had an entrance to the restaurant in the garage...nice, I did not have to walk outside to the front entrance. The back entrance was very cool looking and when you walk in, your immediately greeted with a very pretty Christmas decoration. Once I walked in, I did not have to go to the front as there was a maître d station there as well and they led me to our reserved table. As I am walking to our table I am awe of how beautiful Luce Secondo is! I could not stop taking in the atmosphere and Christmas decorations all around me. There were 11 of us in total and Cole was our server. He was really good and attentive and knew the menu very well, he was also very quiet and sneaky and startled me a few times (in a good way) when picking up or dropping off items. We all ordered a number of things: Appetizers: Salami board, Beef Carpaccio, Charcuterie board, Goat cheese and Pesto. All very delicious. The carpaccio was plated so pretty and so good, I could have eaten that whole plate by myself! Dinner: Mafaldine di Guanciale, Gamberi e Crema al Limone, Seafood Cioppino, Sotto Scallops, Filetto di Luce, Meatball special and Spaghetti & Meatballs for the teenager. Everyone enjoyed their dinner and no complaints. I enjoyed my Mafaldine dish which consisted of "Tender pork jowl/cheek, shallot, fresh thyme, tomatoes, white wine, mafaldine pasta." I am a big fan of pork cheek as it is so tender. Dessert: Mini cannoli's, Bourbon crème brulee, Tiramisu, Limencello cake. Everyone enjoyed their desserts and that Bourbon crème brulee was amazing, I would so get that again. I had their version of Sangria which was very good and we were never left for wanting when we needed refills or another drink. My one tiny downside was I was seated near the front door and every time the door opened I was a bit cold, other than that everything was perfect!! I'm in that area very frequently and never knew it existed, although it's sure to be a hot dining destination in the new "town center" on Volvo next to First Watch. Perfectly classy and lovely in every way. It is chilly due to the exterior wall of glass windows, and COLD in the restrooms. We were fortunate to have a table in the center;otherwise I would have to have worn my coat all night. Beautiful decor all around! Parking: highly recommend the free parking garage. Others didn't realize it was there and parked right outside in the street. There is a restaurant entrance from the garage, which is the back of the restaurant. Although there is a hostess desk there, the main entrance is at the front door facing the street. Garage speed limit could be a little more specific though. (HAHA-see photo;-)) Food: We enjoyed sharing a good variety of apps and entrees. Favorites were the Octopus, Mushroom Toast, and Burrata apps, and Halibut, Salmon, and Boar Ragu entrees. Pasta dishes were good size, but no one left feeling overstuffed. The food was very good, but not write-home-about good for some reason I can't put my finger on. Everything was presented beautifully but seemed to look the same, from the Salmon to the Boar and Sausage pasta entrees. Except the Halibut, which was on its own, a single filet with a very sweet chutney under the fish and picked veg on top. Great low-carb option! Desserts: OMG! The Torta (like a very thick but soft open-face apple pie) with caramel ice cream was to die for! Delicious authentic filling in the Mini Cannolis (2), and perfectly chocolaty cake w/cocoa, hazelnut, and ganache. Sooooo goood!! Notes: There is no bread served to the table, they don't have decaf coffee, and it seems like a packet of Raw Sugar is the only Cafe Americano accompaniment (didn't ask for anything else like Splenda or cream, which would have been a great ending to a lovely meal and experience. But that's just me ;-). Not to worry! I scooped some of the melting caramel ice cream from hubby's dessert plate for "cream". ;-) We will definitely be back for another special occasion! read more

I went here with my son visiting from out of town. We didn't have a reservation but we were quickly shown seating at either the bar or chef's table. Great service which included coat check. Ambiance is intimate, upscale, modern. Food was great as usual. I didn't realize until afterwards that I ordered the same menu item the last time but it goes to show that the food is consistently delicious! One week later and I am STILL day dreaming about this beautiful place! I am a huge fan of the original Luce location on Granby Street in Norfolk so I knew the Chesapeake location wouldn't disappoint. First off, this location is several times bigger than the original and offers a more upscale and formal environment. I could tell as soon as I walked in that everything was carefully thought about and curated to make this place special. Service was impeccable and I had the best time celebrating my birthday. Now for the past you've been waiting for, THE FOOD. *cues drumroll* Our dinner date started off with a glass of white wine and the Calamari and Pepperoncini Salsa. As much as I wanted to try something new for my entree, I stayed with my favorite dish, Gamberi E Crema Al Limoné and my husband ordered the Pollo Con Strati, which was equally phenomenal. Our amazing waiter, Elizabeth recommended the pistachio cheesecake for dessert and I couldn't resist. When I tell you this was the BEST cheesecake I've had. HIGHLY recommend and I hope it stays on the menu! This restaurant was very beautiful, honestly surprising for the area. The prices are a bit high though in my opinion. Having recently been in Italy, I am always on the lookout for "authentic" and actually good Italian food. They make their own pasta, which is definitely a plus. Service was shockingly slow. I had to use my phone to find out what drinks they had as we weren't given a drink menu. I ordered the Cuban in Italy (I think it was called- basically a version of limoncello spritz) and hated it. It was SO sweet and I just couldn't drink it. For an app I ordered the burrata, one of my favorites that I get anytime and anywhere I can. It was good but the balsamic pearls left much to be desired so I asked or some balsamic on the side. I was given a glaze and honestly it was the dish 10x better. My dad ordered the bruschetta which was decent but again would be better if the glaze was added for sure! Most of entrees had pork in them, something I cannot eat, which made choices difficult. I decided to try the Gamberi e creama al limone which was very good. Big sized shrimp and a great sauce with fresh pasta. My dad ordered the mushroom toast as his meal which was very tasty. For dessert we tried the torta di mele, which was full of fresh apples and honestly delicious. read more

Easy parking on a Saturday night; gorgeous restaurant; outdoor sitting is always a plus; live music made the dining experience pleasant; food was delicious; the wait for food and drinks is long, so be prepared. We will return. read more

My husband and I have been wanting to go to Luce for a while now. I finally made a reservation through Resy. It was either high top or private dining. I went with private dining. The decor is very cool, eclectic, and classy. I love their attention to detail: presentation, service, music, I thought everything was perfectly thought out. Steve was our waiter, he was amazing! So knowledgeable, pleasant, not overbearing. We ordered a bottle of wine and the sommelier came to open the bottle, told us about the wine, etc. The food was excellent! We had the calamari and they were delicious! Lightly dusted, not greasy at all, well seasoned and the tomato pepperoncini sauce was very flavorful, robust. I had the rack of lamb entree with truffled mashed potatoes. It was heavenly! The combination of goat cheese, pistachios and balsamic glaze is some kind of genius! My husband had the steak which was excellent but he found it a bit small. Temperatures on both were spot on! Then we had dessert. The apple torta with caramel ice cream. Superb! Wife and I just went for dessert but all the surrounding tables looked like they had great food. Our desserts were amazing. The server was very nice and the manager made sure our late night snack was perfect. The restaurant is very beautiful with a modern attractive vibe. Will go again next time I am in Chesapeake. read more

We made a reservation two weeks in advance since we would be celebrating a very special anniversary. Came right in and will see you immediately. The place was packed service was very good. Our waitress was attentive and checked back frequently. The food, when it arrived, was delicious and tasted very authentic. It's a bit pricey so we will probably only visit for special occasions, but it is definitely being put in our favorites list. read more
