The layout of this location is comfortable and updated. Some of the food on the line looked a little over exposed, like it had been sitting there for a little too long. I went for the chicken fried chicken with cream gravy, zucchini and red potatoes. The food was good except for the chicken and gravy which was very salty and the roll was hard. It's the nicest lubys around, great staff, nice people , I guess as I get older I have been running into older friends at lubys. Yikes ! I'm not a fan of buffet but they serve you so the food is not handled by customers. My favorite food here is the liver and onions, because I hate to cook it and it taste close to my grand mothers recipe. My other favorite food is the big crunchy fish, jello salad and Spanish slaw. Cabbage or turnip greens are good down home sides for liver, and fish I just like the slaw with it. Iced tea is great and if you have a sweet tooth they have sugar free options. read more

One star is a generous review. Expecting the usual Luby standards, we came to this one located near my house. EEEEEGADS!!!!!!!! The food looked and tasted delicious. But then we had to find a clean table in a near empty restaurant. The bar was filthy. The first 3 tables we came to were filthy. My silverware was filthy with dried food on it. The salt shakers were grimy with food and whatever stuck to them. I was in a near state of shock. The waitress in our section started taking names and addresses of all the black people who were sitting near me. It was weird. Were they supposed to verify that she was doing her job or that the white lady at the table near them was losing it over unacceptable filth? Weird. The manager came to my table to "thank me for pointing out" the filth. I asked him if he was a manager why was the place was so dirty, and he pointed out that he couldn't be everywhere at once. Seriously? Oh, you're welcome, sir. Your restaurant is nasty and I'd be terrified to see your kitchen. I am literally traumatized by the experience and I WILL NOT BE BACK. read more

Now open next to Hobby Lobby. 4 stars because of how clean it is and the service was great, but I took away 1 star because the food is all the same like all of the other ones, there's nothing to special about it. Besides all of that it felt like I was in any other restaurant and not a cafeteria type setting. It's Luby's. I'm here on a Wednesday at 5:45pm and I went through the line very quickly. Only 2 small groups ahead of me. The food is normal Luby's comfort food. It was good and consistent. We enjoyed the mac & cheese as well as the red potatoes were good. The mashed potatoes were a little bland but that's why there's salt and pepper on the table. Very friendly service! Nice new facilities too! For a Luby's I think it's one of the best. Bring grandma and grandpa here, they'll love it! But for a date, I'd go to one of the other restaurants around the corner. read more

Family friendly atmosphere, the food is always the same, I would have given them 5 stars but I saw something that I was told not to do when working in the food industry. The server put chicken tetrazzini on a plate and passed it down and the gentleman said he didn't want that so she took and accepted it of the page back into the serving container. So I went to this new location for lunch. Overall the experience was fine. It was neither horrible nor fantastic. I have three complaints. First was the line was slow moving. I think this is why the line tends to be long. The second complaint is the salad section. I really think this is why the line is slow. Everyone has to stop moving so people can have their salad made to order. Why not put in a salad bar and eliminate this slow down? I think most of us are capable of making our own salads. Otherwise, have already prepared salads available. My third complaint deserves it's own paragraph. Why, oh why, are there no signs on the glass labeling each food item? Is that meatloaf or Salisbury steak? Is that chicken fried steak or fried fish? Which of these is the chicken tenders? It would speed things along if people knew what they were looking at instead of guessing or having to ask which is difficult to do with all the noise. The food was fine. It's Luby's so we should all know the kind of food were getting is just one step up from fast food. The place is clean which is a big plus and the people all did a fine job. I would go back at some point but I'm not in a hurry to do so. read more

We waited for someone to come to fill the soda fountain machine because nobody cared to come see what we even wanted. As we were paying the cashier kept saying just get something else, uh nope my husband wasn't having it! So we waited.......She gladly took our money though for the meals. I've eaten at Luby's all my life. I will not be going back to any of the Luby's owned by this franchise. Each time it has been horrible. I can't believe how bad it has gotten! This is a fairly new one. Decor is lovely and for the most part, the people are nice..but that's all that's lovely. The food is cold. It comes off the steam table hot, but by the time you get to your table it is stone cold. (And there wasn't even a line when we went!) My husband had fried chicken, which was underdone, and I had chicken tenders that you couldn't even cut with a knife. The broccoli was yellow in most places, the carrots were little rocks. I just really can't believe how bad it's gotten. Avoid the Houston Luby's as much as you can! read more

Just left Lubys because of how dirty it was. Picked up a tray in line, and there was food all over the bottom of it. Not traces of food but identifiable chunks. Picked up another tray, same thing. Told the manager who said they'd rewash them. What it looks like is they stack the dirty trays, then wash only the top side of the tray, then restack them. So the food that's on the bottom of the tray gets on the front of the next tray. If that's how they wash the trays, how do they wash the plates and cooking utensils? We will not be going back to this location again. read more

I love Luby's, but I won't be returning to this location. Was ordering and suddenly saw a little roach scurry along the bar where you slide your tray and on up to the food. The guy serving me didn't seem surprised and grabbed a piece of wax paper before trying to reach across the food to pick it up. It had scurried to where I could see it, but he couldn't. DIRTY! We've been to this new location twice. The first trip was okay, but when deciding on a salad I noticed the salad bowl that was going to be mine had dried lettuce on it. The salad area was dirty and the dressing bottles had dressing running down the side. Yuck! No salad for me! The second trip was again okay. At checkout, I grabbed a steak knife from the container and it had dried food on it. I grabbed a different one and it too was dirty. I told the the checkout girl and she didn't even respond. I showed her three knives and laid them on the counter and she kinda shook her head. As we paid and walked off, I looked back and she put those knives back in the container. We asked our waitress for clean knives and I asked where the manager was and she said, " probably sitting at her desk." Never again will we eat at this location. read more

The kitchen manager didn't want to sell me a luanne plate. I had ordered a salad just romaine lettuce ,tomato, and carrots. They didn't have broccoli or parmesan cheese or boiled egg for the salad. I wanted unsweet tea but they were out it also. So I ate my salad dry with out a drink, then I asked the waitress for some club crackers they were wet inside the package. So UNSATISFIED, no one deserves this. But I guess this was my second time at this luby's location and my Last time. Food is extremely overpriced. The roasted chicken was greasy with slimy, undercooked skin. The server only checked on us at the beginning (when we didn't need anything), but never came by to refill our drinks. The iced tea came out of weird spigots in the counter - I asked if it was fresh brewed and they said it was, but it tasted like that nasty concentrate stuff. I don't believe for a minute that it was fresh brewed - yuck. read more

Great looking Luby's! Very warm and friendly atmosphere and my young kids were very happy here! Somehow my family managed to go twice last week and we were mostly pleased. Not the healthiest of options that we prefer but its an easy place to please the kids and my husband I were content with our meals (seafood and veggies.) The biggest complaint that I have is that they desperately need to service their dishwasher since all of our flatware had very unattractive spots. Maybe some cascade or vinegar next time? Also I noticed a lot of the tables that were recently bussed were not wiped down immediately. Most of the customers addressed this issue with the servers themselves (myself included since I was out of my own antibacterial wipes) but it should be a standard process to clear and wipe down tables, especially with all the infectious diseases going around the country. While most of the staff was very friendly, some seemed to be really dragging their feet and moving at wooly mammoth speeds. They were all pleasant but some were just way too young to be moving so slow. My daughter fell in love with this older tall woman who had more energy than most staff and since she made my daughter feel special, I know I will be hearing requests to return to Luby's. read more

I had been going to Luby's for years. I can honestly say, over that course of time, I've visited many Luby locations. The Gulf Freeway / Webster location - next to Fuddruckers - has been the WORST location. When the one on the Gulf Freeway in Webster opened, we had no reason to think it too would be nothing short of great food and good service. WERE WE EVER WRONG. All in all, we've had 9 bad experiences with this location....in 2016, 2017 and in 2018....3 each year. Let me first say we won't ever be going back....9 strikes over 3 years and YOU ARE OUT. I was amazed this location was actually that terrible. Yes, I did bring it to the attention of management, but all I got was the same old blah, blah blah, blah blah blah blah, blah blah we'll make sure and get the issues corrected, please give us another opportunity. The issues are so many.....poor quality food - fried chicken seriously undercooked, cold mashed potatoes, half cooked rolls with the dough in the middle still raw, chicken fried steak with much more breading than meat, they even manage to mess up making sweet tea. The restaurant itself was always dirty. I remember the cafeteria in my old high school being cleaner....and that was after 3rd lunch was over. There were times I saw more food on the floor than on the steam tables. I also remember having to go thru 3 or more utensil / napkin wraps before I could find one with ALL the utensils clean. When we would sit down our server would come by, give us their name and tell us if we needed anything to let them know. Rarely would we get a good server who actually helped by giving us good service. When we got those, we'd leave them some kind of a tip. However, lets just say I only recall that happening a time or two....so tips were RARELY given. What they would get would be a dirty table, with partially eaten food to clean up. I was amazed how one location was so TERRIBLE....especially since the experience at other locations when I lived near them wasn't bad at all. I don't know if this is an indication how Luby's as a whole has gone downhill, or if it's only this location. We're reluctant to try the one on NASA 1 or the one on Fuqua. If I'm going to drive across town to go to a cafeteria it will be to go to Cleburns. I could go on, but I hope you get the picture. I've contacted the customer service number on the ticket a few times, but all I got was the same """blah, blah blah, blah blah blah blah, blah blah we'll make sure and get the issues corrected, please give us another opportunity."""" Just how many opportunities do you expect to get.....is 9 over 3 years not enough - especially when the same issues remain 3 years later? In 2016 we had 3 bad experiences over 6 weeks....so we quit going for the remainder of the year. In 2017 we thought "maybe they have got it together by now." A few visits early in the year were "okay", but it didn't take long for them to backslide again. This year....2018....we had a bad experience in March, so we quit going for awhile. Then we went back again in June....same thing. Our last and FINAL experience was in late October. I know complaining to management and or the customer service number will only get a """blah, blah blah, blah blah blah blah, blah blah we'll make sure and get the issues corrected, please give us another opportunity."""" So I thought as my way of saying ADIOS FOR GOOD, Luby's, and I'll post this review on Yelp. Had the chicken fried steak Thursday around 3 PM became very sick when I got home 20 minutes later. Yes, food poison. I called the Manager on Friday to advise the steak was bad and he was not very apologetic about it. Said he had no complaints. Do you think he would have told me if he had complaints??? This place runs wild like a zoo. I love luby's but this particular location was terrible! They appeared to be over staffed with every worker we encountered being very strange. They filled the plate with gravy spilling everywhere off the plate, oblivious to anything. The waiter was the weirdest. He came by our table literally 3 times with different coworkers to show them this small hot wheel my friends son had. One of which workers was the cook from the back. They were standing there for an awkward amount of time while we were just trying to enjoy our food. He would also just stand by our table and text. Then when i went to the bathroom it looked as if it had been wrapped the night before. Toilet paper everywhere. Outside of the bathroom was a worker who was loudly on her phone having a conversation with a boyfriend or perhaps soon to be ex boyfriend. This place was just running wild as if there was absolutely no management that exists at this location. I would have given it 1 star but the food was pleasantly delicious. They were out of many desserts and some other meat choices but what I got was pretty delicious. I love luby's but I will never go to this location again. read more

Well i visited this Lubys location as I have always been a Lubys fan. Where do I start, I ordered the liver and onions which was really good. On the other hand I had cornbread dressing and corn for my sides. The cornbread dressing was pretty salty. My mother ordered the chicken Tetrazzini which she only received about 5 oz of and it's suppose to be an entrée. We ordered a side of fried fish which when it came time to pay my understanding was little because they charged me $7.00 for a single piece of fish and $7.99 for a whole meal and bread... go figure. read more

I am very disappointed in the Lubys Restaurant and Management near me. My husband and I decided to order the chicken fried chicken and split it because it is so big. The chicken was way too salty and completely inedible, so we tried to exchange it for something else. Karen, a server was eager to help and quickly grabbed my husband's plate to make an exchange. She didn't realize we had split the entree, she was just eager and took the plate back to the manager. She returned stating she couldn't make an exchange because my husband had a LouAnn plate. (We had asked for an extra plate to split the entree). We explained the situation to her and she took the meat off of my plate along with my husband's plate again. She returned with Bourbon chicken- which was ok, but the portion was very small to split. We asked to speak to the manager as we were upset that the focus of our complaint became about portion size -- that was what the manager focused on and not on the quality of the food. The manager was very unprofessional and again focused on the portion size completely missing the point that we were trying to make about the quality of the food. When we eat regularly at our local restaurants, we feel it is our duty to inform them if something is off on their food preparation. Some people don't speak up, they just don't return. Having eaten at Lubys restaurants for many many years, we were disappointed in the unprofessional attitude of the manager and will not return to that location. read more
