George’s Bistro & Bar - Fried Chicken Breakfast Burrito-$15. Huge!

The HRW menu doesn't go too off-menu, which is nice for those who want to try a few things and know they can return to get that same dish. This particular HWR was a three course menu with choices for each. You could add on anything like wine, cocktails, etc as well (we had both) The service was good. We didn't have an overly chatty server, in fact I don't even remember interactions with the server, but I remember the food came out quickly, hot, and everything was correct (for a 4-top of varying three course meals) The meals were delicious. We all order a variety of things and were able to share The ambiance is cozy, modern, and still elegant. I will say it was August so it's hot outside in Texas, Georges has a beautiful but gigantic pizza oven in the back center of the visible kitchen. We were all warmer than we wanted to be, and were definitely sweating by the end of the meal. There's a covered patio with seating for the cooler days/nights. There is quite a bit of parking, but it's shared strip mall style parking Some tips: If you want a nightcap after dinner you can mosey (literally walk) next door to Marquis II. It's an almost five far feel with darts, billiards, and a fully stocked bar Don't forget to look at the HRW website in August to find menus categorized by cuisine style to see what fun and delicious meals you might want to enjoy. Remember, it's for a good cause and it's a great way to try local eats Cheers!!

I did the choose your own breakfast where you pick 4 items and make a plate. I ordered egg whites, a pancake, fruit and breakfast potatoes. Everything tasted great! Now I've concluded that nobody truly understands what eggs fried hard means but any rate. I also ordered my signature face an espresso martini it was great. Our waiter was awesome too. Overall a great experience.

Similarly to their more popular location in Memorial (#2), this outside of this Bellaire spot doesn't immediately tell the full story. The interior has an industrial vibe, with the high ceilings and overhead fixtures, but as converted into a solid dining space. The large tilted mirrors in the main area are reminiscent of the now defunct Helen's (#3) and makes for a fun (or perhaps distracting) visual. The spacious layout allows breathing room for all kinds of groups. Service has been good overall, and prompt throughout every visit. The American bistro inspired menu has a decent amount of variety that spans from brunch to a tasty weeknight dinner and a drink. Their starters have a variety of tasty bites that include the white truffle eggs, wicked wings, prosciutto-melon burrata, Mama Pauley's meatballs, and a very addicting chipotle pimento cheese dip. While I appreciate the vegan-friendly hippie chickpea croquettes, it needed just a bit more seasoning. Their bacon double cheeseburger has been deemed "insta-famous" and it certainly didn't disappoint. It's juicy, a little messy, but a lot delicious. It paired well with their large cut fries (consider upgrading to the truffle fries), but the house made chips are also a good light bite. Their salads are equally fabulous from their classic caesar to a hearty cobb salad. I wasn't as impressed with the crunchy Asian salad, but thought their faro salad was a thumbs up. Understandably, the priciest meals are some of their grilled and house specialty meals, such as a prime tenderloin filet ($42), Mediterranean roasted redfish ($36), twelve hour ribs ($29), and rosemary-lemon chicken ($29), all of which are solid. I feel the buttermilk chicken tender platter ($19) is really meant for children, but is great for any tender lover in the bunch. Their weekly "features" are a series of daily specials that range from prime rib nights on Wednesdays and ribeyes on Thursdays, and "kids eat free" specials + their happy hour give folks plenty of reason to check it out. ___________ ( #1) Especially during their seasonal deals which can sometimes include steep discounts. While their expectations were sky high, they apparently were never met as the experiment fizzled in less than a year. On the surface, things looked excellent. The location was central and the venue was gorgeous. It was modern, spacious, clean, and buzzing with folks from all walks of life. The staff was young and ambitious, doing their best to keep things in line with excellent phone manners and were organized all around. The bathrooms were so clean that they ended up being my favorite part of their interior. The menu really embodied their "Pizza. Rotisserie. Bar." theme, which resulted in an extensive menu of food and drinks, with the semi-laughable solo choice of rotisserie, which was a half bird and a handful of sides at $19. Overall, the prices seemed reasonable by neighborhood standards, with the pizzas themselves all less than $20 and pastas were around the same. The kids menu had numerous sub-$10 items and free dough to keep youngins occupied. To be fair, the pizzas were not particularly memorable despite being extremely presentable. The staff would shower a blanket of cheese on the entrees, which made every dish look the part for quality food porn. Despite feeling a bit skimpy portion wise, the pastas fared far better than the pizza. The pappardelle bolognese was their priciest option but was also the weakest link flavor wise. The carbonara ($19) was tastier but was gobbled up faster than the rigatoni vodka ($20), which had the best presentation of the dishes. The cauliflower mash and broccolini were immediate passes (#1) and the wagyu smash burger ($16) was highly recommended but also highly underwhelming. Despite the mediocrity of several items, I still enjoyed what Pie Tap had to offer. While the space is now occupied by Anthony's New York italian (#2), I am hopeful that Pie Tap hasn't given up on the Houston market and will find themselves in another spot in town soon. ___________ (#1) No. Not again. They use high quality ingredients and the entrees are pretty consistent for the most part. I personally opt for the pepperoni and sausage pizza. The pasta bolognese is also quite good and the chicken meatballs are light and flavorful. Marcus or Brandon usually takes care of us. He provides top notch service while maintaining an inviting environment. I would recommend Pie Tab to anyone in the mood for a nice casual spot with top notch food at a fair value. Just note the parking is limited and while valet parking is available I was informed during my most recent visit the valet parking is no longer validated by the restaurant so expect to pay about $10 for parking. (I hope the restaurant owners will re-implement the validated parking in the future).
