Multi-lingual, you'll have no problems here with Russian, English or German. 3. The prices were also fine 4. The complimentary vodka (good quality) half way through our meal. The "meh": 1. All the tables had thick plastic over their table clothes, and were not very clean. I cringed seeing my fork and knife on it 2. The food just is not exciting. The mixed appetizer plate stood out, the meat was soft in some of the choices, but the stroganoff sauce looked like it was taken out of a Campbell's soup can. Not special at all. And the sides of potato and salad looked like a BBQ place 3. I found the pelmeni boring and fairly tasteless; could have gone to Billa and bought a bag of ready made tortellini, just to boil and heat up for the same experience. 4. The beet soup, a Russian classic, was ok, and it was nice they kept the sour cream on the side, but just not very tasty. Overall, still no good Russian restaurant option found in Vienna. Sigh....

The owners used to have a place on the Pilgramgasse near where I live but about a year and a half ago they relocated to the Naschmarkt ... .with tasty results. The Pelmeni here are simply awesome - no matter what filling(s) you choose. With sour cream and some hot sauce, these small dumplings melt in your mouth. And of course they have Pirozhki ... in several varieties. And if you like Uzbekistani food as I do, they have the tastiest Manti in Vienna. I wish they carried even more Uzbek food since Vienna's main Uzbek restaurant closed a year ago unfortunately due to a lack of business. (When I'm in Philadelphia I'm lucky to have several Uzbek restaurants to choose from so all is not lost.) But my favorite dish to take out (or eat right there) from Zarewna's are the Pelmeni. They take about 15 minutes to prepare so it also gives you time to chat with the owners ..... whom I find to be always friendly. Priyatnogo appetita!!

Like Demel, Cafe Central is a MUST visit when you go to Vienna, where the coffee houses are a sight to behold on their own. Yes, the wait is quite long. First off, the interior is STRIKING, a work of art in its own right with marble columns, stylish looking cafe tables, and paintings every where you go. Apparently Sigmund Freud has been a frequent patron here. Even if you were to get nothing at all, just the experience of sitting here is worth your eyes absorbing. But, oh!--the cakes--and the coffees! I had me an iced coffee that had a great body mixed with a delicate flavor to give me a jolt through the day. The hazelnut cake was airy and fluffy, not at all too sweet like American desserts have a tendency to be! The staff here move efficiently, and I love how there's no pressure to hurry up and pay your bill or make your order. A repeat place to be sure if I were to go back to Vienna. As I pointed out to the waiter at the closing of the accounts that I booked via delinski; he replied that this is only possible if I announce this in advance. Delinski is a Plattform where you get discount at a restaurant if you book online. I then talked to the owner who also told me this and asked if he could take the discount into account as we had booked. However, he started to get aggressive and very loud and told me that here his rules apply and that he doesn't give a damn what I think and that in his restaurant his rules apply. He also took an alcohol bottle on me in throwing position and started to use very aggressive body language. In the end he told me what a loser I am and that I can "sneak". Everybody knows Europa! It is such a great place to meet and it always seems crowded from early…read moremorning to late night. It's is the centerpiece of the six cafes inhabiting this small section of the Zollergasse near the Lindengasse, I love to sit in its Schanigarten and watch the world pass by. Meeting a couple of friends recently here was a wonderfut excuse to enjoy an Ottakringer Zwickl and a Philly Steak Sandwich. Well to be honest it was nothing like a real Philly Steak Sandwich but that's what it was called on the menu. Still it was tasty in its own right and my friends who don't know the real thing enjoyed it anyway. Sometimes it's the thought that counts!
