Before trying out this restaurant, I never thought beers are tasty. I thought they look, smell, and taste like cat urine... However, when looked at the menu, my curiosity almost killed me if I wouldn't order the hemp beer. It was so delicious (and I didn't become crazy or get hallucination after drinking it by the way)! Another must-order in Vienna is the Wiener Schnitzel and you can definitely found a good one here as well! Our waiter was super friendly and attentive. We ordered grill tasting platter and frankfurter sausage. All very delicious and the prices are surprisingly reasonable. The only pity I found was, there was no veal schnitzel on the menu, only chicken or pork ones. When I walked out of this place, I found another lovely thing at the door - there is a beer vending machine selling hemp beer, chilly beer, and other types of signature beers of this place, yay! read more

Popular brewpub. I had a half liter of their legendary bock. A perfect unfiltered sessionable beer. Lots of flavor but still at an easy drinking alcohol percentage. Service was quick. It had that typical Central European decor that I was expecting based on my experiences elsewhere. read more

Nice brewery in the middle of Vienna with mainly traditional German styles but also some more recent ones (e.g. IPAs). I only stopped for a beer and I had a Weihnachtsbock which sounded good right after visiting a Christmas market close by. The service was quick and the beer was good. I always have a good time at Siebensternbräu. It has a convenient location in the heart of Neubau. It's large enough to accommodate parties of different sizes. In the summer it is pleasant to sit outside in the Gastgarten...in winter it is warm in the regular dining rooms. The food is good enough with many traditional Austrian dishes on the menu. The beer is more than good enough ... and is brewed right on the premises. Service has always been fine. Like I said, Siebensternbräu is always a good time! read more

This place is a bit of a warren and has a similarly extensive menu with some surprising beer choices - chilli beer anyone? I had a smoked porter that was basically the drink version of smoked cheese - I liked it but probably wouldn't have more than one! I had a beef and pancake strips soup to start - apparently v common in Vienna, it was nice although I guess I prefer the crunchier texture of croutons. For mains I tried the gnocchi with spinach and cheese, a massive dish I could only half finish. It's very rich and apparently common after skiing, so a good choice if you are hungry! A better choice if you are keen for spinach though was the strudel which my friend had - really delicious I would definitely get that again. Also if keen for the gnocchi I would probably go for the bacon version as the quite plain taste of the gnocchi probably needs more of a contrast than spinach can provide. All in all a good experience though! Swift service and nice atmosphere. read more

Although I find that the crowd is quite international here, the food is authentically Austrian (as are the waiters and waitresses ;)) and it is a great place to hang out in a big group. They brew their own beer and my two beer fanatic friends loved it so it must be good stuff! I like the location and the surrounding area a lot. The pub is underground which is cool and the decor just screams Austrian pub to me so I love it. Only 4 stars as the staff could be a bit more polite...But maybe it's all part of the authentic approach ;) read more

Great food, great beer, and a large enough place that always has space for you make this one of my favorite brewpubs in Vienna. If the service were more friendly or helpful, they'd definitely get 5 stars. Great ribs, goulash, käsespätzle, and more provide excellent examples of these classic Austrian dishes. Their beer is all made on the premises and is always fresh, balanced, and tasty. Besides their standard beer menu (helles, märzen, hemp, dunkel, chili, and smoky raunch beer) they also have seasonal selections. Right now it's a summer bock and an IPA. If the weather is nice, they have a covered back patio which is lovely. read more

Home-brewer husband, of course, had to find this microbrewery. Dubbed as "the best beer in Austria" in Frommer's, we were pumped and ready to try different flavors. Our server was helpful in making suggestions and was prompt. I had the Stern Hanf - Hemp because, frankly, I would never be able to find this in the States. This was a light beer with bite, easy to sip. I loved my second drink - the SternBamberger Rauchbier. OH man, this was BBQ in a glass. With its smoky yet sweet strong flavor, I again reveled in the fact I have yet to find a beer like this in the U.S. For our third, we actually ended up taking it to go from the vending machine because it closed earlier than expected (last call at 11 p.m., with closing time at midnight). So grateful that all the usual brews were offered in half-liter bottles via the machine. The Chili beer was HOT - I've only felt this way eating Szechuan food in an authentic Chinatown dive. Holy capsaicin! I wished we had eaten something bready or meaty to go with this one. (Food is served at this pub, but we had only planned for drinks here.) read more

After being turned away at two other spots that were booked solid, we stopped into a British pub and asked for a recommendation for where to get something to eat nearby. The waitress recommended this place and mentioned it was a brewery too. I ordered the spinach and feta strudel, what I'd call Austrian spanakopita. It came with actual potatoes, not dumplings, and it was a welcome break. I'd been remarking about how I wanted some actual potatoes. This dish was simple but really good. My BF got the chicken schnitzel and it came with fried potatoes. It was also simple, but good. He got a side of cucumber salad with yogurt and dill and this was really delicious. This is a totally solid eating establishment. It's my "go-to" place in the neighborhood, and I bring pretty much every visitor to Vienna here. It's tourist-friendly without being touristy. (The menu is available in English, and also Russian, and all of the waiters speak at least some English.) It's also a microbrewery, thus providing some of the only drinkable Austrian beer (you'd think being near Bavaria, Austria would have good beer, but, alas, no! However, Siebenstern has 6 or so good beers to offer, and almost always a seasonal one as well.) The food is consistently great, and the quantity and quality to price ratio is pretty much unbeatable. My standard fare is the "child's size" or small goulash, which comes with a slice of bread (I usually request wheat/"dark" bread, the default is white), and it's a beefy dish. (Note: before moving to Vienna, I didn't eat red meat. Yeah...) This "small" portion of goulash, which costs about €5, is totally enough food for me; in fact, I always think I'll take some home for leftovers, but somehow that never happens and I just finish it off.. My fiancé's oft-eaten dish is the Käsespätzle, which comes in a HUGE, hot saucepan and can feed both of us for about two days. It's a mixture of cheese, bacon, and (of course), the Spätzle (a kind of pasta/egg noodle). We frequently order a side of sauerkraut as well, which is served warm and with bits of bacon (slightly different from some other Austrian establishments). The recommendations for this place go on and on, but one final note: the dessert! *Topfennougetknödel* - I'm not sure how it's listed on the English menu - but they are nougat and chocolate-filled Knödel (kind of like dumplings), made with Topfen (kind of like cream cheese), and covered with a raspberry sauce and lightly sprinkled with powdered sugar. This dessert is absolutely amazing!!! (It has also been described as "the best dessert in Austria" by a friend of ours, from Austria, with possibly the biggest sweet tooth of anyone I've ever met.) So try it, especially if you're a dessert-eating individual. It comes with 3 little Knödels, which can easily be split between 2 or 3 people. read more

Great local bräu! The beer is great and service a little less so. It's a very large place but no matter how busy it is, the staff looks overwhelmed. So tracking your waiter down is sometimes a challenge. The food has its ups and downs. Ribs are amazing when they're good. The pan dishes are really nice as well. Located at the rear of Marihillferstrasse, this tradditional Viennese restuarant is combined with a brewery. A great bier is the Chilli 7stern and it really knocks your socks off! with warm glow down the throat and into the stomach. I had the Lieberdumpling suppen followed by Goulash and Pommes. Both meals were very tasty and not salty or over powering tomato taste seen in Goulash. Deffinatly wholesame food and worth a repeat visit, maybe for the ribs or Hax. read more

I like the atmosphere and drinks, though I found the service and food a bit iffy. I came here with a group of six for dinner and it took them FORTY-FIVE minutes to get us a table, and this is when we were standing next to a large table whose reservation was for an hour and a half before when we had gotten there? As group after group got seated before us, I got the impression they were ignoring us because we were speaking English (despite us communicating with them in good German). We eventually had to split off into two groups in order to get a table at all. I like the beer and their specialty brews like a chili beer or hemp beer. Decent food, nothing too special. They offered a wide range of beers of equally high quality. Also, they had English speaking staff, which isn't commonplace in Vienna. A recommendable place. read more

7 Stern was a place I had heard about from a hostel I was staying at in Vienna! The beers were definitely unique...they even had a spicy beer! I usually enjoy or at least appreciate every beer I try, but I honestly didn't care for any of 7 Stern's beers! They were all very dense and heavy. The atmosphere of the place was neat, but the waiters and bartenders didn't seem to care about us, or really anything at all. This is a world-class establishment. Everything about this place is exceptional - food, service, atmosphere, and value. Great for people of all ages. The front bar area/room was completely full with about 150 people. Patio in the back was quaint, nearly half full with about 50 people. There was also a back room behind the patio that was quite full with about 30 people. A bit outside of the city centre, you can tell that this place attracts a lot of tourists, and for good reason. We each had different types of their brewed in house beers, I had the marsen and the husband had the lager. Both beers were fine, but far from the best beers we had in Wien. For food we split the beer bread and the goulash with dumplings. The beer bread was a huge disappointment, basically plain pieces of sliced bread topped with a tomato -y spread... it was supposed to be spicy, but it really wasn't. The goulash was much better. The portion size was huge and the food was extremely filling. The goulash itself was flavorful, the meat inside was fork tender, and the dumplings were thick and dense. I would recommend that dish. This wasn't the most amazing bar we visited, but if you are nearby, it's worth a look. read more

This might be your best brew pub option in VIenna. They had several varieties of beer and were very friendly to those wanting to practice german. I was disappointed they did not have the Flanders Red they promised on the website but that said the Marzen and IPA were very good nice changes to the beers we were getting. This place is GREAT! My friends and I were looking for traditional Austrian food and good beer and were are so glad we found 7Stern Bräu. They brew they're own beer on premise - I was a bit too intimidated to try the hemp beer but my friend tried it and loved it so much that she bought another to go from the beer vending machine by the entrance. The food comes out in very large portions and is great comfort food at a reasonable price. Will definitely be coming back here when I come back to Vienna. read more
