A short walk from our Airbnb, we hung out at 1516 Brewing Company 3 different times. Regardless of where we sat, the servers were super friendly and efficient. There's seating at the bar, tables and booths inside; additional covered seating outside with plenty of heaters. Blankets would have been a nice touch We ate pumpkin curry soup and homemade pumpkin ravioli for one meal. It was amazingly delicious! The next meal was traditional Wienerschnitzel with German potato salad; another tasty meal. They do a great job with their beer which is brewed in house. They also have guests beers. read more

We stumbled across this place while walking around the city, and decided to sit and have a drink. I ordered a coke, and was brought something called a MoleCola, Italy's version of coke. It was pretty decent. Hubs had a couple of beers. We ordered the Spicy Chipotle Popcorn Chicken with Chili Dip. It was the equivalent of pub food back home....nothing gourmet, but decent and filling. This pub could very well be a tourist place, but it didn't seem that way to us. It was practically full when we decided to visit, and all the outdoor tables were taken. My friend and I stopped in at 1516 Brewing Company when we exploring Vienna for a few days earlier this month. Our trip had a bit of a wine focus, but we wanted to try a few beers while we were in Austria as well. 1516 is in a great location, close to several attractions. We wandered over after leaving a museum, before we walked to the restaurant where we had our dinner reservation. They had a great selection of beers (all brewed on the premises), something for everyone. I had a black and tan, and my friend had Weisse. Both were great. We didn't eat (since we were on our way to dinner) but really enjoyed our time at the bar and our beers. A great place to sit and relax during a day of touristing around. read more

My husband and I were so excited to try a local brewery while visiting Vienna and 1516 certainly did not disappoint! We arrived early in the day (around 11:00am) so it was very quiet which was fine by us. We sat inside next to an open door so we could enjoy the pleasant Viennese air and the fun historic interior at the same time. Service was super friendly and the beer was great! We tasted almost every beer on the menu, but particularly enjoyed the Lager, Slipper Pale Ale, and the Kimber Ale. This will be a must stop for us for future travels to Wien! read more

If you're coming for an evening of relaxing drinks and a nice chat, you're in the wrong place. It requires yelling or at the very least noise cancelling headphones. We stumbled across this place a block off the downtown pedestrian mall between the Opera House and St. Stephen's. It has some indoor tables, but literally everyone was sitting outside in the patio they have created with a shrubbery wall. Extensive menu includes local dishes plus ribs and burgers. Nearly 10 beers on draft, including an IPA, lager, Belgian, Weiss, and pale ale, all of which were tasty. We ordered potato wedges and a pretzel, and the potatoes came out with 3 forks, because it should take 3 people to finish them! Service was very attentive and everything came out quickly. They brew their own beer here and overall it was very good. For food I had the goulash and it was very average. After drinking several sips of my beer, I noticed that my glass was cracked. I mentioned this to the waitress and told her that I would like the cost of the beer taken off my tab. She said, "There is nothing I can do except to pour the remainder in an uncracked glass." I then took up my dissatisfaction with the manager, Jack. Jack blamed me for toasting too aggressively. Unfortunately for Jack, not only did he take great liberty with the truth (I had not toasted aggressively.) but his lack of concern for the patrons of the establishment was quite alarming. That the potential for a shard of glass to be in my beer was of no concern to Jack. I was quite upset and Jack (wish I had got his last name) was completely unconcerned. Nice pub atmosphere with craft brews. Came here on a spontaneous decision. We had the Dubbel Winter Ale, Slipper Pale Ale, Kimber Ale, and 1516 Shandy. You honestly cannot go wrong with any of these options plus they're all brewed on site. The first three make for good winter beers and are on their seasonal brew list. We also ordered the Surschnitzel--very tender and tasty! And, you can order the entire menu from the bar (huge plus). The service was great! Our bartender had the perfect amount of attentiveness and fulfilled all our desires. Definitely would return to this location! read more

-Pre Pandemic- During our visit to Vienna, we decided we needed some schnitzel before ending headed back to Prague. We were excited to see that there was a brewing company near our location so we walked over the 1516 Brewing Company where we were quickly seated. We ordered pork schnitzel, a side of potato salad and some goulash with some cold beers. The goulash was pretty good, the pork schnitzel was a bit on the dry side but decent. As for the potato salad.. that was soooo good! I would love to have that recipe and enjoy it on a hot summer day. As mentioned in other reviews, this place is definitely catered towards Americans. We had such a great experience here!! First of all, the restaurant was super busy when we got there. We wanted to sit outside but the tables were taken, so we got seating inside instead. 5 minutes later, the host came and found us to let us know a spot had opened up outside. Since we are on vacation and wanted to try local food, we ordered a pretzel, the alpine cheese spaetzel, and the cheese sausage... and many beers. The lager and weiss are both so refreshing to drink on a hot day. Everything was delicious. We ended up chatting with the couple next to us for over 4 hours and had a blast!! The whole time, we were ordering new beers and our bill came out to only $50 US which is phenomenal for how much we ate and drank. This made our trip to Vienna very memorable! read more

Is it for tourist? absolutely. But sometimes, after 4 countries you just need someone who WANTS to see an American. That's a gift. I can't tell you how many places, even if we were very kind hated us before we even walked all the way in the door. Really sucks. Especially since, just this week, I was in NYC and helped out some German tourists; why? because they are trying to enjoy my country! Why can't Europe just see us as people wanting to travel? We weren't obnoxious or any of the bad clichés. Plus, I did NOT vote for that toddler who is currently holding the office of president hostage. soap box over. Beyond it being a bit touristy (like, they had signs in the bathroom advertising to wait staff that said, "do you want to practice your English? Apply today!") the beer was dreamy and the food was perfectly good. No, it wasn't going to be the place I wrote home about on a postcard that cost 2 euros and stamps that cost 8 euros. But, we needed a good meal and a strong drink. We got both. Plus the service was really spot on. We had a couple people waiting on us and both were charming, helpful, kind, and had good suggestions. Pretty solid food and beer. I had this place bookmarked for my Vienna trip. When I found out that it was right next to the one of my tourist stops (Haus der Musik), I knew I had to come here. For a Tuesday night at 9, it was pretty packed. Luckily, the restaurant is huge and the hostess led us upstairs where we didn't have to wait. I had the chicken schnitzel (great), which came with a side of potato salad. It was a nice change from the french fries that you'd expect back in the states. My friend had some curry sausage, which wasn't bad, but I definitely liked my dish better. The beer is also good, which it better be if they're going to call themselves a brewing company. We came here on Christmas night and we were glad we made reservations. The place was not overly crowded but definitely turned over quickly and was always busy. The place is tight on the bottom floor with a bar and small tables for crowds while the upstairs is fairly large with lots of tables but very cramped between them. Even the servers have a tough time reaching each table or seat. The vibe is lively and there is a somewhat thrown-together sports memorabilia theme throughout. The beer selection is not as vast as I hoped but we were able to try a few different types and styles, including a seasonal Holiday beer, which was spiced with warm, winter flavors and was dark and rich. We ordered a sausage ring that was flavorful, grilled perfectly, snapped when bitten, and had crispy potato wedges on the side. The Chicken Schnitzel special I ordered, thinking I would take a break from veal or pork for a night, turned out to be spiced with a curry-based covering - I was somewhat disappointed because it mentioned nothing or the flavor profile on the menu - and turned out to be in the middle of the pack for Schnitzel on our Austrian/Bavaria trip. The fries on the side were perfectly shaped and cooked for me with thin, crispy, bright yellow yumminess. My wife enjoyed her pork Schnitzel, which was served with a very tasty potato salad. It was crispy and more traditional compared to my version. We enjoyed our meal and the mix of beers (they even had a NEIPA) and would definitely return here for a meal. read more

I chose my first stop in Vienna at random. I knew I needed food and wanted to centralize myself as much as possible after arriving by bus. Yelp helped me pick 1516 Brewing Company. One thing I noticed right off the bat was that 95% of the patrons were speaking English. I didn't expect that, but I later learned that it was actually right near the center of town, so perhaps that was why. I dunno, tourist trap or not, I thought it was incredibly great. My servers were super friendly and quick. I ordered five samplers and they offered advice on which ones to choose. They even asked how I liked them! I ordered all house brews, but they also offer Victory HopDevil on draft, which is SO random but, then again, Victory appears to own real estate in Europe soooo k. For food (since i wanted food the most), I ordered the Louisiana fried chicken sandwich with fries. It was the sandwich of my dreams. Perfectly cooked and breaded with bacon and cheese. The fries were incredible. A side of honey mustard for dipping didn't hurt. All in all, I loved my visit to 1516, and it set the stage for a super day and a half in Vienna! We came for a late lunch around 1230 in a Saturday and was seated right away. The service was welcoming & prompt. The food was great. A hiccup short of a perfect experience, but hiccup was little enough that it didn't cost this place that oh-so coveted fifth star. I ordered the 1516 burger and a beer, the name of which I only remember as being "slipper". My server recommended it to me, saying it would go well with the burger. The beer was delightful, full of flavor, a bit bitter but not so much so that the bitterness overwhelmed the whole thing. I don't know if this was one of those unfiltered beers, but it certainly had no flavor filtered out. However, despite this is was not as heavy as I find stout to be. Beer came out quick, but the burger had a bit of a wait, I might even say abnormally so. When the server noticed I was still just sitting there with a barely touched beer, she asked if I had gotten the burger yet. When I told here I didn't, she immediately went to see what was going on. My burger was brought to me less than a minute after. It was very warm, but I feel that if the hiccup hadn't happened, it would be hot... or maybe they are not supposed to come out piping hot... regardless the burger was still amazing. First, I liked that the lettuce they used actually had some crunch. I find too many places like to use that lettuce which is very soft, and adds barely a crunch or a lettuce-y flavor. Meat was flavorful, and juicy enough to make it moist, but not so juicy that the bottom bun becomes a sponge in a swimming pool of a plate. All of this, and some other ingredients including tomatoes, cheese, and some class of sauce came together wonderfully. I usually like my burgers with a lot of sauce, but this was flavorful enough that there was no sauce needed! And, despite the lack of bacon, I surprisingly found myself not missing it too much. Fries were good, but nothing to write home about. They were salted extremely delicately, but there are shakers on the tables. Service was great. When I ran out of water, a server who wasn't even the one assigned to my table offered a new glasses! Location is a little dark (not brightly lit) but very very clean, it's a bar after all! Even though you must pass through the smoking section to get to the non-smoking section, because you passed by on the side, smoke shouldn't be too much of an issue on this short trek. Definitely worth a visit for beer and burger lovers alike. read more

I can't believe I have never reviewed 1516 Brewpub before. It's not that I go there often - I don't - but over the years I have certainly drank beer with friends in that establishment on a few occasions. 1516 is located right in the historic old center of Vienna and as such has become a very popular spot with tourists and ex-pats. It also is a sports bar with a few big TVs for sporting events. The main reason a local will go there is to watch the sports on TV or drink the beer. You see they make the beer on-site .... and it is good! The recent time I was in 1516, I went with a friend to watch Austrian tennis ace - Dominic Thiem - play in the ATP finals in London. The house-made Vienna red beer made was most fine. Unfortunately Dominic Thiem lost in the ATP finals ... only by a tiebreaker. Most of us in the pub were saddened by this. Good food, good beer, not so great service. Had a couple beers and some snacks busy Tuesday night. Downstairs and upstairs packed, but got a table upstairs. Service staff were pretty attentive, but when we ordered the "chicken wings" they brought out the "suicide habanero wings." Could have been a mistake by my friend who may have pointed to the habanero wings but ordered just "chicken wings". Mistake by us? Maybe. But I don't remember her pointing to anything when she ordered. But when we asked to have them taken back and regular wings sent out from one server, the other server who we ordered from came out with a menu and pointed at it saying that "you pointed to THESE wings!" Kind of petty and unnecessary, they could have just sent back the "suicide" wings and brought out the other regular wings (which were more expensive and we'd have happily paid for them had they taken the other "suicide" wings off). I think if you have two chicken wings on a menu, one regular BBQ/buffalo, and one with a three chili rating next to it called "suicide wings" that you may want to clarify with a customer first what they mean. I'd recommend going here because the bar is packed and the food/drinks are good, but it was a pretty disappointing experience that could have been easily avoided. read more

Sorry to say that I was slightly underwhelmed by this bar. Went into it imagining a mecca to beer but what I found was 2 or 3 beers on tap and 1 bottled (alcohol-free) beer. ??????? Have I missed something, did I get the wrong menu, am I in the right place? Was told good things about this place and the reviews on yelp were positive but for me there was nothing too special about this place. Sure it has a cool pub atmosphere and decor, sure the wedges are pretty good, sure the waitress was very friendly and efficient, but so are a lot of places in Vienna. It lacks a charm or selling point that a lot of other bars in the area have, so for me it was a pleasant experience but there is no real reason to return.
