My favorite dining inside a greenhouse! We've been several times on two occasions. Also easy to get in without reservations so it's very helpful when you are hungry. Pluses 1. Drinks are amazing - found a new liquor Ramazzotti Rossato that I love and combined with Indian fever tree tonic was just aromatic and refreshing 2. I was going back and forth on whether or not to come to palmenhaus. I've heard from many that it's just a tourist trap and that better cafes are around to choose from but I decided to go anyways and I'm honestly glad that i did. The coffee and pastry were both pretty good, not extraordinary, but I enjoyed them. What you are really coming here for though is the aesthetic and ambience and boy that didn't disappoint. Probably one of the coolest places I've ever had the pleasure of eating at! Palmenhaus is definitely one of a kind type of experience. It has a greenhouse like structure and is located around a bunch of stone/ brick buildings, so it sticks out and is easy to find. You cannot get dropped off right in front. Our Uber dropped us off at the entrance to this center spot and we had to walk a few meters- nothing far. We walked in and the first thing you notice is how high the ceilings are. There is so much natural light (which I love) and amazing, lush greenery. We didn't have a reservation but we're told it was no problem. We waited a couple minutes for our servers to set up our table for 6, and were seated promptly. They have a nice variety on the menu. We ordered drinks first, which I got the aperol spritz. It was perfect, the nice 1/2 and 1/2 ratio is always appreciated. We then ordered some appetizers, since we were going to meet some friends at a spot for dinner a bit later. We got the cheese plate, as well as the chilled soup. I forgot the name of the soup, but it was interesting and pretty good. I love basil, and it had basil undertones. I had never had chilled soup before, but it was so hot and I love trying new things- so it was time to try. The cheese plate was good! Always love a good cheese plate- had different varieties of options for different preferences. Before the meal, they served a little dish of whipped ricotta and bread for everyone which was amazing! At the burggarten. Plenty of seating outside. We sat inside since it was raining earlier during the day. Seated really quickly as I had reservations. They were super accommodating! Drinks were definitely actual drinks like the Americas. Note: Austrian double equals a single in America. So if you want a double then order a double double (quadruple) Food was pretty good! They have a special of the day menu and a huge wine list. I had the main menu trout which is the whole fish. Paloma that tastes like as written. Ordered the following: Carpaccio- No, literally too salty and the flavor balance wasn't there. Not sure what they're trying to do with the shaved sea salt on top. Ceviche- yes, it was good. A bit on the tart side than other ceviches but still decent. Goat cheese special- Yes! Grilled cheese between bread? Yes please. Over a bed of salad. Came with a basket of bread and a spread that is ricotta cheese with truffle and chives, yum! Tiger prawn special - No, wasn't impressed. The outdoor seating is just so lovely, it is covered to let you enjoy the spring air without being too exposed to the elements. It can have a fair amount of wait time depending on what day you go. We had goulash and a couple drinks off their drink menu, the spring g spritz being my favorite. The goulash had this large bread ball that soaked up all the sauce and was just decadent. You get a view of the gardens/park as well as the back side of Hofburg palace. One of my favorite stops while we were in Vienna. read more

Definitely a tourist trap. The inside was unique which is why we chose this restaurant but that was the only semi-enjoyable part of this experience. Just know that it is quite warm inside. The price of the food definitely did not match the quality. The service was the worst part. Our waitress was quite rude and dismissive. She pressured for a tip while standing with the machine and my card. She acted like there was a malfunction with the machine and had my card for a good 2-3 minutes. I immediately had a charge on my card and thought everything was fine. One day later I received notification of a second charge, at a different (and higher) price. I was fortunately able to dispute this, but now know what the waitress was doing. Beware and avoid this tourist trap! read more

A friend recommended this place and it looked nice, so I stopped for dinner. Watch out for the €4.50 "cover" after 6:00pm, I've never seen that anywhere else. Regardless of this, I ordered and got served fairly quickly. The waitress did bring out some bread and hummus that makes up for the "cover" somewhat, I suppose. The food came next and it was pretty good. I was satisfied and still had a few bites left. The drink was not bad, I opted for an elderflower spritz. At the end though, was where I had a problem. I went to pay the tab and I was told I ordered a €34 daily special. I ordered the Minced Lamb Patties though for €24, and once I showed this picture to the waitress, she said "okay okay you're right" as if she'd been caught. She was unable to change the credit card total, but gave me some cash to resolve the issue. I'd recommend the place but make sure you take a picture of your food not just for your Instagram, but for any bill disputes later on... read more

Dining in this restaurant is like dining in a breathtakingly beautiful greenhouse that is air-conditioned. This pair of tourists happened upon Palmenhaus after a long day of checking out the museums, in dire need of water and nourishment. I ordered a small albeit beautiful grilled shrimp salad, which was delicious and just what I needed. My only gripe about this place is that it's pretty pricey for the portion size, but that's probably to be expected given the restaurant's prime location in an expensive city like Vienna. My husband also ordered a light bite, and our bill came out to €35 for what was supposed to be a snack. This place is a WHOLE vibe! I was living for the plants and greenery that hug every inch of this place, you can definitely get some cute Instagram photos here if you don't mind all the people. Yes, there are a lot of people that come here to eat but don't be discouraged, it took me less 15 minutes to be seated (although I did dine alone lol). But a group behind me sat within a short time after their arrival, the staff do their best to seat people as quickly as possible. Additionally, this "cafe" is conveniently located next to the Butterfly center, Mozart's statue, and other touristy sites. Speaking of the staff, they are all so friendly! I was not able to get the name of my server, but he was sooo attentive. When I was ready to order he approached me as if he knew and when I asked about items on the menu he gave good recommendations. I even saw him change the bottle of wine another table ordered because he talked to his coworker who suggested a similar wine. This guy was here to give world class service. I ordered the polenta truffle gnocchi and homemade mint infused lemonade. Can I just say...GET THE LEMONADE! It was delicious, and. You get a bottle to yourself. The gnocchi was alright, I don't think I would order it again. But I realized this place was known for their brunch items after I ordered my food, shoulda looked it up on Yelp before! If I get the opportunity to come to Vienna again, I will stop by here and get some brunch. read more

A must-do for us when we visit Vienna. I would suggest you come here for any meal you can - but especially for breakfast, lunch or brunch. Fantastically yellow/orange eggs, crispy bacon, fresh squeezed orange juice, lovely pastries, bread and such - its a nice place to come. The Yelp reviews described this place as eating in a jungle in the heart of Vienna...well that is what the rough translation of the German Yelp reviews said. Needless to say, I was curious, and sure enough both Yelp and the translate tool were spot on! The Palmenhaus (Palm House) restaurant is in the middle of a massive green house and you do indeed dine both under the stars and the jungle-esque palm trees. Be forewarned, it's a bit random (and not well lit) when you arrive at the park---you will second guess if you're at the right spot. Assuming you make it through the quick 2 minute walk through the dark park to the conservatory....you're in for a treat. While the food is more 3/3.5 stars, it was still a solid meal all around, I ordered the fillet steak which was served with bacon wrapped french beans---super tasty (see pic). My friend's vegetarian goat cheese dish disappointed however. Service was slooooooooow, but I suppose that gives you more time to take in the "jungle" scenery. read more

The wine list is extensive and the choices of cocktails and other drinks is also good. I had the whole fish main and it was cooked to perfection and came with a nice medley of vegetables and potatoes. The Erdbeertorte I had for dessert was excellent and the Austrian wines we had for the evening were great. Happily come here anytime for a meal and to soak in the grand ambience. Another beautiful restaurant in which to eat, yet another place the food is not so great. It's the top recommended restaurant in the New York Times, so I almost made a reservation, but then I saw that it was open everyday all the time, I decided we'll eat there if it's convenient. And then I forgot all about it. As we walked around Vienna, and came to Burggarten Park by the National library, my boyfriend saw the beautiful greenhouse and asked if we could eat there the next day. After curiously walking around it, I realized it was the one that NYT recommended and I nodded profusely. We were not disappointed by this beautiful greenhouse with a Palm Museum on one side and Butterfly house on the other. I was so awed by how pleasing my surroundings were that I didn't even care the food wasn't even that good. We sat at the bar at first, waiting for a seat, and my bf ordered a vermouth on the rocks and I a fresh squeezed orange juice (5.50EUR!). The bartender kindly told us they do not serve cocktails at noon. After we were seated and went through the menu, we decided on a menu of the day dish that was a steak with potatoes on top (they have changing menus). I opted out of a main dish because I wanted to save room for dessert, given that we past their lavish dessert table full of yummy pastries and cheesecake. The steak came, and it was not very good (~22EUR). Not flavourful at all and I took a couple of bites before giving my half to my bf. I eagerly waited for him to finish before ordering my Apricot Cheesecake (~8 EUR) and cappucino. After taking one bite into the driest cheesecake I've ever put into my mouth, I said out loud, while laughing extremely hard, "this is the worst cheesecake I've ever had." My boyfriend took a vanilla ice cream, which i think was fine. The capuccino wasn't so bad. Anyway, like many of the restaurants I've reviewed in Vienna so far - the place is worth coming at least for a drink, but keep your expectations down for a great meal and make sure you bring enough $$$. read more

When visiting Vienna, what you notice as a tourist, is the breathtaking architecture and the culture. While strolling in the city center and admiring the buildings on the Ring, you can practically see Sisi and Franz Josepf and the way how they used to live. And just in the middle if this, you can stop by at Palmenhaus, next to Burggarten and enjoy a little bit of that flair too. Palmenhaus is a former green-house rebuilt to its current Jugendstil look over hundred years ago. It doesn't matter in which season you go there, it is always worth to pay a visit. Inside, there are huge palm trees and plats which make a very natural atmosphere. The service is kind and the food delicious. There is always a wide range of fresh cakes, whichever you chose, you cannot do any wrong with it. My favourite time to visit is autumn - you can sit outside on one of the oldfashioned metal chairs, get a nice dose of sun, drink Sturm wine (white or red or both :) and just pretend to be a Viennese and enjoy the life. read more

They serve good Latte (€ 3,80) - smaller size than usual but not as milky, you still taste coffee and not only overheated milk. Waiters are friendly and there's a nice mix of locals and tourists. I can also recommend their breakfast choices. The "grosses Wiener Fruehstueck" comes with an egg, sliced cheese and ham (Beinschinken) and really fills you nicely. Since years the Palmenhaus at Burggarten is one of my favorite Cafes in Vienna! In Wintertime you have a great place to sit inside. With skyhigh roof and a lot of windows - so during the day the wintersun can shine in and at night its like sitting in a giant wintergarden - serving from coffee over great cocktails and wine to good food almost everything! And specially when spring is finally coming you really have a hard time to get a seat on the terrasse where the sun is shining until sunset. (really! sometimes when you watch the people they are like cormorants, when they are wating for a free spot) the prices are not toooo cheap, but the service is good and the ambience is just marvelouse so you can pay a little bit more for some quality time. read more

It was ok, the food was ok, but it felt very touristy, and really more expensive for what we got, which is saying something for this already expensive city. I don't know how they managed to make dining among all the foliage feel like dining in a hospital cafeteria, but that's how I felt in there. It's located inside a pretty park, so it's worth a look, maybe just for an afternoon drink, because the conservatory itself is very light, airy and charming. To be fair to this place in case you're a tourist really wanting to visit and you're on the fence, the feedback from Hubby is that he enjoyed the overall experience, really liked the setting, the food was ok, he expected that cafeteria feel as part of the European experience, and he would give it 4 stars. read more
