I saw good reviews about this place so decided to come for dinner. We came in at about 6:30pm with a dog and they were full outside but the inside is pretty nice as well it's not hot and with all the windows open and fans blasting it gives a nice breeze. We ordered bread, octopus, and beef tartar starters and the wild boar schnitzel and chanterelle risotto. Even though they are pretty full, the service seems very fast and efficient they even brought water for the dog. The octopus was surprisingly good and had just enough spice, it was one of the first times I've tried something like a full leg of octopus. The tartar had much to be desired. It was an average tartar, but it just didn't have any spice the only flavor was from the pickled onion and capers. The chanterelle risotto has an exceptionally good taste and chanterelles are such a good choice for this dish. Sadly chanterelles are a seasonal mushroom so by the time you read this review it probably won't be on the menu. The wild boar schnitzel that everyone is raving about in the reviews is not that impressive, the meat is good but the coating of chopped pumpkin seeds doesn't help the dry texture and lack of sauce. Besides the sweet lingonberry sauce, it leaves me with a strong desire for savory sauce or gravy. I even used risotto and mayo to try to finish it. For dessert we ordered crème brûlée and chocolate soufflé and both were very nice. All in all I recommend this place, but not the wild boar schnitzel. read more

It is super busy so I'd recommend making a reservation - my husband and I came pretty early on a Sunday and got a seat at the bar, but if we came any later it would've been impossible. And all the servers speak English which is a plus. Anyway the food here is reallyyy good and beautifully plated - they have an amazing vegan breakfast called the Vegan Wake Up which is healthy, filling, AND delicious. Its like a sampler platter so you get to try a bit of everything (a lifesaver for an indecisive person like me). It comes with a mini bowl of oatmeal with fruit, an acai bowl, a green juice, rye toast with beet hummus, a corn and sweet potato fritter with avocado mash, and a quinoa croissant with jam! I did not expect to love The Big Easy as much as I did. It sounds simple, but packs a flavor punch. I have never enjoyed a plain omelette before. I have never enjoyed cottage cheese before. Both were done well, very satisfying, and left me feeling a little healthier after a week of meat and potatoes and pastries. I wouldn't order the pomegranate pistachio croissant again, though. The croissant is good but the pink icing made it overly sticky-sweet. It was like a donut. Too much. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the weather. The service was hit or miss, our first waitress was not very friendly or helpful but our waiter the second time was amazing. We both ordered one of the breakfast plates, mine was alright. But my boyfriend loved the his "the vegan power plate". We split a side of pancakes and agreed that they were very dry and bland. I think this place is probably better for breakfast/brunch than dinner, but we still had a nice dinner here. They have a pretty wide variety of dishes to try - more fusion than traditional Austrian food, which is nice. We had to wait about 30-45 min for a table for 2 on a Saturday night - it was pretty crowded and busy and very happening place. We got an appetizer, the shared platter, and an entree for 2 people and we were stuffed - the portions are quite large and we could have just gotten 2 of the 3 things that we ordered. Pumpkin Salad - This was better than I thought it would be - it was roasted pumpkin, figs, over couscous. It was quite large for a salad and pretty filling because of the couscous. The ingredients were fresh and it was an interesting combination. Sharing / Tasting Platter - This was such a huge selection of little bites from their menu and a great option to order if you are indecisive about what to order and want to try a bunch of stuff. This is one of the largest tasting plates I've ever seen and there were so many options on there they started to blend into one another! There was a chicken skewer (was okay), avocado salad (kind of an Asian inspired salad with peanuts), smoked salmon (I liked this), some glazed carrots, pork belly, some cheese, and some breads and flatbreads. There may have been other things that I cant remember. Definitely worth getting so you can try a little of everything. I would have been happy to get this if I was dining solo, and it would be enough for 2-4 people to share as an appetizer. I didn't care for the beef stroganoff that came with pasta - it was so salty I had one bite and then didn't touch the rest. Luckily my husband was hungry so he ate this, but he did agree that it was salty. Overall, we had a good experience at the restaurant minus the beef stroganoff. Interesting food, a lot of options for things to eat, good vegetarian/healthy options on the menu, and inexpensive for the portions you get. We wanted to get breakfast here the next day but woke up too late but we would come back here again on another trip to Vienna. read more

We stayed at a boutique hotel about a block from Erich & Ulrich and have to admit, we've been here twice in 24 hours. The first night we sat at the bar and enjoyed a delicious cab sauv produced in Vienna - quite nice. Being from the Bay Area with Napa and the big cabs produced there in my backyard, it took a few sips to find my appreciation for the lighter bodied local wine but once I did, I ordered another glass. With that said, incorporating wines from around Europe would be a welcome addition! The second night we came in, we had a light dinner. BF had a flatbread with mozzarella, basil and tomato sauce - it was served on a very thin wheat crisp and covered in a tomato sauce that could use a little more seasoning but the mozz and basil added the bit of salty herbiness that it needed. I ordered the avocado quinoa salad that was SO tasty and flavorful - I ate every bite! We watched dish after dish come out of the kitchen - each dish was beautiful and unique and made me wish I had more of an appetite. The service here is kind, playful and responsive - exactly what you'd want in a casual environment. We don't have anything like this in NYC and it's a shame, the food prices were very cheap for the quality of food and I was left really full. I got the Vegan wake up call which came with a curry flavored corn fritter which was not my favorite. It was very strongly curry favored but not salty, then I realized that you're supposed to add the salt yourself. And the salt they had was super fancy too. The beet hummus was really good, they had cucumbers with red bell peppers in it to dip. The oatmeal was really good, the three tiny pieces of fruit on it was nice and ripe. The avocado with cherry tomatoes could have been riper but it was coated in this vinegar olive oil which was delicious. The presentation of the whole thing was so pretty and cute. My friends got the Tabula Rasa which is basically cold cuts/salami, cheese and bread with a soft boiled egg, and The Big Easy which was an omelette with a roasted tomato, spinach, and avocado cheese toast. ULRICHSPLATZ 1, right off the street of Burggasse, this is quite the popular place on the weekends, mostly occupied by university students, so reservations are suggested. Ulrich is a very modern, hip, cool place that reminds me of Freiraum, but with simple plain decor. Dim lighting makes for a relaxed environment. Along with breakfast smoothies and juices, their Chai tea is absolute delicious. They make it themselves using a selection of teas, and provide you with milk and honey on the side so you can also customize the sweetness and flavor of your drink. Then they got their breakfasts. Their breakfast sandwich, with toasted bread, grilled gouda, crispy bacon, eggs with herbs, spinach leaves, red onion, cucumber, and spicy tomato relish is super yummy. This was a huge sandwich, so I was satisfied from this. My partner got an egg omelette with herbs, baby spinach with dressing, toasted tomato, and a very savory, unique side of bread with cottage cheese, dukkah, and avocado. How creative!
