I love Austrian sourdough bread, and I am so glad that I found the 48-hour fermentation sourdough loaf here. I bought a loaf and immediately started tearing into it...without even cutting it. (To ensure you that I am not a savage, I was traveling and did not have a bread knife.) I like the bread's thick crust and soft interior. It is good with butter, jam, or even just plain. I have tried a few pastries here (poppyseed pastry, cheese Danish) and they are good, but I still prefer their breads over their pastries. Absolutely adorable bakery with a small sit-down area for meals to eat on premises, but they offer to-go also. We had the best service! We were waiting for a table to open up and it was very close to the kitchen close time. Our sever took our order and put it in before the kitchen closed so we could still eat when it was time to sit. My mother and I stopped by Joseph Brot for lunch, and we enjoyed it. We wanted to try the kipferl and apfelstrudel since they are iconic Austrian pastries, and they were yummy. The kipferl was great - it was so soft and it melts in your mouth, and the apfelstrudel tasted fresh and natural. My mom had a coffee, however, and she said it wasn't good at all. The bakery itself has a clean aesthetic vibe, and it has both indoor and outdoor seating which is nice. The service was good as well. Easy to find and well located. This is where to the locals go and you should too. There will most likely be a line, but you won't have to wait long. It's a small place and a little cramped, but totally worth it. Service is quick and fast. Food was super fast coming out and delicious. Friendly service, which is rare in Vienna. The coffee was exceptional, went back multiple times for a simple latte during my trip because it was the best I had out of all the cafes in the city center. The decor here was minimalist but very nice. We had Iunch here and ordered the avocado spelt toast, "the Healthy" which was similar to smoked salmon toast with a side of chia granola pudding and the daily special which was something I could pronounce but also good. While in Vienna I went to many cafe's. There are plenty. Most are the same and not really worth mentioning. But this gem is. Joseph brot is so much more than just a coffee shop. It is an amazing bakery with fresh bread and other tasty creations. Attached is an amazing modern cafe. With clean interiors and cool staff. It is hip it is young but it is inviting. Also it is the best coffee in town. And you can get a light clean mean. The menu is seasonal and exciting. The food is vibrant and delicious. I loved the radicchio salad! Enjoy! read more

My favorite breakfast in Vienna. Open, bright and almost modern ambiance. Only 12 small tables. Many people pick up food at the bakery to go. They also have table service. The healthy breakfast was delicious. Fresh bread with salmon, avocado cream, cottage cheese with 2 perfectly poached eggs. Also a side of vanilla chia pudding with granola. Everything was so good. You can get eggs Benedict with salmon instead of ham. My son said it was really good. He finished it without giving me a bite. Croissant was really good per my wife. The avocado toast was really good. Lot of avocado. Bread with butter and chives sounds so deceptively simple but it was quite flavorful. Banana bread is also super delicious. Warm soft and a little chocolatey. The portions are not overly large but quite filling. The grapefruit ginger lemonade is very gingery and not that sweet. I liked it. White chocolate matcha latte was a little sweet. Time turmeric ginger latte was perfect. Would highly recommend for anyone. read more

Super tiny place. Simple menu. Delicious New York Lox bagel sandwich. Good location. I didn't like having to balance on a ledge to eat my bagel because they only had two tables inside. Jospeh Brot is so good that I would consider visiting Vienna again just so I could try everything on this menu! While on my four-day trip there, we ended up going there twice--once for dessert and once for brunch. First of all, just the decor and set up of the space is so lovely--minimal and almost homey. We actually ended up having the same waitress twice who was absolutely lovely and sweet with recommendations for us. For dessert, I got the wine spritzer while we shared the apple strudel and one of their chocolate desserts, both of which were absolutely delicious and very fresh. For brunch, I got their beet smoothie (which is more of a juice) and the eggs benedict. I don't eat pork so when I requested no ham, she quickly offered spinach or salmon as an alternative, and the spinach with it was great! As we I am a student, this place was a bit pricy (probably since I'm also not used to the euro conversion) but very much worth it. Would absolutely recommend! read more

I am shocked and honored to be the first reviewer for this incredible bakery! We are visiting Vienna from Los Angeles and just happened upon this gem while walking around on our last day of a river cruise, and after 10 days of outstanding food. Much to our surprise this humble spot was a culinary highlight of Vienna! We weren't even hungry to be honest, but were temped by the idea of an Austrian bagel, being self-proclaimed "bagel connoisseurs" between years spent in New York and Montreal. Well, these are unlike any of the bagels in those aforementioned cities - we tried the seeded sourdough bagel with homemade plain cream cheese and it was to die for! This is the softest bagel you will ever eat. It's actually more like bread in that it doesn't have that chewy bagel quality, but I didn't feel it was lacking in any way whatsoever - it was just so darn good and different. The homemade cream cheese was scrumptious as well. I have no idea how one makes homemade cream cheese but I do feel like attempting it after trying this creamy goodness. We also tried the pumpkin cream cheese muffin which was perfectly moist and delicious on the bottom and a little crumbly-crunchy on the top. It was absolutely divine, and I'm a pumpkin nut with rather high pumpkin standards. The sweetness and spice were spot on and I could even actually taste the pumpkin itself, not just the spice mix that tends to replace *actual* pumpkin in everything "pumpkin spiced" in the States. Lastly we each got a soy cappuccino which were also excellent and luxuriously foamy (that isn't always easy to do with soy milk). Out flight was cancelled today so we have one more day in the city... Our first consolation was that we could go back to Joseph Brot for more carb-bliss! read more

Nice enough organic bakery with awful, awful, awful customer service. Came for breakfast on Sunday morning and after waiting in line 20 minutes they ignored us. 'Sorry, I thought you already ordered.' Ordered pancakes and ham and cheese sandwich which had a slab of butter about 1/2 inch thick. We returned it untouched and asked for pancakes instead. 2nd order never came. Double espresso and America coffee we asked for cream on the side (standard elsewhere in Vienna) we got whipped cream in cups. We were very polite and said we thought there was a miscommunication, we wanted liquid cream). Waitress said no. Total for 1 American 1 double espresso and 1 pancakes €15.80. When I brought up the issue with the order of pancakes she said 'it's ok.' I said it's not really ok, one person had breakfast the other didn't. Waitress shrugged.
