I've been coming here for about two years, off and on, for pedicures; the place is run by a husband-wife team. They both have heavy SE Asian accents, so I've always had trouble communicating with them, which may or may not be an issue for others. The good: They take cleanliness seriously, with many tools coming from a sterilizer (although the pumice stones seem to be reused with only a rinse, based on what I saw). They always wear face masks, and there are clear plastic panels hung between their station and the massage chair pedicure station. The prices are very affordable, but I've only ever done basic pedicures with sometimes a basic manicure. The neutral: The place plays piano "Muzak" only -- the same CD, over and over. It could be worse, but they didn't quite attain the "soothing spa" environment they might have been trying for. Furnishings are old and somewhat worn; again, meh ambience, but irrelevant to the service. The not-so-good: I usually get my pedicures from the husband; he is thorough and careful, and my nails end up looking good. While he isn't always willing to give me what I ask for, he'll take the time to try to tell me why I can't have it (in particular: nail shape -- I have square beds but hate square nails; and the callus-shaving, which he won't always do to my satisfaction, telling me the calluses are there to protect something -- I think). He often comes across as a bit brusque and impatient with me, but that might just be more communication problems. I had a pedicure from the wife of the team last time. I find her even more difficult to understand than the husband, and she seems to have a harder time understanding me. She also seems to focus more on speed than on care. First, she didn't give me any time to do more than dip my feet in the pedicure tub before she got started -- a three minute soak first would have made the callus removal easier and more thorough. I like my toenails a working length: just shy of the end of the toe, so I'm not gouging my shoes. She cut them back so short they feel like I have ten stubbed toes, and she cut down the sides of the toenails, cutting ME in the process. It hurt, and I said "ouch!" When she cut me, but she didn't apologize or say anything. One cut was bad enough she had to apply pressure with cotton to get the bleeding to stop. The callus removal was less thorough than I prefer, although she did use the callus shaver, which I like. She wasn't able to get the calluses on my pinky toes, which are difficult to reach and take care to properly deal with. I had a manicure this time as well. Some of my nail beds are oval, and some are square; I prefer rounded, working-length nails (just a bit past the ends of my fingers). Some of my nails ended up rounded, and some ended up square; she tried to explain that they matched the nail bed, and to round them would go down the sides too much. I wish she'd discussed that with me beforehand. I have really thin, fragile, friable nails; I had to stop her from filing the tops too much. (I don't care if you are trying to smooth them; if they flake and peel and break as a consequence, that is not ideal.) point is: two years, and not only have they never bothered to learn my preferences, but I've also never particularly felt welcome. Final straw: it's a week later, and the too-short toenails still hurt. My big toe, where she seriously cut down along the side, is red and sore. I'll be soaking in Epsom salts for a while, it seems. And seriously growing out my toenails before I go looking for a different nail salon. read more

I went in at 5 pm and asked if they had availability to do a pedicure and fill in. As I write this it's 5:59 pm, they are not supposed to close til 7 pm (see card), during the pedicure I asked if I could change my color as the color didn't look good on me as it did on the fake nails where you choose your color. I wanted to do a darker red. Lucy said no it will take too long and you don't have an appointment. ??? There's no appointment only sign and I asked if they could take me and they made me a pedi bowl, am I missing something? There was another customer who was a regular and their neighbor apparently that came in at 5:30 pm and she was treated totally different from me. I remained calm because I didn't want Lucy to have an excuse to further treat me poorly. I asked her if she would change my color and she said no again, and at that time I explained I would pay for my service thus far go somewhere else, and asked if I could have the owners information. She gave me the card and not the owners info. I stated I should not be charged full price since my toes are half done (she wasn't even finished when I asked for a polish switch- which is ironically a service they provide, go figure). She said I will charge you $30, the full price would have been $45, I said okay. As she realized her conscience was getting louder she decided not to charge and just told "just go somewhere else we don't want you here. I don't mind." That's when it was clear to me, that "you" meant the difference between me and the woman that came in at 5:30, 30 minutes after me, was me being a black woman. No matter how educated, employed, or civil...if you go here you're still a person of color and that's not their desired demographic. That's my experience. read more

Wow - horrible. I volunteer for Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the mother I work with called me to tell me about the experience she just had. The woman in the chair next to her stared her down the entire time she was getting a pedicure. She is black and new to the south side. She said she has never experienced that while living there for the last few months. What's even more upsetting? She thinks the woman must be a regular because the person doing her pedicure witnesses this entire thing and said nothing while passing niceties to her the entire time. I set in the chair getting my toes done for three damn hours. I asked for cat eye nail polish. They messed up the first polish. They had to redo them again, and still didn't know what they was doing. All they had to do was say, they are not good a cat eye polish. The old lady tech became frustrated, When I had concerns of correcting them. But I'm paying for services, that should have been provided correctly. If you can't, then no problem, Say that. Lole anyone else I can take my service else where. It's as simple as that. As far as your run-of-the-mill nail salons go, LT Nails is perfectly fine in my book. My friend and I went in for manicures and pedicures and had a pretty good experience. The staff's English skills are a little iffy, but they are friendly and do a good job. The salon seems pretty clean, so that's a plus - no girl wants to get her nails done at a dirty salon! The mini massages that come with the manis and pedis are great, but the best part about the experience for me has been the fact that their great file job on my fingernails has lasted a REALLY long time -- a full month! Of course, the polish didn't last that long, but I got a full week out of it. My only complaint was that my friend and I both had our pedicures started at the same time, and my manicure was finished before the time her pedicure was done! So all the manicurists there might not work quite as fast as each other - just know that when you go in, because by the time my friend's manicure was done, I had already sat waiting for 45 minutes! read more

Although the work is okay I am very fed up. It took me a while to realize it but this place is not minority friendly. I've noticed them act strange towards anyone(not just black people) that aren't white. Im black and im a regular weekly customer but these people won't even give me eye contact and always rush me out no matter how friendly I am or how much I consistently tip. I went in to get a pedi after being laid up for a couple of months from surgery. So my feet were not in good shape, however I have never been spoken to in that manner before. There was a young Asian man there that made fun of my feet. I felt it was unprofessional and an unwanted comment. I told him that I had surgery and was laid up for a couple of months and wasn't able to come in to get a pedi last month. Now I am a very fair person and have been going to LT Nails for several years and never been treated this way. However I personally will be shopping around for another nail salon. I hate to write this review but after going to this nail salon after 7+ years I will never go back after my most recent visit. My mom, my sister and I had arrived at the salon as they opened on a Saturday at 10am and they were packed so we asked for an appointment time later that day and said we would return. Later that afternoon, we arrived five minutes late for our appointment. The owner proceeded to give us a lecture in the front of the salon for being late. Explaining that it was prom season and that because of our tardiness we had messed up his schedule for the rest of the day. I have never been so embarrassed in my entire life or in shock. We attempted to explain that we were sorry and asked how late we could be before loosing our appointment. I would have left right away had my sister and mom not wanted to stay because we had gift certificates. But we proceeded to the pedicure seats (no one else was getting pedicures) my sister was waiting for the third staff member to start hers. As my mom and I sat with our feet in scalding hot water. The owner decides he is not too busy to come over for a round two. He continues to ridicule us for being late and had the balls to actually point at my mother and call her mean. I could not believe it, I have never in my life seen my mom be mean to a soul, including this man. I stood up and walked out, wet feet and all. Not my proudest of moments, but I was so freaking mad and embarrassed that I could not sit there while the entire salon looked on and listened to this man berate me and my family. I honestly have never been more upset at a business in my life. I loved coming to the salon it was something that my mom, sister and I really enjoyed doing together. But needless to say I will be finding a new "spot" to relax and get a pedicure. I work really hard for my money and so does my mom, I certainly won't be spending it somewhere that I am not valued as a customer. P.S. Went by the Kroger next door to do my grocery shopping after this incident and after finishing up my shopping drove past LT Nails to find that it was practically empty. He must have had a lot of appointments that were REALLY messed up from us being 5 minutes late. Clearly, not. He was a total jerk, beware. read more

I went to go get a pedi & the lady had my water so hot and I kept telling her to turn it down my feet were burning and taking them out and she didn't speak English and was so confused till finally the owner/manager or something heard me n told her so that was anything but relaxing then she offered me a mani for only $10 more so I decided why not I still need to relax (as that's why I came there) but then she looked confused when I wanted to pick a different color for my fingernails and again another person who spoke better English had to help her communicate with me... Long story short the end result turned out beautiful and she DID do a great job but my experience was anything but relaxing... Others seemed to know better English so maybe they need to come up with a plan for her to improve that... This was my 1st time here but I'm scared to go back... I went in today for the first time, treating myself to a birthday present. The pedi I got from Mary was FABULOUS!!! I told her its my 1st pedicure for "sandal season" and apologized. I know my feet were in bad shape. She wasn't put off by it and we talked through most of the pedi. I will go back there if I get her. I have been going to LT nail for 3 years now. I think the owners do the best job so I always ask for them. I have been to other places but their work lasts the longest. The prices are fair.
