Decided to try out Lowkey during a trip to Robinson. Was excited about the custom margaritas and tacos, but was trying to stay on the healthy side. Service was OK. It's during a pandemic, so I expect things to be a bit slow and they were, but the servers were helpful. Our son ordered a couple of tacos and my wife and I ordered the salads (large). We also ordered a pitcher of habanero margaritas. The margaritas were super-sweet. No detectable booze, and 5, 1/16" thin slivers of habanero at a $4 upcharge. Not worth it in the least. It's a habanero pepper, not saffron. $4? The tacos (according to our 14 yr old who devours everything in sight) were ok. Our salads were pathetic. Essentially a large plate of shredded lettuce with a sprinkling of cheddar cheese and tomatoes. We both had added "carne asada" as our protein for an additional $6. That ended up being 4 (for me) and 6 (for her) tiny slices of sirloin streak, about 2" by 1/8". It was sad. For a $16 salad, it was pathetic. The overall feel of the menu and place are trying to be high-end, specialty taco joint, with prices to match. But the execution is fast food quality... with (maybe) booze. No thanks. read more

Unfortunately I have to give my first bad review. I tried this place out May 7th for takeout only and wasn't crazy about it but wanted to try it again. The margaritas were actually great until you got to the bottom where all the extra salt was. We got the trio of dips - pineapple salsa (which had a strange tang to it that I attributed it to being old and going bad), guac, and queso. The guac and queso were OK, but there just seemed to be something off about them. I had a shrimp taco and pork taco and only took 3 bites total. The fries were almost tough to the bite, although the flavor and ranch were good. I'm disappointed and sorry I have to write a bad review, but this place just didn't do it for me. The service was amazing , the blue raspberry margarita, and the street corn were delicious those are the only reasons this place got 3 stars. The queso was runny and had a lack of taste. Most of the food was bland and was not flavorful. My brother in law got beans with his meal and when he tasted them he got the strong taste of cigarettes, I also tasted it in my burrito, which had beans. We had other people taste and smell it and it smelled like an ashtray. We let the waitress know and the manager came over and apologized. They were great and offered us anything we wanted, took these off our bill, and said they would look into it. I'll go back for drinks but will end up going somewhere else for the food. It just wasn't that good this time, but the service was great. Maybe, I'm the future, I'll give it a try again. For now, I'll stay away. read more

6 people and no one ate their meal, the margaritas were warm flavored syrup with some ice and booze, 1 order was wrong from start, chicken taco was overcooked and inedible. Salad was shredded lettuce. Just over all none of it was appetizing. Server should have spotted that no one was eating and tried to help. Ambiance is ok. So after $160 for dinner we had to stop somewhere else on the way home. Bummer read more

We visited Lowkey taco last night and unfortunately it was underwhelming. The place has a cool vibe (I always love a fun Pittsburgh themed mural) and the service was excellent ....which leaves the food. I ordered a cocktail and my boyfriend ordered a beer. The beer was great (Volcano Sauce on tap) while my cocktail (Lavender Vida Loca) was brought to the table unmixed with all the lavender syrup sitting at the bottom. We ordered two appetizers (street corn, and chips+spicy guacamole). The street corn was excellent! Unfortunately the guacamole was not remotely spicy and a bit too salty (tasted like it was processed not fresh made). Then came our main entrees. I love a good rice&beans combo so was excited to see it as an optional side with the taco platters unfortunately the sides were served in small 2 oz plastic containers so definitely disappointing. I ordered the lil uzi verd tacos on soft corn. The tortillas tasted a bit rough like they had been baked? But the main issue with the tacos was that they were INCREDIBLY greasy. I had a couple bites but could not finish. In the time I was holding the taco over my plate while I took those two bites, a large puddle of grease had accumulated on my plate. I held up the other taco to test how greasy it was only to find the same amount of grease dripping from it. Overall the place has a decent concept and vibe but unfortunately the food and drink quality is not there. I would love to see more skilled chefs/bartenders come in to help the place reach its potential. read more

Loved it! The tacos were fast and tasty (no Taco Bell garbage, actual interesting/different tacos) the reaper/hot sauce toppings were actually hot, and the margaritas were really good. We even got dessert (cinnamon sugar house made chips with ice cream) which we never do --and loved those as well. Total bill including a decent tip [5 tacos (yes, they will be a little smaller tacos--this isnt applebees, these are specialty tacos!) 2 margaritas, a side of rice, and desert was about $40. We had a fun day shopping in Pittsburgh and was really looking forward to trying this spot. We talked it about it all day and how much we were looking forward to eating here. Our service was excellent and our appetizer was excellent as well. We had the Trinity and it was so good, we couldn't stop eat it. The guacamole was very fresh and had a great flavor. I wish I would of stopped there. I also ordered the Johnny Hopkins in a bowl, I wasn't really impressed at all my rice was in flavorful and a bit undercooked and it was just underwhelming. The three people in our party that ordered bowls all said the same thing. We were just not impressed. Maybe we built it up in our heads that we were all just ehh? I would however go back for a beer and some chips and guacamole. I just don't think I'll order an entree. read more

Lowkey was pretty cool. Me and a few coworkers tried them out lunch today. The artwork inside of the establishment was really cool as well. This place is a lot like Condado if you've been there. If not, you can build your own taco! Chose everything from shell to toppings. They also have pre made tacos that you can chose from. The queso and Guac are both really good, and the margaritas are some of my favorite. The painting on the walls is super cool as well. Definitely check it out! read more

I came here for happy hour with my coworkers. There's nothing terrible about this place. Clean, good service, nice space. But I didn't care for it. The food isn't great. The ingredients are good quality, but whoever put together the menu had no regard for how flavors go together. Each dish I tried (several tacos, chips, salsa) never felt like it was a true dish, just a bunch of ingredients. They need a head chef who knows what they're doing. read more

Really disappointing. Got the carne asada enchiladas - they came out without napkins or a knife, were super greasy and seemed reheated, and had a big chunk of gristle in them. The side of rice and beans came in a pair of plastic cups and were definitely microwaved or something - the beans were especially bad, being super watery, tasting old, and coming out with a thick layer of hardened beans on top and liquid-y beans underneath. For $16, I expected good enchiladas - these were worse than any $12 enchilada orders I've had. Another person in our party got tacos and they were extremely greasy and not nearly large enough to justify being $13/2 either. I know prices are up but the prices here are still kind of ridiculous for what you get. Regardless of price, though, I would have been disappointed - the quality is not good here. read more

If you're thinking about trying a new taco place - DON'T let it be this one. From the moment I walked in it was extremely obvious that Lowkey Taco is trying to copy Condado (Downtown PGH). Their entire store is painted in murals (just like Condado), their menu is build your own (just like Condado), & the same exact "speciality shells" as Condado. it's more expensive & WAY worse. I ordered the "impossible blend" since I'm vegetarian & it was disgusting. I took two bites & refused to eat any more. It was so sweet & had an unidentifiable aftertaste. The vibe in the restaurant is kind of off putting, if you don't know what you want right away it seems the servers get visibly irritated. If you're someone who suffers from social anxiety, I don't recommend this place. On top of everything - I started to feel sick to my stomach BEFORE I even got the check to pay, went home & was sick for hours on end. Definitely won't be going back again. Their one saving grace was that the salsa/guacamole was pretty good. The chips were good, but that's it. & the chips aren't free. As far as taco places go, I was somewhat unimpressed. The best part of my tacos was the brisket, a holdover from the restaurant's excellent predecessor, Stout, which had amazing brisket dishes. The margerita flavors seemed inspired, but they were low on alcohol and high on sugar for the price. The tacos themselves were mediocre - not enough spice or flavor for my liking. They only just opened, so I'd stop by and give them a shot to form your own opinions, but I'll probably continue to head downtown to Condado for my tacos. read more

I'll start off by saying: - Great Beer Selection - Awesome atmosphere with the bar, artwork, and outdoor porch... The Tacos we just very average to meh. Other than the pool of liquid each taco would seep out, I can't really say what to do better with them, but the flavors just seemed mushed together with no distinct flavor. We got the trio of dips, which I really enjoyed, but they gave us one small little basket of chips at first, which 2 of us went through in about a minute. I can see people not liking the queso (very gritty) but I enjoyed it. Overall C- : Food was meh, Service was meh, Price just not worth it for quality. Being a taco lover, I had to try this place on opening weekend. We were very satisfied! Our waitress was super friendly and attentive. We tried the guac, queso, and salsa verde as an appetizer. The housemade chips are fantastic! The menu has pre-crafted tacos or you can choose to build your own. I had two of the pre-crafted tacos and they were super tasty! The tortillas are soft and delicious and I loved the carnitas. We'll be returning to try lots of other options! read more

Love going to Lowkey Taco it is a place my family request to come to every time they are in town! A good place to go for Mexican food that is a little different and if you ask anyone in my family you have to try the street corn! It's a great place to hangout with friends with a laid back feel and great margarita flights! Watch for seasonal drinks too because they had a really good Christmas themed shot flight. read more

Truly fantastic service (quick, kind, followed order notes, made sure our bottomless margaritas were always full) and the food was tasty. Overall, we had a really wonderful lunch experience here. Great music and we loved the local pittsburgh wall art. Three cheers for a Robinson restaurant that isn't a national chain! The only negative comment would be that we were really not fans of the flashing overhead lights throughout the restaurant. We both felt they were a little annoying. Painfully average. Which is a bummer because Robinson is in dire need of a great taco place. I will say that the margaritas are great and they have an awesome selection of beer; so it's a solid spot for happy hours especially when the bar is open to the outdoor patio! The service was subpar, which is especially disappointing seeing as it was the grand opening weekend. It's not like it was even busy - there were only 6 tables filled in the entire restaurant and no one at the bar (which tells you how poor of a job of marketing they did). To cap it off, the chips were awful. The pico and queso were great, but the chips literally tasted like greasy cardboard. Tacos were once again, average. This place overall for food is not good. We had several different tacos, done several different ways and they were way overpriced for the quality of ingredients. Their rice and beans were bland. Overall, great addition to Robinson just needs some fine tuning. -great beer list. Lots of local drafts. -outdoor seating and bar area was very nice. -chips are home made but ours were lacking salt...I'll chalk it up to being new. -gauc was homemade but lacking salt and lime. Again, I forgive them. -dog friendly outside..Not sure if every day or just weds. -tacos were ok. There was nothing that popped out to me. I had the teriyaki swordfish but could barely taste any teriyaki...plus jalapeños overpowered taco. I also had a smoked chicken taco and it was ok. -inside decor...One wall is cool and has skull candy...One wall is has cartoon graffiti. While the quality graffiti was good, it didn't fit. Our server was very nice. So again, great spot, will def go back. It just didn't blow me away. All in all I give it a 3.4 out of 5 but will revisit as I have high hopes. read more

I have never seen so many mismatched flavours. From Queso to smoked chicken Tacos. Took a bite of each dish ordered, paid and left. The Queso with Fresno sause tasted like wallpaper glue, salsa had too much going on and even the guacamole had nothing but garlic flavour to it. Btw, don't match beef and pickled radishes! This was my first and last visit here. If you do go, though, go for the very nice ambiance, grab a beer and watch a game on TV. read more

I ordered 2 tacos to go. I had the girl that answered the phone pick from the most popular. I got a hard shell Erlich Bachman. It was sooo spicy hot that I could not finish it, and I like spicy. The chicken was dry and minimal. It was a nice size, and the shell was good. But why on earth would she not explain the level of heat...can not possibly be a best seller, or the chef of the day messed up. 2nd she picked Lil Uzi verd on soft shell. It was about 3 inches in diameter. Super small. Tasty and the carnitas was very good. But way too small. The service was okay, but workers all seemed to be confused on To Go orders, and the girl who waited on me didn't have change in her drawer for a $10, and bill was 8.50. I want to like this place because I love tacos/Mexican and the place looks really fun, but my first impression was not good. I will follow up with another review if I go back. read more

It would be 5 stars, but the thing about Lowkey Taco is, it's always different. Normally, still good, no real complaints about the food, but it's weird how the same orders, same tacos, can taste different every time. We've had people order bowls that got their protein forgotten on the bowl. Things happen, but when you order take out, it's kind of a drag having to go back and get either your food remade or a refund. Irregardless of the little things that can easily be fixed with attention to detail and additional training, really good tacos and margaritas! The take out margaritas these days is a nice touch, although before they got the Capri Sun like to go pouches, it looked like spiked take out soup! Lol read more

Finally got a chance to check this place out, and it's a mixed bag. The decor/art work is pretty cool and gives off a good vibe to hang out and enjoy some drinks. Great happy hour and decent service. Started out at the bar and they were pretty attentive, service slipped up a little when we moved to a table but the waitress seemed new and was eager to fix any problem that happened. Holy $hit--I wish they would've warned me that "Reaper" is the hottest pepper in the world! -not funny. Update: it is now the next day and my esophagus and stomach feel like they are burned. You don't serve what the Guinness Book of World records calls the Hottest Pepper in the World without a clear warning to the customer. Ridiculous. read more

Highly recommend. Best tacos I had in awhile. The menu is large but not overwhelming and the tacos were creative and delicious. The atmosphere inside reminded me of being in Mexico. The lighting gave it a intimate club feel which me and my partner enjoyed. There is spacious outdoor seating perfect for a group of friends. The margaritas are very strong!! So much so I had to finish my partners for her, but I was not complaining HA! Do yourself a favor and check out this great new spot with some friends read more

Listen. This is the best place in Robinson, hands down, to eat. The tacos are unbelievable. I haven't had a bad one yet. They have a new menu and the swordfish is gone. I cannot stand all the chain places out there. Low key is the only place with a personality. I love this place and I want everyone to go there!
