Very disappointed! I made a reservation for a party of 9 after my daughters recital. The woman on the phone took all my information down and repeated it back to me. When I showed up they told me they didn't have my name for a reservation. Fortunately enough the place was dead and we could get seated. I had the fried clam plate. It was disgusting clams were burnt and hardly had any bellies. We have been disappointed in the past few times we have gone there. Will not be going back anytime soon. read more

I like a place that can serve me eggs and bacon with a beer or mixed drink. This place doesn't only hook you up on that front but the breakfast (served all day) is delicious. I don't know why I'm writing a review for this restaurant since we didn't actually eat there. We went in with the intent of eating there, but the overpowering smell drove us out before we could place an order. I can only describe it as "nursing home". I did take note of the poor lighting and the wooden, unpadded benches they had at the booths. The overall combination of scent, lighting, and seating was too much and we had to leave. **Update** There must be some hard core Lowell's lovers out there because I got some straight up hate mail for this review. Came here once when my fiance and I first started dating. There was NO ONE in the restaurant and that should have been my first clue to run. We were seated and looked over the menu and decided on our meals. The waitress took nearly ten minutes to come take our drink order. We received our drinks and ordered: my fiance got a burger cooked medium rare. I got the chicken dinner special with fries, pasta, and a salad. Salad never came. When our food finally came out (about 20 minutes later) I mentioned to the waitress that I never got my salad and that I wanted a refill on my soda, and she gave me a nasty look and said "Well why didn't you say anything?"... Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know I had to track you down to get my salad... As we started eating, I noted that my food was FREEZING cold... Like not even luke warm. The chicken was overcooked and the pasta was cold. The fries were soggy. It was just all gross.. My fiance's burger came out medium well.. No pink in the middle. I told the waitress when she came back with my refill and salad that I was just going to eat the salad and that the food was overcooked and dry. She said she would take it off the bill, and she did. Enjoyed a good breakfast with my little guy. The food was good but took a little too long coming out for a fidgety 5 year old. I also would have expected a fresh refill on my coffee while I was eating breakfast but was finally asked after I finished my breakfast. It was a typical busy Sunday so that could be the reason for the slow service. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean. My little guy loved the Mickey mouse pancakes. Entering this place, I was reminded by the old Lowell's. I think they brought some of their old banquettes. Clean place, friendly staff, and the outside ice cream windows were very nostalgic. It's been two weeks since eating here. My stomach has not been the same since. My dining partner and I had different seafood dishes, but within an hour our stomachs were topsy-turvy. The common part of our meals was cole slaw. He felt better after a day or so; that my gastric distress continues tells me that I might have unknowingly ingested dairy. The server was quite attentive...dashing back and forth to test the cook on dairy content of different menu items - my selection of a believed-to-be dairy-free dish was based on the information provided. Probably won't go back. Something about being sick for two weeks tells me that Lowell's has a way to go in recognizing the seriousness of food allergies. read more

First, I am pretty sure the waiter lied to us when he stated that a customer had driven 500 miles to this restaurant just for the clam dinner. I fell for it, and realized it couldn't be true as the clams were some of the worst I ever had. The plate and portions were small. The clams had no bellies to speak of. They were all crumbled bits, dry, etc. The fries were not hand cut, but clearly from a frozen bag. This clearly indicatedto me that the waiter must have been lying. He hook me as that order cost me $25. It was very over priced. My wife had the turkey dinner. Te mashed potatoes were clearly from the box. No fresh mashed here. I asked the waiter, and he confirmed that the mashed potatoes was from the box. Stay away from this mediocre and over priced restaurant. read more

This is the second time we have been here, the first for breakfast which was fast and very tasty. The portions were perfect. Today, the service was excellent and the food was delicious for a Friday dinner. We came at 3:30 pm, so there was no wait. There are so many choices on the menu, it took me forever to pick. I chose the baked fish and it was buttery and cooked perfectly. All the other dishes at my table were pretty and delicious as well. The price was right and we will eat at Lowell's every time we are in town. read more

I am not sure what is going on at Lowell's but with every visit it just keeps getting worse. On our last and final visit the service was a joke. I felt very uncomfortable as there was a lot of talking going on between staff about their personal lives and little attention being given to the customers. So much so when we walked in the door they continued their conversation before seating us or even greeting us. Now the most concerning part was that one appeared to be the owner or boss. The menu can use an update, there is just too many items to choose from that are just ok but nothing special anymore. I give them 2 stars only because of their roasted chicken, it is great but everything else needs some improving. I have been going to Lowell's for years and am sad to see a place that I used to enjoy going to and bring company to when visiting, go down hill. They would be a perfect candidate for a restaurant intervention from one of those Tv shows to save them. I see from other reviews that I am not the only one to notice this change and hopefully these reviews will be a wake up call that some changes need to be made there. It has been a few months since our last visit and this review but I was hoping to see a change before I wrote this review. But every time I decided to give Lowell's another try as I approached Lowell's the parking lot had very few cars. Never again! Got there last Sunday for a late breakfast. I was already skeptical as there were only a handful of cars in the lot, but decided to give it a chance. Big mistake. I ordered blueberry pancakes, no butter with home fries. Shortly thereafter I was brought french toast and home fries. I told the server (who was not the waitress who took my order) of the mistake and he said my order would be brought out shortly. He took the home fries back along with the french toast. Meanwhile, my breakfast companion is waiting to eat. So, the pancakes are finally brought out....not a blueberry to be seen....the waitress must have noticed my look and said the blueberries were under the pancakes. There was a tablespoon of some blueberry guck along with the butter I specifically said i didnt want. The home fries were cold, apparently sitting somewhere while they cooked the correct breakfast. Our waitress never once asked how the meal was. She did ask if i wanted to bring the leftovers home. As a previous poster said, this place has a 'nursing home' smell. I wasn't looking for 5 star....i just wanted pancakes and home cries. How simple is that? Now that i think about it, I should have kept the french toast! read more

Love this place - always have! Been going to this restaurant with my family at the original location as well as now at the new. Great Ice Cream, Seafood, Chicken dishes, Steak, Lamb, Western Egg Sandwiches, Salads, they even have Lime Rickey's in the Summer months. In the Fall they have delicious Apple Crisp. They have large portions or you can have a half portion. It is clean and I've not been disappointed, especially when I order the Bake Stuffed Haddock. The owners and wait staff have always been nice. It is a wonderful family place and in a good location when traveling from one part of the State to another. I shouldn't be writing this, now I will have to wait for a table, but it really is a well kept secret, and a nice ride in the country to a hidden gem. read more

We had the steak tips last night. They were tiny little chunks of meet we felt were cut from the worst cuts they had. They were chewy. The tips tasted more like a stew. I thought they were the worst disgusting cuts of meat. The taste was strange. We have eaten here before however, after this questionable beef dish, we will never go back. read more

This place is shameful. I had moved to the area and my girl suggested we go to this place. That first time, the stars were aligned or something, because it wasn't bad. Our sandwiches were nothing spectacular,but we were satisfied. When we tried a second time, I ordered chicken parm. First off, don't tout a chicken cutlet as fresh. If it comes out of a freezer, it is NOT fresh. The pasta was school spaghetti from the lunchlady ( 1/4 inch thick and the consistency of warm playdough). I chalked it up to a bad night. I have been in the restaurant biz for decades, I've had my share of sucky nights. The final trip, I figured I would start with chowder and cakes. The chowder was broken (soured from improper heat) and the cakes were still liquid batter inside. Although I never do it, I sent the cakes back. Expecting new ones, I got the exact same ones, even the opened one. I thought, well maybe they refried them. Nope... Micro waved. The culinary genius in the kitchen had popped them all in and micro-friggin-waved them. they were inedible, not taste-wise, I could not bite through them. Their trip in the way-back machine had transformed them to a leather-like substance that was unchewable. They actually bounced. Then my entree arrived; roast lamb. The question was: Lamb what? There, swimming in this lanolin-scented, greasy, brown sludge were three grisly, fat-plagued, slabs of what looked like neck tendon or something. That was it for Lowell's. Avoid this dump. read more

Used to be a lot better. Breakfast is still good, but a lot of the lunch/dinner items have gone downhill (not in price, of course, that keeps going up.) The cheeseburgers are standard- I can get 'em rare here (not always on the first try), but once you add on the lettuce, tomato, onion and swap out chips for french fries or onion rings, you're looking at a $9 burger. The last time I got chicken and mashed potatoes, I swear the potatoes were from a mix. The chowder I had was good, as were the clamcakes. The onion rings are the thin, wispy ones, and those are generally awesome. Service can be downright awful on the bar side (missing bartender for long periods of time), generally good on the restaurant side. Mixed drinks are pricey here, and there are no beers on tap. It is family friendly. They have an ice cream window open in the summer. Not a bad place for a quick breakfast or lunch, but there are better choices in the area. read more

Had dinner there last night with friends, and it was really really good. The staff was very friendly. They have Sierra Nevada on draft for $3, which was a great start. We shared a fried calamari appetizer, and the calamari was cooked just right, really tender and flavorful with chopped tomatoes, olives, and a few jalapenos (which gave a gentle kick but not too spicy). We had a big greek salad to share, and it was fresh and delicious, with excellent feta cheese. I had seafood fra diavolo, which I requested extra spicy, served over ziti. I got a very generous portion (more than I could finish, what with appetizer and dessert). It was bursting with sweet tiny clams, tender scallops, and shrimp, with a light tomato sauce which was spicier-than-usual but not over the top, just as I requested. I finished the meal with a slice of excellent pumpkin pie, with delicious ice cream on the side. I will definitely come back here again. read more

Went here for lunch today. Most disappointed in every aspect of our service. Mind you, since it is Father's Day, I made a reservation. We came in and it was busy. Not a big deal, however it took a good ten minutes before anyone even spoke to us. Finally, the hostess got us seated. Put 5 people at a booth even though there were TABLES in the back room. Mind you, my husband is 6'4" and the rest of us are 5'3" and up. To say the least, we were crowded. The waiter came right away and got our drink order and that came out right away. He then took our order. We saw two more TABLES come in after us and while I understand breakfast food is faster, the other two TABLES shouldn't have been almost done before we even received our lunch. Now I should also mention we got appetizers. We finally received our meals and still hadn't received our appetizers. They finally came after our meals were served. On the plus side he did not charge us for the appetizers. Now, I've been going to Lowell's since I was a child. And this has to be the worst meals we've ever been served. My husband ordered the Lobster special and it was overcooked. The waiter didn't even bother to bring extra napkins for him. One of my daughter's ordered the Fried Scallops and they were also over cooked and certainly not crunchy! I has the Roast Beef a jus and it was yet again over cooked. I also didn't receive my baked potato or Cole slaw. Now the lucky ones were my other daughter that ordered the Texas Burger and my MIL who ordered the Prime Rib, which was cooked to perfection. I am so disappointed in this experience that it may be a long while before we return. Let me add an even worse part of this experience. We paid our bill and left a cash tip on the table. A small tip, but one nonetheless. Was checking my banking yesterday to find out that the waiter added $20 to our bill. It's not only ridiculous that the server added the money to our bill, but it's also illegal!! We did call and the manager has since refunded our money. But the overall experience here was horrible. I liked Lowell's when it was in the center of town before the fire. The last time I went their newer place I waited for 20 minutes at the bar for service and was simply ignored. There was only a couple of people at the bar at the time. Needless to say I complained at the desk on the way out. They have lost me as a customer for good because of bad service and an indifferent attitude by management. read more

Not fine dining for dinner ...canned beans and instant mash potatoes. I think the fried food is suppose to be very good so I will need to go back.
