This was one of our favorite spots when my husband used to live in Sacramento a few years back. We had the pleasure of visiting again recently and it's just as vibrant and lively as we remember (if not more now due to the addition of their expanded outdoor seating area). This whole block has been closed to traffic to become an entire bustling outdoor dining area, which is great to see. We stopped by on a very busy Friday evening, but were surprisingly seated within 10 minutes. I'm not sure what the indoor situation is like, but you have to line up and outdoor at the bar set up outside for both food and drinks. Note: there is an automatic 15% tip added to your bill already. Saturday, 6/20/2020 - Checked out LowBrau this evening for drinks and a good time. This place is packed! But they are trying to keep groups 6 feet apart. They even have a whole sheet of directions for each group to follow. There's tables inside. The street in front of this block is shut down and they have seating outside. It's cutely decorated. Pros: 1) you do have to check in with the hostess. 2) when the line got too long to check in, they asked everyone to make one single line on the sidewalk, vs everyone standing everywhere bunched up. 3) hostess seemed nice. 4) we waited like 5 minutes for our table. 5) drinks were ok. Maybe because I don't like fizzy drinks and thought I tried one again. I still didn't like fizzy drinks. 6) 2 hours for food and drinks and 1 hour for just drinks per table (they kindly ask) 7) the seating they created outside in the street was very cute. 8) everyone was very nice. Even strangers. Cons: 1) place was pretty packed and busy. 2) very loud. 3) when in line to go order, people don't stand 6ft apart. They are right up to you. There was so line to space them apart. 4) I didn't see much face masks on others that are standing around. To me, this place was ok. Inside the restaurant was too loud and a little too crowded for me (due to COVID19). I prefer outside seating when the weather isn't so hot at this location. I love this place! I can often be found on the patio closest to K st. I find it excellent for people watching and meeting interesting people. I don't rarely drink, so I never get bugged by servers... although I'm unsure if they have them anymore. Honestly, low brau is never been known for their service. I'm pretty sure you could die on the patio and they wouldn't know. Bathrooms are not fantastic and paper towels would be really nice. Some horizontal mirrors would be helpful instead of those awkward bathroom stall key bumps. We deserve more accommodating bathrooms for rec drug use! Bartenders have been kind enough to provide me a big ass litre water but I tip really well. outside music could be a bit more quiet but I'm old and like chatting with people. somehow I think I'll survive. read more

Omg so fun!! I'm surprised at the extreme variety of reviews on this place, and I'm glad my experience ended up on the good side of the scale. I came here with some friends and easily found a spot to sit at a communal table inside. Kinda wish I sat outside where a few dogs were hanging out, but it was a little toasty. Our waiter was engaging, energetic, and patient. The menu is relatively simple, but it's hard to pick from all the delicious beers and sausages. Eventually I went with the merguez, which has lamb, harissa, and cumin. My toppings were sauerkraut and jalapenos. Bomb combination, and perfect proportion of bread to sausage, which is key. For beer, I went with the hefeweizen. The only time I make an exception and drink lighter beers is at German places. Totally worth it... so much that I got a second beer before heading to the next bar. Love this whole street of restaurants, though I'd actually want to come to LowBrau again. I didn't read any reviews about this place, but I didn't realize they had security. Is this place not safe with or without them? First time going to a comedy show downtown as well as getting drinks at LowBrau. We had a bartender eager to get a drink for us and I told him this was our first time here and he suggested a couple of drinks we might like. When we paid for our drinks the total did not add up because this place adds on the gratuity automatically and he didn't feel as if he should tell us. So we double tipped him and we probably won't return because it just left a bad taste in my mouth. We don't mind tipping and my husband used to be a bartender, but it would have been kind if he simply let us know since it was our first time here. Any business that counts on customers ignorance by auto charging gratuity to supplement their worker wages, is not getting my business again. My friends and I came here today to have cocktails and appetizers. I noticed the menu for sausage board (3 sausages) said $22 but when I was rung up I was charged $25 plus tax and a 15% auto gratuity. That's before I even could assess whether or not the service and food were worthy of such. Everyone I came with was charged the auto gratuity and made the mistake of adding a tip on top of that. Maybe not illegal...but perhaps unethical. It makes me question what the owners are up to in the back room. Also, I've been here in the summer time and the burgers are not that great. I very much enjoyed this place. Trendy and casual it has a nice, comfortable vibe about it. It seems like the type of establishment where you can just settle in, sip some great beer, and munch on food. A great place for a group of people to hang together. I am amazed by the number of German themed brewhouse type restaurants popping up everywhere in the US when the small breweries in Germany, often with a Gasthaus type eatery attached are closing. There are a couple of large indoor seating areas, primarily benches at large long tables, with a very nice outdoor seating area overlooking the street. The menu is broad and nicely varied from salads to entree dishes to sausage to burgers, plus an array of smaller snack choices if you'd prefer small plates to share. I had the spicy adouille sausage on a pretzel bun with sauerkraut and house relish. YUM! A bit messy, but that's expected. You have a fork and knife if you prefer. I got a side of the duck fries that were hearty and delicious and dipped them in a cheese dip (OK, but tasted like warmed Velveeta! Blah.) Various mustards in small cups were brought too. They use paper trays to deliver the food and plastic cups for water, and the paper straw for my iced tea seemed to disintegrate while drinking. Water is brought in large Vodka pitchers. I was alright with all, except the straw (yes, I know about the current regs.) and the plastic cup. Service was excellent, professional and very friendly. This is a review regarding a particular negative recent experience I had at this bar, not a reflection on the bar itself. As a responsible patron of various bars and clubs around town, I have had my fair share of experiences with bouncers, but none quite as infuriating as the encounter I had with a particular bouncer at LowBrau last weekend. My friends and I were excited to check out this popular spot, going out celebrating one of our friend's birthdays. and we arrived to find a line forming outside. After a short wait, we reached the front of the line, where we were greeted by the bouncer and the cashier taking money for covers. Things took a sour turn from there. Despite the fact that we were all dressed nicely and fully coherent, the bouncer took one look at my friend and declared that she was "intoxicated" and would not be allowed in. We were all taken aback, as my friend had only had a few drinks earlier in the evening and was clearly not intoxicated in any way. We attempted to reason with the bouncer and explain that my friend was not, in fact, drunk, but he refused to listen and became increasingly hostile. He had already made up his mind and had no intention of letting us in. He would not consider any argument at all. He made it clear to us, and even the cashier, his judgment was not to be questioned. Not only was this incredibly frustrating and insulting, it was also completely unfounded. My friend had done nothing to warrant being denied entry, and we were all left feeling angry and disappointed by the bouncer's behavior. It's unfortunate that such a great evening was ruined by one person's misguided judgment. We took our money back (which would've been a complete waste of $15 each) and left. In conclusion, I would strongly advise others to steer clear of this particular bouncer and to be wary of any other establishments that employ similarly unprofessional and discriminatory practices. It's simply not worth the hassle and disrespect. read more

My friend and I were biking up J st on Sunday, and we saw that there was some kind of block party on the block Low Brau is located. We were not interested in the block party, but we decided to have a beer at Low Brau before we moved on to the next spot. We rode our bikes straight up to the front of the bar, locked them up and then proceeded to walk straight up to the bar. My friend was lagging behind, and a security guard approached him and asked for his wrist band. He told her we were just there for a beer, so she instructed him to go ahead and get your beer, but you'll have to get a wrist band after that. Perfectly reasonable We went up to the bar, ordered two beers, dropped down a credit card and began to sip the beverages that we paid for. Not more than 5 minutes passed by when the bar manager approached us and aggressively demanded to see our badges. Of course, that was very confusing as one might imagine. We asked her what she was talking about, and she then told us that her security staff said that we told them that we were with ABC. We told her that we did no such thing, chalking it up to a miscommunication on their part. However, she then told us that since we didn't have wrist bands, we would have to leave. Very aggressive, but I get it. They had a special event and they were charging for it. We told her that we would finish our paid for beverages and leave, thinking that would be a viable solution to a non-problem. 60 seconds later, a very aggressive security guard rushed up to us and demanded that we leave in about the most condescending manner possible, and I quote "time for you guys to go", insinuating that we were causing turmoil and needed to be immediately removed. Of course, I told him that I would go when I finished the beverage that I paid for and my buddy was able to close out his tab. As my friend paid his tab, he was accompanied by another security guard who asked him, "what's happening here? I got a call over the radio that there was a big fight and I needed to get down here right away", further proving that the confrontation was blown out of the water between the staff and the overly aggressive security guard that threatened to "physically remove me" from the premises if I didn't leave immediately. At one point we requested SAC PD, as we felt that we were being physically intimidated, and after explaining the situation, we got on our bikes and rolled off. Unfortunately, I think that this is more of a reflection of event security than Low Brau itself, but the staff manager made no attempt to try to understand the situation before rudely telling us that we had to abandon our beverages and leave. Now, the way this works 364 days out of the year is, you go to an establishment like that, walk up to the bar and enjoy your beverage, which is exactly what we did. I don't think the burden should lay on the customer to figure out how their special event works, when you have no intention of participating in it and you just want to patronize the establishment the way you would any other day of the year. So go ahead and go into Low Brau and buy a beer. Just make sure you don't do what they don't want you to do even if you don't know what that thing is! read more

I really love the food here. I haven't had anything that wasn't delicious. All day happy hour on Tuesday is awesome with lots of choices. The beers on tap are top notch and served cold. The corn dogs and duck fat fries are served hot and are delicious. I come from a German family and wursts are a big deal. My grandmother used to order her sausages from Wisconsin because she couldn't get good enough ones here in Sacramento. So I know my wursts. The Polish dog was the best Polish dog I've had in memory. I wish grandma Kraft was alive because she would love this place! Shout out to the staff back of house and front. You're rocking it! You always make me feel welcome and your service is excellent. An average and over priced place to eat in Sacramento. I was very unimpressed with this nice looking spot. Due to Covid, they have closed off a section of the street for guests to comfortable dine outside. This was a nice treat as it was nice and relaxing. The food was a miss in terms of satisfaction. The burger on the pretzel bread was stale and the fries tasted old as if they were sitting under a heat lamp for some time. We ordered a side of avocado for our baby, and let me tell you, it was a rip off for the 3 dollar charge. The avocado was old and heavily bruised. Drinks were mediocre. Man.. I really wanted to like this place. Sadly, I've been non-stop throwing up since eating here a few hours ago and I know exactly why. A friend took me here for "good vegan food" and tasty drinks. When we came in, I was so excited to see a vegan menu (even though it's quite small)! As it was my first time here, I chatted with the bartender who made recommendations on the best vegan options. My friend and I ordered the veggie sausages and the vegan fries. Drinks and food came out super quick and we sat down to eat. I saw that the fries had what looked like nacho cheese on them, but I didn't question it because I thought it may just be vegan cheese. I saw the hot dog didn't come with the toppings we requested but I wasn't going to be too picky about it. I took one bite of the pretzel hot dog and immediately realized I was eating meat. This is BEYOND disappointing as I haven't eaten meat in 10+ years and even that one bite made me SO incredibly sick. I was now convinced that our entire order wasn't vegan and brought that to the attention of the bartender/waitress who brought us our food. I'll be honest, the bartender did replace our food and gave me a drink on the house. HOWEVER, that doesn't change the fact that these are things to be taken SO incredibly seriously, as people can get really sick. Not everyone is vegan by choice, some people can't handle meat/dairy, and I felt as though this was very brushed off as a little mix-up. She kept saying "oh it's no worries. I'll remake your order, we did mess it up." But I just don't see how you can make a huge mistake like that. Our vegan replacement hot dog came out and it was the wrong order.. AGAIN. It wasn't the hot dog "flavor" we ordered and it didn't come with any of the complementary toppings. At this point we just left. TLDR; I wouldn't come here again. I love going to LowBrau due to the great vibes and good DJs they bring in. Recently there has been this very rude security guard who is constantly yelling at people and escalating situations. I recently found out her name is Angel and several of my friends have had bad interactions with her as well. No one I have run into has anything nice to say about an interaction they have had with her. Several other of the workers have great attitudes and are able to do their jobs without having to be so harsh. It is a shame that LowBrau is being represented by such a rude individual. read more

Still 4-stars- but updated brunch review. During quarantine they have brunch until 2 pm. They offer a breakfast burrito(vegan option available), sandwich or burger. I ordered the breakfast sandwich with egg, bacon, arugula and cheese. It was really yummy! But two bites in I realized they forgot my bacon entirely. They were kind and gave me three slices on the side, but it was so undercooked it was nearly raw. It's fun to visit here during the farmers market on the weekend! I recently had a terrible experience with LowBrau, which has always been such a fun spot. I was reviewing my credit card statement and noticed two charges from LowBrau two days in a row (about $80 and $70). I have not been to LowBrau for over a month so I was kind of surprised to see these charges. I called my credit card company to dispute the charges and they noted that the card was charged as "Card on File". Apparently LowBrau kept my card number/info on file and just decided to randomly charge me two days in a row???? This is the shadiest behavior. If you decide to go to LowBrau, pay with cash so they cannot keep your credit card info and charge you at a later date. read more

Tips are automatically added to every check without your consent. Most people do not realize the added gratuity because they are not given a paper receipt with their drink purchase. The servers do not tell you about the forced gratuity before they ask you for another tip on their payment machine; this is incredibly dishonest and I do not trust anyone that works here. There are so many upstanding bars in town that it is unnecessary to give this dishonest business or their dishonest bartenders your money. read more
