My husband and I were visiting Old Sacramento on Saturday and decided to check out Bear & Crown for the first time. The inside was decent sized with plenty of tables and booths - I loved seeing the interior decorated like a true London pub. The old school phonebooth was a nice touch too! We ordered the Kids Grilled Cheese and Fries, Fish and Chips, Pub House Pretzel, Scotch Eggs and the Best Date Ever. I also ordered a Gin Fizz which was a special drink they had for Mardi Gras. Everything was so good! My husband loved his Fish and Chips, the kids devoured their Grilled Cheese Sandwiches and I ate every single one of those Scotch Eggs and bacon wrapped dates. Everything was cooked well and seasoned perfectly. They also had a Mardi Gras menu available that included special drinks plus Gumbo and Shrimp and Grits. Service was spot on - he gave great recommendations and was super friendly. Our water glasses were never empty! They also offer a gift shop with lots of British items and snacks! Overall, we are big fans of Bear & Crown now! There were so many items on the menu that sounded great - we will definitely be back next time we are in Old Sac! Check them out!

I was seriously craving Shepherd Pie and though they didn't have it the barkeep was able to direct me to a suitable choice, their Cottage Pie. For $17 in a piping hot small cast iron serving dish it hot the spot. It's a nicely seasoned mix of ground beef, onions, peas and carrots in a rich brown gravy topped with whipped Duchess Potatoes. It was very flavorful and worth the charge IMO. They also offer at least a dozen beers including the larger well known brands and some local flavors. I have visited this pub in the past and it never disappoints. I will return next time travels being me to Sacramento.

Since parking's always a challenge for us when in Old Sac, we decided to park in the lot by L St, behind The Firehouse Restaurant. It was $6 for 2 hours which wasn't too bad. We were in this part of the Capital City for Dine Downtown 2026. We checked in earlier than our dinner reservation that Saturday and got sat in a spacious booth. It's beautiful inside with oversized seating booths, couches & ottomans, pool tables, and a full service bar. While the outside had more seating, it was too chilly for a comfortable dinner. Being a British pub, they are adorned with decor reminiscent of London. They also have a souvenir shop in the adjacent connected stall. Our drinks were the non-alcoholic Modest Mule and a glass of 20 Acres Cabernet Sauvignon. Appetizers were the Scotch Egg and Tomato Bisque (soup of the day). Entrees were Almond Crusted Brook Trout and Bangers & Mash (sausage and mashed potatoes) Desserts were Seasonal Bread Pudding and Sticky Toffee Pudding. For $49/person, this wasn't a bad deal. The fish and desserts lacked in flavor though. This is a good British pub in Old Sac with a great environment for watching a game while having a meal or a drink. Staff was nice and the restrooms were clean.

Came here on a Saturday dinner for Dine Downtown. Made a reservation on Open Table and I definitely recommend doing so as weekend can be busy. I heard 1 couple without reservation was told that the wait time was about 1 hour. Bear & Crown is located within the Old Sac area by 22nd street. On a Saturday night, it was not so hard to find parking. $3 per 1 hour for parking in one of the garages, max of $15 per day. This restaurant space wise is huge with a bar area, tables and booths. Good for groups. The Dine Downtown Menu is as follows: Appetizers * Scotch Egg - 7-minute egg wrapped in house-made sausage and bread crumbs served with house made curry mayo (yummy!) * Soup of the Day - Tomato bisque (yummy too) Entree * Bangers & Mash - two english-style sausages, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, onion gravy & buttered peas - this was good as well *Almond crusted Brook Trout served with basmati rice, lemon-tarragon butter, lemon broccolini - the fish was good but could need a little bit of seasoning and sauce Dessert *Sticky Toffee Pudding served with vanilla -bean ice cream and house made caramel sauce *Seasonal Bread Pudding served with house made caramel sauce Drinks * hubby got a cabernet *I got the modest mule (non alcoholic option) Me and hubby got 1 of each. The Dine Downtown pricing is $45/person for a 3 course meal. This is a worth it deal. Food here in Bear & Crown was good and serving was huge we had to take home the bread pudding and half of the trout. January 2026

Stopped in on a Friday afternoon for a drink and a snack. It was dark and empty in the restaurant except for the bar, and we sat at the bar. We ordered a couple cocktails from the list, they were watery and overpriced ($17) very disappointing. The scotch eggs were good, but when it says 7 minute egg on the menu, I would not expect the yolk to come out hard boiled. The bartender was friendly and they had games on the many TVs. Overall it's not a place I'd return to with all the other options around.

Bear & Crown is a fantastic spot in Old Sacramento for true "stick-to-your-ribs" comfort food. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, and the restaurant itself is quite spacious--perfect for accommodating larger parties. We visited on a Tuesday night, and it was pleasantly slow, which made for excellent service. Weekends tend to be much busier, so this was the perfect time to go. On a previous visit, I ordered the Steak and Frites, which was very good. This time, I went with a classic: Bangers and garlic mash with peas--and absolutely loved it. The two bangers had just the right amount of char and were full of flavor. The mash and peas were delicious, and I happily cleaned my plate. My friend ordered the Cottage Pie, which leaned slightly sweet but was mostly savory and entirely delicious. Fair warning: it comes out very hot! I highly recommend Bear & Crown if you find yourself in the Old Sacramento area. General Note: If you're visiting over the Christmas holiday weekend, parking can be difficult due to the Christmas show. Consider Uber or Lyft, or allow extra time to find parking.

First time at Bear & Crown and we were really impressed. The service was great ~ friendly, attentive, and our server had solid menu suggestions. Our food came out warm and exactly as ordered for our group of four. Cocktails well done! The inside has a really warm, clever, inviting vibe that makes you want to stay a while. We'd love to come back in warmer weather and sit outside because the patio looked perfect for a relaxed meal. Overall, excellent food, great people, and an easy place to want to return to. Recommend!

We were at an event at the Crocker Art Museum and this British Pub came up as a local recommendation. I thought we'd need a reservation for Friday night and we did make one, but it was pretty open when we got there. It is a really big spot and was a bit more full when we left, so perhaps it is more of a late night spot. James was our server and he was really nice and helpful. My husband is a fish and chips snob and couldn't decide between the fish and chips and chicken tikka marsala, so James offered a piece of fish on the side. That was a great way to try the fish without committing, and it was cooked as he likes it - crispy and fresh without too much thick breading. The chicken marsala was generous and delicious, just like a British Pub should be. I had the butternut squash soup and a farro salad. They were both yummy and filling and I wound up taking some salad home. I loved my Pip Pip cocktail with Pimms, my favorite English beverage. The decor is nice and it's clean with tons of space. We would definitely return and try the whole fish and chips next time.

I can't believe it took me so long to stop into Bear & Crown! I've been wanting to go since they first opened and we finally went for Happy Hour/Dinner. First off, it is WAY BIGGER than I thought it would be. They have a few seats right out front, and inside they have seating at the bar with some high top four seaters as well as booths and tables around the restaurant, plus some comfy seats around the TV up front. Plus, there's a huge outdoor area that is beautiful. We made it for Happy Hour so we ended up ordering a couple beers along with their Happy Hour Scotch Eggs ($6/egg), the Beer-Battered Banger Bites ($7), plus the fried pickles ($12) off the regular appetizer menu. We loved how all the sauces were made in house, the curry aioli with the Scotch eggs was delicious. They were our first every Scotch eggs so while we don't have anything to compare them to they were delicious and the yolk was nice and jammy. The fried pickles were house pickles, very thinly sliced into chips and were crunchy and flavorful. The house made ranch with the pickles was the perfect pairing. The Beer-Battered Banger Bites were indulgent but super flavorful- definitely something we would order again. For dinner we ordered the Cast Iron Seared Salmon ($28) and the Cottage Pie ($17). I'm embarrassed to say I didn't realize you could choose the temperature on your fish- goes to show how often I'm ordering salmon. Our server suggested medium well and it came out flaky, moist and super flavorful. It was served over dill rice with a Scotch cream sauce and capers. The full dish was filling and really delicious. The Cottage Pie was much more homey, filling and definitely a comfort dish. It has ground beef, in a tomato onion gravy with peas, carrots, and was topped with duchess potatoes. All the flavors went so well together. Our server, James, was amazing. Super nice and conversational, he gave us some great suggestions from the menu and made sure my water was filled checked in to see if we needed refills on our beers. Check out their social media for events and specials. I know we'll be back soon!

Found this place completely by accident. We were in old Sac waiting for a venue to start and wanted appetizers. We walked up 2nd street and saw that this was a British pub so we decided to just try it. The pub was so pretty inside. There's a red phone booth exactly like the ones found in London. A couple of lounge seating areas that reminded me of a ski lodge or a room from a bed and breakfast. And the bar sits right there so ordering drinks and getting food was so easy. We got the Trout Pate, Scotch Eggs, and Bacon wrapped dates along with a pumpkin spiced cocktail and red ale on draft. The food and drinks were so good. The only complaint was we got really stale bread for the pate, but everything else was delicious. 5/5. From the pictures you can see how good the food was and the prices were reasonable. The service was impeccable. We were a big group of 6 and the staff was attentive and patient while being extremely professional. It was a really nice experience. We want to go back asap so maybe next weekend :)

Comfortable setting The room is very large and accommodating. The British-style fare is a bit out of place with the Old Sacramento area but tasty. The Fried Pickles were particularly good. The service was helpful and attentive.

We had an amazing dinner. The Chicken Tikka Masala and the Salmon in addition to the Pip Pip Punch and Pinot Noir were amazing. Maggie was a very attentive server, made us feel at home, and provided great advice. I did tell her we'd be back and I meant it. Catch you on the 5th of every month at about 8:15 at the same booth.

Stopped for a quick lunch while sightseeing. Got the Bacon wrapped dates appetizer and it was BETTER than expected, which is saying a lot since I thought it would be good. Just split a chicken wrap, which was good and big enough to satisfy both of us!!

The fries were actually pretty good, an above average standard French fry with salt. The burger however was phenomenal. There was an amazing crust on the outside reminiscent of a backyard bbq. There was ample bacon, lettuce, cheese and sauce to make it a balanced bite. The bun was high end brioche style, they really went all out on quality of ingredients. When we first walked up, the place was super busy with the outdoor seating area and queue full. There were still members of our group that were on their way, so we didn't mind waiting in line. They had kids menus available to look at, and even thought the stack for regular menus was out, some people in line were kind enough to hand us theirs when they were done. I stared at the menu the whole time I was in line. I think I was just hungry and the strong barbecue smell in the restaurant was making me crave everything. I eventually landed on a barbecue burger and decided to sub the fries with collard greens to be somewhat "healthy," and also because my husband was getting fries. What's his is mine. Ordering at the register was quick. They had a nonalcoholic frozen drink option that I was tempted to get since I don't drink. I'd recommend giving it a try if you don't mind parting with $10. I think it was $2 extra dollars to get a similar drink with alcohol too. Also, there is a separate line for ordering beer, so if you have a decent-sized group like we did, maybe consider splitting up to grab a table and join the beer line. We lucked out with one of the longer tables next to the bathrooms. Side note: they have hand-washing stations separate from the area with the toilets, so super clutch if you just need to clean up before you start touching all your food. Our orders seemed to come out as they were ready, and overall maybe 15-20 minutes, which is decent considering how packed the place was. My burger was delicious. Meat was on the medium-well side, but I don't mind a little more cook as long as it's still juicy, which was the case. Cheese was melted, onion rings were crisp, bun wasn't soggy, and there was a generous bed of jalapeños under the patty. It wasn't overly spicy or anything, but it did provide a nice noticeable difference in texture. The collard greens, I would say right now, are pretty high on my list of collard greens I've had in my life, and I order them if I ever see them on any menu since it's not often I find them. It was a decent amount, but I wished there was double once I was done. As we were finishing our food, some nice staff members were quick to come clean up our dishes. We were so satisfied with our meal and drinks that we almost forgot we needed to catch an escape room!

Plenty of seating, spacious, good vibes, and they had Premier League on their massive TV. Beer was superb, kind of hard to review because I just love beer, man. We started with the shishito peppers, which were great and came with a really memorable miso aioli that was very addictive with a hint of lemon. We also got the "Fun Guy" pizza to share and made the mistake of removing the goat cheese, which I think hurt it. The crust was excellent and the toppings were fresh, but it felt like it was missing that salty, funky balance the goat cheese would've added. Still very good, but that one's on me. I'd definitely get it as intended next time. One of my favorite breweries, especially with so many having closed over the past few years. Cheers to them.

Went back for another lunch and it didn't disappoint. Yes, this place can be confusing because…read morethere are no servers and you have to order at the bar. I've watched many people seat themselves at tables and leave 10 minutes later because no one asked them what they wanted. Yes, the decor is stuck in the 90's, but I actually like it. The double smash burger I had was excellent. The bun they use is awesome and they charred the patty perfectly. It tasted way better than Fleming's Prime Steakhouse burger I had last week, that's for sure. The thick steak-cut fries are awesome, too. Over salted but nothing a cold beer can't cut through. Highly recommend their smash burger.

If it wasn't for this "mission," there's a good chance I wouldn't have wandered in. I LOVE Sutter Street, but honestly I don't live nearby and don't have many reasons to come here. That said, I'm thankful for the mission and glad I dropped by. It's a super cute place and the bartender had a nice relaxed chill vibe to her. This is where I'd normally drop her name and give her kudos - but I didn't get her name. I thought her name would be on the receipt, but it wasn't! I assume her name isn't "Shift Night N" anyway, which would be weird - but that's what is listed for "server". Anyway... the burger... I liked it. I liked it a lot. I was not asked how I wanted it cooked (not expected or demanded by me) - but an observation that I toss in for comparison purposes. It was cooked to a solid medium, which is fine with me. Caramelized onions were standard - nice - but the tomato and lettuce were listed as 'optional' - and the bartender (Shift Night N) asked me if I wanted them. I opted in. The bun was above average - definitely a notch above the typical mass-produced buns often used elsewhere. I opted for sweet potato fries. They had good flavor. Personal preference-wise... I would have liked them to be cooked a smidge more. If/when I come back, I'll probably ask them to be crispy-er. Overall, thumbs up! I wouldn't hesitate to come back and try other things on the menu. #burgers

Tons of people 1 bartender trying to hold it down and long wait time. You would think they would be prepared for a day like that. The beer is tinted with green food coloring. We got 1 beer and some fish and chips. The place is small so we had to go downstairs. Once there- there was a sewer smell coming from the back end of the room it was disgusting. We had to move. The food arrived after a long time and asking the staff when the food would be ready and it was also pretty bad. Stale oil taste and burnt browned fish. We left after that and don't plan to be back. Don't even get me started on the bathroom it was dirty, sticky and lewd comments written every where.

Not to mention, the historic scenery in the area. The building itself is nice and has wooden floors outside. The inside is dark and inviting. They have a couple of arcade games that you can play to kill time. The staff is friendly and the bartenders feel like they can be your best mate when they aren't busy. The music that plays is decently loud but they had some bangers on when I came. I'd say the prices for the drinks are average. Bottom line/TLDR: one of the best bars in Old Sac.
