After getting a lash lift from Jane, I came home and got this response from my boyfriend: "Have you been trying a new mascara?" I told him "no, there are my real lashes without any makeup." He didn't believe me. It was by far the best compliment I've received on my lashes, and he noticed them within a few minutes! The process was simple and surprisingly quick. You lay on a reclined chair, and Jane puts a warm blanket on you. She cleans your lashes, sticks them to a pad, and puts the solution on. I recommend having a podcast or music set up beforehand because it happens pretty quickly. You slip on the earphones and 30 mins later the process is done. Afterwards, beautifully-curled eyelashes. I just got them done on Friday, so I'll update how long they last. But so far, so good. I waited 24 hours before washing my face and 48 hours before using any oils or creams. Ann and Jane do great work here. I had a very good experience with Ann who did my lash extensions a few months ago. It was my first time doing lash extensions since moving back from New York a year ago, and I'm glad that my first experience in SF was with these two ladies. However, from my experience, I realized the importance of finding a lash technician who has similar fundamental beliefs about lash extensions as I do and who can take my idea of the 'perfect' lash extensions and make it a reality. For me, lash extensions should accentuate my natural features and make me a better, prettier version of me. My ideal extensions would look natural enough to fool a stranger (someone who has never seen my unextended lashes) into thinking they were my own. Speaking to Ann - who did both my lash extensions (and then my removal), my understanding of her beliefs is that lash extensions should look obvious and bold enough to not be one's own. This obviously clashed with what I was looking for. While the particular style here did not work for me, I would highly recommend Ann and Jane for those who want a bolder look or have long/thick enough lashes for the lash lifts. The process took about an hour, I didn't realize when she was starting and didn't put in my earphones to start listening to the podcast I had planned and once she had started it was too late. However she had music playing and I almost fell asleep! I love getting my eyelashes lifted. I do it every couple of months. It last typically 3 weeks like this, then it does two weeks of them still looking ok. I have long curly lashes to begin with, but this gives them a boost, like getting the gold star in Mario Cart. I was searching for something that would give my own a boost without the maintenance of extensions. Ann has done them every time I come in and they come out great! I will say that the first time I went in, the smell of the products didn't bother me, but the second time it was super strong to me. It's a little uncomfortable and takes a while, so plan to listen to a podcast or music. They do back-to-back appointments which can feel a little impersonal, but Ann remembered me right away the second time I came in. The location is also harder to get to on public transport, so just keep that in mind. I budget in Uber rides. Overall, I love coming here. The studio is upstairs from a gym and its nice and quiet and peaceful up there. I have long lashes with zero curl to them and have tried lash extensions several times but don't really care for them, so perming was the perfect option for me. Alright, so, the process: basically you lay on the bed and a blankey is laid over you so you stay warm. Jane explained what she was going to be doing to my lashes (placing a mold, applying perm chemicals, and the possible smell - though I didn't notice one). My friend said it stung her a little but I didn't have that experience. It was painless and relaxing. The process takes about an hour, so I recommend bringing an iPod so you can listen to music or podcasts or whatever. You can't open your eyes during the hour so choose what you listen to wisely. I am over the moon with the result. I got my lashes permed on May 21st and, as a blonde who never dreamed of going out in public without makeup, went to lunch and to meet friends after and felt totally confident and beautiful. Today, June 6th, they are still looking as good as they did right after I got them done. But I feel like I need to write about my experience for the sake of warning. Background: I've had MANY lash lifts over the past 4 or 5 years. Having lived in the UK (they're very popular there), I got to have multiple lash lifts and the results were always amazing. So, believe you me. I KNOW what a lift is supposed to look like. Getting the treatment: I can't say anything negative about about the customer service because she was lovely and welcoming. I will say, however, that I asked on multiple occasions if she does a TRUE lash lift or if I'm gonna end up with super curly unruly lashes like the ones you get from a perm. She assured me it was a proper lash lift. I even expressed that I had one bad experience before somewhere else and it took me a while to get my lashes back to healthy state so I didn't want a repeat! She continued to assure me it's a proper lash lift. She started the process and the first thing that should've been a warning sign for me was that the solution was as STINKY as can be. Having had this procedure done hundreds of times before, I should have known the smell of the solution was not right. If it's super stinky, it's definitely a perm. Anyway, I thought to myself, I'll just let her keep going and see what happens because I didn't want to be an untrustworthy annoying client. Some time passes by, she cleans the lashes etc etc and tells me to open my eyes and hand me a mirror. And I gotta say, they looked beautiful and I didn't suspect a thing. I paid and went on about my day. AFTER: Obviously, I knew the aftercare rules and followed them to the T. However, that SAME day, I noticed the tips of my lashes were starting to curl on themselves. I thought, ok don't panic. Wait it out for 48 hours. So I wait, and 48 hours later, I know for a fact that what I got was a perm. My lashes were insanely curly, it was ridiculous. I was very disappointed but I also had to travel so there was no way I could go back and ask for a refund or ask for her to fix it. Fast forward to now a couple of weeks later, I am now in Europe for work. And my lashes are curly, kinky, and falling off. I'm attaching a photo of the selection of lashes that fall off on the daily so you can see just how bad it is. I basically collected 2 days worth of fallen lashes so I can take that photo. I've been here for a gel mani and a lash lift. It appears as though this is going to become my new go to because they're GREAT!!! Prices are very fair, the work is really really good and plus Jane + her mother are so sweet!!! Both times I have been, Jane's mother worked on me. What I really appreciated about this was the fact that Jane actually looked at my lashes and assessed if it would even be a beneficial treatment for me. I've always told people I don't have lashes, they never stay curled, they're short and stick straight. HOWEVER! Getting a lash lift was a game changer! I DO have lashes, and they're actually longer than I thought. The process itself took about an hour. Jane explained all the steps to me. I laid down , closed my eyes and pretty much took a nap. The process took about an hour and it is said to last for about 2 months. This review is for lash extensions by Cindy. The scheduling was super easy and the customer service was superb. My usual lash tech got the flu and I needed a last minute fill. This salon is great for accommodating fills from other lash techs. However, I've been getting my lashes done for years and I've gone to a couple different techs. When Cindy was done, my lashes looked gorgeous and full but my eyes were burning. I didn't think much because maybe she was using a glue that I wasn't used to. The first few days were great, I had little fall out and the lashes look perfect. It was all downhill from there. As my lashes grew, my eyes were getting increasingly irritated. Finally I decided to take a closer look and some of the single extensions were glued to the base of multiple lashes. No wonder my eyelashes were irritated! There were also visible chunks of glue. It was so irritating that I removed the lashes myself. I couldn't even wait to book an appointment to have them removed. As I removed them, I noticed that the individual lashes (I get classic lashes) were still stuck together so there were 2-3 lash extensions glued to 2-3 of my natural lashes. Decided why not pamper myself after a crazy weekend (Super Bowl weekend!). I walked in intending to just get a mani... but left with a gel mani, eyebrow wax, and eyelash perm! Let me preface this review by saying I'm not one to usually indulge in aesthetic modifications that last a few weeks or months (fake nails, hair extensions, fake lashes etc.) BUT when my friend mentioned she was going to get her lashes permed, I was quite curious and decided to join her to try it out. We booked our appointment seamlessly by emailing Jane directly. She responded really quickly and she was able to accommodate both of us at the same time. Once we arrived, friend and I went to the back of the room and up the stairs. There's a small, cute little studio up there which is where lash magic happens! There are three single size beds. Jane will instruct you about which one to lay on when it's your turn. Get comfy, you'll be there for about an hour. Friend and I got our lashes done on the beds that were kitty-corner to one another. The best part about this was that we got to catch up the entire time! If you don't bring a friend, bring headphones because you'll likely be listening to other girls that booked the same appointment like we did and exchange outrageous stories, gab about life, CrossFit, nutrition, paleo, and laugh a ton. Anyways, back to the lashes. Jane does an excellent job and lash perms last about six weeks! Once she was done my lashes were super curly. Initially they were toooo curly for my liking, putting on liquid eyeliner was a challenge; but once they "fell" about a week later they are just perfect. Pro tip: Bring cash! I came upon Love Cheni a bit unintentionally, having had a regular lash person in Palo Alto for years but needed a lash perm desperately at the last minute. I found Love Cheni on Yelp and was able to make a reservation online (+1) and then immediately received a calendar invite for the appointment (+3). I never went back to my former lash perm salon after seeing Jane. She is SO sweet (+2), very professional, and you get a discount for paying in cash (+1). And the lashes turn out supremely every time - no crooked lashes or that one stray lash that ends up turned the wrong way. Her attention to detail is on point. I've now been to Love Cheni 3 times and every time I have either been late (you should def budget extra time for parking) or had to reschedule. Every single time, Jane has been incredibly understanding and sweet. When I had to reschedule bc of a funeral, she sent a kind note with condolences and rescheduled me right away, and even took me 30 minutes after their normal closing time. The bad: Now I'm officially a lash lift addict! Okay jokes aside, this was my first lash lift and I'm so in love! Jane is so detail oriented and amazing: I asked her if I can have more of a "cat eye" flair. After assessing my lashes, she explained that she'll lift the inner lashes higher to open my eyes more and flair out the outer lashes. I was so pleasantly at the amount of time she spent getting my lashes into the perfect position prior to applying to the perm. She was very thorough and detail oriented throughout the entire process. I chose to and the lash lift did NOT hurt my skin at all! Plus my thin/short asian lashes were so lifted- and STAYED LIFTED! I got the lift on 11/11 and more than a month later they are still great! I expect I'll need a touch up in another month. (For all the first timers out there- lash lift will lift the lashes and do not add volume.) Cindy made the entire waxing process painless! My brows are super clean and well shaped. She made me feel comfortable enough to tell her what I had in mind and gave me the result that I wanted. What more could I ask for? I've been getting my lashes permed by Jane, and I've been super happy with them! She's really sweet, and even redid my lashes when it didn't come out with as much curl as it had previously. I love how easy it is to book appointments online, and that you get a discount for paying in cash. In case you didn't know, a lash lift is essentially a lash perm, but curled at the exact spot that will enhance the volume and length of your natural lashes. Seriously, it makes my lashes look like falsies without the hassle of dealing with glue. The lash lift lasts about 8 weeks-- with weeks 2-5 being the best. So if you're planning to go on a vacation or have a special event coming up, I would definitely plan accordingly. Since Love Cheni is also a nail salon, you can enjoy a mani/pedi while getting your lashes done. Two birds with one hour! Got a lash perm here a few weeks ago. Was an easy process to book and get an appointment, there was plenty of metered street parking. The salon is quite mid sized- not super tiny but not huge- but the majority of the space was taken up by pedicure chairs. Strange because most of their reviews have to do with lash perming, so they certainly do many of them. There are 2 long seats that are uncomfortably close to one another. They can do 2 lash perms at a time, but the space is so small that I, as a relatively petite 5'0 person can barely fit in between the space and nearly bumped the poor woman sitting next to me getting her own perm. I'm no stranger to lash perming- I've been doing it for over a year at a salon in south SF. It costs $38 there and you get a private room. There are 2 tables there too but those are real massage tables and you aren't just out in the open. That being said, the results I got at Cheni was consistent with the results I get at my usual salon, albeit a bit more expensive at $60. I purposely waited 3 weeks to share my thoughts to see how the lashes would hold and grow out. They did not grow out well. The lashes on the outer corners of my eyes have the telltale "check mark" look- not a curl- and aren't holding up like the lashes in the center of my eye are, which gives a distinctly strange look. I also noted that the lashes on the inner corner of my eye were curled into my eyeball, which meant some itching and irritation until I finally rubbed so hard and pulled them out (ouch). I don't have either of these problems at my other salon- maybe once or twice over 20 some odd sessions with that salon- and it was never this bad. I will clarify that I don't use any oil based cleansers or anything like that (you're not supposed to). So, that wasn't the problem. Since this place is more expensive than my other salon, is less comfortable/relaxing, and gives me a worse result, I don't think I'll come back. I will note that they said the standard price for a lash perm is $90 and their $60 price is only temporary. I understand that rent is expensive in SF but that is price pretty laughable in my opinion if they can't even have a separate room for lash perms, even putting the quality of the perm itself aside. A lot of these reviewers are first timer lash permers- yes, the results at first are really good- but the telltale sign of a good lash permer is how the perm lasts and grows out. You can get a better, more salon-like job elsewhere at a lower price, but if this place works for you then go for it! read more

First can I say my review won't even do justice for how great Cheni is. Seriously. If you are hesitating between this place and any other lash lift/extension salons, go on their website and book yourself an appointment. As soon as I walked in, Cheni greeted me sooo sweetly. She addressed my concerns I had from the previous salon I went to. They lifted my lashes too much and it was hitting the hood of my eyes. It was so crazy it got tangeled a few days later.... and it just looked messy. Cheni basically gave me a consulting before starting telling me exactly what she would be doing. She even tucks you in with the softest blanket!!! (How can you say no to this) Get you I have pretty short lashes (considered long for asians though) with hooded eyes so it was probably 10x harder to do a lash lift on my eye than any one else's. One thing I observed that made her so much better than other salons was the fact that she was SO THOROUGH and really perfected each lash. I felt her really making sure and taking her time. I was very very impressed. 5 star all around, excellent service. Worth every single $ I paid. Will definitely come again. do not hesitate to come here you'll leave happier than you expect to!!!!
