    Unprofessional Management, Unresolved Maintenance, and Unfair Treatment…read more I do not recommend renting here due to poor management, ongoing maintenance problems, and unfair treatment toward tenants. From the first night, both AC units in my apartment failed to cool the unit, leaving it extremely hot and uncomfortable. Despite multiple work orders and follow-ups, this issue was never fixed properly. The unit also had serious plumbing issues -- the shower would fill with water, and the drains and toilets constantly made loud noises. Noise was another daily problem. Between the stomping from upstairs neighbors, trains nearby, and thin walls, resting was nearly impossible. I was also never provided a parking space, forcing me to buy temporary or yearly parking permits just to park near my own apartment. During one of the maintenance attempts to "fix" the AC, workers came in and tore open parts of the ceiling, leaving insulation and dust everywhere. This happened while I was pregnant, creating a stressful and unsafe environment inside my own home. Management showed no concern for my well-being or the condition of the unit afterward. After enduring all of this, I moved out early. Management agreed to waive the lease termination fee because of the ongoing habitability issues, yet they are now trying to keep my entire security deposit, which is not legal under California Civil Code §1950.5. A waived termination fee does not justify withholding a deposit. To make things worse, they relisted the same apartment right after I moved out -- at a lower rent than what I was paying, even though they never offered to reduce my rent despite all the problems I experienced. I have detailed documentation and photos of the unit's condition, including the ceiling holes from the AC work. Tenants deserve honesty, safety, and fair treatment -- none of which I received here. Wish I can give 0 stars! Even 1 is to much for this unprofessional scamming company!

In short, I found the management lacked substantial communication and respect for the tenants, renting us overpriced old apartments. Ultimately, the reason I had to move out was the unwillingness and inability of SGV to address a building-wide pest problem that lasted nearly a full year, all while still continuing to raise my rent each year (during COVID!). My time in this apartment started off rather well, dealing with this saintly salesman named Barry, who I believe is no longer employed at SGV. Brian Abernathy was my primary contact in management. To their credit, I appreciated SGV's online portal for enabling a tenant to pay rent electronically, and to be able to submit service requests. And sometimes, these service requests were dealt with in short order, like replacing a broken washing machine within a week or two. However, my negative experiences with SGV outweighed the positive ones. Looking at some of the other negative reviews on this site, I experienced similar patterns to what they describe: extreme construction noise at all hours without warning when we're at home working during a pandemic; painting a neighboring unit and then sealing it up so the paint fumes vent into your own apartment overnight which leads to you being sick and is a health-code violation. When I'd complain about these things to Brian, he'd either not respond or just say "Oops, I didn't know the workers were doing that." or some other such nonsense. Ultimately, I just have no confidence that SGV has its tenants best interests in mind when making decisions, and who wants a management company like that? But the straw that broke the camel's back was this fly infestation that started in the summer of 2020. There were flies all over the place in all the units in the building. It was pretty disgusting. Management brought a handy-man by to dump some anti-bug stuff in our sinks, to no avail. This went on for months. Management continued to raise our rents despite the infestation. Ultimately I left the apartment after a year of this problem, because I just didn't want to deal with this infestation any longer. I cannot recommend working with this company.

    STAY AWAY!!!!!! Worst experience I've ever had with a property management. If I could give zero…read morestars I would, hands down. Our entire complex was issued three day notices to comply with a demand or move out (within three days!), ours for having a cooler and a bike rack next to our car in the car port. Many residents have lived here for 10+ years and some with kids (now potentially at threat of eviction). They never come to fix issues. And when they do come (finally) they show up randomly and expect to gain entry when they do. They don't help when we report safety concerns regarding theft and forceful entry's by criminals. Absolutely worst experience I've ever had with a management company and wish they had some ethical standards other than getting their paycheck at the end of the month. We didn't want to move but now are likely forced to given we have no idea when we will get another three day notice (and potentially end up homeless) over absolute bs.
