You can also pay at the machine. There's a walkway on one side of the parking lot that takes you to 23rd St or you can walk around... I had the lunch beef quesadilla, and it was quite tasty. Good portion size, good taste. But the showstopper was that queso. Generally I am a pure queso Blanco fanatic. I find queso made with something closer to cheddar cheese then made worse with bad salsa to be vastly inferior. This quedo, however, was fantastic. It had the right blend of cheese, with a bit of jalapeños. You know it's excellent because that top layer starts to solidify so you need to stir it up. The chips were plenty and kept coming. Wifey and I moved my son into his summer apartment in Arlington and we needed some dinner. We were actually going to get sushi, but the margaritas people were drinking on the outside patio changed our minds. We were going to eat outside, but it was getting a little late and chilly so we opted for inside and we had menus, water, chips, salsa and our drink order in in no time. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful with explaining the portion sizes for us. I ordered the beef, chicken and chorizo fajitas and a LARGE Mango Margarita. Wifey had the Chicken burrito and a regular margarita and my son had the Enchilada combo and a strawberry margarita. My only complaint about the meal was the large mango Margarita didn't seem to have a large amount of tequila in it as the flavor of the tequila was missing. Otherwise, all of our meals were delicious. The salsa was a little watery, but had nice chunks of tomato and onions and a nice spiciness to it. I never had chorizo on a fajita platter and now I don't m ow if I can ever NOT have it again...very tasty. A true five star rating, the food was great, the presentation, atmosphere, decor, just an all-around great experience. I had the beef burrito which came with a generous helping of refried beans, Spanish rice, pico, and guacamole. Came here after leaving from visiting my dad at the hospital close by. I was familiar with the area but have never been here so we decided to try it. The margaritas were top tier and not watered down. I don't like to taste my tequila so it was sweet. I ordered the Mexicano Pollo which came with shrimp on top and cooked with cilantro. I heard all of the positive reviews and had to come here and see for myself. I had a mixed experience. They have a menu full of items that you would find at most Mexican food restaurants such as tacos, chimichangas, burritos, rice and beans. They have a small outdoor patio and an adequate indoor dining area. There is metered street parking out front and a parking lot nearby. I ordered the BBQ Bistec con Chorizo with some plantains. The meat was off the charts, the plantains were hot fire. The vegetables however, were bland. No seasoning, no butter. They just steamed them and put them on my plate. The meat was grilled perfectly and has flavor for days. The plantains were fresh and had just the right amount of sweetness. I have to admit my service was a tad slow, I had to flag my server down a couple of times. You know that you cannot go to a Mexican restaurant without getting a drink. A tried their sangria, which was the days special and was made fresh. I also tried a blackberry margarita on the rocks (you can get them frozen too). There drinks are smooth. If you are of age, you must try one. All in all this restaurant is ok. I gave it a four star rating, but a 3.5 would be more accurate. The Lechonito al Horno (Pork with Onions and Rice) was unfortunately not really up to par, it was somehow both too dry and too fatty so I sadly wouldn't order that again. It also came with a side of (ick) broccoli and carrots that seemed kind of out of place. The watermelon margarita was enjoyable but a little too sweet. Los Tios Grill is a chain. I've tried their Del Rey, Virginia location during the take-out only time, and loved their fajitas and to-go margaritas. But, I was curious to try their regular service menu one day. Well, I was walking on a Sunday morning, looking for a church that might be holding services along 23rd Street in Arlington, Virginia, when the smell of the restaurant caught my attention as I walked down the street and remembered my desire to try again. The restaurant has an amazing atmosphere, displaying colorful art pieces and promoting a comfortable, but higher than "casual" dining atmosphere. The place speaks of cultural pride and fully engages that aspect of the culinary experience. The staff was amazingly friendly. If you're familiar with Latin American hospitality, this place exudes it. I ordered the Salvadoran version of the carne asada, which is slightly different than the Mexican version, but only in the amount of spices used to season the meat. It was absolutely fantastic! They used flank steak, which is typical. It was perfectly seasoned and left me wanting more! The beans were simple basic Mexican food variety beans and I absolutely love that they were not fussy or seasoned excessively. They were a perfect complement to the meal. The salad had both tomato and avocado in it, and was light and refreshing. The corn tortillas were small thick tortillas, which are more commonly used as edible utensils than for assembling a taco. Oh! Ask for the habanero sauce... It is a perfect complement to the steak. I grew up along the southern border and spent most of my adult life eating spicy foods. The habanero sauce had some kick to it, but I did not find it to be oppressive. The margarita was fantastic! I ordered the "big" one--lime with salt and on the rocks. I thoroughly enjoyed the flavor and the simplicity of the margarita! Now, one thing about me, I don't give a flying rip about presentation. I come to a restaurant to eat, not to be impressed with colors and layout of food items. That being said, Los Tios Grill put together a very appealing plate. I judge Mexican/Latino restaurants by basic standards. First, the beans have to be amazing. I don't want fussy beans with chunks of stuff in them to make them look Charro or fancy. I just want ordinary beans to taste great. Los Tios nailed it! The next category I use for judging a Mexican/Latino restaurant is their margaritas. I only ever order lime margaritas on the rocks. If they can't handle a basic margarita, then they're probably not going to be able to handle their food. Again, Los Tios presented an amazing margarita. Couldn't be happier! Another critical category for me is the salsa provided before the meal. I despise cilantro! There is no way for me to enjoy cilantro. It is of the devil; it must be thrown into the lake of fire! Sadly, this restaurant put fresh cilantro into their salsa. However! It was in large enough pieces that I could remove it from the salsa and enjoy.
