While the pork pupusa is a little greasy, the chicken pupusa a little bland, the cheese one is PERFECTION. Grilled attractively with the cheese having that beautiful, brown char; I fell in love as I pulled it apart completely in awe as the cheese stretched into my mouth. I stopped by here recently for rotisserie chicken and pupusas to go. The chicken I received was dried out on the edges in two spots, as though it had been sitting out for a while and not freshly cut. The flavor did not make up for the dried out piece I received. The white sauce had too much of a garlic taste to it. The fried plantains were perfectly cooked. The yucca was also dried out. The pupusas were amazing! Large in size, perfectly grilled with cheese oozing out the sides and crispy. I got 3 types, one of each; cheese, pork filled and also bean. This is my all-time favorite Pupuseria in town!! Sofia's can do no wrong in my eyes. When I first started to order from here, I'd get their empanadas, pupusas, and tamales. Over the years I haven't been able to stop ordering their chicken and carne asada tacos. My Oh My! are they good!! If you're ever in the Arlington area, I highly recommend you make a stop by. They even serve breakfast so don't ever think that you're too early or too late. The wait time is typically 15- 20 minutes for food and they do get busy during the lunch rush. When I was walking around the neighborhood, I passed by Sofia's and I just had to come inside and try. I've loved pupusas since I was you g and it has always been a comfort food for me. I got the pork, beans, and loroco pupusas. I recommend eating these pupusas with the pickled vegetables and salsa with it. The pork had a lot of flavor. The loroco was basically a vegetable inside with a slight floral taste. It was filled with a lot of cheese. The beans were interesting because normally my pupusas with beans are not that cheesy but this was cheese city!! The cheese was so melty and stretching it was like those mozzarella stick commercials. I think the price with the flavor is an awesome combination and I'll definitely be stopping by again! COVID-wise: employees are wearing gloves and masks. Tables are 6 ft apart. This place is always one of my favorite places to come to in Arlington. They're located next to a 24 hour laundromat so anytime I do laundry I'll pop in a buy myself 2-3 pupusas with an horchata. It's my go-to! But their salchipapa is also really yummy as well! I look forward to trying more items soon since they're super close to me. The service is always kind and it's always pretty busy in their for the most part. It's pretty big for enough folks to sit down and they have Hispanic music playing which is a plus. I've been on the search for solid pupusas. La Casitas in Silver Spring set the bar for me, so I really wanted to find something of similar quality... and Sofia's Pupuseria is it! I called them to arrange a pick up and it was ready in 20 minutes. They did a great job wrapping up the food and keeping everything fresh. I ordered four revueltas (pork and cheese) and two carne asada tacos. The revueltas were amazing!! I think they are more cheesy than I've had before, but zero complaints. The complimentary sauce and coleslaw went perfectly with them. The carne asada tacos were also amazing. I liked them better than other taco-specific restaurants. It was an easy pick up! A great family owned restaurant. The food was really delicious, with the steak being very flavorfully marinated. Their pico de gallo was excellent as well. The chicken tamale was not what I was expecting, but very good nonetheless. We'll definitely be back for the pupusitas which we didn't get this time around. The service was quick and friendly and they brought it to us at our table. The restaurant itself is fairly large with about seating for 20-ish. As much as I love the fancy, boujee taco places in NoVA, nothing beats an authentic, family-owned business with simple yet delicious tacos. I happened to stumble upon Sofia's Pupuseria and I'm so glad that Yelp brought me here. Tacos are $2-3 and there were plenty of meat options. I went for one carne asada, a chorizo, and pollo. The meat was well seasoned and grilled, and not too greasy. The tacos are topped with cilantro and onion, with choice of dipping sauces. Besides tacos, their menu seemed quite extensive with breakfast platters, fish, burritos, and roast chicken. The restaurant had a decent sized parking lot right outside, which was a huge perk given that most of the places on Columbia Pike have very limited parking. I'm a huge pupusa fan and it can be hard to find good ones, which is shocking in this area. Sofia's makes some delicious ones though, so I'm a fan. They were thick, perfectly griddled, with plenty of cheese and spicy curtido and salsa rojo. This place offers more than pupusas, but I'm not a fan of places that offer a variety of cuisines (Sofia's has Honduran, Salvadoran, Peruvian, and maybe a few other options), because they are often not done well. So I'll likely just stick to the pupusas. read more

I was greeted by a smiling lady who was patient with me as I contemplated on what to get. The menu is pretty large, so if you're a new comer, just choose anything! I ended up choosing a chicken & cheese papusa along with a squash papusa. This was my first time ever trying papusas, so I will say my frame of reference is non-existent. My expectation was to be blown away by the flavors. To my dismay, the papusas lacked flavor. They did not taste as good as they smelled. This was really disappointing. I watched the ladies cook them to order with such craft and skill, only to be met with a chewy tasteless circle. It could be that papusas taste this way usually and my experience is typical. I have seen this place over the years and been meaning to try it. I have heard friends debate the pupusas and been meaning to try it. As Arlington Columbia Pike continues to change I hope this place stays, and I am so glad I have finally tried it. The food is super good. Like worthy driving to try. We got bean and cheese pupusas, carnitas tacos Al carbon, yuca con chicharrón, and carne asada. Let's see, the pupusas are right balance of cheese and beans and the pickled cabbage is crispy and right flavors. I love when the cheese oozes out and you get those little crispy edges but the inside is still plumpy. iykyk. These ones did that. The tacos Al carbon with carnitas - they are small little tacos which was perfect for us. I wish I tried the other meats and most likely will be back for more. The meat was flavorful and tortillas were yum. (We also need to go back because it was hot that day and I want to try their soups!) With the yuca con chicharrón, the yuca was perfectly crispy on the outside with the melt in the mouth center. Chicharrón was perfectly cooked. I'm not a huge fan of the cabbage slaw being served on top bc although I love eating it with the yuca but don't like when it makes the yuca soggy. Thankfully my kids and I ate it quick enough for that to not happen. The carne asada was my fav, the rice and beans side were great. Never underestimate some great black beans and rice. It is not always they are able to stand on their own. They can there. The carne was cooked perfect, soft tender flavorful. My kids are pretty picky and if they weren't full full they probably would have wanted another one. My only wish was this place had more ambiance. My recent visit was my second time dining here. It took a minute to make a selection because the options are endless. After I placed my order for nachos, I took a seat and waited no less than 15 minutes. I watched people come and go. The lady in front of me had eaten her meal before my nachos came. That I'll never understand. Their take out business is very good which is a good indication of good food. They were busy during lunchtime but when I went up to the counter to inquire about the wait, I was told they made everything fresh. Quite honestly, I've made much better nachos at home. I had a plate of refried beans, cheese ground beef and nachos. There were avocado slices and a couple of slices of lime to garnish. Give them a try.
