The wife and I decided to take a weekend trip to Fredericksburg. We loaded up the car and hit the road. Once we hit Fredericksburg around lunchtime, we were hungry and looked for lunch. I cannot tell you how giddy I was when I noticed a Los Tios was here. I told the wife it was non-negotiable, and we would be eating here for lunch. For those who do not know, Los Tios is a restaurant that has a long standing existence in Houston dating back to the early 1970s. Even though I reside in the San Antonio area, I grew up in the Houston area, and have a very fond memories of Los Tios. As a tot, I shared many a good meal with my parents and grandparents. So yeah, stumbling across this was huge in my book! We arrived and were greeted promptly. They had the typical Mexican restaurant decor and big open floor plan. While walking to our table, I was digging the Stevie Ray Vaughan music playing throughout the restaurant. We put our name on a list, and after a brief 5-10 minute wait we were seated. We were greeted promptly by two nice waitresses. One waitress was in training and learning the ropes. They took our drink order and we were left to peruse the menu. Chips and salsa came while we waited for our drinks. Chips and salsa always tells the story if a Mexican restaurant will have good food. Knowing the quality of Los Tios, I was not worried. As expected, the chips and salsa were just as delicious as I remembered having them as a tot! We picked at chips and browsed the menu. On a side note.. When in Rome... You must get a puffy queso. This is one of their signature dishes you get here. It is an actual queso puff and not a cheap imitation taco shell flipped over with queso on top. This is the real deal. I ordered the lunch special of one puffy queso and one cheese enchilada. The wife ordered the chicken fajita tacos, but did not get a puffy queso. Her loss.... After a nice visit with the wife, and in good time, our food arrived. Very hot plate, so I went to knock out the puffy queso first. It was absolutely delicious. Crunchy, cheesy, and really good. After my plate cooled down a scarfed down the rest. All of it was very delicious. Not one spec of food left on my plate. The wife enjoyed her tacos. We paid our bill and made our way out the door. On the way out they have a big bowl of Andes mints, so I grabbed some before heading to the car. The entire experience was nostalgic and delicious. Everything was excellent just as I remembered it. If you are in Fredericksburg, I highly recommend you stop in and get you some good Tex-Mex. You will not be disappointed. According to local news, Los Tios is/was supposed to come to San Antonio. It cannot get here soon enough. Hey Los Tios, what is the ETA on that? Can you provide me with a date? Enjoy!

We stumbled upon Los Tios the last time we were there and decided we had to try. Immediately upon entering we noticed the beautiful decor, inviting bar area and comfortable seating throughout the restaurant. Our complimentary chips and salsa were already spread throughout our table upon seating along with menus which I really appreciated. Usually we have to wait for both at many restaurants so it was nice touch. We did call ahead and make reservations so I'm not sure if they do this only for reservations or for everybody , but regardless it was nice to sit down and start eating as some of us were hungry after the drive there ! I ordered a skinny margarita , queso (didn't get a pic but the chips that come with it reminded us of a thick soapapilla chip but not as sweet - they were DELICIOUS but you cannot order a bigger order of them), and combo #5. The puffy queso was delightful. I couldn't wait to try one. San Antonio used to have something similar at a Mexican restaurant that shut down so I loved that they had these ! It's their specialty apparently, highly recommend trying. My young kiddos and entire family enjoyed their food. We all tried a little bit of everything. We decided next time we make a trip to f-burg we are absolutely going back to Los Tios! Thank you for your delicious food and service! Please consider expanding to SA!
Great Mexican food! We're here for a long weekend and I was craving Mexican food. Conveniently located off the main street with Publix parking lot across the street. We got there a little after 5 on a Friday evening and wait time was 15 minutes. We definitely beat the dinner rush because it very quickly became packed. We shared the 1lb black angus beef fajitas and it was absolutely delicious. Homemade tortillas were excellent. $6 house margaritas before 6pm and there great. Service was wonderful. Would definitely come back again!
Busy here- 30 min Tuesday night wait. Good food and service though. The passionately perfect margarita was superb (my wife thought it was too sweet) and a cheese stuffed chile Relleno was excellent.

I had no idea Los Tios was originally a Houston establishment, so that was a pleasant surprise! We ordered the puffed queso and crispy tacos--both were good and very filling. The tacos were a little on the greasy side, but honestly, I still enjoyed them. The chips and salsa were so good, definitely one of my favorite parts of the meal. I didn't order a drink myself, but I tried my sister's margarita and it was strong and yummy, just the way a margarita should be. The ambiance was eccentric and fun, which made it a great spot for a bachelorette trip and added to the overall experience. The service was great! Manager came out to greet us! Overall, it was a solid stop during our trip, and since I live in Houston, I'll definitely be checking out a location there to compare. Would recommend if you're in the area and craving classic Tex-Mex.
What a fun and tasty spot! I was invited here, and I see why people around here like it. The bartenders were friendly/smiley and all staff here seemed to check on you regardless of whom your main server was. That is huge in this day and age. I really enjoyed the green sauce they served with the chips. The red sauce seemed a bit watery...could just have been an off day. So I will give that one a shot again next time. The fixtures around the bar area were gorgeous, as well as the presentation of the drinks and food. The margaritas were refreshing and a really great deal during happy hour. My only complaint was the bar area had some fruit flies. But that is an easy fix. Overall, I would definitely come back here and try more dishes with this type of welcoming and professional atmosphere.

We ordered the combos. It looked like a lot of food but some of the reviews were true. No on the puffy queso. Yes the chips dips fall flat. Mediocre
Disappointing Mexican food! 100% Skip! Ambiance & Service: the restaurant is large with a cute ambiance and lots of seating. Service was fine but nothing to write home about! Food: - Cheese Enchiladas with Spanish Sauce: Soggy, lacked flavor, and too salty! The sauce was practically just chunky marinara sauce. Completely off-putting! TL;DR: Cute place for drinks but food was a huge miss. Stay away from the Spanish Sauce!

Quick service. They threw in a puffed Queso shell. It was not the star of the show. In fact, not really great at all. Instead of salsa and queso like most places, they serve salsa and guac dip. Fresh sauces and fresh hot chips. Excellent. Happy hour $6 margs were okay. I could actually taste the tequila. 4:00 was perfect. They got slammed after we got there. Cool bar, lots of i door and outdoor seating. Street tacos 9/10 Salsa 9/10 Guac sauce 10/10 Margs 6/10 Service 10/10 Ambiance 9/10.

Los Tios in Fredericksburg is a must-visit! The food is outstanding, with the chips and salsa being a personal favorite--fresh and full of flavor. Happy hour starts at 3 PM, making it a perfect spot to unwind. I can't say enough about the service, especially from bartender Luke, who was exceptional! His friendly vibe and drink recommendations truly enhanced the experience. If you're looking for great food and a welcoming atmosphere, Los Tios is the place to be!

We loved this place so much, we came two nights in a row! The Ultimate Margarita was very tasty. Hubby had ground beef enchiladas the first night and the quail the second! Both were amazing! How does one describe this place besides absolutely fantastic. Everything we had here, food wise, drink wise, and service wise was top tier. There is a reason this place is always bustling, so be mindful of what time you visit. We ordered multiple items, starting with the Katie's T-sip queso, which was perfect. It had the right combination of queso, meat, and guacamole in every bite. The nachos were exactly how we like them, individually filled with the taco meat having great flavor and could easily be shared as a dish. The ceviche was tasty and acidic, just wish it came with more chips. The taquitos dorados had great flavor and the black beans were too tasty; the beans were packed with seasoning and was a nice change from the usual refried beans. I do wish the taquitos didn't have the tomatillo sauce on it as those spots got a little soggy. For the entrees, we opted for a combo #6 plate and the Laredo (not pictured). The combo plate had a beef taco (with homemade shell similar to the taco salad one), an enchilada, and a puffy queso. The taco was perfect and the enchilada was hands down my fav from that dish. I could've dealt without the puffy queso; if anything it could be stuffed and probably be better. The Laredo plate had an enchilada, a taco, and a tamale. The tamale was nice and fluffy, like those I remember as a child. Overall, this place is truly a must visit. The avocado salsa was *chef's kiss* and my kids asked if we could bring some home. Everything we had was full of well balanced flavors and the service was top notch. When back in Fredericksburg, we will certainly be back! Lastly, everything was priced well; we walked out of there each time without breaking the bank, which was great bc most places now cost at least $100. read more
Came here on a Saturday afternoon. It we recommended to us from someone we met at a winery and we love Mexican so we had to try it out. The queso and guacamole were delicious. I got the combination fajitas with chicken and beef, they were both a 10! Our server was attentive and made sure we had what we needed. The space was bright and vibrant. Lived in Houston for over 30 years and always ate at Los Tios. Saw them here and tried to get in a few weeks ago but too long a wait. Went today at 2:30 and lots of tables. great place with high ceilings. Nice bar area. Server was very nice. Chips are served with red and green salsa. Free chips that were light and crispy. Why do places in SA charge for chips?? ( looking at you Rosario's ) Started with small Katie T-Sip dip. Fancy queso. Just like I remember. Oh forgot the margs. The wife had a skinny and I had an El President. Both good but she got a big buzzz. Happy hour 3-6 for marg specials. Then we got plates - #2 and #6. Our Los Tios usuals. Delicious. Crispy tacos and nice cheese enchiladas. They even have a fountain like back in Houston. Kids don't even think about it!!! Unless you want to wait, mid afternoon is best for now. After giving Los Rios a second try, unfortunately the food quality and service have not improved. I ordered the Acapulco plate and was served a stale queso puff, which I sent back. It returned slightly less stale, but still dry and largely flavorless. A friends queso puff was also stale and inedible. The refried beans tasted canned with little flavor. The cheese enchiladas served with minimal cheese, oddly the taco shell was fried open, and the tortillas seemed like a flour/corn blend, not fresh made. The atmosphere is nice and it's fine for drinks and chips, but the food was once again a disappointment. Considering the quality of Mexican food in the San Antonio area, this Houston based establishment does not meet standards for this area. read more

Drove from San Antonio just to find out what all the buzz is about. Tios is planning a location closer to me on Broadway in Alamo Heights but I can't wait so I came to FBG today. Definitely a great experience overall, and great hospitality from everyone. Martha was a great server, knowledgeable about the menu and very precise in her order taking. I had the cheese enchildas with Spanish sauce with double rice and the tortilla soup. The tortilla soup is acceptable, I have had better. Cheese enchildas sauce tastes ketchupy like at Mamacitas in Kerrville. Acceptable. The grilled Monterrey chicken on a bed of onions and greenpepper was good! Tortillas both corn and flour are good. Nice place w good energy and ambience. Margs are great. Place is ran very well. Great service from start to finish. Chips and salsa on point, cheesy puff was a fun treat, never had one. Tacos were great and crispy. Enchiladas feel a little short of my Tex Mex standards. But it was a great visit, great staff, fun place and would definitely recommend! Def best Mexican food in Fredericksburg which ain't saying much in this German town. lol. It reminded me of a very nice place you would eat in Fort Worth which is a high compliment. Fredericksburg has a way of making me feel "food poor", paying resort-town prices for ho-hum food. Los Tios breaks the mold with solid but affordable Mexican food. They took over the space that the luxe but defunct August E's once occupied. The long bar, almost always packed and lively, is the perfect place to enjoy a margarita and a "puffy" - a fried, puffed up hollow tortilla doused with queso and other toppings of your choice. The Tex-Mex dinner combos are a great value - not super original, but well-executed for the price. Ceviche, fresh and bright, is a great way to begin a meal with friends. Great happy-hour specials, and great addition to the local dining scene. read more

Highest rated Mexican restaurant in town. Food was solid and table service was solid but host stand screwed up and tried to lie about it. Checked in and were told 30 min wait. An hour later I went to the host stand and both girls said we sent you a text. I showed them my phone with "0" notifications. She looked at the iPad and it showed not delivered. I specifically provided my # 3 times because she kept repeating it wrong. I wouldn't return for avg food and an inept host staff. read more
