My husband and I are frequent visitors of Fredericksburg (San Antonio residents) and had yet to try a Mexican restaurant there. We stumbled upon Los Tios the last time we were there and decided we had to try. Immediately upon entering we noticed the beautiful decor, inviting bar area and comfortable seating throughout the restaurant. Our complimentary chips and salsa were already spread throughout our table upon seating along with menus which I really appreciated. Usually we have to wait for both at many restaurants so it was nice touch. We did call ahead and make reservations so I'm not sure if they do this only for reservations or for everybody , but regardless it was nice to sit down and start eating as some of us were hungry after the drive there ! I ordered a skinny margarita , queso (didn't get a pic but the chips that come with it reminded us of a thick soapapilla chip but not as sweet - they were DELICIOUS but you cannot order a bigger order of them), and combo #5. The puffy queso was delightful. I couldn't wait to try one. San Antonio used to have something similar at a Mexican restaurant that shut down so I loved that they had these ! It's their specialty apparently, highly recommend trying. My young kiddos and entire family enjoyed their food. We all tried a little bit of everything. When they first arrived they were good. This is the second time we've returned hoping the last was a misstep. Nope, it's not. Service is not up to par at all. Especially at the bar. Great Mexican food! We're here for a long weekend and I was craving Mexican food. Conveniently located off the main street with Publix parking lot across the street. We got there a little after 5 on a Friday evening and wait time was 15 minutes. We definitely beat the dinner rush because it very quickly became packed. We traveled to Fredericksburg for a bachelorette weekend and decided to try Los Tios Mexican Restaurant after finding it on Yelp. I had no idea Los Tios was originally a Houston establishment, so that was a pleasant surprise! We ordered the puffed queso and crispy tacos--both were good and very filling. The tacos were a little on the greasy side, but honestly, I still enjoyed them. The chips and salsa were so good, definitely one of my favorite parts of the meal. I didn't order a drink myself, but I tried my sister's margarita and it was strong and yummy, just the way a margarita should be. The ambiance was eccentric and fun, which made it a great spot for a bachelorette trip and added to the overall experience. The service was great! Manager came out to greet us! Overall, it was a solid stop during our trip, and since I live in Houston, I'll definitely be checking out a location there to compare. What a fun and tasty spot! I was invited here, and I see why people around here like it. The bartenders were friendly/smiley and all staff here seemed to check on you regardless of whom your main server was. That is huge in this day and age. I really enjoyed the green sauce they served with the chips. The red sauce seemed a bit watery...could just have been an off day. So I will give that one a shot again next time. The fixtures around the bar area were gorgeous, as well as the presentation of the drinks and food. The margaritas were refreshing and a really great deal during happy hour. My only complaint was the bar area had some fruit flies. But that is an easy fix. How does one describe this place besides absolutely fantastic. Everything we had here, food wise, drink wise, and service wise was top tier. There is a reason this place is always bustling, so be mindful of what time you visit. We ordered multiple items, starting with the Katie's T-sip queso, which was perfect. It had the right combination of queso, meat, and guacamole in every bite. The nachos were exactly how we like them, individually filled with the taco meat having great flavor and could easily be shared as a dish. The ceviche was tasty and acidic, just wish it came with more chips. The taquitos dorados had great flavor and the black beans were too tasty; the beans were packed with seasoning and was a nice change from the usual refried beans. I do wish the taquitos didn't have the tomatillo sauce on it as those spots got a little soggy. For the entrees, we opted for a combo #6 plate and the Laredo (not pictured). The combo plate had a beef taco (with homemade shell similar to the taco salad one), an enchilada, and a puffy queso. The taco was perfect and the enchilada was hands down my fav from that dish. I could've dealt without the puffy queso; if anything it could be stuffed and probably be better. The Laredo plate had an enchilada, a taco, and a tamale. The tamale was nice and fluffy, like those I remember as a child. Overall, this place is truly a must visit. The avocado salsa was *chef's kiss* and my kids asked if we could bring some home. Everything we had was full of well balanced flavors and the service was top notch. When back in Fredericksburg, we will certainly be back! It returned slightly less stale, but still dry and largely flavorless. A friends queso puff was also stale and inedible. The refried beans tasted canned with little flavor. The cheese enchiladas served with minimal cheese, oddly the taco shell was fried open, and the tortillas seemed like a flour/corn blend, not fresh made. The atmosphere is nice and it's fine for drinks and chips, but the food was once again a disappointment. Drove from San Antonio just to find out what all the buzz is about. Tios is planning a location closer to me on Broadway in Alamo Heights but I can't wait so I came to FBG today. Definitely a great experience overall, and great hospitality from everyone. Martha was a great server, knowledgeable about the menu and very precise in her order taking. I had the cheese enchildas with Spanish sauce with double rice and the tortilla soup. The tortilla soup is acceptable, I have had better. Cheese enchildas sauce tastes ketchupy like at Mamacitas in Kerrville. Acceptable. The grilled Monterrey chicken on a bed of onions and greenpepper was good! Tortillas both corn and flour are good. Great thing is you get a green salsa also. Again- no real flavor just avocado base with sour cream. No peppers or other flavor. I mean the salsa doesn't have to hot- just some flavor. Food was great. We had fajitas and a Combination plate with Enchilada, taco, tamale, rice and charro beans. The charro beans were good, just okay. Fajita meat was trimmed well and very tender. I know catering to public is important, and some people do not like heat. A place should not skip on flavor. Food was good or maybe great, but not memorable or outstanding. Maybe we just ordered the wrong things. The wait staff was excellent and the restaurant itself was beautiful and busy. Lots of tourists and a few locals it seemed were there.
