Walking up, it smells amazing. Once you're inside you can see beautiful, hand carved chairs and booth seat - the vibrant colors and beautiful images instantly reminded me of my visit to Oaxaca, Mexico. Before we were fully seated chips and salsa were in the table, and right when we got comfortable they took our drink order. The food came quickly and it was delicious! The Mexican style tacos with guacamole and beans & rice on the side were wonderful. They tasted exactly as I expected and hoped for. My kids got the flour tortillas with beans & rice, and my wife got a Los Ranchitos Burrito - there were no leftovers it was so good! The staff was also pleasant, well groomed, and quick. The bathrooms need an update as they were slightly too "used" but I don't fault them for that. Definitely give it a try! read more

To start with I'm from Texas and good Mexican/Tex Mex food. This place doesn't even come close. The salsa was so bland that I added hot sauce to it to give it some taste. The queso had no seasonings and was just melted cheese in a bowl. I asked our waitress if she had any "hot" salsa and she brought me some that she said most customers couldn't eat. It was a little better but not by much. When my meal got there I used the 2nd bowl of salsa on my rice, beans and enchiladas to give them some taste. If you like Mexican food with not much taste or heat then this is the place for you, otherwise keep driving and find yourself a little hole in the wall restaurant that serves much better food. read more

We tried this place for a late lunch on a Saturday. The sign out front advertised a chimi special so we were afraid it was going to be just gringo mex. The building is unpromising -- a repurposed former chain restaurant in a run-down parking lot. Needs a basket of flowers or something. But the interior had booths with gorgeously carved and painted wooden backs lined around the room. The menu had every combo imaginable. They also offered some house specialties, and a good selection of Mexican soft drinks and beer. We tried the traditional Mexican-style soft corn tacos with meat, onions and cilantro. The taco shells were lightly fried, hot and chewy. Pastor was really good. The carne asada was a little bit dry. The serving of frijoles on the side was so generous we could have shared an order. The chips were hot, thin and crispy, served with a somewhat sweet tomato-saucy salsa. After kindly warning us about the heat they brought out a bowl of good hot sauce. Worth a visit. read more

We made a pilgrimage to Hornbaker Gardens near Princeton and had lunch with Aunt Sue and Aunt Annie while we were there. We went to Los Ranchitos because we wanted Mexican, but were a little concerned about it being gringoized or dumbed down Mexican. Actually it may be just that unless you look at the bottom of the page of Especialidads. Almost hidden there is the taco menu with a nice list of various meats. Before I ordered my tacos, I asked the waiter about the size of the tortillas they use. He indicated they were small, maybe a little bigger than three inches diameter. I think he wanted me to order more tacos. I had one with chorizo, one lengua and one al pastor. The pastor was good, the best of the three, a little sweet with pineapple. The chorizo was fine, pretty standard. The lengua was OK, but I thought perhaps a little stale. They may not sell enough. All were dressed with lime, cilantro and onion. They were much larger than described and I really did not need all three, especially with the doubled tortillas. The Aunts had tacos as well with similar comments. The salsa is a smooth tomato style with some cilantro and a little too much sweetness. It was just OK when I strained out the chunks of raw onion. The beans were quite good, not over seasoned, smooth and creamy with the loose texture that I like. The orders were very large. Ms T had the Speedy Gonzales which is pretty gringo stuff, but she liked the ground beef in her enchilada. So for people who like the Americanized Mexican food style there is plenty to choose from and I'm sure it will meet expectations. If you are wanting a little more authenticity, find the taco menu for some decent if not spectacular tacos. read more

Our first time there was our last. We got a to-go order, got home and discovered food missing. My hubby went back for the missing stuff while everyone else that had food ate. Food was average, service was average to sub par. Chips seemed a bit stale or out of a bag, definitely not fresh. Salsa was decent, with tomato & cilantro - queso was average. Nothing really stood out to me personally about this place. Big problem for me was the comfort level of the place. Entire area was very warm temperature-wise and was filled with flies. Spent entire time swatting flies away from my meal, not really an appetizing experience. At one point a fly landed in the queso which pretty much ended the entire meal for me. Menu is quite large with plenty to choose from. They could probably narrow it down to a page or two and put more effort into those dishes as flavors seemed bland to me. Just my .02 read more

Tried eating here Sunday, December 22 2019 at around 4:30. Had to wait a while to be seated. When the waiter finally arrived to take our drink order, it was a good 10 minutes until he returned and with the wrong drinks. He corrected this error, and we continued to wait for our order to be taken. Having eaten the complimentary chips and salsai, drinking most of my water and my friend his soda, we opted to walk out after waiting 20 minutes without our orders being taken. We left money for the soda on the table. We've eaten here before and had no issues, but today there seemed to be a real problem. Not sure we'll go back after this experience though. I only get their Los Ranchitos cheesesteak or mexican style tacos. This is the only Mexican place that cannot do a carne asada burrito. :( I have attempted to get one 2 times, once it had red sauce on it, after I said NO sauce and the 2nd time I had to explain about 2 times what I wanted and it was the size of a taco when when I received it and folded up like a taco. The food and service each get two stars. The food is so so. Tortilla chips from the bag, bland salsa. I think the menu has too many items and Los Ranchitos would be good to reduce the number of items and focus on preparing those well. Portions are filling. Service . . . it's hard to get a smile out of the staff. A bit of graciousness would go a long way. It's agony getting the check -- once you get your food you are kind of forgotten. The atmosphere is elevated by carved chairs painted in many interesting designs; I understand these are brought in from Mexico. Unfortunately, the atmosphere is diminished by lack of acoustic treatment makes it an uncomfortably loud experience even when relatively few customers are present. read more

I think that with that me and my extended family are responsible for keeping this place in business. I just cannot get enough. I mean I could say that about many mexican places but the food at "The Ranch" as we lovingly refer to it, is just wonderful. And the servers are so nice! I love getting the Golden Margarita on the rocks. And there is no judging here. You can have three and no one is going to say, "Whoa Brian are you sure you should have that much?" Because the people you came with are either on their third too or are just finishing the Monster Margarita. The salsa is made fresh because each batch is never the same. I love trying new things and their menu is HUGE. I may have had the same thing twice. Its fun for the whole family! Oh you can also get some yummy delicious queso to have with your chips. People are so picky. Honestly, this place isn't that bad, peoples expectations are too high. There isn't many Mexican places around here and this place does the job whenever I get a craving for Mexican food. I love the huevos rancheros and this guacamole is great, I'm never had an issue with the fajitas, and the margaritas are excellent as well. Do I have to select a star at all!? If you like wilted lettuce, poor service and the quality of Wangs 2am Chinese take-out, you may love this place. Otherwise, I suggest you stay away. The store bought chips and salsa were the favorite as they resembled the same flavor of my favorite brands that I get at Walmart for game nights in front of the tv. Everything else but the actual fajitas was poor. I would rate the fajitas 3 stars because someone put a sear on the meat. The seasoning and sizzle was lacking though. Rude busser and skiddish waiter that didn't know how to correct an issue or make suggestions, or check in to make sure his customers were ok.
