First time trying this place. The owner is super friendly taking all the orders while the waitstaff gets drinks and brings out the food. It was getting busy early on a Friday evening. We tried the regular and grapefruit margaritas, disappointingly weak just tasting like a sugary drink. The salsa that came with the chips was a bit bland so we asked for some fresh cilantro which helped. I requested a spicier salsa so enjoyed the salsa verde. We ordered fish tacos which my mom enjoyed, a little different than other places almost coming out chopped or shredded with pico de gallo. I now live in Texas, but while I was back home, I made it a point to patronize Fernandos! Partly because they decided to follow the Illinois mitigation measures and partly because for the excellent food and wonderful service! I visited the restaurant during the week after Easter and was promptly welcomed in and seated. My mom, uncle and aunt joined me. I decided to have the Chimichanga Especial Del Rancho and it was excellent. The chimichanga had the right amount of crispness, the rice was perfect and flavorful and the beans and salad were great, as well! My uncle had the Chile Verde and he was so pleased that he texted me a picture the next week to let me know he found a new favorite in Kewanee and was dining in again with my aunt. There are a lot of Tex-Mex choices in Kewanee, but I especially love Fernandos for the excellent hospitality and service and the must-try food! read more

Fernandos is my go to place for Mexican food. They are best in town IMO and that is saying a lot since Kewanee boasts arguably five Mexican restaurants last I counted. Fernando treats everyone like family and is prompt and friendly every time. I never even grab the menu, choosing instead to chat up Fernando a bit and ask him what I should have. He has never brought a thing that wasn't fantastic. Here's a few of my favorites for you to try. Arturo's Tacos are my current favorite this year. They are bacon, steak, chorizo, onion and shrimp. Add a little cheese and cilantro and you will lose your mind. His carnitas are great. Chicken is good in any form. Chorizo is the best I have ever had. You know how chorizo is often really greasy, not here. It has some grease after all it's chorizo but it is balanced and delicious. Don't forget your margaritas. His Cadillac margarita is good but try the Rolls Royce margarita which was named by a friend and I one afternoon. My favorite margarita is the prickly pear, but you make up your own mind. He has quite literally hundreds of flavors and flavor combinations. Don't forget to ask for the little complimentary dessert just don't ask him what it is because he doesn't know. It's a lemon cheesecake type of dish very small and a great way to cool down your mouth after a spicy meal. Oh One more thing. Try the goat tamales and try the guacamole sauce, if you like a little heat and don't forget a Mexican Coke. read more

The most organic Mexican I've tasted. Everything is made in house. They even make fresh sangria. Beans are fresh along with guacamole. The business has just opened up and is competing with a past business owners poor reputation. They spent 3 months cleaning and redecorating the interior. Owner uses dishes inspired from his mother's homemade Mexican recipes. It's too bad I live in the quad cities or I'd be back more often! First time, stopped in while passing through Kewanee and since it was Cinco De Mayo day thought Mexican food was appropriate. Took awhile to be waited on , but there was only one waitress and she was great, the busboy was great, the food very bland, Margarita was good but so much ice you didn't get a lot of the actual drink. We were never given a ticket for our meal so weren't sure of the actual cost of anything. 2 tacos and rice about $9.50 -$10 fajita was $16 plus 2 glasses of ice with a couple swallows of Margaritas total was $41.00! So the cost of the ice was maybe $12 each! I suggest they give your ticket at the table instead of just paying whatever at the register. Would not recommend read more

Now called Fernandos. Incredible food and super friendly service. I had one of the best California steak burritos I have ever had. I also enjoyed their chips and house made fresh salsa. They offer an enormous menu of choices and it seems priced right. I will definitely be back to try something else each time. I am just mad at myself for not coming here sooner. We stopped here for lunch after a visit to Good's Furniture. Wow. It was terrific. We had freshly made guacamole (aqesome) with warm, crispy chips to start. My friend had a shrimp burrito in a spinach tortilla. It was packed with shrimp and vegetables. She said it was delicious. I had a taco salad. It came in a very uniquely shaped tortilla "bowl." Excellent. For our complimentary dessert, Fernando himself brought us a tiny piece of a lime-flavored cake made from Meziczn cookies. Nice decor. Very welcoming. Food was delicious and you can tell it was made fresh. The waitstaff however is incompetent. We ordered and not 5 minutes later the same waitress comes to our table and asks if we have ordered yet. Me and my wife and friend went here for lunch on Saturday. We had heard good things and visit was not a disappointment. The #20 combo had a enchilada, taco, and tostada and rice and beans. This is definitely one of the best Mexican restaurants in the area and the service was fantastic. The owner/operator (Francisco?) was friendly and the service prompt. He has a nice bar in the back and very roomy and nice atmosphere. My wife and I have been here 9 or 10 times. We have tried pretty much every mexican restaurant in the Quad Cities, and the food at Casco De Oro is by far our favorite.
