Called to order, picked it up and all food was soggy and cold. Found hair in our beans. Also asked for no avocado as there is an allergy and was told it would be taken off. Got home and started to eat. Well, come to find out the guacamole was not taken off and had to rush to er. Called the store and was told I would get a full refund and they were laughing at the fact we were running to the er. When we got there they were arguing that it wasn't guacamole when we know it was. I was in Kewanee, IL (from Aurora, IL) and before we headed back home we decided to get something to eat so we decided on Mexican and this was right there and to our SURPRISE this food was "Great!" I mean it's real Mexican food, Good portions and the horchata (rice water) was what I expected to be. I highly recommend this restaurant if I'm ever in town definitely I'll be eating there. FYI this is even better then most Mexican restaurants in Aurora (lol). Good pleasant service. Large portions for a small price. We ordered a double order of chicken fajitas, and this served two people with at least a quarter of the dish left over. Another table ordered a burrito that was as large as the plate. The salsa was a bit boring; not bad, but not too spicy and kind of like tomato with a few veggies. We went for dinner last night and we started with a pitcher of margaritas, which is the Friday special $10.99! Pretty good considering the price. Not heavy in the tequila but also not heavy on the sour mix. Very smooth. I made the mistake of asking for hotter salsa. I had second thoughts as my waiter walked away chuckling... He brought back some really really crazy hot stuff.. Not a fan until I mixed it with the house salsa- then it was perfect! We also had a few street tacos which were very good and we split an order of seafood molcajete.. Very large portion.. Our eyes were obv bigger than our stomachs.. Service was great. Food was ok.. nothing special.. I ordered basic steak tacos with cilantro and onion and chips and salsa.. I came in and ordered to go.. total came out to 17 and some change.. couple days later I saw a charge to my account for 27 and some change.. seems like they decided to add a 10 dollar tip for themselves.. I was hoping to make this my regular spot while I was in town for business for the next couple months which would include bringing in my clients but not ok with getting charged an extra "tip" that was unauthorized.. it's a shame since I would have brought in more business than just an extra 10 dollars.. my advice is to watch your billing statement if you go here read more

I hate to do this but...we placed an order with Kewanee Los Ranchitos on the phone as we were planning to have a nice family meal together before our oldest son left to go back to his Air Force base in Florida. We got home 20 min later & see we are a meal short. I called & they read the order & didnt hear we ordered 2 of 1 of the meals. Ok, understandable. They said we got what we paid for. I understand that & we were going to send someone back to Kewanee (40 min round trip) to pick up & purchase another meal. Yes we got what we paid for but we didnt get what we ORDERED. I was told they were completely not at fault & didnt know what i expected them to do about it. Said oh you want me to say the customer is always right, is that it? The man I spoke to continued to talk over me & tell me they were busy & what did i think they should do bc its my word vs theirs. All i wanted was for us to get another meal that we were going to pay for & maybe they could say they were sorry for messing up our order but what i got instead was saying he was going to say they did nothing wrong all day long, he was busy and did i want to order the meal or not. I never asked for a free meal or anything extra. No. We don't want the order & they won't be seeing us again. We were pretty good customers. After tonight los ranchitos lost a customer. We ordered 2 Allen specials, 1 chicken with onion, tomato and no cheese, the second with chicken & steak and we also ordered 4 tamales with no cheese. What we got was 2 regular Allen specials both had cheese, both chicken, my husbands was missing the steak and they forgot our tamales. I called up there and was hung up on. The second time I called back the lady was really nice, I explained what was wrong and we drove back up there. When we got back home our tamales had cheese on them, also they tasted weird; the taste reminded me of canned ravioli. And my husbands dinner did have steak this time but now no chicken. We've been on the fence about eating there because we've had some other bad experiences in the past but after tonight we will never go back. So disappointed. read more

Los Ranchitos was located in a converted Hardee's. That building burned to the ground. They are now located in a converted Kentucky Fried Chicken. Both locations were vastly improved by being taken over by these restauranteurs. They understand the dining experience with a bright welcoming dining room and attentive waitstaff. The menu is large, varied, and authentic. The transformation of this location is amazing. The KFC was small and dingy feeling - they've done a great job creating a vibrant restaurant in a town that desperately needs interesting options. Well done! read more

It's okay. The food is okay, it's nothing spectacular I've never had "good" traditional Mexican food before but it was okay. They did have the option for bottled sodas that was different. The biggest thing I didn't like was that it's alllll one chair they have like 3 or 4 isles of tables put together then they also have booths, so really there is no personal meals with friends and family you're always sitting next to someone you don't know.
