I was in Kewanee, IL (from Aurora, IL) and before we headed back home we decided to get something…read moreto eat so we decided on Mexican and this was right there and to our SURPRISE this food was "Great!" I mean it's real Mexican food, Good portions and the horchata (rice water) was what I expected to be. I highly recommend this restaurant if I'm ever in town definitely I'll be eating there. FYI this is even better then most Mexican restaurants in Aurora (lol). Honestly try it if you like Mexican, I know cause I'm Mexican and and I have had it all my life and I tried so many places all over I been. We cook our own food but sometimes we have to eat out due to circumstances/time.

I love the ambiance of the place - courtesy of the old 50 foot wooden mahogany bar that was built by Pabst Blue Ribbon and imported from Belgium in 1898. She's a real beauty! Of course that's where I choose to set. They now have a tablet interactive menu that one can see all their items including food, drinks, and desserts. This visit I tried their 8 oz sirloin with sides Cole slaw and fried zucchini. For my drink I chose their seasonal Sam Adams Octoberfest, draft, tyvm. The Octoberfest was cold and refreshing (actually my favorite S.A.), however the sirloin was not up to par. It was very tough, and very chewy. There was a lot of seasoning on it, but it couldn't hide the fact that it wasn't a very good cut of meat nor very well prepared. My sides of cole slaw and (especially) the fried zucchini were excellent and prevented this from being a 3-Star review. Seriously, I can not recommend the sirloin and will not order it on my next visit here.

We were in town for the Back Road Music Festival This was basically the only restaurant open,…read moreother than Subway, and the only place in town with any cars in the lot, so we figured we'd give it a try. Boy were we glad we did. The food was PHENOMINAL! Don't judge a book by it's cover. It looks like nothing from outside, and the decor inside is very old and run down. But we kind of enjoyed the notalgia. Staff was so very friendly and prices were very reasonable. My daugther had the cheeseburger and said it was the best burger she's ever eaten! My sister and I had The Homestead. (Breaded chicken sandwich) It was phenominal as well. Especially the pickled onions. Think bread and butter pickles, but onions instead. Got to talk to the new owner who said she just bought it 2 weeks ago. We told her do not change the food. She said it was already a new menu since the last owner, so if you know the old menu and didn't like it - GO BACK AND GIVE IT A SECOND CHANCE! She also said they were going to remodel the place. We wish them the best of luck because when we come back next year for the music fest, this will be our first stop! Wish it was not 3 hours from our home, or we'd be regulars!
