I have loved this place since it opened! Earlier this week when I was there, I had a different waitperson. She did a good job. But it was different when I got the bill- instead of a regular paper bill where I write in the tip, I got a paper bill and an iPad shoved in my face and the only thing on the screen was the page where you tip. The waitperson stood right there while I filled it out and didn't even say thank- you. So if you do this again, there will be no tip at all. I have never been treated that way regarding tipping. A guy my husband works with said we should try El Rey Del Taco and boy we are glad we did. Being it is during a pandemic cleanliness and masks mean a lot to us. They were all wearing masks and the place was spotless. We got our meals to go and they were packaged very nicely and everything was hot and fresh when we started eating it. The food was delicious and the menu is varied with many protein options to choose from. We got a bunch of different things and everyone tried a bit of each thing. The salsa was very good and the hot sauces both green and red were very good. It was nice when you order tacos you choice corn or flour shells and if you want them made in the Mexican or American style. The chimi was one of the best we have ever had. The place is handicap accessible with a ramp from the parking lot to the door. I was very impressed with the friendly and efficient staff. read more

they have good tacos, and burritos the only thing i'm not a fan of is how pricey it is because the portions are way smaller than other places that are cheaper. I finish this in 10mins and other places I eat at last me two meals.. They do have good service takes a little while though. They used to my favorite when they were by the VFW and gave bigger portions for a better price. read more

OK, you're wanting Mexican food in Mendota. Unlike most things in town, in this case, you have options! You could go to the place that caters to white people, so their food has no flavor. You could go to the place that was good once, but after a series of bad decisions is no longer as good as it was. You could even go to the upstart run out of the back of a grocery store. But when I want Mexican, I go see El Rey Del Taco, the King of Taco, es verdad. Yes, the Taco Del Rey, with the beef, bacon, onions and cilantro, is as advertised, the Taco of the King. Get the three taco dinner, dab on the great homemade salsa, and enjoy! You can get chicken, el pastor, barbacoa, carnitas, chorizo, etc on the next trip in. Or if you're a pig like me, get another el pastor on the side. They also have enormous burritos and chimichangas. which yes, are not strictly Mexican food but are damn good. My friends who eat menudo swear by El Rey. Cheese dip is excellent! Asada is delicious. Service is, well, relaxed. But it really doesn't bother me, except that my stomach is growling waiting for my grilled meat! I say go to El Rey, every time! read more

This little Hole-in-the-Wall in Mendota is a gem! The fat man and the old lady are in here once a week. At least. Right on US 34 on the south side of the tracks. Couple doors down from the VFW, on the same side of the boulevard. OK, so you're hungry for tacos. "Beto" makes killer tacos; try his Taco Del Rey, Mexican style on a flour tortilla. Three of these at noon keep the fat man happy until snack time at 10pm. He makes an American style version too, but trust Fats and do the Mexican. I'll tell ya, if these tacos don't put a smile on your face, you'd better check your pulse! Besides Mexican soda pop; (fattys current fav is apple), Beto's horchata is home made; not that out of the bag bug juice you get at the chains. Bettcha didn't know the reason Mexican soda tastes so good? No high fructose corn syrup or aspartame in most of it. Water, sugar, and flavor like it used to be before all the soft drink recipes changed in the early seventies. Viva la old days! They do a brisk take-out biz if you'd like to enjoy a beer with your meal dial 'em up. Beto cooks up a storm right off the dining room, and you can see and smell the kitchen right from your seat. Nothing like ordering a Bistec ala' Mexicana, or Carne Tampiquena and savoring the aroma as it gets grilled up. Like fish? The Tilapia Filete de Pescado ala' plancha or the Mojo de Ajo are awesome..... Try a side of Beto's pico de Gallo, no shortage of lime and cilantro. Our favorite Mexican place in Mendota. Everything I've tried there has been excellent and the prices are great as well as the serving sizes. No alcohol served here but the food is amazing and the waitresses are very sweet and helpful when it comes to trying new things. The caramel cheesecake is to die for but only available on certain nights they even give you a dessert when you eat in! Mouth watering as I type just thinking about there amazing food. I love their pork tacos and their shrimp tacos several meats to choose from same price no matter what meat you choose and you can't beat that! Most places up charge the seafood options but this place does not. Cannot recommend it enough my only wish is that they have delivery available however once the word got out they would need 20 delivery drivers! Yummmmm Will add photos on our next visit. read more

Had 3 different tacos - steak, al pastor and steak with bacon - all were very fresh and delicious! Really inexpensive too. The place was very clean, server was friendly and answered all our questions. Love the corn tortilla option with cilantro and onion. Would have done 5 stars but waited about 25 min for the food. Omg... this place! Doesn't seem like much from the outside BUT this place has amazing food! The Menudo is so delicious. The tampiqueña is perfectly cooked and seasoned! The salsas are delicious and spicy! But by far my favorite is the homemade horchata!!!!! I've been here several times and have yet to be disappointed!!!
