Never have had a problem with this bakery until this year when I placed my Xmas tamale order. The woman taking my order was rude. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and figured she was perhaps having a bad day or perhaps something COVID related (which we're all dealing with). However, the day I went to pick up my order the same employee was there. I showed up an hour early and had to return later for my scheduled pick up time...no problem, I know they're busy and obviously disorganized. But an hour later they are late putting my order together, I had to wait for them and the woman was extremely rude. Unfortunately, her unwarranted behavior cost her a long time customer and future referrals. read more

Stopped in to try their tamales which others raved about- $23.99 a dozen these better be good.. I get home and open it up only to have thick masa - very dry masa and mostly masa than meat.. I'm giving it one star for the pan dulce which was dry as well but satisfied my sweet tooth.. prices are ridiculously high and cashier wasn't friendly at all.. the elderly lady was more talkative than she was.. save your money these tamales are nasty and mostly masa.. there are better tamale places in Whittier- with a much better price.. read more

I pick up some tamales that were dried bearly anything inside of them. So I called expressed my concern about them being dry and I was told by the owner well that how we've been doing them for years. I was asked to bring back they grab the tamales deducted the one I opened and gave me my money. The lady was really rude. She didn't apologize she just brushed me off telling me that I was wrong. How am I wrong when all I was eating was masa. No business owner should give that type of expression to their clients. They should find a solution rather than make it worst. Well if she had offered me some salsa on the side to go with the tamales. It would've made me help the situation but instead she gave me attitude and gave me my money back. This was the second shot I gave them as the first one was that they sold me burnt bread previously and had not come to buy anything during that time for that reason. For me, this is two strikes and you're out. I would not come ever again specially with a person that thinks that they're that good because they've been in business for 20 years. I've been in business for over 20 years and I look to improve on my business every day. I listen to my customers and I make the adjustments so that it doesn't happen again we are not perfect I understand, but we try to make sure that it doesn't happens again. I think if you're in business, do you want people to remember your business in the right way with a taste that will bring more business not just because your stuck in your old ways and continue to get it wrong. read more

I love this bakery! Every type of sweet bread I have tried is super yummy, all the conchas, elotes, cuernos, puerquitos, chocolate cake, empanadas (crema, pumpkin, apple), tortugas, the swirl with sesame on top, bolillos (make a torta with mayo, refried beans, avocado, queso fresco and the juice from picked jalapeños!) and there's one that is my favorite which looks like a plain round bolillo with squares on top, not sure what it's called but it's the best! It's simple but a good sized bread and slightly sweet and THE best for coffee/hot chocolate dunking! And not to mention the tamales! I've tried them all and the chicken (best), beef, pork, and cheese with jalapeños are the all delicious (only wish they used actual rajas de chile verde instead of the pickled jalapeño rounds). Also wish they made tamales de elote, those can only be found at another panadería on Slauson and Norwalk. Try this bread and tamales and you'll keep coming back!! read more

This place is disgusting. I wanted to like this place but there are flys everywhere. Nobody washes there hands or use gloves when they touch the bread. I reported to some lady and she didn't care, she pretty much dismissed it and said leave if I don't like it. This place has a foul odor and smells like chemicals. Like strong nail polish remover or acetone. The workers smell like pot and look under the influence. How is this place still open. My grandma wanted bread and when we got home and tasted it I juts about threw up in my mouth it tasted like chemicals like they were baking bread while they were cleaning with chemicals or smoking something that was blown into the bread. The smell made my house smell so bad with chemicals that we had to air the house out for 2 days. I don't know what goes on in there but I would stay away if u don't wanna get sick off chemical bread. This place smells like if someone was to go buy some type of drugs not pastries or bread. Good thing my grandma didn't touch that chemical bread. I still have the smell in my granny house. The smell is awful like some burnt drugs. I called to complain 3 times and was hung up each time the blocked. The lady or owner whoever she is has no common sense and runs that place like shit. Maybe she on drugs or the illegal workers there. I juts wanted a refund for the chemical bread and I got blocked. Well keep my $10 bucks and pay some legal workers. If there were "0" stars, that'd be my rating. Was a Patron for at least 10+ years and today that ended. Tried to see if I could order some tamales and the person who answered was very abrupt and says "no, we do not take phone orders" as I told her I called 3 days ago to express my interest in ordering & just wanted a return phone call to let me know one way or the other. Told me they didn't take phone orders. All I asked was the decency of having someone call me back after leaving a message. They could've easily told me they don't take phone orders nor are they accepting any more orders for the holidays (and by the way, I've always called them and ordered over the phone for pickup & it's never been a problem... literally for YEARS & never a problem). Instead, I got treated very rudely, the lady talking over me & then she hung up on me. Please do not support this place. I'm sad to have to leave my solid patronage of this place but also sad I was treated so horribly. I will take my business elsewhere. read more

Bread is great. Stays soft even after a couple of days--which is uncommon for pan dulce. They're tamales are the primary reason I come back. They sell out fast though, you'll be lucky to get some chicken tamales before 8 am! If only they took phone orders. read more

Bakery was clean and organized despite it almost being closing time. I got about 10 panes and it came out to about 9 dollars. I thought it was fairly priced considering the quality and size of the pan. I really like that there was a lot of parking and how easy it was to get into the shopping center that its in. Great family run Mexican bakery. So this is probably my first time buying mexican sweet bread/pastries (although not my first time eating it), but I had no clue what I was grabbing nor if they tasted good. I had to buy some for an office luncheon. All of the pastries I grabbed tasted great, although some were a bit on the sweeter side, everyone at my office still enjoyed them. I especially liked the custard filled ones, so good. And everything was so cheap! Only about .60 cents for each pastry. I grabbed a whole box and it was only about $15 dollars. I wish I read the Yelp reviews earlier about all the tamales, and I was wondering why the guy before me was ordering chicken tamales so early at 9AM in the morning, so I definitely need to come back for those. read more

For some reason, good Mexican sweet bread is hard to find. Well we found this bakery and drive from West Covina. Out of five stars I would give it a four. Only because their conchas are very dense. We got used to another bakery whose conchas were light and airy. Yum!! Unfortunately that bakery closed down. I'm not bashing this bakery. I've only had the pan dulce. Officially lost my business today. I placed an order yesterday for 2 dozen Jalapeños cheese rolls because 1. I know they go fast 2. I needed them for a family gathering I was on my way to get to pick up for 9a today called because it just turned 9a and I was down the street I was thinking to myself crap I'm a few mins late what if they think I'm not coming and start handing them out lol... well when I called to let them know I was down the street not only did she respond very rude and was like what? Basically, what are you talking about she tells me oh hold on let me check her name was Ana by the way and stated she was the owner later in our conversation she tells me they are not ready I was like ok cool do you know how much longer.... she tells me maybe not for an hour! OK I placed my order in advance she had it placed for 9am couldn't call me or even let me know hey we are behind whatever the reason knowing the order was placed in advanced instead continued to be rude and tell me there's nothing she can do... I mean if she wasn't rude about it I was already there I would just picked up pan dulce and just moved on with my life. I love small businesses and understand the world is a hot mess right now but customers deserve the same respect too. This little bakery has the most humble people making the bread. This morning they saw a homeless man walking in the shopping center that they are located at and they gave him a bag of freshly made pan dulce. Nice and warm. It pains me to write this because the lady who helped me was very nice. I will preface by saying majority of my co-workers did enjoy the tamales. I, however, did not. I was in a pinch because my usual tamale lady was on vacation so I decided to give this place a try. The tamales at this bakery are basically ALL masa, very little meat or cheese. The moment the tamale cools off, the masa just falls apart because it's SO dry! I guess I prefer the thinner, moist tamales. What broke the camel's back?? THE PRICE!
