Just tried Los Angeles Video Transfer Service and was very pleased with my experience! I initially called and spoke with Dakota, who confirmed they could do what I was looking to do (dvd to their cloud). He told me the price, I drove over, signed an estimate, and they turned everything around more quickly than promised! Dakota was communicative, transparent, and helpful. My family has a TON of home video VHS tapes so we will definitely be coming back here to get those taken care of. *parking is inside the gate, or out on the street! read more

I found this little gem on yelp and was looking to get some video cassettes transferred. My father passed away when I was young and being able to see and hear him again was priceless. The staff was very helpful and honest with how the process goes and also a lot of my cassettes had mold damage because I didn't take good care of them. Anyway they did an amazing job and definitely recommend this place ! read more

These guys are top notch and very professional. They responded to my initial inquiry immediately and their continued communications throughout the process were always prompt. I had several different formats of professional videotapes that I needed to convert to a file format. Some of the tapes had been in a closet for three decades. I was given an estimate of a week and they turned the project in 48 hours. The price was competitive with other transfer facilities and the service was great. I highly recommend LAVT. read more

Such nice people, very good service. Keep their word. Reasonable prices for a lot of work. Great job!

I meant to write a glowing review the last time I used LAVT but somehow dropped the ball - well, they just completed a new project for me so here it is! LAVT are absolutely top notch on every count - communication, attention to detail, fair pricing, and above all quality of work. They have scanned photos, slides, and old Super 8 family movies for me and provided quality digital files; and they have made new digital copies of video from truly outdated and obscure sources (not just VHS, but now defunct professional grade "tapes" dating back to the 1990's - I am blanking on what they are called at the moment). They have also done special projects for me, including music editing when I decided to add soundtracks to my Super 8's - that was a bit more elaborate, but only because of the number of music cues that I provided with detailed notes. They also pressed a small run of blu rays for me for a fun video project, complete with pro-quality labels. Cristian is super-knowledgable on all things AV and then some: his explanations can get "technical" but he really knows his stuff! I could go on but all in all, LAVT gets my highest recommendation. read more

Have come to these guys several times throughout the past couple years when I find tapes during cleaning sessions that I can't convert myself. They are very kind and approachable, as well as fast (usually 2-4 days) and accommodating, offering various formats for the end result. Might be best to wait till you have a decent batch as you do get a bigger discount with a bigger load, but the prices are fair individually as well. read more

Great pricing, quick and expert service, very professional team. Would definitely use again. A+

Excellent!!! They transferred an old VHS tape to digital for me. It was completed on time.

While cleaning out the garage, I found 10 VHS tapes from the 90's and immediately knew I had to come back to get them digitally converted. While looking at each tape, Dakota noticed that there was a significant amount of dust and mold (!) in majority of the tapes and would need to charge an extra fee to clean them, but no guarantee they would need to be converted if they could not be cleaned. FORTUNATELY, they were able to get cleaned and converted in only a few days. Needless to say, family members were brought to tears watching these priceless memories. read more

Wonderful service and communication! They gave us confidence in fixing our old VHS tape that ripped while it was being played on our VCR for the first time in a long time. It cost $25 to fix the ripped tape, which can be done quickly and the same day, but they found mold in our tape, so it cost an additional $50 to remove the mold overnight. When we brought the tape home to play, it was perfect. Thank you so much for restoring such previous memories for us! read more

I approached the team at Los Angeles Video Transfer Service with a box of 50+ 3" 8mm reels and another 50+ film slides that had belonged to my late grandparents. I came into possession of these ~70 year old family videos and photographs at Thanksgiving and was praying I could accomplish something useful with them by the time my family reconvened at Christmas. I met with Cristian and told him I had been entrusted with the only surviving footage of my grandparents and my uncles in their youth and that I did not want to be remembered as the family member who mishandled them. He did a quick visual sampling of the reels to assess their condition and was thorough in setting expectations and explaining my options (which included comparisons of sample work on the wall monitor and a much-appreciated, and very patient, translation of all relevant technical considerations so that a layperson like myself could understand). I had done enough research to feel confident I was getting competitive pricing and would avoid outright disaster but I could not have hoped for a better outcome than what the team at Los Angeles Video Transfer Service produced. I was given a realistic pricing estimate and timeline that they held themselves accountable to. They voluntarily checked in with me during the process and, per their suggestion, they received an amazon-shipped hard drive to preempt the media transfer which was especially convenient given where I am located and the scale of the data involved. To anyone contemplating a similar project, I adamantly endorse Los Angeles Video Transfer Service. Handing one-of-one, fragile physical media family heirlooms over to someone was a stressful proposition but this team clearly knew what they were doing and they respected what was personally at stake. My flammable box of war-time South Pacific wedding photos and post-war home videos is now safely preserved on a hard drive and personal cloud and has been edited and distributed to the entire family for future enjoyment. I am grateful for what they made possible. read more

This is the company that you want to trust with your old tapes. I have been in the professional video world for 30 years and I can't express how happy I was to find a small boutique shop with people who know what they are doing, they are quick and easy to work with and they are friendly! Best part - their prices are lower than any company I've ever used. I will make the trek to Pasadena for their services - they are well worth it!!! I would, however, suggest you call first or go to their website to make sure that they have the ability to work with the format you have. I found out that they do not have a 1" video tape machine. So, sadly, I have to go elsewhere for just that. Christian, who usually works the front, is super cool, smart and can handle any job! read more

If there is one word to describe this place, it would be GENUINE L.A. Video Transfer is one of the few businesses in where I can say that they stand by their work and honestly care about the customer's satisfaction. I've recently stumbled upon a bunch of old family tapes and requested about 10 VHS tapes to be converted digitally and was looking for a video transfer service that was local rather than a mail in service as I prefer the face to face interactions, especially with projects like these. Cristian was the first person I spoke to getting this project started and he was very informative in explaining the entire process and provided me with various options in terms of how I want to go about it! He recommended that I get my tapes in QuickTime files as they are best suited for editing and will maintain as much of the tapes' data as possible. Suffice to say, this should have sounded like an any other job, however, these conversions proved more challenging than I originally anticipated. There were numerous issues with the state of the tapes (old and edited many times by my uncle) and conversion from static lines, darkened scenes, and pixelization from the transfer to file process that showed up on file compared to when I watched them on my VCR or when they saw it on their own screen. After the first conversion, I brought these issues to the their attention and this is where they really shined! Justin was extremely helpful and assured me that he and Dakota would do what they can to address the issues whether it is running the tapes through different machines to acquire different results as well as color correcting certain scenes to better match the VHS. In order to assist them with this, I did my best on my end to watch every video as well as timestamp and note every issue on each one to ensure they are provided all the information of everything that needed to be looked at in depth. Overall, this process took about 2-3 runs on most of the tapes and the end result is honestly top quality. This place definitely listens to your concerns and will do their absolute best in ensuring that you are happy with the end result! While my situation might not be reflective of most peoples' situations, I do advise in exercising patience in getting your media converted as I now have a better understanding of just how difficult and time consuming all of this can be especially after reviewing the footage multiple times myself! While there is so much more I have to say, I am very grateful to the team at L.A. Video Transfer at delivering excellent service and customer satisfaction. I will definitely seek their service in the future and recommend others as well! read more

I found some old CD's that I wanted to transfer to a flash drive for easy listening. I had no idea how the audio files were formatted or what precisely was on them, but LAVTS got the job done quickly and efficiently while explaining the process since I don't know much about this stuff. The end product was exactly what I was hoping for. The gentleman at the front desk told me they had to try a couple of times to rip the CD, and they still honored the price I was quoted originally. Honest and professional business people who know their craft. Thanks! read more

I wanted to transfer some old VHS tapes to a more modern format of viewing. It was hard to find a location that I could take these tapes into and drop off myself. I know there are many companies that have you ship the tapes and other old forms of photos/videos but I just couldn't get myself to take the risk of mailing these precious memories. I came across the Los Angeles video transfer service and read great reviews. I figured it was worth the try considering I wouldn't have to be afraid of losing anything in the mail. I drove down with my tapes and was assisted promptly by a kind gentlemen who was able to initiate the process, give me a quote, as well as approximate time of completion. I was so impressed by how quickly they completed the transfer and at a very reasonable price. My VHS tapes are now on a USB drive that I can download and save onto any computer. I'm thankful for the team here and my wonderfully preserved memories!! Will definitely be sharing with friends looking to do these transfers read more

I have transferred quite a few home videos with them here and they have always been so transparent and wonderful with the process! They are quick with their transfers, Honest about the quality of the video and take excellent care of the videos! They also have offered to repair and clean some of the tapes i've brought in, and while it does cost a bit extra, It is worth it to be able to preserve these old tapes. They mean a lot to us and as we have continued to work with them, They have been careful with our memories. Would recommend coming here if you're looking for some transfers! read more

Incredible service! Your one-stop-shop. I brought them the gamut --- 8mm film, VHS, audio tapes, slides.....they digitized everything without a hitch. They provided me a quote up front, which was much appreciated. It changed a bit based on what I actually brought them, but they were always honest about how the fee would change. I'm very familiar with digital media as it's part of my job, so I didn't need much in the way of explaining when it comes to how my media would come to me, but, that said, they explained the process and the results perfectly. So very helpful. They worked with me on the deliverables, whether or not I wanted my slides color-corrected, if I wanted my film scanned a certain way, etc. etc. etc. And when there was video of a .....~questionable~.... nature (I think you know what I mean, right??) they were so professional. They called me, gently explained the situation, and separated the file for me. Plus they noted the physical reel so I could make sure I could put it in a separate place from the rest. They told me I could ship them a hard drive with my name on it for my media.....I ended up just bringing them one physically. Worked great. But I know they'll sell you one too! It was a such a great experience, I am bringing back more in the new year, for sure. read more

The best (any only) transfer service to which I'll ever entrust my precious family memories. I love these guys! My experience in restoring old Super 8 videos was fantastic in every respect. You really DO get what you pay for. My family legacy is safe and sound now! read more

Christian was so awesome. He safely and successfully digitized 4 old VHS and Hi8 tapes for me. The tapes are the only videos I have of my children; my oldest died last month and I've felt so lost in my grief. Finding these videos and having them handled with such compassion meant so much to me. Eventually I'm planning on having them digitize old film negatives. I totally recommend these guys! read more

Amazing service and attention to detail! They were great with the turnaround time! Did a lot of research to make sure my tape was in the right hands since it's my parents wedding tape and their only copy! Always friendly, fast and excellent service. Highly recommend this company for all their expertise and great pricing!

I am very glad I found this place! I found an old VHS tape of when my father was on a Spanish-language talk/variety show in the late 80's stashed away in the catacombs of my parents house...never to be seen again. Or so I thought! It occurred to me to have it converted into dvd and digital files for our family viewing pleasure. I found LA Video Transfer Service here on Yelp after I tried another one. The first place was not going to do it in a timely manner and if I did want it in a timely manner, I could drop it off in Tarzana. Yeah...thanks, but no thanks. I called LA Video Transfer Service and spoke to Christian over the phone and he assured me it would be done in 1 business day. I showed up to their location to drop off the tape and a day later, my precious video was done! Pricing is very fair, in my opinion. I wouldn't mind converting many more VHS tapes with that pricing and with this level of service. Thanks again, LAVTS! read more

Cristian is great. When I found a box of old 8mm, mini-dvs and other antiquated video recording media, I'm thinking, "this is gonna cost a fortune to transfer and it's probably all shit"... there was no way to even view it, let alone know what to transfer. He had several suggestions and did his best to appraise whether this was junk that no one would want or cool video of me and friends and family from 30 to 40 years ago. He sent samples from the beginning of each reel/tape/loose piece of film so I could see what was on the beginning of each one and then we had another discussion and proceeded in a way that didn't break the bank. All via UPS and email. You just can't take that approach with a transfer place that always has someone else answering the phone and doing the work. There was a continuity and sympatico and confidence. read more

Transferred lots of vhs tapes to a portable hard drive and am very happy with the results. Nice people to help you out.

They digitized a PAL VHS tape for me and the transfer was great for a 30+ year old tape. I interacted with Dakota several times as he updated me throughout the process and everything went smoothly. Great service, would come back and will recommend to others! Thank you! read more

Last December, I brought in a Betacam SP tape and about 15 reels of 16mm film, all about twenty years old. These guys did a fantastic job with converting it to Apple ProRes 422. It was great to see my old films from college in a format where I could easily edit them on my Mac. Christian was extremely professional, and the price was right. Yesterday, I just dropped off 4 more reels of 16mm film to get them transferred. I highly recommend this company if you need any video or film footage converted! read more

From the moment I walked through the door, Cristian put me at ease and carefully explained the process of transferring my cassettes and DVDs to a format that will ensure their preservation. I got one batch converted and then found out I had another stack of DVDs that needed conversion too. Cristian, Justin and Dakota all treated the job with a sensitivity that these are precious memories I am converting to ensure my family that follows long after I am gone can enjoy them. Everyone I worked with was professional, friendly and eager to get the job done right. It is a great relief to know that they are there to preserve our family's history. I can't recommend them highly enough, they are the best! read more

Excellent customer service: efficient, friendly, courteous, professional. I've brought a variety of family and personal media to be digitized: Super 8 film reels, slides, photos, vinyl records, and audio cassettes, and had nothing but a top-notch experience with each. I particularly appreciate Cristian's willingness and ability to break down the digital media types, options, and costs to help me decide what to do--or whether it's worth it to professionally digitize at all. I've been coming here for years and they've transferred just about every format of video to digital for me - VHS, Betamax, Hi8, U-matic, Digibeta, D-2, and most recently, 16mm film. I can't say enough good things about this place! From start to finish, they were professional and very competitively priced. I started with a quote based on my best estimate of the number of photos I had plus VHS tapes, CDs, etc. The price was about $400 cheaper than the next best option. I dropped off my photos, and they were able to meet my 2 1/2 week deadline. The finished the job early, adjusted the quote based on the final count of what I had, and the scans are just perfect. Everything looks great and is sized right and organized just like I asked. Highly highly recommended!! read more

Excellent service. They transferred a vinyl LP into a digital format, including separating the tracks manually (since the LP format doesn't have that feature). Short turn-around. Not cheap, but reasonable prices. COVID-safe drop off and pick up. read more

Not only is the quality of work outstanding, so is the customer service. I had photos digitized from 30-year-old negatives and because of the service, went back to have old home movies digitized. One of the videos included my mom telling her life story 13 years ago. I told the employee, Christian, that my mom passed away two years ago and this was the most important video of the bunch. He made sure to test the video with different machines to get the best quality. I now have invaluable memories I'm able to access on my phone. read more

The best in town. Thorough, careful, and efficient. This is the third and final place I will take my old 16mm and Super-8 reels to have them transferred to DVD.
