I had several old style VHS video tapes and some were commercial grade from interviews I had done on TV. I tried to get them converted to CD's but for some reason there was always in issue transferring them. I found this place after poking around on Google. I took them in and they said "no problem." I was not in any rush for them, a couple of weeks later they called me back, they were finished. I would recommend the company to anyone that needs things digitized. Awesome service! Needed a VHS tape transferred to a DVD as a Mother's Day present. Being a total procrastinator, I waited until the day before to go in. I was greeted immediately - the man that worked there was incredibly nice. Told me that typically that service would take a week, but he would get started right away and try for same day, Monday at the latest. Wasn't even an hour later that I got the call to come pick it up. Granted, there was only about 4 minutes of footage, but I appreciated such quick service and attention. Originally quoted 30-40$ but since it was so short, he only charged $20! We looked over the footage and was amazed to find several clips I had never seen before on the VHS! I was out of town & needed some short video clips edited & formatted quickly for a web page. I was directed by some local media firms to check with Storytellers, & I'm glad I did. Katrina & Larry got me exactly what I needed & I had it the same day via email. Very friendly people & excellent customer service, with an extremely affordable price, way less than I was expecting. Only paid around $20 for what I thought was going to cost me closer to $100+. Then I had some minor formatting changes I needed a couple months later & once again they came thru for me quickly, via email, & sent me the resized video files back with no payment required. I had an old Beta tape and no way to play it. I searched for a way to transfer it to DVD and was not comfortable about sending in my one & only Tape via mail to one of the chains. Yelp has been pretty spot on with legit recommendations and Yelpsters scored me a great place yet again. Storytellers prices were fair and they dubbed the tape in a few days. The reviews on this place are slightly/massively outdated. This place took over 1 week to digitize a 2 minute audio cassette. When I finally went in to just pick up my tape to take it elsewhere it smelled like the inside of an ashtray in there or like my college dorm room. I was told I was contacted 4 days prior (said contact never happened). When I dropped it off 8 days before that I asked how much it would cost and the gentleman looked it up and told me it was slightly over $1 per minute. I was charged almost $12 for a minute and a half of audio tape conversion. This person told me there is a minimum of $10, something that was not conveyed to me when I dropped it off. Lesson learned here and I'm extending my displeasure with this place to y'all. They may be good at other things but communication/professionalism is not one of them. read more

I first went to a production company just down the street from Storyteller and they told me they couldn't make me any guarantees on getting my VHS tapes copied over to DVDs in time for Christmas. It was about 10 days before Christmas so I totally understood. But I decided to make the walk down to Storyteller and am so glad I did! Storyteller told me absolutely - that their team was working over time right now due to holidays and that I was not the only one that was crafting special christmas presents for their family. They took 8 VHS tapes and copied them all over. They were fast and affordable. A pleasure to work with and am so glad I took the time to walk down the block. I went to Storyteller for a pretty big project. My grandfather is turning 90 and we were holding a big party in his honor. I wanted a video to show at the party that brought together all of our old family photos, videos, and personalities to show at the party. It was a really hands on project and the Storyteller staff did not disappoint! There were over a hundred photos that they scanned, corrected, and cropped. Also, the scoured through tons of family videos and pulled just the write moments. The whole production was set to music that hit just the right tone for our event. It was funny, nostalgic, and heart-breaking. It was worth every penny to create such beautiful memories. I transfered my parents wedding film to Dvd for their anniversary. I had been looking for a place that didn't need to send my valuable film to somewhere back east. This place did everything in house which was a plus. Everyone was very friendly and the process was quick. Only issue is it was pretty expensive for just a transfer and then DVD has no menu so it just starts right away. I thought it would have some sort of title page or something. I would go to them again just because I trust with with my film but it is expensive. read more

A friend and I walked into the store, without an appointment and we asked the owner Dave some questions about saving voicemails on my friend's phone. Those vm's were from her husband who just passed away. Dave was kind enough to stop what he was doing and took 20 minutes to work on different options. I took 40 years worth of home movies and had Storyteller transfer them to DVD's. They did an outstanding job at a very affordable price. I did a lot of searching before I found Storyteller Prods. I couldn't find anyone in OC or LA to provide this service at anything that was even close to affordable. I did find a couple of places on-line, but I couldn't phathom sending my precious home movies through the mail to a stranger. I ordered a color printing on a demo CD i'd made based on a mock-up i'd drawn on my home computer. I gave the mock-up and the CD to them on Tuesday at about 5, and they said they'd call me when it was finished. I hadn't gotten a call by 1pm on Wednesday, so I called them and the CD had been ready for pick-up. When I got there, my name on the CD had been misspelled and the copy wasn't as I had it on the mock-up. The guy apologized assured me he'd fix the problem, then printed me a new one. He did not, however, fix the problem, and my name was STILL misspelled the second time, although the copy was corrected. He printed it a THIRD time and finally got it right, then still charged me for the CD. In retrospect I should have refused to pay, but I'm a wussy, so there you go. I asked him when the original CD had been finished, and he told me it had been done on Tuesday evening and had "meant" to call me Wednesday morning to tell me it was ready, but he just "spaced." granted, my order was only $3.24, no no big monetary loss here, but I'd rethink coming here again. They specialize in special event DVD production (weddings, funerals, etc), so maybe make triple sure they have all your information correct, since they obviously don't double-check their work. read more

My mother took a VSH tape to be transfered to a DVD. The tape was an old family 8mm home movies, needless to say priceless. They told her it would take two weeks. Well, after two weeks and not hearing from them, mom called, and was told it was not ready and to call back next week, which she did and was told again 'not ready, call next week'. So, mom calls again, this time she is told it is ready for pick-up,... tomorrow. OK, at least its ready, right? NOT! Mom goes to pick up the DVD, and its not ready! (Wasting my mothers time!). She is told, once again, it will be ready next week. (At this point mom took back her original copy). She returns next week, the DVD is ready, but viewing the first few minutes in the store she realizes the music overlay is missing! Mom-"Where is the music? I'm not paying for this." They apologized, and offerd the DVD at half price, which mom accepted just to have a digital copy. Well, we view the DVD at home. I immediately can see pixels in the DVD! (I thought the quality was supposed to go up, not down!). So, the video is pixelated, the music missing (music also missing on the VSH?[how they do that?!]), and after five minutes the DVD began jumping, and didn't stop till the 22 min mark. They sold us a video that was completely unwatchable! Even at a 50% mark down, they sould NOT have sold that DVD to my mother!! And that's why I had to take my time to write this review. read more

I brought in a very large number of family videos and photos taken over many years on a variety of media types, ranging from VHS, 8mm, 16mm, Super 8, Beta and asked Storyteller to digitize it all, and then produce a video for my Grandfathers 80th birthday. This required tranferring, retouching, digitizing, editing and adding a voiceover and a soundtrack. Frankly, I was worried that such a small shop would be able to handle the whole project from start to finish on a timeline that would work, at a price that I could afford. But my worries were unfounded. They finished the whole thing on time and on-budget. How many times does THAT happen! I was super-impressed with this small neighborhood video shop! read more

Storyteller Productions recently created a video montage for my son's wedding rehearsal dinner. It was fabulous and was the hit of the evening! I brought them the pictures and the music but David then worked his magic to turn it into a 12 minute video highlighting the lives of my son and future daughter-in-law. Everyone loved it and I was able to provide Blue Ray discs and flash drives to the happy couple and parents of the bride to share with some special family members who couldn't attend the event. The discs and flash drives were all provided by Storyteller. I even requested and received a copy of the scanned photos that I then put into a photo album of the special evening.
