I am re-reviewing this place after Yelp removed my previous review because it was "heresay". I am a video production professional with over 20 years of experience and have worked with video duplication houses throughout these years. I personally hand-delivered and viewed the work of this duplication house for several months as I used them to duplicate betacam tape to both DVCAM and DVD. I brought approximately 8 jobs to them and over half of them they did incorrectly and I had to return and have them do it over again. For example, no audio on a duplication of a concert! The final error on their part resulted in the missing of an on-air deadline and that resulted in the end of my relationship with this business. This was my personal experience and is not "heresay". It is my professional opinion that this business, which performed less than half of the duplication jobs I requested correctly, is incompetent and I would not recommend them. read more

Film students stay away!!!!!!! Only because zero wasn't an option!! Myself and several other USC grads used these guys for DVD encoding and replication. We paid the exorbitant prices because we wanted a professional finish. Not only did we not get that but we got nickeled and dimed every step of the way. The most displeasing part of the process was the artwork on the DVD case - I did not agree on the artistic choices they made, and when I did not approve the proofs they basically said, "take it or leave it". So, I left it. I chose instead to have a simple text-on-white for my cover, rather than their cheesy visual depiction of my movie. AND, they had the audacity to charge me full price for it anyway!! The guy said the covers are the same price whether they are full color or B&W. Save yourselves the money, and go to a house that respects smaller projects. read more

These guys are amazing!! I met the owner at the Farmer's Market and started to talk about a project. I make independent films for a living. He was ever so kind to connect me to the rest of the guys at the office and gave me a great deal and got a crazy 24 hour turnaround on a project. I was headed to sxsw for a screening and they literally saved my ass. Talk about being in the right place at the right time. I'll be doing a lot more business with them. They are awesome. read more

Santa Monica Video make duplications of media like digibeta tapes or DVDs and they can be a vault for you as well with your media, on their website is a list of their services. I'm sure others may have had a better time with them but I brought them three HD DVCPRO tapes to capture and put on an external hard drive. The second tape they stopped the capture too soon and it wasnt discovered until we were in editing. So we had to have them recapture the part they messed up which took another day and they didnt even seem to care that they made a mistake. There are other places in the area that do the same thing which i will try, they can't be any worse then Santa Monica Video read more

Completely ruined my project that was under a deadline. I gave easy specific instructions for a video to transfer, and their totally incompetent staff didn't even read the instructions. I was forced to present a low quality copy that looked very unprofessional. There was no help in resolving the issue, and the damage was done. This place doesn't understand the meaning of "follow up". They will never call you or remind you about your order, you must constantly hassle them to get important information regarding your order. There are also a TON of hidden charges that will not be included in your initial Invoice. Basically, they will charge you for breathing the air near their company. You have to deal with a billion people to get one simple question answered. It sort of a circus act there. I don't know how they treat their bigger clients but if you are a small-timer expect to have your project fall through the cracks. Furthermore, The Better Business Bureau has given them a "D" rating, which by their standards equates to: "practice extreme caution when dealing with this merchant". I wish I had seen that prior to using them for my DVD needs. read more

I went to SMV to transfer my short film from Beta SP to a .MOV so I could stream it online. The first transfer had ugly lines running through it, which is typical of a transfer from analog to digital. They agreed it wasn't ideal, and they thought they could use some of their tricks to make it better, but they let me take it at half price because I needed something up right away. Then, they were willing to work on the transfer again to make sure that I received the best product possible, and when they were able to produce a spotless transfer, they gave it to me free of charge because they felt bad that it wasn't perfect the first time. Wow! A phenomenal product for half the price! I was incredibly grateful! Jeff worked with me, and I was impressed that even though my job was small, he took his time with it and made sure I received a great product. Thank you so much Jeff & SMV! read more
