I love a real good old-school Bronx slice. I also love getting Eggplant Parms from pizza joints. My friend Pat F. raved about their thinly sliced eggplant in their Calzone. Since I'm a fan of thinly cut eggplant as well, you know I had to stop here. Nothing I detest more than unsightly, thick-cut eggplant. I won't eat it. If it's in an eggplant sandwich, it's gotta be thin. Eggplant Parm dish? Thin too. Get my drift? Located on residential Layton Ave in the Schuylerville section of The BX, Loretta's is more than just pizza. The space has adequate indoor seating, counter and part of their kitchen behind it. Although I can't speak about their entire menu- it does look good. And while you're not getting the super-famous Neopolitan blistered pies here- you'll get is a nice golden look to it. As was the case with their Eggplant Calzone I picked up on my visit. The dough has a light crunch- but a wonderful give. The eggplant is the stuff of my dreams: cut super thin and lightly breaded. The sauce was enough, wasn't over-seasoned, nor was there any sauce spillage. It was tasty for sure. What I did miss was the ricotta- I enjoyed my calzone though. Unusual? Yes. Eggplant Calzone?!? For those who know me, I'm not big on pizza. To me it has to have a perfect bite in taste and flavor. Loretta's Pizza was the decided option for delivery and I didn't care and had no interest in the ordering process. When the order arrived included was an Eggplant Parm Calzone. I love an Eggplant dish, so I'll try it. Loretta's Calzone is not the typical pizza dough gut buster, stuffed and oozing with ricotta plus mozzarella cheese. It's the total opposite. What we received was thin crisp eggplant, covered in a thin portion of mozzarella, a veil of flavorful sauce all wrapped in thin crisp and chewy pie crust. The ratios were on point! Not sure if this was a way to save on product preparation, you know 'cause of Covid. Either way, I hope they remain consistent as consistency is so fleeting these days. Loretta's, I must say this has been my best tasting encounter with a non-traditional Eggplant Calzone. Adding the word 'Parm' to your dish is a part of what makes the difference. I placed an order for pickup and they said 25 minutes, no problem. I arrive early as I was coming home from work so I figured I'd park, come in, pay and wait. I ordered 2 large cheese pizza's for a party, resulted to total embarrassment. The party even expressed their displeasure of the pizza. The pizza was dry very little sauce to be classified as a pizza. I use Door dash for delivery. Including the time of the dasher picked up pizza from Loretta's pizza for delivery, is indicative of either saving cost or sloppy preparation. I selected this placed based on a 4.9 rating on DoorDash website. I do not recommend this place for delivery. Perhaps a pickup would result to a delicious pizza. read more

Grubhub forced me to put cheese on my chicken francese sandwich. Which as you might suspect, doesn't taste good. It also forces you pay for it, choosing between: 1) American cheese for $1 2) Mozzarella cheese for $1 & 3) Fresh mozzarella for $2 Yes... for a dollar more, you have the option of not eating not-so-fresh cheese. Again, cheese you didn't want in the first place. This is worse than the time when classes made me buy textbooks. Or that time when the MTA raised their fare and there's no construction in sight. My brother used to go to school in Country Club and would grab a slice here before I would go pick him up. It wasn't until recently I tried Loretta's for myself. Loretta's serves pretty decent pizza - I tried their plain and pepperoni which were both good. They use cornmeal in their crust which adds a bit of texture and makes it stands out among other pizza places. I will say though it was a little thick for my taste - I like my pizza crust thin and well done, but the taste and quality of the ingredients were up there with true New York pizza. I won't go out of my way to get pizza from here since there are pizzerias closer to me, but for a neighborhood spot it serves its purpose. read more

Ordered from Loretta's on Grubhub last night. I had an order of buffalo wings and the chicken parm calzone. I was able to request for the buffalo wings to be hot, even though that wasn't an option online. They were actually really good - and very HOT. The chicken parm calzone was good, but I have definitely had better. Overall, the food came really fast - even though the wait said it would take over an hour online (Thank God.) The only reason I am giving them two stars instead of three is because of how rude the delivery driver was to me on the phone. After I placed my order online, I spoke to one of the owners in the pizzeria and told her to have the delivery guy call when he was outside because I live in the basement apartment and it is easier for me to meet him out front. When he arrived, he called me and shouted into the phone with an attitude, "WHERE ARE YOU - I'M HERE." It was the first time he called me - so there was no way of me to know that. So I asked in surprise of the tone of his voice, "OK - you're outside?" and he rudely shouted loudly again - "YES, I'M HERE COME OUT." Then he just hung up. I was very disappointed by the way he treated me and felt attacked. Great service, pizza was exactly what I was on to mood for, ranch chicken pizza and a simple slice are we're just right. Hubby liked the bbq chicken not crazy about and garlic knots expected better, but the slices are perfect size and just the right amount of cheese. Everyone has their preference. One thing this place does have is amazing customer service from the young lady taking our order to A gentlemen that came by and made sure were fine sitting outside and waiting and also provided us with 10% off next order. Also generously priced 3 large slices and garlic knots with drinks for only 20 bucks !!! The pizza is great, but recently the service has been subpar. We requested marinara sauce with our order, and even though it was listed on the receipt we were provided ranch dressing instead (this is a second occurrence). Also, even though customers are required to wear masks, many of those working/hanging out at this establishment do not wear them. We're going to take a break from buying here for awhile. read more

While I wouldn't normally give a greasy pizza place a 5-star review, this place delivered (literally)! I wasn't expecting much, but I was digging around for a decent place with gluten free options since my friend has a rather severe allergy to gluten. Loretta's had pretty good reviews and we were in the mood for pizza. Damn though, it exceeded expectations. We had the gluten free pizza with pepperoni and the gluten free ziti with meat sauce delivered. I normally don't look forward to gluten free food, for obvious reasons. It tends to fall flat more often than not, but I also prefer when my friends aren't vomiting. That said, I would eat this gluten free pizza and pasta 1,000 times over. They were both comparable to "real" food and the ziti was excellent. As someone who has eaten gluten free pasta far more often than I would like, I was delighted? Astounded?
