I had hopes for this place but was slightly disappointed. I had the Margherita and Pumpkin pies for take out. Both our pies were way burnt and the prosciutto on the Pumpkin tasted like it was well past its best date. If you're looking for a cheap happy hour with food this probably isn't the best place because the portions are quite small and expensive. But the quality is SO good. Their veggie pie is everything I think a pie should be (based on my extensive experience watching the Great British Bake-off- "beautiful layers, excellent flavor, and no soggy bottom!"), but it was pretty small. Loving this fun spot new to the Burgh! It's definitely very creative with great options for wine, cocktails, and beer. Most of the beer is imported from Europe but they did have some local options on the list. The mixologist is so enthusiastic about the drinks and allowed me to sample an ingredient before ordering the drink. If the windows could be opened in the beer hall this place would perfection during the summer months. I shared the pretzel with mustard and cheese and it was really delicious, can't wait to check out more of their menu. read more

I'm a huge fan of Hidden Harbor in Sq Hill and when I found out the same people were opening Lorelei I knew it would be awesome. Lorelei offers a wide variety of beer, wine, specialty cocktail and food options. I ordered the Friesling and i think the name of the other drink was jack rose or something like that and I LOVED both drinks. I will def be back again to explore more of the menu and try some of the snacks. If I have to say one thing about these 2 businesses it would be that you can tell they take pride in their craft and hire people with the same values. read more

The best beer list in Pittsburgh. The beer hall balances a small selection of the very-best local brews (like Dancing Gnome, Roundabout, and Brew Gentlemen) with an extraordinary rotating selection of European lagers (and ales). I'm all for the endless experimentalism of American breweries, but I'm equally enamored with the sometimes 500+ years of brewing experience, excellence, and consistency of European beer-making. I love a good penicillin and the bar tender made an excellent!!!!! Penicillin. The drink was made to perfection with the Smoky flavor I love with the hint of lemon. I understand the appeal but it creates an unnecessary exclusivity which isn't needed because the place is already appealing. Four of us came here tonight looking for good beer. Lorelei does have some interesting brews on tap, but no descriptions to be found. The restaurant is almost painfully loud and we decided to leave after one beer. In addition whatever cleaner they're using smells so strongly it's hard to enjoy the beer. This place just opened, and I knew I had to try it out. I visited the cocktail side, but the beer hall side looks great too! The cocktail side has great-tasting drinks with unique European liquors and tasty small plates. I ordered the raclette-- excellent! The bar staff was extremely friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. I will definitely be making a return visit. Can't wait to see what more is offered once they have their grand opening in a week! read more

Had the pleasure of meeting a friend at Lorelei for drinks and a bite to eat. The concept is great with a space to match...large, open area with floor to ceiling (almost) windows that create an open, airy feel inside.The drinks were perfection...visually beautiful and delicious. I had the (room temperature) mushroom tart w/ cornmeal crust, which was like a mushroom consommé turned into a panna cotta-like texture with perfectly cooked mushrooms, watercress, and orange nasturtiums on top. Pretty as a picture on beautiful pottery (that I hope is locally made)! One potential negative...the noise level in the beer hall is very HIGH, which made it difficult to hear my friend sitting across the narrow table. Be warned, if you are noise averse or have difficulty hearing, then this may not be the place for you on a busy night. read more

Oh for fucks sake, what is this place trying to be. Im going to refer you to the picture I took about 6 months ago or more. I can't remember I was too drunk. I'm going to begin my review now.(in Debbie Downer voice) The setting, Berlin. The year, 1942. I walked in with wide eyed abandon. Upon entering you are forced to stand single file to order your precious beer. There is one open area right in front of the bar and god forbid if you stand there too long the bartender kindly asks you to move. GTFO. I don't know how to categorize this place. I was even more confused when I looked at the menu. Standard issue beers. Nothing to write home aboot. The food menu is entirely finger food based. This place has literally gone out of its way to minimize major loses by overcharging for ritz crackers. And putting some sort of flare on ordering gourmet peanut butter and jelly on bread. For shits and giggles we ordered the dip with crackers. Got a giant bowl of dip with literally 7 crackers. And it was facking expensive too. Jesus Christ do you know how fast the average human consumes crackers? Let alone 3 large burly men. 7 isn't enough!! (See attached pic) I mean in some fucked up dystopian future where Donald T. Rump is president I can see this happening. Or in some other alternate 1985 where Marty goes back in time only to come to the grim reality that bread futures has skyrocketed do to world overpopulation. I came here for drinks and apps and the drinks and food were delicious and the service was excellent. The bartender was clearly very skilled at making a variety of creative cocktails. I had a curry flavored savory cocktail that was quite unique and very tasty. The curry wasn't overpowering as I feared it might be and it was very easy to drink and went well with the cheese and crackers we ordered. I also really liked that they seemed to give equal attention to their cocktail, beer and wine menus with great choices in each. I'm docking a star because I don't really get the "alpine" theme of the place, which doesn't feel very authentic or coherent. Having traveled to Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Italy, including the alpine regions of those countries, I have a general sense of what places in those regions are like but I wasn't getting that vibe here. There's a random painting on the wall depicting an alpine region in the back room and the tables in the back room are somewhat reminiscent of a German beer hall except with chairs instead of benches. The front room looks pretty much the same as it did when Livermore was there which has more of a Victorian vibe. They have a random assortment of wine, beer and cocktails from Europe, but many are far from actual alpine regions. None of the food appears to be alpine themed, other than a raclette-ish salad. There's also a German pretzel but that's pretty generic. There's many other more interesting and exotic alpine food they could experiment with that would give them a unique edge, like rösti or alplermagronen. I like the idea of the theme an it has potential but it needs a little work and just comes off as trying too hard or a really bad hipster impression of what an alpine bar might be like. read more
