I heard about Lord Ashley's Pub & Eatery and there brunch buffet and knew we had to go check it out. It's not a typical buffet. You order and they make it fresh for you, but it is all you can eat. I really liked this idea, because not everyone is touching the utensils and breathing on the food. This is an older building, but it was clean and we had a great waitress. It wasn't very busy and our food always came out fresh and tasty. I started out with a small omelet and bacon. They had all the veggies and meats you would want! We also shared hash browns. I did a half order of the gravy and I thought it was pretty good. Not too spicy and a half order was perfect. We ended with splitting a waffle! My family and I have driven by 100's of times and never paid attention to this place. And we should have. Don't let the interior of the place mislead you, it's older looking but it's no indication of the food or service. We came in for the breakfast buffet and found out it's not a buffet. Instead it's one price and order as much as you'd like. Which is much better than a buffet because everything came out fresh. All of the food we ordered tasted great and it was a very fair price. One of the Staff members saw us approaching with my mother using her walker and came to help us with the doors. Then helped me get her seated at a table. they gave us all the time we needed to decide on our orders. Comfort food, old school and big portion is how I'd rate this place. 3 stars for quality, 4 stars for value. The price is right, the portions are big and the menu has plenty of variety. Plus, if you use Yelp Cash back you get paid to dine here! I'll definitely be back soon. There is nothing fancy, just expect to pick up a huge tenderloin, Reuben, burger or BLT club for under $10 and take half of it home. We had a disappointing experience this morning. My 6 months old is teething and was crying. The owner asked me if I would like to use his office to calm her down and so I did, I thought that was kind of him. My husband came in and told me the owner offered us the office after making a comment that they don't want babies crying in there when people are trying to eat. Then, the owner came in and said "well you are going to go, then?" While we were gathering our things, the owner told us not to come back. Not to worry, we will not be back. The chicken Alfredo was good but not great and chicken thin. The home glazed chicken was a small breast with a little rice and one side; $17. Not worth it. The 3 salads in our orders were large and fresh. Dressings were quite good as well The Con: they automatically charged an 18% tip on a take out order. 6 lunches were $106 for a pub? Obscene, even by todays standards. No one mentioned there was tip added even on take out order of 6 or more. My wife and I stopped in for the first time today. I had the fish & chip. The fish was wonderful. Fries were a good average. I would order this again. My wife had the portobello sandwich that had chips on the side. Most places just open a bag. But no they take the time to hand cut the chips. I went there for breakfast this morning because they have a breakfast buffet. The breakfast buffet is pretty basic. It's cooked to order, and you get to choose between pancakes, and French toast, they have gravy, eggs to order, omelettes, and of course, bacon and sausage. That's it. I thought it would have been reasonable because when you look them up, the price is $10.99 per person for the breakfast buffet. Where they get you is , they charge you around seven dollars per drink. No free refills. So for me and my three daughters and my wife my bill ended up being over $80. One of my daughters is only 5. Not only that, but when you order you have to wait 15 to 20 minutes each time so by time it was time for me to order my second round I was tired of waiting. Definitely not worth the $80. When I looked on my receipt, the breakfast buffets were actually $15.99 per person and around seven dollars per drink. They were pretty full, and they only had one server, one bartender, and around three bussers , which I thought was weird. I suggest if you try Lord Ashley's, when you order your food try to order everything that you're going to eat in that visit, Otherwise you will be there for at least an hour and a half before you're ordering your third round of food if you make it that long. The food is pretty basic so you probably won't stay past the second round. Definitely NOT worth the money. I won't be i back. read more

Ordered a to-go meal @ 7:00 on a Thursday night. Ordered the seafood fettuccine and nachos. Asked for the pasta to have extra sauce on it and extra sour cream for the nachos. Waitress said chili for nachos would be ok the side so they wouldn't be soggy. I ask how long it would take and was told that they were a little backed up so it would be about 20-25 minutes. This was after she put the order in. We leave and run an errand. We return at 7:35. Food still not ready. I ask and am told she'd check on it. She comes back 8 minutes later and says it's almost ready. I tell her if it's not ready now then forget about it. She runs to the back and comes back 5 minutes later with the order. I check the order and the pasta is DRY and the chili is on the nachos. Frustrated, I ask her for the sauce for the pasta, thinking I can just deal with the nachos. It takes 6 minutes to "warm up the sauce". She finally brings me the sauce and hands me my check! $27.23 for pasta and nachos that took almost and HOUR! I could've made my own in half the time! No consideration that I've waited almost an hour, nothing but "sorry 'bout that". Wasn't expecting meal to be comp'd but a 15% discount for the inconvenience or SOMETHING! The nachos did not survive the ride home. Too soggy to eat and the cheese dried up making it impossible to even separate the chips. And the tablespoon of "extra" sour cream I asked for was useless! Didn't eat them. Will NOT be returning!! Food quality... mediocre! Service... POOR! My patience... GONE! Was recommended this place because I LOVE local establishments but I will NEVER eat here again! (Sidenote: this isn't my first time here, I tried their all you can eat breakfast and wasn't impressed at all and had dinner there before and the service wasn't worth anything that time either). read more

I'd been pondering a stop at Lord Ashley's Pub & Eatery for quite awhile, but I wasn't quite sure what to expect from what I understand used to be a small, local chain of places that I believe now is survived only by this location on the Northeastside of Indy right on the edge of Cumberland. Lord Ashley's located in what could easily be described as a fairly run down, or at least highly "lived in," strip center that also includes a Gramboli's, a Dollar General, a game store, and a child care. It certainly isn't a dive, but it hasn't exactly been kept up either. As should be obvious, Lord Ashley's is both a pub and an eatery, though the majority of its space is devoted to "eatery." You enter and the "pub" is located to the right. However, those with mobility issues should note that there's actually a couple of steps into the pub area and it's definitely not wheelchair friendly. The eatery, however, is definitely wheelchair friendly and takes the rest of the space. It kind of strikes me as weaving together hominess and a mild pub look. It's what your house would look like if it had a bar including a fireplace, a handful of televisions (not widescreen), and for the most part warm wood tables and furnishings. It should be noted that if you require being surrounded by shiny things to enjoy a meal, you won't likely enjoy it here. Lord Ashley's could use a bit of a makeover, though it's generally clean and well kept. It looks and feels lived in. The menu has quite a bit of variety ranging from your general bar fare like pizza, wings, burgers, and chicken to fish specials, sirloin specials, and a ton of different sandwiches, drinks, etc. As a friend of the Tenderloin Connoisseur, Rick Garrett, I'm always keeping my eye out for a new tenderloin joint I can turn him on to. When I saw tenderloin on the menu, I knew that would be the option. This tenderloin sandwich can be served breaded, grilled, blackened, or BBQ. I opted for the breaded at $7.99 - it comes with chips, but I upgraded to fries for $1.00 and my usual unsweetened iced tea. Up to this point here was my impression. The service was casual and friendly. I was greeted right away, seated right away, and offered my iced tea in a timely manner. I received multiple refills and was offered another. I was there at an off-time, which I'm sure helped, but it was nice to be able to sit in a restaurant and relax without feeling rushed and without being neglected. Sheryl, my server, was helpful throughout the meal. The service is definitely the best feature at Lord Ashley's. The atmosphere was relaxed, I suppose not completely surprising given that "lived in" look. I was given my choice of tables and had chosen one near the kitchen (though I didn't really know that when I chose it). I regretted this just a bit as the kitchen area was kind of noisy. I heard occasional shrieks that kind of made me wonder if maybe my tenderloin had come from some customer who hadn't paid. I really wanted Lord Ashley's to be a 4-star rating. However, I have to be honest and say that I found the food a bit disappointing. It wasn't awful, but it was definitely below average. The tenderloin was thin and too crispy, burned in a couple spots, and it was hard not to notice that it came in two different pieces stacked one on top of the other on the nicely toasted bun. Again, it wasn't awful but I definitely wouldn't order it again. The french fries were thin and crispy and tasted like your generic fries. As I recall, Lord Ashley's was more known for its pizza and this might be what I would try should I return. I simply can't give a 4-star rating to a restaurant where I found myself ultimately disappointed by the actual meal no matter how much I enjoyed the service. So, my breakdown would be: Service - 4 Stars Atmosphere - 3 Stars Food - 2 Stars The pricing at just over $11.00 for the entire meal is a fairly good value. The multiple refills were much appreciated and the iced tea was splendid. It's fairly easy to average this one out and give it a 3-star rating knowing that there's ample other food selections that I can try on another visit and the service and atmosphere are such that a return visit is likely. Lord Ashley's does offer specials throughout the week, has karaoke on Saturday nights at 10pm, and also offers drink specials. If you're looking for a reasonably priced place to chill out and relax, I'd definitely give them a chance. read more

To say the food was disappointing is an understatement. I ordered the crab cakes and the description read "...lightly grilled." They were burned and thinner than a pancake. They tasted burned. I ordered potato's skins without olives and they came with olives. They provided about two tablespoons of sour cream for four large potato skins. The crab stuffed mushroom caps have no crab meat. I took apart each one and it's all onion and sauce. When I called the restaurant to talk to the manager about the food problems, "Trish" told me there was no manager there and wanted me to talk to the cook. I asked for a refund for the crab cakes and skins because we couldn't eat them. She told me there's no manager and I would need to talk to the owner, Scott. It's my opinion this place has no pride in the quality of their food or it's appearance when serving it to the customers. read more

The wife and I love to support local. So much to the point that we would prefer to eat at a local place over a chain restaurant. For some reason we love the side salads here. It is just your basic lettuce so it must be the ranch that we like so much. The grilled tenderloin is very good. Some items are not good and cost to much. But steak night is a good deal. When you walk in this place, it has a "grandma's 1960's living room" feel. It's dark and gloomy while warm and inviting, all at the same time. The seats were actually quite comfy and the elderly hostess was nice. I was immediately concerned when I saw how HUGE the menu was. Typically with SO many options, nothing is great (as Robert Irvine tells all restaurants on Restaurant Impossible). I decided to have the special, which was a 7-oz. sirloin and two sides for 9.99 (normally 11.99). My husband ordered the grilled tenderloin sandwich (his go-to meal no matter where we go). My side salad came out with a basket of crackers. Although it wasn't fancy, it was absolutely delicious and SO fresh! You can tell they make their own ranch, which was also delicious. Our meals came shortly after. My steak was cooked perfectly but a little under seasoned. A little salt and pepper did the trick. It was definitely tender! My baked potato was good, which isn't a surprise (it's hard to screw up a baked potato). My husband greatly enjoyed his sandwich and the homemade chips. That's the only side it comes with and you cannot substitute. You can only order an additional side. That was a bit of a bummer but oh well. After we finished eating, I realized I never got my bread but the menu says the bread is included when you request it so that was my mistake. The pricing was great, our waitress was nice, food came quickly, and we even had a 25% off coupon from the Discover Indy book. Well, I waited about 10 years before giving them a try again this evening. My prior experiences years ago were "so-so" and I decided then not to bother anymore.... I should have remembered why and not gone. First, the place hasn't changed a bit. Look, I have nothing against 'cozy' or 'quaint', as some of those places are the best! But 'Outdated' best describes the ambience. Okay, get past that, and what about the service? It was okay, although our server kept calling me 'Captain', and for what reason, I have no clue. We ordered the Loaded Chips for an appetizer, it was average. I then ordered the Southwest Burger, with a side of fries. I was not aware the cost of oil was so high that places like this were saving costs by frying FISH in the same oil as the FRIES. Yep. The shoe fries that came with the burger tasted like fish... absolutely terrible. The food was also semi-warm and the burger was also average. I can only say that I have now tried here years ago, and tried them yet again this evening... all with the unfortunate same outcome.. not recommended. I would love to be able to rave about the place, because I live in the area and this would be a possible 'regular' stop... but it is not meant to be! read more

I've had a couple of really good experiences here. My wife and I have a pretty hectic schedule, and there are nights when we are in between engagements on the east side and need a place to set, eat, and just not feel "rushed" for a bit. Lord Ashley's certainly fits this bill. I'm a huge fan of their breaded tenderloin...but I see that others have had varying experiences from mine with it. I'll say that each time I've ordered it, it's been stellar. I'm also a fan of their fries...they're thin and crispy, much like Steak n Shake. Burgers are decent, but fall short of stellar. All that said, nothing pushes it into a 5 star rating, but I feel very comfortable with a 4. :) read more

This is near my new neighborhood and I was really hoping for good food and a cool place to wet my whistle. It Sucks! I ordered a french dip sandwich, it came on cheap store bought bread. I would swear that it was generic packaged roast beef on my sandwich. It was not hot, at all, and the au jus was just cold watered down beef bullion. The price was way above the quality level. My wife ordered a Reuben and she said her meat was slimy and the bread was soggy also priced way above the quality of food.
