A very what you see is what you get kinda place that doesn't seem to follow any trends or try too hard to be hip like most of the downtown area. They're here: PBR drinkers and black-shirt, tattooed types, artists, felons, rich, poor, all, some or none of these things. Also here, just down the bar, young professionals, drinking craft brews while staring at Salesforce on their high-end laptops at noon. You can almost imagine a modern-day Faulkner sipping cocktails al fresco under whirling fans, on the cobblestones of First Avenue. Inside, it's the perpetual cool twilight that tricks the internal clock of day-drinkers; forget the cruel sun and heat outside, it's 5:00 here. You'll find the brick and dark wood, standard to downtown bars who want to show some age. You'll see 25ish taps of craft brews and ciders, a couple of nitro taps, and macro brews. They only serve American beers, half of which are from Florida, and several that are very rare. The spirits selection covers all the basics and has enough of the unusual and high-end to satisfy every drinker. The food is as excellent as one would expect from a quality gastropub. You'll find the requisite bar food, elevated through ingredients and techniques to exquisite results. The truffle fries are a must-have. Great service by knowledgeable and friendly bartenders, solid local beer selection, and good wings. The Monday special of $4.25 for any beer on tap was a very nice surprise. The wings are fried then grilled, which definitely adds a lot more flavor than what you find more often than not. Had an order of 12 split between barbecue and garlic parm, would recommend both, although the garlic parm definitely stood out. They had a ton of picnic tables set up outside and were jam-packed, think they do trivia on Mondays? Definitely brought in a huge crowd, but they were still able to manage it well and had drinks and food out in a short amount of time. Have I told y'all I don't care for pubs much? Not just pubs here... I collected that I don't much like pubs after visiting them on three different continents. I mean, pubs kinda look like pirate ships. And I feel like I've been served more than a few warm (hot) beers in pubs... well nonetheless this is not the case for Loosey's. Dont let Loosey's pirate-like appearance fool you, Loosey's is definitely more than just a pub... My experience at Loosey's was honestly pretty good! I find Loosey's a little intimidating; their crowd is full of tatted up regulars and hip oldsters. But nothing comes between me and a $6 burger that the city says is good. So I went in sat at the bar (that kind of resembled a pirate ship) and ordered up a burger (medium). 1st of all the bartender was so sweet and helpful. It was early so it wasn't super busy but there was enough of a crowd and she worked it well. After trying a summery grapefruit beer (served cold) I ordered a cocktail and it was pretty good. When my burger came out it was surprisingly cooked medium. I liked it, it was pretty good as well. The fries were super good. Loosey's, I liked it. Came in at 11:30pm for a late dinner after the Gators home opener, I called ahead to make sure the kitchen was open, turns out the kitchen is open till midnight in Saturday. Their menu is IMPRESSIVE with vegan and vegetarian options clearly labeled. I ordered the roasted veggie burger ($10) with vegan (up charge) cheese and a side of their amazing house cut fries. The food came out within 15 minutes, it seemed so fast as we were entertained by the karaoke going on. The servings were very big! The roasted veggie burger was flavorful and different than your average bean burger or mock meat burger. The service was great! I wish I caught our severs name, she had short blond hair and a lot of tattoos, She was great, she knew the menu and ingredients which always makes me a happy customer. They also have a "vegan option" and the impossible burger as well as Brussel sprouts and a few other vegan options, which is much appreciated! I tried the $5 bottles of California Ale Blood Orange Cider, it was ok. They have a pretty big drink menu with a lot of $7 drink specials too. Next time I'm in Gainesville I will be back! During the plague Loosey's has been a savior. One can sit outside at comfy tables and enjoy drinks and food and feel safe and normal in a time where everything is anything but normal. Many people come here on a pretty regular basis, including us, and there is good reason why. The beer selection is pretty vast, the drinks are well made, and the food is and fresh made to order (not frozen crap dumped in a fryer). I highly recommend the fish and chips and burgers. Check for the weekend specials--the PBR chili is most excellent. For pub fare they go above and beyond. They always have music going and it always an eclectic collection of really good tunes. They have trivia and open mic nights. The people who work here are all awesome and we appreciate them. read more

The restaurant is still on limited table service (you order at the bar) but the food was as terrific as ever. Had a chimichurri chicken sandwich with fries and my wife had a great burger with slaw that were both absolutely delicious. Really hit the spot. Amazing chicken wings here!! I heard alot about their Sriracha Lime Garlic wings and I was not disappointed. They make the wings to order so the wait time for that item was about 15-20 minutes but SO WORTH IT. My friend ordered the pork tacos which came with 5 tacos. The pork was juicy and the tacos were delicious overall. I definitely recommend the wings and pork tacos. Our corn dog appetizers came out quickly and was good but nothing spectacular. The corn dogs are also made in house and not frozen. Next time I'll try the truffle fries which I hear good things about. They have good beer selections too. I didnt see the Moscow Mule on their drinks list but ordered it anyways and was not disappointed! With the outdoor approach to dealing with Covid comes the unexpected enjoyment that is a night dining outside in the heart of historic downtown Gainesville. Looseys is known as quality pub fare and they did not disappoint. My wife has the fish and chips and she loved them and said the fries were especially amazing. I got the hot buffalo garlic wings. The first few were great and then the garlic became over powering. I will order regular buffalo next time. The wings cooked perfectly and were a good size wing. Went on a Saturday afternoon with a family member and we both got a build your own burger. I got mine well done when I asked for medium. I got onion rings which were ok nothing to rave about but better than other places I've tried , not greasy,nice crunch and they don't fall apart. Fries were soggy and had a burnt orange color. The burger itself was good but lacked proper salt and pepper so I used the garlic aioli sauce I bought on the side for dipping. I paid for everything $40 for that including root beer and lemonade on the side. I think it was not cheap because of them extra toppings you have to pay for that aren't included in the initial price .I give it 4.5 score cause it can improve and it was an all around good lunch but lacked in some areas .. I think you can easily be able to fix some small things. Burger overall was good size and meal was filling. Finally got to attend trivia night here with a group of friends! I was excited to try their wings because I heard it was the best in town. I ended up getting nacho fries and mac and cheese and my friend got wings so I tried one of his. The nacho fries were to die for. It was so cheesy but the cheese had its own flavor and it was thick. All of the toppings like guacamole and the pico was fresh. The fries were also crispy and didn't get soggy right away. The Mac n cheese wasn't my favorite, it came out room temperature, I really liked the crumbs on top but I added hot sauce to make it a little more flavorful. Maybe the cheese from the nachos tricked me. Last but not least the wings were amazing. They were huge to begin with and the buffalo sauce was flavorful and not just spicy by itself. On top of that, the burgers are $6 on Wednesday's from 4-9pm which is an insanely good price for what you get. My only qualm with Loosey's is how expensive the toppings are, which is why I only tend to come here on Wednesday's. My go-to combination is getting a medium rare burger with all the free toppings and adding an egg, bacon, jalapeño aioli, and bacon. *insert heart eyes emoji* AMBIANCE (3/5): SERVICE (4/5): Summary: Overall Loosey's is one of my favorite places in Gainesville. I came for the Impossible Burger (my second one ever) and man, was it good (better than my first)! I think the fries and the patty could have used a bit more salt, but overall the meal was delicious. The onions in particular were awesome! I've never had such juicy and tasty (yet not too strong) onions on a burger before. I have to find out where they get their onions lol. Presentation was great and I got a bucket full of condiments and napkins. I'm sure the place is more alive in the evening but I liked being a little alone for lunch. Daytime service can also be improved but the bar tender/server was very sweet. A lot of variety in the seating as well. I also appreciate Loosey's No Straw efforts. They were sold out of the steel straws, but I am looking to purchase some in the future and have been for a while. I'm definitely coming back for trivia night with some friends one day. I have been on a mission to find a truly amazing burger since moving here and I admit that the burger here was pretty great, especially compared to the burger at so-called greatest in Gville at Public & General (that's a whole other story!) but the service here kills it for me. I have been during daylight hours a handful of times now and only once have I not left thinking that I was just on the receiving end of someone's really rough day! More than once have I waited 30 minutes for a single beer due to a "shift change" even though the guy that walked in behind me got his beer right away. At night, the weird stench is so bad that I have yet to make it all the way inside to the bar. So I have no idea how the service is after dark. read more

Nothing special above a average bar tender for a busy local spot. The drinks are typical. Prices are average and pours as well. They have a small selection of food that is decent for bar food. The facility is a bit old or maybe a little run down but overall a nice place to chill and have a drink. Overall, it is a average place. Husband and I joined the kickball league. No, I'm not reviewing the wrong thing. Loosey's sponsors the kickball league. Which is cool of them. I like a business that is involved in the community. And after kickball is over, it's off to Loosey's. Most of the staff is super nice, and the couple that aren't are simply eh. They always let us move the tables around, so our team can sit together. They serve fancified pub food. We don't usually eat after a game, but once we did. I had a very, very yummy fried chicken sandwich. Husband had a burger that he enjoyed greatly. He didn't say anything but I can interpret his non-speak and I can tell you, he really liked that burger. They have a ton of beer choices. I don't drink much, but they serve Coke products, so I'm a happy camper. Husband likes to have a beer, but not really craft beer. So the first time we went in, he goes up to the bar and asks what is on tap. The bartender starts going through a long list and he stopped her and said, "No, no... I'd like an old guy's beer." The array of draft beers was very nice for a dive bar, and they even had a special that day on $4 local drafts. Really awesome little spot that seems to be popular with students, adults, transplants and locals alike. Two people came in just to buy t-shirts, so they must be popular? The bartender said that the burgers are amazing, and from the many people eating them, I do believe her. I know that this place is popular as a go-to night spot, but I can't say much since I stopped by for lunch. I will say that there were no musky smells that usually accompany college bars haha. For it being main area Gainesville, the venue is pretty large: the large bat is immediately visible when walking in. To the right are some games (pool, darts) ad to the left a stage. When the early hours come expect to find tables but at night know there will be people rocking out! The Service This crew can get busy but, again, it's a bar with some table service. Depending on what is happening you can get your food orders a little delayed, but overall drink pours and eats are swift. Never have I ran into rudeness or mistreatment even on rowdy evenings and that, my Yelpers, is hard to find. The Goods Quickly, the bar offers an extensive liquor selection that will satisfy all but the snootiest. Craft beer game is rockin' and even includes a monthly featured beer at $3.50 a pint. Not bad for an Everyman beer option. They take care of you concerning booze strength where possible. Food though? Rock-solid! From the Truffle-Parm fries (A) to the Veggie Burger with Jalapeño Aioli (B+) you'll be shocked to find yourself: - drunk - hungry - satisfied at a late-night bar venue that's downtown.
