I've been here for my eye exam the last two times. I collect frames and they have some cute ones here, and high quality lenses if you want to update old frames. I know you can get cheaper lenses, but making sure I have good lenses is important to me. I've gotten cheap-o ones before and ended up with prescription decline and a lot of scratches. I came in today for an eye exam and was having really bad morning sickness and trying so hard not to vomit. Amy showed me some breathing techniques so I could relax before the eye tests. So embarrassing to need, but I'm grateful for their kindness, and now I have a new relaxation tool too. The exam showed my eyes are in good health and I got see a huge photo of my eye. No drops, very sensitive to pregnancy and my symptoms. Thank you! They also have some sort of database to search if you have insurance. I apparently have eye insurance that I didn't know about! So no worries if you can't find your insurance card and maybe you'll get a surprise lower copay instead of paying full price for the exam. The door is locked because there's rough people sometimes in Polk Gulch. So if you go, and they don't seem open, just knock. I wish they were in a safer patch of the neighborhood and, maybe in time they will be able to move up a few blocks. But then, if all the good stores move once they get going, that little patch won't be able to get safer. Vegan Picnic from Union Street is across the way now too, so it seems to be on an upward trend over there. It is very clean, and comfortable in the store and exam room. read more

Before considering this optometry as an option, I encourage you to review all 1 and 3 star reviews others have written. There are about 10 dating back to 2014 to more recent that are all consistent to my own experience. Some have been verbally addressed by ownership via Yelp, but I do not believe they're making adjustments to how they are operating their business practices and customer service because the same concerns by previous patients are still occurring today to which I can attest to. Please beware of: - bedside mannerisms by optometrist, though she is very thorough during the eye exam so I appreciated this - being pushy at sales attempts by all associates including optometrist throughout one visit - unhelpful when asked about my insurance policy and what would and wouldn't be covered I do not appreciate being cut off when speaking (over the phone and in-person, by associate and optometrist) or an attitude when asking product questions. Positive, warm, and cheerful customer service are surely present but it doesn't count when it's merely conditional to a transaction. I figured I'd try a new optometrist to support another small business, but after reading through other patients' experiences here, I validated my assessment of what a subpar visit I had. I'll be returning to my old provider Amy Thich at AccuVision in Hayes Valley off Divisadero in the years to come. read more

This is my second time coming to Looksie for glasses. I initially picked Looksie because I lived close by and it looked like they had nice frames that you won't find at your chain glasses store. Both times the staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. This last time I couldn't find the perfect frames, so they were able to order them for me. My girlfriend and I both go to Looksie for our eye care. Dr. Tran is the best eye doc we've ever had. We really appreciate how carefully she explains everything to us. We really feel like we get great care from her and as a bonus, she's just super nice to work with. Samantha at the front of house has helped us get about a half dozen pairs of eye glasses and sun glasses over the last couple years. This is a new patient review. Let me start by saying WOW! From the time I booked my first appointment to the time I received not one but two pairs of glasses, my experience has been great. Since we're living in a Covid world now, they made sure that both their staff and patients were well protected. And can we talk about the office itself? It was so warming yet chic. And for it to be in SF, where parking is non-existing and pretty much congested, I was able to find parking with no issues for the times I visited. Dr. Tran and her wonderful staff have been nothing but wonderful to me. Knowing that it has been a while since I have seen the eye doctor, Dr. Tran took great care of me, even checking on some of the concerns I had and educating me on them. She even recommended and gave me a sample of some contacts for me to try out to help with the brightness, and let me tell you, and I am in loooove. And speaking of love, I was so in awe of her staff, especially one in particular (whose name I can not remember, and I feel so bad, but to be fair, I am horrible with names but great with faces =) ) who help me find not one, but two awesome frames. I honestly felt like I have been going to this office for years, on how we all could connect, converse and laugh so casually. I found this Dr. Tran's office through Google and Yelp and their reviews, and happy to say the reviewers did not disappoint. Happy to have found a new Optometry to call home. Was looking for a vietnamese speaking optometrist as my wife just came to the US and figured it'd make things easier for an eye exam. Dr Tran was exactly what we needed. I visited Looksie Optometry few months ago for my annual eye exam. I switched my eye doctor after 2 years because I wasn't happy with the previous optometry I went to. Dr. Tran and her staff were very friendly and welcoming. This store seriously break the law, it is a lier and cheater. The good manner they pretend is probably to just entice you. They use much cheaper lenses and frame from the brand you particularly ordered for and it is hard to tell the difference if you are not an expert, and you have to go to an expert to find out what the real material they are using. I spent more than $700 for a famous-brand Titanium alloy frame and lenses. They are totally fake. read more

Looksie Optometry is my new go to place for eye exams, great choices in Eyewear, outstanding customer service and professionalism. I was able to efficiently book an appointment online a couple of weeks ago. The convenience of having the office just 4 minutes from my office was too much to resist. I prefer female professionals and that box was checked. My appointment was efficiently confirmed with appropriate follow-ups. I went in today and was greeted with a the cheerful personality of a young woman who walked me through the brief intake document while confirming my insurance details. My exam and all subsequent testing began promptly and was impressed with the new age equipment Dr. Tran has in her office. Without question, this was the most pleasant environment I have experienced in terms of addressing any Healthcare needs. when it was time to see Dr. Tran, she walked in and addressed me, .making direct eye contact (I like that) and asked about what needs motivated my visit to the office. She listened, took notes and even managed to smile, laugh and share moments of levity with me while she learning about my needs. She focused on me as though nothing else mattered and I felt special having this gifted woman dial in and be willing to be so present during my visit. we talked about family as well. She was kind and gentle as my apprehension must have been obvious. When ever I became tense she used her hand and voice to calm me so that we could finish and move to the next step. Dr. Tran provided me with takeaways that I did not need a science degree to understand. In addition, she pedged to follow-up with a report that I may share with my general practitioner. She helped my browse the wide array of stylish frames and find one that serves my needs best. The pricing was within reason and I have every reason to believe that the outcome will match my marvelous experience at Looksie Optometry today. But I am very happy with the care I receive there. All the staff are capable, attentive, and friendly. They also are transparent about the costs, and help me manage good support from my insurance. I visited Looksie Optometry on Tuesday, November 9, 2021. The office is beautiful & welcoming. The staff are welcoming, friendly, helpful, knowledgeable & explained their policy regarding eye care testing & fees. However, the negative is the location of the office which is in a homeless & drug infested neighborhood. Patients have to navigate through the homeless, drug infested, urine & feces infested neighborhood when entering & exiting the optometry office. I don't feel it's safe for anyone to patronize Looksie Optometry in this neighborhood. Therefore, even though I have been a patient of Dr. Slamovich's for years, starting next year I will be going to another optometrist for my eye care needs because my safety is the most important consideration. read more

Everything here moves on 0.25x speed, contact lenses takes weeks to deliver while I know I can get them online in 3 days is frustrating, having to make an appointment for anything you want to do here even just picking up your order is as inefficient as it can get, oh and god forbid you have an emergency and expect some urgency from their side, I really tried to make this work and stuck around for years, If you rely on eyeglasses to see the world like me this is not a place that will take that seriously, the limited working hours, and the need for appointments for anything here made it an unreliable choice. I was impressed by the selection of cute high-end frames, the friendliness of the staff, all the high-tech gadgets that were used (so different from those manual lenses at the older optometry clinics), and Dr. Amy Tran. Very disappointing. I stopped by Looksie as I needed to replace a nose pad on my Anne et Valentin frames. The receptionist told me that it would take a full business day to find and replace the part. When I queried incredulously about the time it would take (one full business day), I offered to replace the piece myself. To add insult to injury, Looksie gave me the wrong piece as a replacement. I went to another optical store on Fillmore and they replaced the missing piece in LESS THAN 3 MINUTES! I can appreciate the challenges to any company due to the pandemic, but in the end, customer service is critical to any retail establishment. She gave me wrong prescription the first time and we did retesting, my eyes are still blurry. Dr. Tran was very thorough in performing exam. I think she is a good specialist, but i thought she could work on her bedside manner. She lost her patience with me during exam, because I kept giving inconsistent replies. My eyes are not in the best shape and it was hard for me to focus for such a long time. And then she got really upset with me for not buying glasses at her store. She really tried to work something out for me which I was very appreciative for, but i simply did not like any of the frames, and I thought it would be crazy to buy expensive frames i do not really love. She said: "You know we really are not making much money of you with what we are offering you". Made me feel a bit cheep, like I am guilty of not being a decent patient. I have to go again next week, in order to check if prescription is right for me, but if I did not waste my insurance on that office I would totally go elsewhere. Very uninviting. read more

I chose to go to this office because it was conveniently located close to my office, I should have done a bit more research. I've had better experiences, I was told," We have many frames that your insurance will cover." But then I was shown frames that exceed the amount my insurance covers. I had already chosen the frame before being told that it was more expensive, though I purchased it anyway because I liked them a lot (would have preferred to be told the price beforehand, at least have a sticker on the frame). I was told that the glasses would take a week, then after paying the ridiculous amount that I was charged I was told they would be ready in 2 weeks!!! I was quite upset by this, so I was told that they would try and rush it. After doing a bit of research I found that the frames I purchased were heavily over priced, Lenscrafters was even cheaper!! After calling to inquire about my glasses and why they are so much more expensive than everywhere else in San Francisco, I was told that if I were paying completely out of pocket they would have probably worked with me on the price a bit. But that doesn't make any sense because they are still receiving full price, $150 from my insurance and the remainder from me, so again what I was told didn't make sense. I will speak to my insurance company, and definitely not recommend this office to others in my Company/Union/USAA Members. read more

5-Star experience at Looksie Optometry! ...[great brand/logo imaging] I decided to switch eye-doctors this year. The reasons I switched from the old office were various ranging from being rushed during the exams, to that weird/sinking feeling you get when you ask a question from said staff and they conjure up that look like you are bothering them. Dr. Tran is very professional and does a complete exam with a thorough explanation. She has the latest equipment to see how sharp or un-sharp your vision is. I was able to get a new set of RGP contact lenses and a great pair of glasses. She is also very personable, with an engaging personality. I never felt rushed during the initial exam. I've had a subsequent visit since then as a follow-up. Her assistant, Micaela, is very sweet and has great taste with selecting the right eye-wear frames. We went through several options, and picked the best pair to match my face! You can set up appointments through her web-site and they will email a couple of confirmations for you. She is located on a busy street with plenty of parking in the surrounding area. Dr. Tran's office is also conveniently opened on Saturday as well. If you are locating for a new optometrist, consider Dr. Tran. Your eyes will be a healthy believer! read more

Dr. Tran has been my optometrist since she worked for a corporate chain. She is thorough, kind, knowledgeable, and very trustworthy. She has also given her opinion on glasses when I was between a few pair and she has always been SPOT ON! She is very passionate about her work and the patient's satisfaction.
