My husband and I have been going to Fong and Wong Optometry for many years. I finally decided to do a Yelp review. My husband and I wanted to share with others about what it is like to go and get your eyes checked in a truly, excellent office with brilliant optometrists. The office is unbelievably clean, comfortable and the front desk staff are competent and welcoming and so are both of the Doctors. Our Doctor is Dr. Fong, who is brilliant, educating and explains everything about our treatment in detail. Dr. Fong is easy going, friendly and puts us both at ease. The exams are actually enjoyable. I always buy contact lenses and my husband buys glasses every year. They are of the highest quality and their prices are reasonable. It is so easy to go to an office where we are getting the highest quality in service and product. Don't hesitate. They take our VSP insurance. Enjoy. read more

Dr. Fong is the best!! I've been seeing him for over 2+ years now and I greatly appreciate his friendly candor and how informative he is about how the eye actually works. He explains it in a way that is easy to understand and I feel more informed about how to best take care of my vision. I have glasses for working in front of the computer all day and my distance glasses for driving and my eyes are so much more relaxed and I have also been sleeping better. It's always a good experience whenever I have to go for an eye checkup or to pick up new frames. I recommended him to my best friend who is also a big fan of Dr. Fong as well. read more

Brian K Fong is a knowledgeable optometrist running a great office in the inner sunset of San Francisco. He is friendly and willing to share his expertise during every step of my eye exam. I initially went to Brian for a checkup and was so happy that I recommended my whole family to this office. Now my wife and two daughters had been going to Jonathan M. Fong for that past 4-5 years. This review is long overdue and we are all happy to give both Dr. Fongs 100 out of 100 stars if we could. read more

Been going here forever. Dr. Brian is truly the best. His son is now practicing with him and seems great. Highly, highly recommend.

I had a smooth visit after another optometrist in the area messed up my contact prescription. Dr. Brian was really nice and attentive. He took the time to answer all my questions and address my concerns. The staff were also super friendly. I had some trouble getting through on the phone at first, but since I live nearby, I just popped in to make an appointment. Everything went smoothly from there. read more

Great optometrist who actually spends quality time with his patients. He is clearly very passionate about his work and seems to enjoy educating and advising his patients. I've been a patient for over 20 years and only went to another Dr once when I couldn't get a timely appointment due to his popularity. Definitely worth the wait so plan ahead. Also, the front office situation seems to have improved significantly. They are much better about answering the phones and getting back to you. read more

I've been coming to Dr. Fong for years but haven't had a chance to give him a review! He's an amazing and thoughtful optometrists that really cares about his patients. He takes all the time you need to answer your questions and make sure you are happy with your care. His son Jonathan is great as well! read more

I rarely write reviews but I had to come give this place 5 stars! I dread going to the eye doctor, but this was by far the best experience I've had. Everyone at the front desk was kind and helpful. Not only that, but very straightforward with prices & insurance info. Doctor was quick, knowledgable, and so nice and willing to answer any questions. Overall great experience and will continue to come back! read more

They are super organized and efficient! The optometrist did a great job evaluating my vision and making lens suggestions. Contacts shipped fast and the office takes VSP. read more

I had my first visit to Dr. Jonathan Fong today. I was very impressed. My family has a history of serious eye issues, and I appreciated the thoroughness of the examination and clarity of his assessment. Also: The office team is very nice and efficient. The selection of frames is very good. This is my go-to optometrist now. read more

I trust the results of my eye test with Dr. Fong. But this guy is very fast and rushes the exam. I had questions about it, and he told me to not ask any questions. Haha. I think he forgot that I'm paying him. I had questions about my eyes and the exam, and he had no time for it- despite there being not a customer in sight. read more

I had a great experience. The front desk staff was friendly and professional. Dr. Fong worked quickly but effectively, explaining everything clearly. Great selection of frames, but no high pressure pitch to purchase any on the spot. Felt more like a medical appointment than a visit to a glasses boutique, which is rare. read more

I was referred to Dr. Fong from my insurance website. I needed an appointment asap since I broke my last contacts. Lucky they had a opening. The receptionist informed me of everything I should bring to the appointment and collected enough information to get my insurance benefits. Arriving to the office, I filled out 2 required new patients forms and was seen right after completion. My file was already prepared with insurance benefits details. Dr. Fong looked at my previous prescription and ask questions that may concern any changes. He proceed with the eye exam. Although it was over quickly, it seemed more do to his expertise than him rushing. He took his time to explain any concerns and also added some funny analogies. I'll never forget..."People are different, you can have tears like chicken broth or tears that stain like tomato sauce to your contacts." Regarding, glasses or contacts, they explained what my insurance covered. Dr. Fong and the receptionist. did not push for any sales but told me to get what was best for me which was just the standard plastic lens (cheapest option) vs. trying to upsell. read more

Jonathan M. Fong, OD. did an excellent job in my comprehensive eye exam. He was knowledgeable, experienced and did a great job in explaining my prescription. Strongly recommend! Thank you. read more

I experienced a freak accident while cleaning where a bunch of 409 splashed into my face/eyes. After calling Poison Control, I was told that I need to have my eyes examined right away. I called Dr. Fong's office and they were extremely helpful and accommodating-booked a same-day appointment. They took the matter very seriously and provided expert guidance to ensure that I wouldn't experience any permanent damage. Dr. Fong even provided his cell phone number in case I needed to contact him in the event that my vision changed suddenly. Can't thank them enough! read more

Saw Dr Fong. I was given a thorough explanation of my eyesight weaknesses and choice of solutions. Top notch. read more

I've been coming to this Optometry practice for 3 years now, and I have never been disappointed with them. Dr. Fong is so knowledgeable and friendly! I really enjoy my visits with him. I used to really hate going to the eye doctor (I have a very high prescription), but I feel comfortable here. I've never had an issue with billing either. I really feel like I've hit the jackpot with this place since I truly believe that this is the best optometrist that I've ever had (and trust me, I've had a lot growing up). I highly recommend Dr. Fong. read more

What a great service and amazing team. I can 100% recommend this place. My husband and I just moved to the sunset. After breakfast we stopped at Fong&Wongs to make an appointment for a regular check up. The team was super friendly and helpful and even got us appointments at the same day Great spot! read more

I've been seeing Dr. Fong annually since I was a kid! And he's the one health professional that I actually look forward to and enjoy seeing. Because he's so popular and busy, seeing him immediately isn't really an option and I once had to see another optometrist because of that reason but it just wasn't the same! Dr. Fong's care and service has always been 5 stars for me. I can tell he really cares about me as his patient. I feel comfortable telling him about any complications regarding my eyes. And he makes sure I understanding everything he's explaining and triple-checks to make sure we didn't forget to go over anything. And he always gives me a trial contact lens so I can see how they fit before they order them for me. He also guided me when buying glasses and contacts with my insurance so that I would pay less out of my own pocket. I saw a lot of other reviews commenting on his reception - Vicky. I do have to admit, she doesn't seem the most friendly on the phone. But she's been there since I was a kid so she obviously handles Dr. Fong's front desk business very well. She's more friendly when you see her too I think. Honestly, I think the only thing that sucks in the meter parking on the street. That SF parking and traffic in this area is terrible. But Dr. Fong has always been generous to share a few quarters to help with the meter situation. He gets it. And you really don't need to put more than 30-45 minutes in the meter because Dr. Fong's very quick with routine exams unless there are complications. read more

Everything is great about this office-- But I think the front desk receptionist can be a bit more polite or use less of a monotone when speaking to patients... read more

After relocating to SF 8 years ago and trying out 3 optometrists, Dr. Fong has been taking good care of my eyes for the last 5 years. He always has the time for and answers to all my questions. I never had issues with parking and always find metered parking across the street. I especially love the fact that I don't have a salesperson following me around the optical section after my eye exam. Dr. Fong offers a simple selection of frames and nothing fancy. If you are looking to spend $$$$$ plus on designer frames, the salespeople down the street at Optometrix (irving and 9th) will gladly demonstrate their sale skills. read more

My sis recommended Dr Fong, and he's awesome. I am super picky about eye doctors and I've been to a bunch, trying to find one who could write a script that didn't give me headaches. I have a slight astigmatism, and my eyes changed slightly when I turned 30 (color vision got worse in one eye, eyes got much drier, and vision improved). Dr Fong really really knows his stuff. HIs script was spot on, he explained why my color vision was changing (potential cataracts down the line, nothing to worry about now), and really took his time with me! (I was the last appointment on a Friday afternoon, and he took almost an hour.) The best part...he took my insurance (VSP)! I paid $10 out of pocket, got an exam, and 2 boxes of extremely expensive contacts (soft disposable torics). Parking is a pain in the Inner Sunset, but Dr Fong is worth the trek from the Peninsula!! read more

I've been a patient for the past 7 years or so . I was just in this past week for an exam and he's wonderful at making one feel comfortable. We chatted about my new job and his son's fanatical love of baseball. While these things make him great, what makes him OUTSTANDING is that he actually made a house call to a friend of mine when she had some problems with her eyes. And for me, he worked with me on tweaking my eyeglass prescription years ago when I was unable to wear my contacts due to allergy issues. read more

I've been going to Dr. Fong for seven years and he's helped me through eye infections (like 10 of them), new glasses and contacts. Going to him is like going to see your favorite uncle. He always has great stories to tell and always gives you great goodies when you leave the office (yay for eye drop samples and travel sized contact solution)! He's incredibly attentive to my eyes and gives conservative advice to make sure that I keep my fragile eyes safe and sound at all times. I've spent many extra long appointments (don't worry--usually I'm at the end of the day) in his office just asking him tons of questions about eyes, how they work, eye diseases, his opinion on new technologies and much more. He's incredibly knowledgable and won't recommend something to you, unless he's absolutely certain that it's safe. He really cares about every single one of his patients and wants them to have the healthiest eyes possible. His front desk receptionist, Vicky, deals with so much crap from crazy people, like myself. And she does it all patiently and diligently. I will go to Dr. Fong for the rest of my life! read more

I think it's only fitting that my first ever Yelp review is for a top-notch health care professional. Dr. Fong is definitely a people's person...he shows a genuine interest in getting to know his patients and builds rapport quickly. On top of that, he's very good at what he does. Doesn't get much better than that. If you're on the UCSF insurance plan, make sure to mention it to receive a discount! read more

Dr Fong is superb! I see better with glasses from him than I did with contact lenses (my eyes are not tolerating contacts) which is a remarkable accomplishment. Dr Fong is very professional, experienced and extremely personable. He will work with you to achieve the best vision possible; if something isn't perfect with the prescription he'll get it resolved. The office hours are even designed to make it easy to make fit adjustments during most people's lunchtime. I have had the pleasure of being his patient for 15 years and I am glad to have his optometric care. I highly recommend him to everyone I know. read more

I am very disapointed by Dr. Fong and the way things are done in the office. I've waited half a year to receive my glasses. I have been waiting more than half a year for the contacts. I am beyond disapointed and angry. I have no choice, but to give this office 1 star for their services. read more

Dr. Fong is conveniently located off the N Judah line. My family has been going to him for over 10 years. He's always friendly and asks how my parents are doing each time I come in. He remembers every conversation you have with him and spends the time getting to know each patient. Dr. Fong is one of the best optometrists out there. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Fong for ten years now. I started when I lived in the Inner Sunset and have since moved to the East Bay, but it is worth going across the bridge and through the city to see him. I always feel well taken care of there. Dr. Fong is very patient and never seems to be in a rush. He answers all of my questions very clearly. He is very good-natured as well. Contrary to what some have said, I have had great experiences with Vicky at the front desk. She is great at her job and knows how to handle the complicated insurance landscape. The whole team at this office is great and I plan on staying here for as long as I live in the area. read more

Dr. Fong is very gentle and sweet. I've been going to him for seven years for check-ups, contact lenses, frames, etc. and he's always been very consistent and considerate, making sure to ask what's new and if anything is bothering your eyes. He also keeps me up with the newest lense care for contact lense wear-ers. He seems to thoroughly enjoy his job. read more

Dr. Fong is friendly, informative, and really makes an effort to get to know you. His office also offers a selection of frames and sunglasses. The only real downside is that he's always booked up so you need to make an appointment at least a month ahead of time. Highly recommended! read more

Great chair side manner. Thorough and friendly. I had no complaints.

Dr. Fong and his staff are so pleasant and professional - so different from the experience I had down the street last year at a flashier optometrist a block away (next to the Starbucks). They also accommodated me rather last-minute, which was another bonus. read more

I've been seeing (no pun intended) Dr. Fong for around 10 years. Dr. Fong is very nice and loves to talk and share stories about his children. He always has a smile on his face and doesn't make you feel like he's rushing things, which I like. Treatment-wise I have no complaints and for that I rate him 5 stars. Parking is difficult but there are several buses that take you straight there. The main thing is, If you're looking for a great Optometrist, Dr. Fong will treat you right. read more
