This is the classic, near Westside Indy donut & bakery shop. CASH only, but it is worth the drive to West 16th & Lafayette Road & White River Parkway. Just up from 16Tech or the IUPUI Campus and East of IMS. The old counter ordering queue gives you a chance to look at the temptations in the glass display case while figuring out how much CASH Only you have to spend. They have cakes and other stuff, but everyone goes for the doughnuts! Service is always quick, friendly and efficient and the neighborhood looks a little intimidating but parking is available right in front on the street and everyone keeps an eye out for each other. As a healthcare professional, it's nice that Long's Donuts is open early. When you start at 6 am, 5:30 am is enough of an opening time to swing in, pick out some donuts for you and your colleagues, and leave with plenty of time to get to the medical center. I don't know of any other donut/pastry place that opens that early. The donuts are your basic kind-- nothing "fancy," no fusions. Everyone loves the glazed donuts right out of the oven, though my personal fave are the blueberry cake donuts. I'm not usually a blueberry kind of person but those are just too good. Also just an FYI but the area sometimes has people loitering around outside the shop but these days there is often a policeman there. Definitely recommend overall but BRING CASH. I always have to scrounge around for loose dollar bills (thankfully the prices are decent!) since they only take cash. read more

Historic, affordable, and delicious! I am a HUGE donut person, and Long's is a must-visit in Indy. I usually prefer more fancy donuts with fillings, they have a lot more old-school standard selection (glazed, cake donut, apple fritter, etc). But I truly believe the best regular glazed donut in the city is here. The prices are outrageously reasonable, although they only accept cash, so make sure to have some handy. The cinnamon apple fry and the regular glazed are probably my two favorites. A lot of donut places have come and gone over the past few years, but Long's has always remained the staple in Indy. My, my, my!!! I have been coming here since I was knee high. I moved away from Indy and a lot has changed but Longs Bakery has not changed. You can smell the sweet aroma of baked good as soon as you park your car. I ordered $30.00 of baked goods because I have been able to find anything like Longs bakery anywhere. Yes I stocked up with yeast, cake, brownies and, apple fritters to last me for days. (at least I hope). Went to check out this bakery today...OMG!! I'll just start with saying there was a line..and with good reason. Lots of choices and everything we ordered was very tasty and fresh. We got a couple of the Mary Ann's to try later(cake,cream and covered in chocolate), but started with a long John with Carmel icing and whippy cream inside ...next we tried some iced cake(blueberry, chocolate and cinnamon) also tried the regular glazed yeast Plenty of people helping and serving everyone, all very freindly and it appeared clean inside. Definitely a carb friendly place . The outdoor signage says it all cookies, rolls, cakes, pies--bread! I had peanut butter cookies .70 each (pro tip warm them up and add jelly) . I also had a caramel cream filled donut and a German chocolate brownie. Don't judge . The donut was soft . The brownie was soft and decadent . An employee gave me tips on what might not be so child friendly at my 8pm pick up time.Cali jet lag is real. So no chocolate covered , cream filled cake for us. This is an Indianapolis stable. Their blueberry cake donut is iconic. This small establishment has an old timey feel. It's cash only and there is no where to sit. But the donuts are delicious. I went Saturday morning at 7:30am where on weekdays the line is out the door, this day there were only a couple people and it went so fast. Driving home through Indy after a long day of hiking, and my husband gets a hankering for something sweet. My youngest suggested getting a donut from a National chain, Ew! Let's hit up Yelp and see what other Yelpers suggest. Of course we find all the five star reviews for Long's Bakery, and we decided to give it a try. We walked in, and there was one person checking out ahead of us, but within 30 seconds, five more people hopped in line. We got a mix of yeast, yeast filled, and cake donuts...and every single one of them were the best donuts we ever had! They were so fresh, and delicious! If perfection came in donut form, surely this was it! The service at the counter was outstanding. I wish I had caught the woman's name last night who helped us make our selections, because I would definitely commend her on her service and how she talked up the bakery and the baked goods. I've been hearing about Long's Bakery for a long time! My grandma who is well into her 80's has been going here since she was younger. Do not be dissuade by the outer appearance of the shop-- for it is a GEM of a place located in Indiana! My friend and I got 1/2 dozen donuts (2 cinnamon twist, 1 Apple fritter, 1 blueberry, 1 glazed twist, 1 chocolate covered Bavarian creme) and it cost me $6.20 for ALL. I was in charge of dessert for Christmas and did not feel like making anything. I drove down to Longs on Xmas Eve and the line was not too bad. First off cash only! They employees has it down to a science. The line looks long but moves fast. The gingerbread cookies were very good. They were soft and had a great spice taste but not overwhelming. The brownies chocolate and German chocolate were just amazing. Crowd favorite hands down. The chocolate and vanilla cupcakes as well. I also got a variety of cookies that were so good. I was very excited to visit Long's. They are cash only, so be prepared before you visit. I went there at 5:45 am and there was no line and easy parking, but the area wasn't the best. Onto the donuts. I thought they were okay. I ordered the donut holes, yeast donut, and a chocolate donut. Maybe the donut holes had too much sugar on them for me, but it left a filmy texture in my mouth (I can't really explain it). The yeast and chocolate donut were a bit too heavy for me. I went to Longs in the morning and this was extremely busy. This is a cash only establishment. We didn't know that ahead of time but there is a gas station across the street with an atm. The line was out of the door but it did move at a good rate. The service was quick and they were nice. The surroundings are not horrible but definitely low key. The donuts were great. The strawberry donut with sprinkles and the pecan roll were the best. I also tried the glazed donut which was great and the blueberry cake donut which was okay. read more

Neighborhood joint. Located across from a strip club. Parking is very limited. Very popular spot with a long line. Maybe my expectations were set too high as it is supposed to be one of the top 25 places in America for donuts. Drove a couple hours to get there. Donuts were nothing special. Better than Dunkin but there are obviously other bakeries with better donuts. We also bought a peach pie, which was fantastic. I hate to be one of those people who pooh-poohs all over everyone's fun, but unfortunately in this case, I must pooh-pooh. Or, at least, I must counter the enthusiastic reviews with my less-than-enthusiastic review. We got four different donuts: a cinnamon fried, a blueberry cake, a glazed twist and a Mary Jane. The donuts were ... well, they were fine, bordering on just "meh." My favorite of the ones we got was the blueberry cake, but even that one was iffy: the donut itself was a radiantly hued violet color that was probably achieved with some food coloring. I'm not down with extraneous food coloring, especially in donuts, so that turned me off. The glazed twist was undercooked in the middle, and very dense. (See my photo of said undercooked donut.) How in the world do you undercook a donut?! I've never had that happen to me in three-plus decades of eating donuts. Twists are supposed to be light and fluffy, and this one was more like an undercooked sweet pretzel. Not good! Of course, I finished it all because I'm a pig, but I won't be getting my glazed twists from Long's. Glazed twist donuts are my favorites, and I've never had a worse one than I had here, sad to say. My kids got frosted cupcakes, and they didn't finish them. That kind of tells you something. The Mary Jane was the winner of the donuts that we got. I'd liken the Mary Jane to a Hostess Cupcake on steroids. If you like Hostess Cupcakes, you will probably like this one. Be sure to bring cash, because they don't accept credit or debit. Also, there will most certainly be a line, so you'll need to exercise patience. And guess what: There's only street parking, so you probably won't find any place to park and you'll need to circle a few times. All of these things, including the just-average donuts, just make me not want to come back to Long's, especially when there are other donut joints in Indianapolis that are making much better donuts. read more

I cry for you Indianapolis. An ugly cry. Because of the glowing reviews and photos - I had high hopes that a dreary drive into Indy would pay off with yummy deliciousness at the end. Instead, I encountered a donut shop in a sketchy part of town dealing inedible diabetes infused treats. Now, make no mistake, I have zero problems risking my life for awesome food. I ain't never scared. I will go into the worst parts of town to get my fill if necessary. However, Longs just didn't deliver. The glazed donuts are intensely sugary. My kids love sugar and they couldn't even finish them. In the end we tossed them. The yeast consistency was good but that sugar. Please hold the fructose. I must admit that living in Chicagoland has spoiled me. I have access to a smorgasbord of excellent donuts where there is hardly ever any disappointments. read more
