So this review is based on an Apple Fritter that my son bought for me while I was in Indy last week. The Apple Fritter was $6 but it was huge (6 - 8" big - see attached photo). It was big, well made with plenty of apples and the glaze was done to perfection. I really like Apple Fritters if you can't tell. My son and his girlfriend showed me the other donuts they bought and they also looked good although I did not try them. Next time in the downtown area, I will make it a point to stop by and visit in person. I need a donut like a hole in my head but can't resist. read more

With 15 locations in Central Indiana, or at least relatively close to Central Indiana, Jack's Donuts is an ever-increasing donut presence here in my hometown. I was downtown for a 5k event and decided to stop by Jack's on my way back to my car. Located about a block away from the Indiana Statehouse, this Jack's Donuts is on the ground floor of an older office building. It offers a handful of small tables inside and I believe 3-4 outside during nicer weather. Today definitely qualified as nicer weather. I would have a hard time calling this location truly accessible. While you can get here easily enough and downtown tends to have an abundance of accessible parking spots, this entryway is just hugely weird. It is a two-sided doorway, though there's a huge column right in the middle that blocks clear entry to either door. I was able to make it in my manual wheelchair, though I have a hard time picturing someone in a motorized chair having an easy go of it. Once you're inside, however, it's super easy and the interior is definitely wheelchair friendly. There's virtually nothing Jack's could do about this column - it's not a choice they made. It's part of the building. The ordering counter is super obvious here. The employee working the counter was friendly and helpful. The selection was a little more limited than I expected - especially since downtown seems to be picking up, PopCon is also going on this weekend, and we had our 5k. So, my first choice wasn't available. I opted simply for a couple glazed donuts. They didn't have any sort of fountain iced tea, though the employee did offer to sell me a bottle of iced tea with a cup of ice. I did appreciate the "outside the box" thinking. However, I opted for a large iced coffee. I like that Jack's has a large iced coffee that is truly large. So many places seem to go 16-ounce and 20-ounce for their sizes. Jack's has a 32-ounce large. I mean, I won't sleep tonight but at least I truly got a large. I ate at a small table inside. I'd just finished a 5k in the sun and actually appreciated sitting inside. Business was steady, but I never felt rushed. Jack's has quite a variety of donuts and a solid drink variety. Like most donut shops, they also sell various t-shirts and Jack's related items. Today is National Donut Day, though I'm not aware that they were having any sort of special (or at least I wasn't told about one). Prices are pretty solid for donuts and consistent with the market for the coffee drinks. This is not my first time at this Jack's. In fact, I'm surprised I've never reviewed it. I do like this location. It's relatively close to my office, though I almost never get over here unless I'm downtown for an event. With 15 locations (probably about 10 truly in Central Indiana with others in Muncie, Anderson, Kokomo, Crawfordsville, and New Castle), it's relatively easy to get to a Jack's and I'm not sure I truly consider it a destination donut shop. I really like this spot, but I'm not sure I'd drive from my Lawrence home to visit it (my usual shop is at Fort Ben). That said, this was definitely a good experience. The donuts were good, the iced coffee was awesome, the employee was friendly, and despite the accessibility concerns the atmosphere was enjoyable. For those in the downtown area, this is definitely a solid option to satisfy the donut craving. read more

Standard donuts. Have had three times now in all, tried both varieties of cake and yeast. Will not comment on cake donuts as these are not my jam. Yeast, on the other hand, very much is. I went on a Sunday morning around 10:00. There was a bit of a line, but not bad. Parking right on the Circle will always be tricky. I got half a dozen assorted donuts to go. The price was great and service was okay, but I expected more variety in the donuts! We were craving donuts that morning and I'm not sure it hit the spot. Finally got to stop into Jacks this year after missing it during COVID hours last time I was in Indy. The donuts did not disappoint! We rolled by the shop for a dozen Sunday morning and were swiftly served. While tempted by the basketball size bearclaws.... Seriously they are bigger than your face. We did a mixed set of everything from the jelly filled to Bavarian cream to sprinkle, Oreo crumble and caramel. The Anderson store is NOT good & I think POC might make them nervous. This Tiger Tail that I just attempted to eat has to be from yesterday because it's super dry & stale; I noticed they have 2 separate trays, so they must give the fresh one's to their preferred customers... Also, they lady who was supposed to be ringing me up was so busy talking to the guy behind me & NOT acknowledging my presence, that I stood there looking like Dumb & Dumber & waited about 2 minutes while this bag of overpriced, dry donuts just sat there... All these donuts have the right amount of chewiness. The dough is fresh and very well made. It's a quality donut. If you're downtown make sure to pick up some donuts! $8 for 1/2 dozen. It's right by monument circle, near the state building. Staff was so helpful. I asked for a few specific donuts and they were nice enough to let me know that they only sell that kind on a certain day or that they are making some fresh now. One thing I'd like to see is an updated list of donuts they have that day on their website. I wanted a tiger tail and I was told that was only available on Friday. I wanted a powdered Bavarian (on website) and they didn't have any. I was able to get other yummy things, but an updated list would be really great. I would give a zero if I could for lack of decency. I searched for local donuts and found this place. When we walked in, there were two employees, one white male, who was in a loud discussion about women's rights with the only other customer, an older white male. The other employee was an African American male, and both employees looked in their 20s. We got glazed, apple fritter, and Boston creme donuts and decided to eat there. This was our mistake. The loud discussion continued as more customers came in. Each person that entered looked at everyone else and was very uncomfortable, but the employee talking couldn't seem to read the room. The other employee was the only one working while we were there. The discussion turned to racism, black people, bodily autonomy...all while customers were silent, other than ordering. An African American couple came in, but the discussion continued. They walked out after whispering to each other. At one point, when the African American employee walked near the other employee to get something, the older customer said, 'Now, I don't mean any of this about you." Still, the white employee continued. As we left, my husband, who never says anything negative about people, said, "That was the most inappropriate thing I've ever seen an employee do." We will never go back, that's for sure. But, hey - the donuts were delicious. read more

I arrived in Indianapolis last night and saw Jack's Donuts on the way to my hotel. I was excited to try it, but as soon as I stepped through the door, my feeling of elation sunk faster a ship with a hole. It was packed, which is understandable- it's in the heart of Indy, and it seems to be relatively popular. I waited for about ten minutes, which was fine- I was just happy about the prospect of breakfast. But when I arrived the counter, I found the service was lacking at best, negligent at worst. The doughnuts were dry, and the cider wasn't cider- it was apple-cinnamon syrup that was pumped into a cup of hot water. Jack's HQ: you need to look at this location's customer service. It needs a nice spring cleaning treatment. Based on many reviews here, you can see that the products at Jack's are great. I love this location and will normally always stop in for a sweet treat when I'm in the area. Over the last few times, however, the customer service has been beyond horrible. Like, make you feel so uncomfortable and rushed and unwelcomed that it's best to go elsewhere. Recently, I asked what a specific donut was. He told me, so I said I was interested. My coworker noticed that he put the wrong donut in the bag, so I made sure it was the one that I wanted. He threw the wrong donut back into the display and acted as if it was the end of the world. So, i'm not sure if the guy at the Front is Jack or whomever. He was there every time. Very nice friendly gentlemen and is pretty consistent on all his food. I ended up going 2 of my four days in Indy for my GF's coffee and breakfast. The Mocha's there are pretty legit and tasty. The sizing is insane, wayyyyyy to much for morning coffee. This comes from someone who can have a C4 in the morning. Ohh lord. I ended up having a creme brulee latte my last day there and it was delicious. The donuts are coming from my gf's review and not from me. We got the cinnamon donut with sprinkles. Usually, her picky butt won't eat much of a pastry, but she ate the whole thing. So, that must mean it was pretty impressive. The other positive side of things was, it was literally a 4 minute walk from the hotel we were at, and the prices were fare. Tonight was my last foray into this donut establishment For the life of me, I can't understand why this brand of donuts is popping up all over Indianapolis instead of Long's Bakery! If they weren't so gosh-darned convenient, I would probably go someplace else. The donuts are fine, even good. The donuts cost more than I would prefer but they are generally considered huge. My coworkers tend to gobble them up when I bring them in. My biggest problem? The service is a bit rude and each time I go, I leave feeling a bit rankled. I feel like I am bothering them for requesting some donuts. And I don't really think that is what "Jack" was thinking when he created Jack's Donuts. I've gone to other locations before and I haven't had the same issues there. They seem to have a Brisk coffee business as well but I haven't tried that. So in summary, they make some good Donuts in a convenient downtown location across from the capitol on Market Street, but just beware you might not get incredible service. read more
