It's a regular donut shop. I was so excited to try this place based on reviews. I had to stop to grab cash prior, upon arriving there was no street parking. Then I was met with a long wait and once we got up both donuts we wanted were already sold out. The donuts we got as second choices were not very fresh tasting and very sub par. Every time I took these in to work they'd get demolished, everyone knows Long's and their famous classic donuts in the plain white box. But I'd like to rave about my most recent experience! I stopped by to settle a craving on a mid Saturday and it quickly filled up, the awesome ladies of Long's descended on us and tackled the line, I thought would last forever! I was amazed that this bakery is open to 10pm. Most unusual. I got there about 630pm and they had a line of people and a security guard chatting with everyone. My best friend told me about Long's when she lived in Downtown almost two years ago. As a donut purist, of sorts, it's been on my list ever since: I really enjoy the simplicity of a glazed donut, and I had heard that you'd be hard-pressed to find one like Long's. Since I'm a late-to-bed, late-to-rise sorta gal, I never make it out early enough to stand in that infamous line. Finally, I coerced my dad to stop by before work one day and, true to his word, he trudged up to the counter, grabbed a couple glazed, and one chocolate-iced. I like my donuts classic and tried the glazed later in the day, eating most as-is while heating up a little piece for comparison sake. Is it BETTER than Krispy Kreme?...I wouldn't go that far (I love Krispy Kreme glazed donuts). But it's formidable, especially at $0.70/donut. Of course, my opinion might have changed a bit had I ate it hot, steaming, and slightly sleep-deprived. I wish their labels for the donuts were more readable. I've got the original glazed and the one with the chocolate icing. Original glazed seemed to just came out. The price itself was so cheap. I'm always up to come and pick up some donuts from here. There are tasty and inexpensive. You can get different varieties of the donuts. MAKE SURE YOU BRING CASH!!!! If you know me, I love me some donuts! I try to get the best donuts in each city that I visit and found Long's on here. It was close to where I was working so I stopped by. It definitely looks like a staple in the neighborhood as there were cars out in front. From the reviews and the people inside, the yeast donut was the most popular as it is a glazed donut. I got that, Apple cinnamon fries, and cinnamon fries. I thought the yeast donuts were cool, but those Apple cinnamon fries and cinnamon fries are a problem! I LOVE Longs donuts. They are hands down the best in the city and I crave them often. The quality of donuts is a 5 star for sure! That said, they get a 3 star rating overall because THEY ONLY TAKE CASH. How on earth can you only take cash in 2021??? This has nothing to do with Long's (they're fantastic!) but the area wasn't so great when I went, so make sure you lock your car doors! Recently I was raving about my favorite Chicago donut shop when a friend asked me, "But are they better than Long's?" His question stopped and made me think: "Were they?" This called for a thorough investigation, because I couldn't go through life without an answer. I popped in around 4:45 PM on a Monday, and sure enough, there was a line. (Has anyone who's reviewed this place not waited in line?!) I wasn't going to complain about a few people in front of me because (01) I know they're worth the wait and (02) I had time to make an executive decision about whether I was going with the applesauce donut or a caramel long john. They had just run out of my favorite, the blueberry cake, and I was trying to be "good". I looked at the applesauce donut in all its round cake glory, then the equally-appetizing fried yeast long john, looked again, and again...cake or yeast, cake or yeast...as the line dwindled and more customers began to walk out, I began to panic. I couldn't make up my mind. This was much harder than I thought it was going to be...and I'm never on the west side...and I don't know when I would be coming back to try the other... "Can I help you?" asked the Long's employee. Uh oh, the time to decide was now. "Umm...I'd like an applesauce donut please." I told her. "Okay," she said. "Anything else?" "Umm..." I stammered.
