    Outlaw Ribeye
    Okari O.

Visited for lunch, shortly after the lunch rush. Tried to get on a waitlist ahead of time, but online I received a message "just come on in, there's no wait". When we got inside the host told us the wait was about 15 minutes. Boo, one big reason why you're not five stars right there. Got seated, and once there I saw that the majority of the restaurant was empty. There were maybe only 7 other tables occupied, so why the wait then? Our server was fantastic. I'm part of their e-club and got a free appetizer. I chose the sweet and spicy boneless chicken. This was SO GOOD - would highly recommend. There was plenty for 3-4 people to share as an app. Ordered the Outlaw ribeye as it's supposed to be a big piece of meat. During lunch the entrees get only one side, at dinner you supposedly get two. I got the mashed potatoes. I got the peach iced tea which I wasn't a big fan of. We were served a loaf of bread to start us off which was very hard to cut and I wish we'd gotten another one given our group size. Mashed potatoes: great. Steak: great, it was cooked as I liked and had a good taste. I told the server it was my birthday and he got me an ice cream on the house. Bonus points for this, this was great!

    Table is absolutely disgusting!

We were seated immediately, it wasn't busy when we arrived. We place our order, we get our appetizer so far so good. Our salads take 20 minutes to be brought out and right after that our steaks arrive. It starts to get busy and we never see our server again. We had to ask the seating lady for our ticket and to- go plates. LH maybe you should set a designated day/time for staff to thoroughly clean tables/lamps/menus. I wonder what the kitchen looks like.

Never had a steak here so I went this weekend with my family. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated. The bread and butter were great then we got our meals and it was delicious. Can't wait to go again. I had Flos Filet with the lobster tail.

Water spots from dish washer. I had to ask for plastic utensils, this makes me not want to touch these.

This is review is based on the Longhorn Steakhouse on North 10th street in McAllen Texas. When my family of 4 arrived, he place was practically empty. I was surprised it was empty despite being a Sunday evening (around 7pm). As we were walked to our table, we walked past two other empty tables were families had left but the mess they had left behind hadn't been cleaned yet. There was also a lot of crumbs and other food chunks on the floor in the surrounding area. The table we were taken to had to be cleaned up before we could sit down. As our orders were taken, I kept looking at the other unclean tables. A family of three was eating at a booth behind us. When they left, their mess was also left relatively untouched for a good while. It took about 20 minutes into our arrival before anyone began to take care of the tables around us. Again, the place didn't look packed there seemed to be more than enough staff to have attended to the matter. Regarding the food, it was delicious, which is why I give it three stars. I ordered a medium rare ribeye, which they knew how to prepare properly. It's hard finding restaurants in the Rio Grande Valley that can prepare a medium rare steak without it being chewy but soft to the bite. My concern with the waitress that night is that I had ordered steak fries with my meal. At this place, your steak comes with 1 side order and if you want a second one, they charge you for it. I had ordered steak fries but when the plate arrived they were regular fries. The waitress told me, "We ran out of steak fries but I brought you these instead." I told her that I wish she would have told me before bringing the plate. She said that they taste the same anyway. She did offer to take them away and bring something else but I was already hungry and decided to eat my meal, though I didn't appreciate the lack of notice. Other than that, she was attentive to all of our other needs.

I should've know better than to order salmon from a steak place. My salmon was raw inside. No, I do not recommend this place.

We ordered a few appetizers and were surprised (and excited) to see that Cheddar's brought back their Homestyle Onion Rings. Unfortunately, that's where things started to go downhill. It took about 15-20 minutes for the appetizer to come out, even though the restaurant wasn't busy. No apology for the delay, and when it finally arrived, it wasn't even hot. The onion rings had more breading than onion and were clearly not the same as the original recipe -- very disappointing. My side Caesar salad took forever as well, and when it arrived, the lettuce wasn't fresh, with several pieces showing brown spots and way too much dressing. I decided to try the Filet Mignon that's currently on the limited-time menu, which is advertised as their "most tender cut." Sadly, there was nothing tender about it. The chicken strips we ordered were also extremely tough and rubbery. Our server disappeared for long stretches, which only added to the frustration. We hadn't been to Cheddar's in a long time because the quality and service had gone downhill -- and this visit confirmed that nothing has changed. Honestly, a sirloin steak at Applebee's would have been more tender than the "filet" I was served. Sadly, we won't be returning anytime Based on our experience yesterday, it feels like Cheddar's may have shifted from a value-driven "scratch kitchen" to more of a mass-market, less-consistent chain under corporate ownership -- which might explain the issues we encountered. Darden should do better as a company and stop buying out good restaurants and turning them into junk.

During our first brunch visit, the waitstaff's enthusiastic recommendations felt a bit overwhelming--almost to the point of pressure--but we chalked it up to eagerness to help new guests get acquainted with the menu. The space has a club-like vibe, likely aiming for something virtual and modern, but compared to places we've experienced globally, it didn't quite hit the mark. We started with a dish we believed was our appetizer, but it turned out to be something else entirely--our actual order followed and ended up being almost a duplicate but with much less flavor. That made the meal feel heavier than expected. My husband found his plate fairly average, but we understand that new places often need time to refine their offerings. When the bill came, we noticed we were charged for the original appetizer. No fuss--we paid for what we ate and had the rest boxed up. Unfortunately, the green chilaquiles didn't reheat well and lacked flavor the second time around, as well. I dislike throwing food away, but it wasn't worth a sour stomach and ruining the rest of the day. So, I opted to throw it out. Because the restaurant came recommended a couple of weeks later by a friend, we gave it another try. Again, the staff greeted us warmly, though they forgot to bring out the complimentary bread. My husband politely reminded the manager, who graciously handled it himself. This time we brought my daughter. She ordered the stuffed chilaquiles, we had been served previously as an appetizer. The plate this time was overly drenched in a bland sauce. I requested salt to balance it out, and my daughter eventually gave up, scraping off most of the excess and leaving the rest. She was disappointed and left with an upset stomach. My husband mistakenly ordered the regular chilaquiles--made with an enchilada-style sauce instead of a fresh salsa--which was unfortunately a miss again. I had tried to warn him, but the loud club-style music made conversation difficult. I had ordered the same dish on my first visit and left most of it untouched for the same reason: the overwhelming amount of sauce that turned everything mushy. In the end, we paid for a meal that none of us finished -- not once but twice. While we appreciate the staff's energy and hospitality, the food's execution just didn't meet our expectations. Sadly, we don't anticipate returning.

I was going to go with 4 stars, but then thought about it ... they did everything right. I happened to be in this general area, while visiting the famous main branch of the McAllen Public Library, which holds the record for being the largest library on one level in either the U.S., North America, or the world. Dinnertime was approaching and a barbecue place sounded just like what I needed. Cowboy Chicken is in a strip mall close enough to the library. Parking is easy and, once inside, you go through a short line to order what you want to eat, with some people eating in and others taking out. I do like to eat this regional barbeque food on occasion, and it's something I do at least once every time I'm in the Houston metro area. I always go for the 2 item combination platter. However, in the Houston area, I don't seem to land on places that offer both brisket and boneless chicken. So, in Houston, I get brisket and turkey ... and I'm still a happy camper. At this Cowboy Chicken, I asked if I could get chicken as one of the 2 meats and if it could be (a) boneless piece(s). The young lady helping me said that I could and was very helpful. I took my tray to the simple but airy eating area and started to dig in. Everything, including the sides, was delicious. The chicken and the brisket were very much to my liking. I'm not being a big baby by always asking for boneless stuff, but who wants to mess with bones and scales when eating outside of their home or at a backyard event? I wanted to add that the portion size was satisfying and that the pricing was appropriate. This "main" Cowboy Chicken has a lot of good things going for it - the food, the service, the portions, the value, and, above all, what I perceived to be a strong focus on the customer. So there you have it. If visiting the impressive main branch of the McAllen Public Library and get hungry, you might stop by Cowboy Chicken for a meal. How does that sound for a field trip?
