After another sleepless night of dealing with a respiratory infection, wheezing and coughing, I arrived at 6AM and was immediately greeted and whisked into a room for evaluation. They were on me like my dawgs at dinnertime. So attentive and empathetic to my condition. After the nurses completed the initial intake, Dr. Lewis listened to my description of symptoms patiently, confirmed the rattle in my lungs, ordered an x-ray and breathing treatment. Because of my history with asthma, he recommended a home nebulizer for emergencies. In my 66 yeas, no asthma specialist or family physician has ever recommended this, and I am so grateful!! Not breathing well after an incident like this creates anxiety, but having this device to supplement my inhalers definitely relieved my stress. The nurse supervisor who packed me off 1.5 hours later was just precious. Her manner, thoroughness, good humor and adorable country accent had me smiling as I walked out the doors. Thank you one and all - from Security for greeting me and alerting nurses to my arrival before I made it to the front desk, to both nurses checking me in, the x-ray tech, the supervisor and doctor. I was well cared for and am on the road to recovery!

Dr. Peña prescribed meds, and they are spot-on. Hobbled in to the ER barely able to walk, and today the meds have me up and about with minimal discomfort. I wish for everyone to experience this type of care. St David's can be very proud of their Bastrop operation. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! David Musgrave

THE LOCATION IS IN THE BACK!!!…read more First, it was impossible to find. I drove back and forth in the front multiple times, parked twice and even got out and walked around. There is a sign in the front with their name, other businesses and address but it was not clear where this office was. As you face the building there are arrows that point left but the last thing in that parking lot is Torchy's Tacos. Nowhere did it say, "around back". You literally have to leave the parking lot of the address to get there. This is not intuitive or clear. At some point I even tried to call that location and was sent to voicemail.... this was my first sign. Second, I tried to fill out the forms online the night before. Because I needed portal access, I was not able to do that. I literally got access when I was about to leave for the appointment. I left early because the text instructed me to get there 15 min early if I needed to fill out forms. I got there early (but also wasted time lost in the parking lot). When I got there, I checked in with the QR code as instructed and took a seat. This is very impersonal and no one gave me forms to fill out. Why would I/should I get there 15 minutes early, as requested, if you aren't going to give me forms to fill out when I get there??? Third, my apt was at 10:40 and it was 30 minutes after that before anyone even spoke to me or gave me forms to fill out, that was after I initiated contact with the front desk. This was very poor customer service across the board. The waiting room is also very small with people packed in there. It seems like a huge space behind the scenes, so the size of the waiting room makes no sense. There were people waiting outside and the people in wheelchairs were struggling to find places that weren't in the way of others. My tech was great and the facility seems very nice and clean but that's the extent. You lost my business in the waiting room. Of note, while sitting there, I was watching one guy get rescheduled for a second time. They tried to tell him he didn't have an appointment that day but he had the paperwork to prove it. Another elderly woman being told she would have to be reschedule because a machine broke. The front desk person was telling someone that they don't do Sunday appointments only to be corrected by another staff member and told that they do. None of this is my business but it was clear that this location lacks leadership or direction. The amount of unhappy patients was crazy. This place needs MUCH better customer service, better management or at least staff that are better trained. There was just an air of chaos in the front.

After lab tests came back clean, they scheduled a CT scan for that same evening at Baptist M&S. My appointment was scheduled for 5:30, but I arrived about 40 minutes early just in case traffic was bad. The location is great. It's right next to my OB/GYN. Check-in was also a breeze. The staff was wonderful! They checked me in, took my information, notified me that my technician was ready for me already (WOW!), let me know I didn't have a coypay, and asked me to have a seat and fill out the remaining paperwork. In about five minutes, I was called to the back. My insurance didn't want to cover the cost of the fluid injection but they approved the scan without it. The technician was very nice, and she told me I didn't have to change into a gown, take off my shoes, or anything. The scan was completed in less time than I spent in the waiting room. She helped me up, said the clinic should have my results in a few hours, and sent me on my way. I couldn't have asked for a smoother experience. I felt very well taken care of from the moment I stepped in.

Reckless and Dangerous Experience at Baylor Scott and White Urgent Care…read more I scheduled an appointment through the Baylor Scott and White app, believing I would receive care at a clinic that was fully part of the Baylor Scott and White network. When I arrived, I was shocked to learn they did not have access to the Baylor Scott and White system. Even more confusing, the building only had signage for Baylor Scott and White Urgent Care. There was no mention of NextCare or any indication that this was operated by a third party. From a patient's perspective, there was no reason to assume this was anything but a regular Baylor Scott and White facility. I came in with intense lower abdominal pain. During the brief evaluation, the provider stated it could be my appendix. That alone should have triggered immediate escalation, lab testing, or at minimum a referral to the emergency room. Instead, I was sent home with nothing but a prescription for a muscle relaxer. There were no labs, no imaging, and no follow-up instructions. I was in the same amount of pain I came in with, but now with a medication that could have masked the symptoms of a serious emergency. Thankfully, I trusted my instincts. About fifteen minutes later, I went to the Baylor Scott and White Clinic on Slaughter. The staff there took my condition seriously and quickly referred me to the emergency room. A CT scan confirmed I had acute appendicitis. I underwent emergency surgery to have my appendix removed later that day. Had I followed the guidance of the first provider and taken the muscle relaxer to rest at home, my appendix could have ruptured. That kind of delay could have led to a life-threatening infection. This was not just a poor experience. It was dangerous and could have resulted in serious harm. The most concerning part is that the provider openly acknowledged the possibility of appendicitis but still made the decision to send me home without running a single test. That is unacceptable. Masking the pain of a potentially fatal condition rather than investigating it further shows a complete lack of clinical judgment. I will be speaking with a patient ombudsman and formally submitting a complaint to Baylor Scott and White leadership. The fact that their app directed me to this location and their name is on the building means the care that happens there reflects directly on them. Patients should not be misled into thinking they are receiving Baylor Scott and White care when they are not. There needs to be full transparency about who is providing care and what services are actually available at the location. This experience was extremely unsettling. I trusted the Baylor Scott and White name and almost suffered the consequences of that trust being misplaced. I hope this review serves as a warning to others and as a call for change within the system. Patients deserve competent, transparent, and safe medical care. I nearly did not receive it.
