I was referred to this facility by my physician for an MRI on my foot. When I called to schedule…read morethe appointment, I was informed that their facility was out of network, but I wouldn't be charged anything. The facility would cover any costs incurred that my insurance didn't cover because they're new and building their business. Sounds easy for me, so I agreed to move forward with the appointment. When I arrived, I was asked to fill out lots of paperwork, all of which was normal- except the last three pages which were legal documents stating that I was responsible for anything my insurance didn't cover. The third document stated that if I was in need of financial assistant and had either a high deductible plan or was paying cash that they would offer some sort of payment for me. Well, that isn't the type of insurance I have, so I asked the administrator present for further detail. I let her know that I was uncomfortable signing the documents because I had been told that all of my expenses were covered verbally over the phone (she was actually the one that told me this) yet these documents stated otherwise. I let her know I'd be happy to sign these documents if she could provide me written documentation of what we discussed on the phone. She replied that she couldn't. I asked if she could email me a statement. Again, she said she couldn't. I replied that I didn't feel comfortable signing these documents without something in writing to protect my interest. I asked if I could take the documents home to look them over with my husband (my foot is broken, I would really like this MRI so I can get the correct treatment even if I'm feeling like this is getting weird) and she ripped them out of my hands and said that she would be shredding them. I'm sorry- how sketchy is that? I promptly left and called my doctor to let them know not to refer to the facility any more. I typically don't read these type of documents at a doctors office, yet thank goodness I did! If they're in network, great! If not, watch out.

We discussed the going rate for similar procedures in which I provided cost information for other centers against cost that Arise charged. Through the course of the discussion they offered to provide an overly generous and significant rebate of the payment I made. They delivered on the offer. My impression is that I believe they would be open to discussing being competitive to future procedures which I will definitely take them up on. One of the items that came up in the conversation was how did I view their services outside of the cost aspect. In this area the technician was very professional and upbeat. The facility is new and clean with the latest state of the art imaging machines. As I said before, in the future I will give them an opportunity for my next few procedures. As long as they can be competitive (not necessarily lowest cost) and provide great service they will get my business.

His thought process was also notably similar to the physicians we encountered at Cleveland Clinic--careful, evidence-based, and willing to consider the complexity of the entire clinical picture. Dr. Geck is well known in our area for performing emergency and complex spinal surgery. That kind of work requires far more than technical surgical skill. It requires the ability to assess a patient quickly, recognize what matters among competing findings, and make difficult decisions in high-risk situations. As the mother of a daughter with significant disabilities, I will always remember Dr. Geck as one of the physicians who treated her with genuine dignity. Her imaging was difficult and her case was complicated, but he did not dismiss her because of that complexity. I took a seat away from the front. The receptionist left the patient at the front to bring me my paperwork to fill in. Typical healthcare papers saying they are responsible for nothing that happens. Ten minutes before my appointment and the receptionist call me to the front, took my paperwork, asked if I had any questions, confirmed all was covered by my insurance and sent me back to my seat. Right at 8AM, I was brought to the back. The technician who did my ultrasound was pleasant and friendly. She made me feel at ease. The whole process was relatively quick. She brought me to a private waiting room to wait for my next appointment. This gave me time to eat the turkey wrap I had and drink water cause I was thirsty. Within ten minutes, 20 minutes before I was supposed to have my mammogram, I was greeted and taken to a private room. Got dressed in the ugly gown they handed me.
