I'm still very pleased with my entire experience with Austin Breast Imaging. As soon as my doctor sent over the lab order, they called to schedule the appointment. Everything was handled smoothly. When I arrived, my insurance card had been updated, and taking care of that was a breeze. The technician was terrific, as each one has always been before. She showed professionalism in her care. I always have great confidence in the quality of images that are taken. I've never had an insurance issue come up. Annually things are processed correctly. read more

I started going to this clinic when Dr. Deborah O'Connell wa the owner. The clinic was amazing. I continued going after it was purchased by Dr. Rose...for the first couple of years it was good. In the last few years this imaging center has gone completely downhill. If I could give 0 stars I would. They do not seem to care about their patients time. They are impossible to get a hold of and then don't even call you back when you leave messages. I have had to call the main location in Houston in order to get the Austin location to ever call me back. They never have a radiologist at their south location which is honestly quite ridiculous.. read more

I have come here for years. When I started, I loved the staff and care I received. A few years ago, things changed - everyone here was more gruff, and generally not as gentle. I wasn't too bothered - no one expects to enjoy this! - but I was so happy to come back and find that it's the same old place I remember from before. They sent a bill months after the fact (even after paying the initial appointment visit fee). Thought we were done. A new bill was sent. We never received it (not even an email or letter). It went to collections. Took months of hassle to determine what this was. Could have been avoided. The billing cycle and expectations of these services needs to be explained and handled better. ADVOID this place!!! Horrible customer service. Tanja the office manager is a joke!! She talks over you, no empathy at all!! The front office staff has changed completely. Grace was not very welcoming. This place is going downhill - no empathy, no smiles, seems like the staff they have now is not happy and very cold towards us. We as patients can pick up on that vibe. My wife was seen here recently and we won't be going back. They refuse to let me talk to the doctor on either of her visits. They did a bunch of extra testing the first time she went and then forced her into a biopsy without being able to discuss it with me her husband first. No test results given or shown just she needed the test due to lump that was already guessed to be benign. Biopsy day came and agin not allowed back to talk to anyone and they had her sign forms that she picked that doctor which was not in fact true. This place is not spouse friendly at all. read more

UPDATE: I just got a $723 bill from these people. The reason my claim was denied was because they had 90 days to file the claim and missed that deadline. Do not use this imaging place! Find another in-network even if you have to drive several miles. I cannot believe this place stays in business and can operate so horribly. I see why their ratings are so low. My doctor had to call my mammogram in a 2nd time and still no call from them to schedule it. I called to try and get it scheduled. First call they were closed for lunch with no option to leave a message. Second time I called in the morning and got a voicemail that said leave your name & number and we'll call you back. To then hear a message stating the inbox was no longer taking messages and hung up on me. If I don't hear back I am going to see if my insurance allows for me to go somewhere else even if it's the other end of town. This is ridiculous. read more

I'm sharing my review here as well as on Google, because it's been an extremely frustrating experience and I think folks should know how hard it will be not to be put into collections by these people. I'm livid - I've never had a collection in my life this is obnoxious. --------------- I'm pretty frustrated after my experience here. The mammogram was just fine, but I've been unable to pay my bill for months, and now I'm getting notices threatening collection. The payment website on the bill doesn't work at all, I've been trying to access it for weeks. Their phone system is down I can't get through to the billing department. I wasn't even able to send an email via their website because I kept getting an error message. It feels real scammy. UPDATE: It's been three weeks since I've emailed the address opello@austinbreastimaging.com as per the Google Review Response, and still no response. UPDATE (Late 2024): Someone finally contacted me after I emailed everyone I could find on staff again and they took my payment from the front desk. The receptionist was the most helpful person I spoke with. UPDATE TO THE UPDATE (February 2025): It's now been over a year and I'm getting collection texts after my payment was taken and a receipt received. Do yourself a favor and NEVER go here. read more

UPDATE: ONE YEAR LATER, I get a bill again for the preventative mammogram I got on 12/23. They STILL haven't billed the correct insurance despite calling the site billing manager who said they would take care of the billing. Now my insurance company said they will help me and they will call this facility to help them process the claim. How ridiculous is this!!!! DO NOT GO HERE unless you want to spend a year resolving a $800 bill that should've easily been $0. This time on the bill, they did add that I must pay it immediately to avoid further collection activity. So they will not bill my insurance but they want to send my bill to collections? **My bill is STILL not resolved** DON'T GO HERE AND LISTEN TO THE GOOGLE REVIEWS. I thought I would be an exception and unfortunately, I got billed $800 for a preventative mammogram even though my insurance covers it. The actual service was great but it's NOT WORTH IT STILL because you will spend literally hours trying to get the bill fixed. It's been 3 months and 5 phone calls and I just got another $800 bill and nothing has been fixed. It's been very very stressful to try to get someone to answer the phone and help me. Their billing department keeps taking my insurance but bills a random insurance like Aetna. Then they bill the correct insurance but now it's saying denied because pt can't be identified. I called my insurance and the office said they take my insurance, so there's a problem with how they are submitting it. I would give negative stars if I could. It seems that they billed my insurance outside allowed 30 day billing window and didn't respond to subsequent inquiries from United Healthcare. Now, after 6 months of service I receive a bill telling me that UHC didn't respond to their billing - which is a big fat lie. Our insurance tells me since the fault is at the Austin Breast Imaging's end, their contract with UHC doesn't allow them to bill me and that they are trying to strong arm me to make up for their billing department's mistake. The billing number has more than 1 hr long wait and it's a nightmare. Avoid! read more

PROS: (1) Self-pay price for bone density scan is only $45, compared to $210 and $230 and other places I called. Note, that's so low that it could be cheaper to go self-pay rather than involving insurance--an insurance co-pay might be more than $45. (2) Open Saturdays. Rare. (3) Friendly and helpful staff. CONS: (1) When I initially called I had to leave a message (can't remember whether it was after-hours or they were just busy), and I asked to get a return call about pricing. Some days later, no one had ever gotten back to me. (I eventually called them again myself and got pricing over the phone.) (2) No self-pay pricing listed on the website. Imagine how many millions of calls happen in the U.S. solely because providers don't publish their pricing online making potential patients have to call to get it. read more

Staff at this location are very nice and gentle with you they take the time to explain the procedure and ask for your input. I called to schedule immediately after the referral and bam, they were able to get me in , on less than two hours. Perfect, ran an errand then back and was able to knock out 3 Dr. Alpts that were on the top do list. read more

Seriously who likes going to this doctor office? The office is very clean, bright with all the windows, and very calming if you have to come for more imaging. You can stare out the windows to love view of trees, birds playing. The bathroom has incredible view. You get your choice of gown colors. I love the salmon pink color. Each changing room is Beautifully decorated. There is relaxing music playing and exam rooms are tranquil and soothing music. Coffee, tea, water are available as you wait. Christie and Sal took good care of me during scans and ultrasound. Both ladies are super sweet, explain what is going on, and as gentle as can be. Then Jeri Su my doctor came in. She is super sweet as well. Chatted with me explained the situation. Couldn't be nicer staff of ladies to help through this. Doctor Jeri Su gave me my results and after 2 hours, I got the results in email with password protected PDF file. How nice is that, you don't have to wait in pins and needles for results. read more

I have been going to ABI for mammograms and early screening for six years and have loved their doctors and staff. But this year I went through hell trying to get my screening scheduled and then trying to get clarification on seemingly conflicting results and scheduling a follow-up. This process started in February with an online appointment request that never received a response. The scheduling voicemail is full. Here we are in mid-May, I'm still in medical purgatory, and I've probably spent a few hours a week calling, waiting on hold, and trying to parse the result with my doctor, trying to get clarification, attempting to schedule follow-up imaging, etc. From what I understand, ABI is overwhelmed with new patients because another big shop in town stopped taking a particular insurance and now ABI is the only one who takes it. The staff are doing the best they can with a bad situation, but it has seriously impacted ABI's ability to care for patients. I have never been this afraid and stressed about my breast health. read more

This is my 3rd time visiting Austin Breast Imagine. They are way more gentle than the previous place I went to. The technician takes her time with the mammogram and asks if your comfortable. The lockers, robes, drinks and ambience puts you at ease. The radiologist is amazing. Actually both radiologists I saw were fantastic. I have a family history and I want the latest technology when I have my exam and they have it. I see no reason to go anywhere else. read more

This place feels a tiny bit luxurious -- which actually helps when you're a woman of a certain age and/or required to get regular mammograms (and none of us ever look forward to that task). Previously I had gone to another local place where people go for all kinds of diagnostic imaging, and the experience felt very much like herding cattle through a bit industrial feeling office. Here there are beautiful mirrors, lamps, plush couches and pillows. Private changing rooms and lockers are available. The service is great, too -- the staff are all extremely kind and helpful, and also efficient. If you're there for a routine mammo, you'll probably be out within 20 mins. read more

I will start by saying this facility addressed me like I was a preschool teacher, then the tech asked me to show her "my girls". Meanwhile during the course of the mammo her heavily laden charm bracelet kept banging on everything. When I scheduled I was told they were in network with my insurance. When I went for my exam I asked again and they confirmed they were in network. Surprise surprise - they are not and I am being told I owe over $ 700 for a screening mammogram. Not gonna happen. The online "scheduling" does essentially the same thing. I have not gotten a call back. There was no issue getting in quickly for a screening mammogram. However, if you need follow up testing then appointments for that are 2 months out. That means a couple months of not knowing, and delay in treatment for anyone who is unfortunate enough to have a cancer detected on subsequent tests. If you have another choice for a provider, take it! read more

Their billing department made me getting this covered by insurance a nightmare. Initially my doctor did not order the imaging correctly to allow it to be covered. I had my doctor correct the order and it took sending it over to austin breast imaging three times, and then months later it took almost a week of daily calls to get it taken care of. They even sent it to collections when they just needed to take the new information and resubmit. Honestly it took up way too much of my time and thankfully knowledge (since I work in healthcare I knew what I needed) to get the situation corrected. It might be a nice comfy place but I will never return. read more

I have been trying for about 2 months to get my results from the imaging. I have left several messages for Leslie who is in charge to medical records. I have also spoken to my doctor and they have not received anything either. They have left several messages and they have been told twice that the results would be faxed to them. They have still not received. This is very bad customer service, it should not take this long to get results!!! I wish I could go back at ARA but they no longer take my insurance. I can't get a procedure done until my doctor has the results. read more

I've been going to ARA for 20 years for my mammograms, but they quit taking our insurance this year so I found Austin Breast Imaging (thanks to my gyno) and I am happy I did! I've had breast cancer and they made sure they had all of my records from ARA before my diagnostic mammogram, the scans were easy on me and the wait was not long to hear the results. The spa like atmosphere is relaxing and everyone was friendly from beginning to end. I never had an issue with ARA either, but was very nervous about changing with my history. Facilities were clean, tech was nice. Scheduling was difficult and if you're going there for the first time you need to bring copies (on a CD) of your previous images or it could take up to 30 days for results. I hand delivered a disc only to discover they close for an entire week at the end of the year. So bad on so many levels. read more

The imaging service I received was great however I have to take away 2 stars due to the Covid precautions listed on their website not being followed. As an immunocompromised person I chose them specifically for the precautions they said they followed. From their website: - All patients are screened for symptoms of COVID-19 prior to arrival/staff is screened daily - I was not screened for symptoms. -Limited number of patients allowed in waiting rooms/family members asked to stay home - I was brought to a secondary waiting room that was very small and the couches were full of patients waiting, no way to social distance at all. I would have had to sit right next to someone, less than a foot away. I chose to stand in the hallway. -Patients have the opportunity to wait in their vehicles until their appointment is ready - This one was important to me, I asked 2 different employees on the phone a day before my appt if it would be ok to wait in my car and they both said yes. When I arrived I called to say I was there and they said they are no longer allowing people to wait in their cars. -All patients and staff wear a face mask/staff also wear gloves. They were wearing masks but not gloves - not a big deal to me but should not be on the website of they don\t follow that precaution. - read more

Good luck getting an appointment here!! You call and get told to leave a message, but the voicemail is full. You try emailing and you get no response. Finally I walking in and physically had them make me an appointment, not a routine but an actual diagnostic appointment for a lump in my breast and I got an appointment for 2 months from now!! I have been going here for years and the clinical staff is great and i used to think very highly of the place. My opinion of this place has degraded. It's bad enough to worry about possibly having cancer, it's absolutely cruel to make you wait 2 months to get an appointment. read more

This is my third year of getting my mammogram done here and I cannot say enough about the care and quality of this practice. The staff is all friendly, professional and efficient and they have implemented procedures during the coronavirus mess that we are in currently to make you feel very safe and secure. Most the bad reviews I've read have been about billing but this wasn't my experience and even had I had issues I wouldn't go anywhere else. I hadn't gone for a breast exam in years because the tech at the woman's imaging center at Jefferson square made me uncomfortable and feel crappie about myself. This year I decided to suck it up and get all things checked out. This place is sweet! Every person I encountered was kind, gentle and likable. I will definitely go here again. The reason there is 4 stars is I never got the results. My doctor didn't either. They did request them later and when doing so said... no news must be good news. I had my mammogram on Thursday, April 11. On Friday, April 12, I got a call from Austin Breast Imaging. That made me nervous, thinking it was bad news to get a call so quickly. But it turned out it was a staff member calling to say my OBGYN has referred me, and would I like to schedule my appointment. I thought that was odd, but told them I had been there the day before, so no worries. A couple of weeks later, I realized I have not received results, so I called. I left a message. A week goes by, nothing. I call again. Leave a message. Nothing. I called my OBGYN. They have received nothing, say they've had a hard time getting results from ABI lately, but they can't really help bc they're busy closing up the office, as the doctor is retiring. I leave another message with Austin Breast Imaging. Nothing. I need to know whether I have a clear scan or something to worry about. This is an absolutely pathetic excuse for patient care. read more

Very rude schedulers. They initially called me because my OBGYN sent them a referral for a mammogram. When I called back, they said they did not have the referral, they said there were too many OBGYNs with the same name as my OBGYN, and if I didn't remember the exact address of the facility I saw my OBGYN, they could not make a mammogram appointment (St David's was not a good enough address). Meanwhile, I got a mammogram at Austin Breast Imaging in 2022 so they already have all my info on file and there should never have been a problem making an appointment. I have left several messages on their voicemail for the last 5 months now, including the manager, and have not even received 1 phone call back. Meanwhile, I am 50 years old, my mother and 2 of my aunts had breast cancer at my age, and my great aunt died of breast cancer. I am not sure why they are refusing to provide screenings for women in Austin who need them, but their mistreatment of patients needs to be addressed. read more
