My doctor's office is literally across the hall from this lab, so every year after my well woman's exam I end up there. And somehow... every single year... they magically bill me for something that should've been covered. At first I thought it was just one of those annoying insurance mix-ups. But after spending at least an HOUR every year playing mediator between the doctor, insurance company, and lab, it's starting to feel less like "oops" and more like a seasonal tradition. Usually they eventually fix it after I call enough times. Other times I've honestly just paid it because I value my sanity. This there were two tests I knew insurance wouldn't cover, paid for them upfront with my credit card, had the doctor separate them on a different form, AND asked for a receipt. The receipt only had the amount paid -- no description. Which already felt a little "interesting." Convenient that for some reason they have no way of putting a description what I paid for on this but every time they send me a bill it has a very accurate description of what they are billing me for. It's sad that it comes to me having to cord this interaction to protect myself. So I asked on video: "So these definitely will not be billed to insurance since I'm paying here?" Receptionist: "Yes." Fast forward to this week: guess who just got billed $36 for those exact same tests. At this point I'm not even mad about the money. It's the principle. Because I know a lot of people probably just sigh dramatically, pay the $30, and move on. But no. Not this year. This year I will be returning like a low-budget legal drama with my receipt, my credit card statement, AND my little video clip. Honestly the phlebotomists are sweet, but the front office acts like kindness costs extra. They are shockingly rude! So if this place keeps overbilling you too: fight it. Even if it's annoying. Or save yourself the headache and find a friendlier lab who doesn't routinely try to keep an extra 15- 30 from every visit. read more

Good smiles. Friendly. Location is very hard to find. Goto St David's, East Entrance aka Women's Medical Entrance (lots of construction terrible parking) then from there go up, yes up, to the first floor. Go right down the hall it's on the left. Apple Maps put me in the wrong parking lot all together. read more

I visit CPL once a year for lab work. Had such a great experience at this location! If the gods look kindly upon you, you may also end up with a phlebotomist with this rarest of skills - inserting a needle through your skin without causing any pain. When it was my turn, I sat in the chair, turned my head away and braced myself for the dreaded moment. That didn't happen. When I next looked down, it was all over. Didn't hurt. At all. Impressive. I remember saying "wow" and "thank you", but unfortunately forgot to ask her name. read more

Skip it, they are slow, incompetent, one of the worst experiences with a butterfly blood draw of my life, my hand still hurts, honestly no clue how someone hurts you with a butterfly, but I guess there is a first for everything. The ladies also stand around talking in back as if they have nothing better to do and that you are literally interrupting their day, it is called work ladies. Total a HBI situation, definitely time to clean house and frankly way too many layoffs and people needing jobs for this sort of BS. read more

I never have a long wait. The technicians are always pleasant and professional. It's very hard to draw blood from me but they succeed! I've gone here for 8 years and can say they've always done the job well read more

My review applies to the Renfert location (near Mopac and Parmer). Last week my boyfriend and I both had our blood drawn for routine labs. We had two different lab techs. Since I don't know their names, I'll call them Tech1 (mine) and Tech2 (his). Tech2 did something incorrect and one of my boyfriend's vials was rejected by the lab. He had to go back for a redraw a few days later. Tech1 was kind but gave me a large bruise that lasted about a week. Even with the supervisor's help, Tech1 did something wrong, too, and the lab rejected one of my vials, as well. When I returned for my second draw, I asked for the "most skillful person" on the team but instead I got Tech2. I even asked him if he was the same person who botched my boyfriend's draw and he denied it. Nevertheless, he tried and failed to draw my blood the second time Finally, the supervisor came and drew my blood quickly and easily. However, I will say that all three of the experiences were painful, even when the supervisor drew my blood. In all, I had to be stabbed three times by three different people with pain during and after. I'd suggest trying a different location if you need to have blood drawn. read more

Clinical Pathology Laboratories - This is five days after my blood draw. - Laboratory Testing Near Me - Austin, Texas

Went here for some bloodworm and a UA a few weeks ago. Checked in on their (iPad I think?) out front and was immediately given a cup to go pee in. Did the deed and washed hands, then went back to sit in lobby. About 10 minutes later my time had come. It has been years since I have had a blood draw, my last experience doing so wasn't great. This one was awesome. (Ya I know I sound like I have something wrong with me) but for real. I have hard to find veins, usually get jabbed a few times and have to suffer while they fish around searching. Not here. The lady why did it was young and knew her stuff and kept talking about 90% of the time, which helps when you're kinda a sissy like me. Before I knew it all was over. My insurance paid all of my ~$300 bill but about $5, got a bill for that and if you pay it online you get 20% off, pretty cool perk, especially if your bill is larger. If I have to have lab work done, i'll be back, it was as painless as it could be. read more

Clinical Pathology Laboratories - 20% off for paying bill online - Laboratory Testing Near Me - Austin, Texas

DO NOT LET THEM CONVINCE YOU TO PAY A REDUCED CASH PRICE WITHOUT BILLING YOUR INSURANCE. They are good at blood draws but the receptionists don't do crap as far as figuring out what is covered. They told my husband his test was $110 and didn't know if ins covered it, but if he didn't PAY THE REDUCED CASH PRICE THAT DAY, that he would be responsible for the full cost later. Luckily, he called the insurance and they said they do cover it and it's $9. CPL said it was more than that and CIGNA HAD TO CALL CPL cause CPL used the wrong code. Usually it's the insurance that tries to get out of paying. I'm super disappointed with their billing. Also, I fell for the same trick and payed them the discounted cash price of $50 last time cause they said I had to pay them that day if I wanted to get that price. I'm pissed I fell for it. I wish they would have just billed my ins. Too bad they don't do anything to make sure the insurance pays what they are supposed to, and puts all that work on the pt. The only reason I'm giving two stars is that they didn't mess up our blood draws or samples. read more

Just had my blood drawn and when I say I'm a wimp and pass out I'm not kidding. They were overly kind, They had me in so quick, and Jay was so helpful to distract me during the process. He was so great and so quick I will be requesting him in the future! They are absolutely amazing here read more

I know these reviews don't always show under the specific location, but this is for Renfert Way. With all the mixed reviews, I was considerably nervous but I don't know what for. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes with 3 people ahead of me. It was a Friday, rainy and surprisingly empty for them they said for Friday which is usually one of their busiest. I have tiny, rolling, easily collapsible veins and usually offer up my hands as sacrifice but say if someone is comfortable with my arms, that's fine. I've had phlebotomists apologize to me, get an assistant to hold the vials while they meticulously hold the butterfly needle in place, etc., etc. so I'm reasonably nervous, but I do what I need to do. The gentleman who drew my blood was warm, friendly, chatted me up while taking my blood, and made me feel as comfortable as I could in the situation. I barely felt a thing. I wish I knew his name, but he was spectacular and I couldn't have asked for a better experience! TL;DR: Great experience, 15 minutes in total spent waiting and getting my blood drawn, fantastic phlebotomists. Highly recommend. read more

I came here early morning as a walk in. Super easy check in process and was in and out in about 15 mins. The phlebotomist drew my blood no problem and not overly friendly read more

This CPL location is the place where I go to get my arms stuck 1-2 times a year (with a grain of salt, for the same test EVERY TIME). It ain't fancy, but it works. Suffering from low blood sugar from fasting and then driving across north Austin doesn't generally make for a pleasant morning. However, I've never waited more than ten minutes for a needle and I usually get in and out quickly. They haven't had billing issues with me and I switch health insurance and address almost every time I go. The people who stick aren't the most cordial or pleasant early in the morning, but they do their job efficiently. They tend to be pretty decent about ensuring that my bruise site is pretty minimal and then shoo me out ASAP. My blood-drawing partners are always good people-watching (they get you 1-2 to a room depending). Pros: No parking fees (unlike my old blood lab of choice), lots of parking, quick service. Cons: A bit like a blood-drawing sweatshop. read more

The location in the Women's Center- Ste. 102 Pam is the best! She made me feel comfortable the entire time she drew blood. Great bedside manner!!! read more

I received a collections letter from a company for labs that I was not billed for. CPL replied to my complaint that they didn't have my correct address. How did I get other bills in the past then? This situation seems very suspicious, and they lost a customer. I will not return to a CPL ever. read more

Slow and impersonal. Obviously understaffed for a very busy location. Been waiting 45 minutes with no end in sight. Gave 2 stars instead of 1 only because the staff are trying. read more

I have had some horror stories when it comes to giving blood, but Mona did an amazing job. The whole process took less than a minute, she was super gentle and found my tiny veins in an instant. Mona had it all done before I had a chance to say "ow!" (Which I didn't!) I will definitely come back here if I ever need blood work done again. read more

There used to be two locations on Renfert and I always went to the other one, which was warm, friendly and very efficient, but I gather because of COVID there is now only this one. I didn't find it helpful or friendly and after the many wonderful experiences I've had with CPL was really upset by this one. I evidently committed a sin by telling them that I am a hard stick! No problem... they ignored the information. They were upset as I asked not to use my hand or the crook of my elbow as the veins don't cooperate. Instead of one of the older techs drawing my blood, they had the student do it. She got the needle in just fine, but when she when to remove it she poked the needle through the back of the vein which then caused a swelling an inch high! One of the older techs watching commented "that it was just a hematoma and would go back down". It took over two weeks to go down and hurt all that time, including the bone in my arm! I have never had that. I will use CPL again, but not this office! read more

I visited this particular CPL on a couple of occasions in the past 2 years, and there was always some very rude guy with short brown hair at the front desk. He was very snippy about the check in process. Leave your anger at home dude. Anyway, I went back about 9 months ago, and had the worst experience ever! I am so done with these folks. Unsanitary, which is scary in a lab setting. I'm still freaked out over the last incident that I had at this particular CPL. Anyhow, done, done, and done. Not worth the health risk, even though this location is more convenient due to it's proximity to my doctor's office than the one by my house, but ya... ain't happenin'. read more

CPL has the WORST billing practices. Please be sure to verify any bill you receive from CPL with your insurance company! As a long time medical biller, I knew my bill was incorrect. Verified the actual issue with my insurance and called CPL and told them what to do to get their bill paid by insurance. Bottom line, they billed me when the insurance statement they received clearly stated that it was not patient responsibility because the claim was still pending their corrections. Horrible billing department....check before you pay! (this is for the billing office, not any particular location) read more

I thought I would come to this location since it was closer. Wow this lab is far understaffed. I fasted for Chlorestorol labs, so starving. When I got here in the morning, It was so packed no where to sit. Came this morning and was told it would be an hour or more. Went next door to check something for 45min, came back she said sorry I just called your name. You will have to get in line again.... Seriously? Never coming back.... read more

So ask for Paul or Destinee... Clean, digital check in, fairly quick processing time

Horrible customer service. 45 minutes just to check in at front desk. Has gotten worse over the past year.

I had a good experience at this CPL location. Patrick was very pleasant and help break the awkwardness of getting your blood draw over a 3 hour window. Its not fancy, but I felt it was clean and efficient. read more

Wish I thought to get the girls name but I'm a very hard stick and she's gotten me on the second try the few times I've been WHICH I appreciate. Leaving looking like a bruised pin cushion is never cute. read more

Bad. So bad. With the exception of Ebony, the people who work at this location are 1) not great at their craft and 2) not happy to be there. I have been going 2-3 times a month for many months. Trust me, I waited to form an opinion--and wanted to like it because it's close to home/work. Each time someone is careful, strategic, or polite (doesn't just poke like trial and error), I record their name so I can ask for them the next time. Not surprisingly, 2 out of 3 times, that person will be gone--moved on to something better. On to the actual blood draws--don't bother telling them where people usually find a good vein or that you need something special for your very tiny veins (like a heat-pack or butterfly needle). They will inevitably ignore you and exhaust their two-poke allowance before passing you off (often with a rude remark about how it is somehow your fault) to someone else. Also, don't expect a proper bandage; if you are headed to work or another public place, you'll have to carry your own because here, it's a lump of gauze and actual masking tape all the way. Finally, never go after 4 pm. I've learned this the hard way. The closer it gets to 5 (closing time), they faster they carelessly exhaust their "4-poke policy" and tell you to come back another day or try a new lab. Worst of the worst. On those days, if you have "problematic" veins, you will leave with 4 bloody bruises because of how careless they are when they rush. It sounds like most of their positive or neutral reviews are from people who are "easy draws." The true test of their professionalism and skill would he how they handle the more challenging cases. In my case, they fail. read more

The worst lab place ever. The receptionist spews out incorrect information and acts so pissed that anyone is there. The phlebotomists Ive had are not experienced/not good and it takes multiple tries to get a vein (and collapsed veins at times) and/or creates more pain than other places I've gone to. If you must go to a CPL, find another location. If you don't have to go to this chain, you will not regret going to a new one. read more

This place is terrible. If you need to get blood drawn or some other test, try another facility or another CPL location. Each time I come here (about 4 times over the past 2 years) it has been INCREDIBLY slow. It's more likely that you'll die of whatever ails you faster than you'll get called back for whatever test you're having done. For example, today I was just dropping something off. The doctor had already collected the sample, completed the paper work and was just sending me down to hand it to them. That's it. HAND IT TO THEM. They made me sign in and sit down for 25 minutes. 25 minutes! In that time, 1 person was called back. Finally I went up to the front because I had an appointment I had to go to. The tech was like oh...well I guess I can take it. At least he was somewhat helpful. The woman I first spoke to was just plain rude. Avoid this place like the plague. read more

Super unhelpful, untrained, and uneducated. Receptionist and lab techs had a 10 minute conversation about how many and what vials they'd need, then called the doctor and said they couldn't help me there. Just walk across the street to the hospital, they said. Just find the lab IN THE HOSPITAL and they'll be able to help you. Whelp, would have been helpful if you'd told me about what entrance or near where to go so I didn't waste another hour of my life hiking around an enormous hospital to find two other hospital labs. Finally the path lab showed me where the and have them show me where the other CPL was. **PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CPL IN THE HOSPITAL HAD ME IN AND OUT IN 10 MINUTES AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO NEED FOR ME TO HAVE HAD TO HAVE A BLOOD DRAW AT THE HOSPITAL!!** There was no special procedure and my doctor did tell me expressly to go to ANY CPL. I am so sorry I chose this one. read more
