I came in for my annual and she made the appointment a pleasant one. The office is very clean and well decorated. I felt like I was in someone's home. This was one of the most disheartening and discouraging healthcare experiences I've ever had -- and what makes it worse is that it was my first time seeking help for my mental health in over 15 years. I grew up in an environment where asking for help -- especially when it came to medication for mental health -- was seen as a weakness. So it took everything in me to finally overcome that and make an appointment. After a particularly overwhelming six months, I built up the courage to be honest about what I was struggling with and what had worked for me in the past. I wasn't demanding anything -- I was simply trying to communicate openly, hoping for a supportive and respectful conversation about my care. Instead, I was met with judgment and ultimately rejection by Harley Berning. She initially prescribed me a lower dose of the medication I mentioned -- no concerns or hesitation. But after I followed up with a message asking if this was the right plan going forward, everything changed. My prescription was suddenly revoked after it had already been sent in and paid for, and I was told she could no longer continue my care. It felt like I was being punished for being honest. I was mischaracterized, dismissed, and made to feel like I had done something wrong just for asking questions and advocating for myself. That kind of distrust -- especially when someone is finally trying to seek help after years of struggling -- is incredibly damaging. This experience didn't just shake my trust in one provider. It made me question whether I should have ever reached out in the first place. And I imagine I'm not the only one who's walked away from One Medical feeling like this. If you're someone who's anxious, vulnerable, or trying to overcome the stigma of getting mental health care -- be careful. I wanted this to be a step toward healing, and instead it left me feeling worse than when I started.

I recently wrote a review for my new AWESOME dentist and it had me thinking about my AWESOME…read moredoctor, Dr. Sorensen. I'm surprised there aren't any reviews of her yet - she runs a small practice but she's a big deal. My first appointment with her was last fall. I was overdue for my annual and, like any normal human being, wasn't looking forward to it. A good friend recommended her with a glowing review. My intention was to call the office, just to ask if she was accepting new patients (she only accepts 600-800 so I figured my chances of getting in were slim). Much to my surprise, Dr. Sorensen was the one to answer the phone! That impressed me enough that I scheduled an appointment for the next week. My first impression of Dr. Sorensen was excellent, and things only got better from there. She literally does everything - she is a one-woman staff, which means she does everything from checking your vitals to dealing with insurance. This approach means that you get to spend more time with her, which means that you feel like anything but just another patient. She also takes a conservative approach to medicine, so when I told her about my occasional anxiety, she recommended things like yoga instead of jumping to more invasive/expensive treatments. Best part of my experience with her? I ended up having a bit of follow-up work the next day, and was obviously concerned about the results. She got back to me the next morning to let me know all was OK and thoroughly explain everything. And the day after that, I got my pap results back. That's right...TWO DAYS after my appointment I got my pap results! I'm used to waiting a minimum of two weeks. She called as soon as she got the results because she didn't want me to worry longer than I needed to...wow. If you are looking for a doctor who uses modern technology (online scheduling, mostly paperless, etc.) but won't provide you with the typical, cold doctor's experience, I strongly recommend Dr. Sorensen.

My initial visit was very through and the Dr took as much time as was needed to understand my medical history, make suggestions, ask questions and actually sit down and have a conversation! That is impressive in todays world. Her practice is purposefully small, self-managed and her interest in medicine and people is clearly visible in how she runs her business and treats her patients. I nearly fell out of my chair when I called to schedule an appointment and Dr Sorensen answered the phone herself. Unheard of! She also makes herself available on nights and weekends to answer calls or come to the office in case urgent issues arise. I believe she truly cares about her patients and wants to manage her practice with the best technology and information available to her. She leverages technology to allow her to have the time to treat the patients, rather than using technology as a crutch to fit more patients into her day. I was thoroughly impressed with Dr. Sorensen, her sense of professionalism was first rate and she has a compassionate manner that is ideal for families looking for a Family Practice. If all small businesses could be run in the same manner Dr Sorensen is running her business, we would have a true sense of what community really means.

Doctors are not gods, they are limited in their knowledge based on how much they keep up with advances and aren't clouded by their narrow political views. Many ARC doctors are limited based on these criteria. I'm very disappointed in my general care at ARC. However, based on the drought of medical professionals in Austin, I doubt one might find anything better here anytime soon.

Margaret L Hemmen, APRN,FNP-C. Worst visit ever…read more I had a very disappointing experience during my visit. From the moment the doctor came into the room, she made virtually no eye contact with me and seemed completely uninterested in listening to my concerns about my health. I left feeling dismissed, unheard, and as though my questions were an inconvenience to her. When I asked questions, her responses and demeanor made me feel as though I should already know the answers or that my concerns were common sense. No patient should be made to feel uncomfortable for asking questions about their own health. Part of being a healthcare provider is making patients feel heard, respected, and comfortable enough to advocate for themselves. What makes this even more frustrating is how long patients often have to wait for an appointment and how hard we work to afford healthcare, only to finally be seen and walk away feeling like we didn't matter. I work in healthcare myself, and I would never want a patient to feel the way I felt after this appointment. After reading other reviews describing very similar experiences with this doctor, I'm even more disappointed that these concerns appear to be an ongoing issue. If a provider has reached a point where showing basic compassion, patience, and concern for their patients feels like a burden, then perhaps it is time to reconsider whether patient care is still the right profession for them. I sincerely hope the practice takes this feedback seriously because patients deserve providers who listen, communicate, and treat their health concerns with respect.
