What a phenomenal place!…read more I had bought a rather expensive leather dress on sale, upon removing the security tag, I realized that the tag had covered up a noticeable, fairly serious "rip" in the leather, enough that I was prepared to let it go...but then took a leap of faith that someone might be able to fix it, negotiated another 30% off and walked home with it, where I proceeded to breath into a paper bag while googling for someone to fix it...oh yes, that would have been a 30% discount tied to a "final cannot bring this back ever" sale. After some yelp reading and internet searching, I ended up at the doorstep of Helen's Leather on Beacon Hill and what can I say....they were great. I emailed them some photos, they responded very quickly, I dropped it off and Lisa, the owner, did a PHENOMENAL job. Yes, ALL CAPS on that one. I mean, look at the before photo. It is the same dress, just shitty lighting, one is nighttime with no flash and one is daytime sunny day. But let's ignore the color, you can barely see that there was damage!! It was also very affordable and quick! Super place! I could not be more impressed and intend to take a few other leather products there!

The store is smaller than I thought but that wasn't an issue because their inventory is amazing…read more Boots, jackets, hats, belts, they have it all and they have some pretty amazing things in there. I bought a belt, 3 leather jackets and some boots. My uncle wanted a pair of cowboy boots so I took him here. The employees are so kind. We went in on a Saturday. When I tell you the customer service is AMAZING I mean it.

This is the first time in my life I have owned a pair of shoes worth taking to a cobbler. It may…read moreseem like a small thing. But it's just not something I have ever done. So I was a bit nervous. I walked in with my favorite pair of boots in hand. They were worn down and sported ripped shoelaces. I needed help. I was greeted very pleasantly and helped immediately. I said I needed new soles and laces. I got a few options on lace color. I picked something standard. About 15 seconds of looking at the damage ensued. I was told all in it'd be $50 for new soles, laces, and a polish. A way better deal than buying new boots. It felt like a bargain. I paid the sum in full and was back a few days later to pick up my boots. They looked brand new. I put them on and still felt the benefit of the several hundred miles I've already logged in them. A fresh new start.

I have never written a review like this before and I won't pretend there are no spiteful feelings…read moreon my part, that would be a lie. However having gone through what I just did though and knowing the generally good reputation this business has, I feel like I owe it to others to at least try to get the word out everywhere I can and hopefully stop someone from making the same mistake. I had gone to Dave's once before and despite some customer service issues(they somehow lost track of the shoes for a few days) I was impressed with the repair job so I wanted to give them my business again. I took in the shoes my husband bought specially for our wedding to address a few scrapes from a fall he took during the reception. When I picked them up yesterday, they looked different in a way I couldn't place right away but the scratches were better and I had to get back within my lunch hour so I paid and left. It didn't process until I saw them out of the bag at home that they had totally polished over the unique burnished finish and made them a uniform dark brown, completely removing a large part of their charm(see the photos of the brown shoes I'm uploading for reference). My husband and I were devastated. We're not rich, nice shoes like these were an investment piece for him and held sentimental value for both of us. It could be they saw this as necessary to cover the scratches, I can't be sure. What I do know is that I was never asked or even told about it. Even all that by itself might not have been enough to get inspire me to write this review though, that is owed completely to how they handled it. I called them to complain. I won't lie, I was still upset and it probably showed in my voice. I made a very active effort to keep my words civil though and explained the issue plainly. I wasn't interested in anything except an acknowledgement and potential advice to fix this. Once I finished explaining, they hung up on me. I called back, ready to give them the benefit of the doubt that it was an accident (even if I doubted it personally). They picked up and immediately hung up again. Disgraceful. Entirely Disgraceful. To the owners: I took the shoes and paid you, I acknowledge that and realize I don't have the power to do much here. However, as someone who works just around the corner, I am going to do my damnedest to caution anyone I can away from you. That probably won't do a hell of a lot, but I like to think you won't get off entirely scot-free for treating me like garbage. If it also helps someone else stay away from my mistake, even better.

After checking out his reviews, I decided to entrust my Louboutins to him & boy am I glad I did!! They were brand new and I had them re-soled on the bottom to prevent scuffing and wearing of the infamous red sole. The after pictures I have provided are the shoes after a couple wears, so excuse the dirt. My Brian Atwood's were in terrible shape as you can see. The heels of every pair I have (and I have 3 ) wore down immediately after a few hours of walking. I recommend to change the heel tips immediately before use. ( I lost mine walking in Boston but thankfully I had an extra pair of flats with me!) My strappy Judith Lieber's snapped on the side as you can see. I was devastated and almost contemplated glueing them myself. I did not want to ruin the diamonds with glue, however so I brought them to fix. I'm soo glad I did. This cobbler's needle work is so intricate! I'm certain that particular loop won't snap again! In sum, if you are a shoe-a-holic like me and are in desperate need of a cobbler but don't know who to trust your babies to, don't hesitate to come here! The shoes' repair altogether cost me 50$. I also got 3 extra holes punched in two of my Gucci belts and it cost $1.50. Highly recommend. Stay fab & happy shopping! X

Beacon Hill Shoe Instant Repair was up for the challenge, didn't even mention it being an issue. The owner sourced completely new bottoms (w/ extra traction as my primary mode of transportation is walking - didn't even have to ask him for that), new heels, fixed some niches in the leather, cleaned up the entire shoe and even fixed the zippers when I didn't ask. They look unrecognizable! Unfortunately, I don't have any "before" photos but next time I will. Very, very affordable too! I was quoted much more, for much less work at other shops. (He typically writes the price on the ticket he gives you when you drop off your items, so you aren't surprised with price fyi). Will be going back, I have like a dozen shoes I need fixing. Also I really like the ambiance of the place! The owner is very hardworking, thank you so much!!!! :)

Also, I am not a pen fan as the the fountain pen was for my boyfriend. Compared to other shops, Montblanc seems a bit unprofessional. I wanted the pen engraved and my salesperson had it all packaged for me, unpolished... She seemed to have forgotten I wanted it engraved. I got the said pen engraved to be picked up a couple of days later. When I got it, it seemed like they did try to at least wipe it of finger stains this time. However, no cartridge was in it... As I found out after I gave the gift. Surprise surprise. I was shocked since when I bought it I asked for a black ink cartridge when she asked if I preferred black or blue. I didn't try writing with it when I got the pen as I didn't want to increase any finger smudges on it.. Or have ink on it. Wen I called, they offered to ship me ink (after the present was given...sigh...) for $8 charge. I might as well buy it straight from the Montblanc website. Overall- lackluster service for a nice product. If you want to go in for convenient location- go here. Otherwise, I'd go to the Montblanc on Newbury St.
