Lots of good things happening here and the wine is beautifully made by a great winemaking team in Walla Walla.

If there were ever a masterclass on being a top-notch sommelier with exceptional customer service and storytelling skills, Eric would be winning awards. I arrived slightly early in the day when the place was still empty -- expected for a weekday -- and was warmly greeted by him. He asked where we'd like to sit and promptly began the tasting. It was an absolute delight. In the short time I spent there, I learned more about wine than I have in my entire life. Eric was incredibly knowledgeable and thoughtful in how he explained everything -- it all just clicked. My husband did a white flight, and I did a red, and together we were able to sample a generous range from their collection. We left with a bottle of Poet's Leap, which we're excited to open soon. The vineyard itself is beautifully set, and while it's a bit of a drive, it's more than worth it. The interiors feature stunning glasswork and have a chic, modern feel -- including the facilities . Long Shadows is now firmly on my list of must-visits and will be at the top of my recommendations for anyone heading to Walla Walla. read more

Fantastic Pinot and Chardonnay. A great discovery on our wine tasting weekend last August

After several years of visits, Long Shadows is no longer on our Walla Walla must-visit list. This review is for the July 2025 visit by us three - one of whom was a first-time visitor. Three elements contribute to the experience: the wine, the ambiance, and the people (staff). The quality of the staff has dropped considerably. WINE: 4.0. Long Shadows wines are consistently and solidly satisfying. AMBIANCE: 4.0. Nice facility set in wheatfields, with attractive south-facing views. Inside and outside seating. SERVICE: 2.0. The quality of the college student summer staff we encountered during our Jul 2025 visit was considerably lower than in past years, deeply undermining the entire experience. They appeared to dislike both their work and their customers. Superficiously nice when we arrived, but then becoming defensive and scowly. Moreover, as I was waiting outside for my partners, the outdoor staff were grumbling among themselves about the day's various customers, and about the need to clean up before leaving work. read more

Located about 12-15 minutes from downtown Walla Walla, this is an elegant place to taste wines. While the tasting room is spacious and beautifully laid out, there are not a lot of seats inside. So definitely make a reservation so they can set up an area for you and be prepared. They can accommodate large parties too. (And I imagine, they even rent the space for special events because it truly is beautiful inside and out.) The decor plus the Chihuly art really is lovely - modern / elegant, but not stuffy. While driving to Long Shadows we were surprised that it was not surrounded by grape vineyards. The rolling hills looked to be farmland for grains that had already been harvested. Situated up on a little hill, the outdoor patio has a lovely view of the area. It struck me as very serene because I had a sense of "quiet" envelope me when I took a moment to enjoy the view. We were greeted and seated immediately upon entering. I had made a reservation, so they were expecting us. There were 4 of us so we did 2 white tastings and 2 red tastings. That way we could all get a little taste everything. There were 6 different reds and 4 different whites. I particularly enjoyed their Sangiovese, Riesling and Rose! These were the ones that hit my palate just right where I wanted to keep drinking them. That's when I know I like them. That I want more. Hailey was our host and guide, who did a lovely job of explaining the wines and answering our questions. Like... where are the grape vines since we don't see any around the building or road we drove up? hahaha! She smiled and said that they source their wines from different vineyards from the different areas of Washington... such as Yakima, Columbia Valley, Red Mountain, etc.... I ended up buying a mixed case of wine, so the tasting fees for the 4 of us were waived. read more

Beautiful location and delicious wine. Honestly, each wine I tasted was incredible, and the charcuterie plate was well thought out and well presented. The service was disjointed. First, I was brought out the final wine. No big deal, I like Rose wine. Then a different server started the flight, and did a great job explaining the first two wines. After the second wine, he apparently bowed out because he was "new", even though he was doing a fine job, and a different server took over. Again, no big deal. But she then brought out two white wines at once, even though I was still working on the reds. At one point, I had four pours of wine sitting in front of me and was left alone for a long time. Some thought and care needs to be put into the service here, especially when I'm paying nearly $100 for the experience. read more

Long Shadows is one of my favorite Washington wineries. Gilles, the winemaker, is impressively adept at his craft. This is one of the few wineries where I absolutely enjoyed every bottle that I tasted. Feather is my personal favorite bottle, but my friends all had their own! Sequel, Saggi, Piroette, Poet's Leap, and Julia's Dazzle were all favorites among our group. Not only was the wine fantastic but the venue, ambiance, and service were all outstanding. We had a delight talking with Karin throughout the tasting. She was a joy to talk to and incredibly well-versed in every detail over every pour! The room itself feels Chihuly museum paired with a posh living room. The location is just outside of downtown Walla Walla and feels nestled away from the rest of the world in its own moment. I can't wait to come back and feel so grateful to have had the best day and an experience that made this trip one to remember! read more

It was a pleasure to visit Long Shadows today. I participated in a tour and rating in their remote, beautiful location west of Walla Walla. The winery is all about collaboration and learning about the different creative forces that go into their wines was fascinating. The wine is unique, they have a very French influence but also mix up their approaches. Feather and Pedestal were my favorites but I also enjoyed Saggi (Italian) and their flagship Chester-Kidder. Long Shadows was one of my three favorite stops (along with Northstar and Moonbase). read more

We were cordially welcomed by Anya, our newlywed wine serving specialist who made us feel like friends enjoying a glass of wine with her. She fielded our sometimes random questions and offered lots of info on the wines, but didn't overwhelm us. We enjoyed a visit from the head wine maker, Gil, who helped us with our French pronunciations and shared some laughs. The patio and tasting room are gorgeous and there are windows through which to watch the winemakers work. And of course, there was a wine for all tastes. My favorite that day was the Juliet Rose' as it was perfect to follow the bicycle ride we did from the winery previous to the tasting. The group especially enjoyed the Syrah which was perfect to sip as we watched the sunset and the shadows lengthen ;) read more

Great place! The weather was a cold 51 when we visited and a foggy day. Nice tasting room neatly decorated with some works of chihuly. We were informed the owner of the winery is friends with chihuly. As for the wine tasting they had a good combination of mostly red wines. Most of the wine is from other wineries in the area and at least a couple of them were made in collaboration with winemakers from Italy and France. Overall we had a great time. read more

We had some of the best wine and staff we have had at a winery in Washington here. We started with a crisp white that had a good balance of acidity. After that, we had an assortment of reds that all were very smooth and had great tannins. What made this so good was our server who really knew his wine and was very well spoken. You can really tell when someone is passionate about what they are talking about and he definitely was! He was also very generous with the pores and the tasting fees. We were going to get wines anyway but instead of making each person buy wine, he let us wave any of them that added up to the bottles we bought. That being said, the bottles are a bit pricy for our end. They were very good so if you are a wine collector or really appreciate wine it is worth it, but they ranged from $45 - $130 which was a bit high for us. We ended up getting two whites which were very reasonably priced at $20 each. Overall I highly recommend them if you enjoy wine! read more

The BEST tasting room experience I've ever had! I work in a tasting room so I do consider myself somewhat experienced and picky AF. Our server was Noah and he was everything I wanted in server! I'm a student of alcohol and he was very knowledgeable and happy to get into cork dork territory. I HIGHLY recommend getting a charcuterie board. Noah and the team pick out items that pair PERFECTLY with their wines. The whole point of pairing is for the food and wine to elevate each other and the effect is quite magical and they've pulled it off spectacularly! I've never had such excellent pairings in a tasting room or on a tour even! I forgot to mention the wines...they are excellent! There's something for every one whether you're a whites, Napa snob, or lover of old world styles. If you're a sweets drinker you've got one option. Although I did notice that Washington wineries are not producing a plethora of sweet styles (where I work there is a very high demand for sweet). Your one option is VERY interesting though as it's botrytized! Very rare to see this style outside of Sauternes or Tokaj. If I were stuck on a desert island and could only pick one tasting room to be on the island Long Shadows would be my pick! Do yourself a favor and visit!!! read more

Note: make a reservation! Better safe to, though every once in awhile you can grab a tasting without one. We went in July and had a wonderful experience. We had gone to the one in Woodinville many times and it was our first time here. First off, it's beautiful. Lots of Chihuly glass artwork and views of the outside fields. You can peer down to their production facility through a large window, where the wines are produced. The lady who did our tasting was friendly, knowledgeable and responsive and didn't pressure us to get our own tasting or buy any wine. It's $20 to taste the flight and more expensive than what most of the other tasting rooms charged in the area, but worth it for the experience and to taste some pretty delicious wines. I've been a huge fan of Feather for years and fell in love with Saggi this time around. Their wines have some pretty cool stories of how they came to be (partnerships with other winemakers from around the globe) and it was interesting to hear them again. Highly recommend! read more

And then the wines.... LS partners with expert winemakers around the world, focusing on the grapes they know and love - unique way of doing it vs. the others. The wines were EXQUISITE from top to bottom -- Feather Cab, Pirouette, Pedestal Merlot, and Chester Kidder... I couldn't decide which ones to buy, and ended up laying down the bucks for the BOX. This winery is unique in it's story. If I remember it correctly, they bring in different winemakers and let them do their thing which allows them to showcase a wide variety of wines. Due to the fact that there is not a single winemaker, it doesn't really have a winery feel to me, it feels more like a fancy tasting room. That being said, the tasting room is beautiful and the decor is meant to make the customer feel that the $20 tasting fee is justified. Our "host" was extremely personable and fun. He loved doing accents and was fun to engage. He certainly made our visit less pretentious than it could have been. We enjoyed the wines we tasted and even managed to find a couple to buy which negated the $20 tasting fee. read more

Our expectations were set high when we booked our visit to Long Shadows Vintners in Walla Walla Washington. Our experience fell short of 5 stars based on our servers knowledge of the wine and in some cases the wine itself. The tasting room and the grounds around the tasting room are beautiful. Our experience included samples of many of the Long Shadow portfolio with the ability to revisit and or try some of the more inexpensive whites. We knew some of the winemakers behind the wines but felt the wines they represented fell short in structure and flavor profile. This is an example of why they say it all starts in the vineyard. These winemakers signature wines represent an area outside of Washington and wines within Washington will in fact take on a different profile than that of such areas as per se Napa. With that said, we did enjoy many that were poured. Our favorite by far was the Sequel. This Syrah was nurtured by the likes of John Duval who's work with Penfold Grange qualifies him as a master in the arts of Syrah. Questions regarding the making of the wines as well as Long Shadows itself were met with some confusion. As we learned, our server was new and his knowledge was very limited in the area of winemaking and the Long Shadows brand itself. Although a very nice person, we were hoping to learn more about Long Shadows and the winemakers inspiration behind the bottles they represented. When we checked out we were happy to learn that the tastings were comped because we purchased a bottle of the Syrah. A big tip was given to our new server and we provided many words of encouragement. Our visit to Long Shadows was a fun experience and well deserving of 4 stars. We might visit again, but will bring some friends along to share the fun. read more

For our group, Long Shadows earned best in class for wine, tour and service. We loved it so much, we also joined their wine club. Their reds were big and bold; their whites were clean and crisp. On the tour, we tasted out of a couple of barrels that were also delicious! And I learned things I never knew before. Long Shadows Vintners is a collection of seven premium Columbia Valley wines all made at this Walla Walla location. Founded in 2003 by Allen Shoup, former executive with wine behemouth Ste. Michelle in Woodinville, whose concept was unique; give some of the world's finest winemakers access to the grapes, ask them to specify requirements for production and invite them each to make a wine at Long Shadows. Looking forward to the chance to sample all of these masters-of-the-craft wines in one place, we still arrived for tasting here as skeptics about the winery. Perhaps in part because Long Shadows' marketing materials tout the Chihuly glass tasting room décor and we wondered if this was going to be a just "too full of themselves" experience introduced by deep pockets from Seattle. We have visited Walla Walla several times over a dozen years and have always enjoyed the grace, lack of pretension and the sense of 'community' at tasting rooms. (As example, our favorites are Pepperbridge, Amavi and Saviah.) But we were fans of the tasting at Long Shadows and recommend it to others as part of the spectrum of Walla Walla winery experiences. We enjoyed the visit, although not likely one we'd repeat as we do tastings at our favorite wineries. THE DRILL: Reservations are required. There are two types of tastings. *Portfolio tasting - $20/person for seated tasting in the Chihuly glass decorated tasting room and you are poured each of the 7 wines made here. Plan an hour for this tasting. *Inside Story tasting - $40 / person starts in the Chihuly tasting room for the 7 wines plus cheese, followed by a tour of the facility and back to the tasting room for additional 'special selections'. In either case the tasting fee is refundable with a purchase of $40 / person. Bottle prices range from $20 to $65 for 750ml. Magnums available in some as well. SERVICE: Alex was the wine room host who poured for us, a young man who was cordial and also wise about winemaking and these wines to answer our questions. His hospitality added to the experience. Pours were paced just right, we were not rushed, we were asked if we wanted to revisit any of the tastings as we decided on our purchases and given there was no reservation behind us needing our seats, we were invited to linger as long as we liked. WINES: Many of the wines are sold out for retail purchase, but bottles have been held in reserve for purchases by customers of the wine tasting for tasting room sales. All of the wines were wonderful to taste; reds will need a little cellaring to be perfect. *Gilles Nicault, the winemaker responsible for the splendid Poet's Leap Riesling poured here (and at a bargain price of only $20 / bottle) is director of winemaking oversees operations of the winery, He also makes the Chester-Kidder, a Cab / Syrah blend (name derived from surnames of two female relatives dear to Allen Shoup) and Saggi, a Sangiovese / Cab blend. *Randy Dunn makes Feather Cabernet Sauvignon *John Duval makes Sequel Syrah *Philippe Melka makes Pirouette, a Bordeaux blend *Michel Rolland makes Pedestal Merlot FACILITY: Located on the west side of town, up the hill from Cougar Crest winery. The tasting room sits on a rise and parking is down below it. There is a staircase bordered by a cement path ramp, so if you can't hike stairs (I can't as I have MS) the ramp is available. The tasting room is lovely with views all around and a Chihuly art piece hanging from the ceiling, two others in front corners and another at floor level in the front window. We are fans of Dale Chihuly's work. It was delightful to have some here. You can also see down into the production and barrel room from a big window at the inside wall of the tasting room. Seating is at tables and also at small sofas and easy chairs and it is assigned prior to your arrival. So take a look at the tasting room photos and if you have specific seating in mind, ask when you make reservations. There were also some cement tables on an outside patio. There was inclement weather on the day of our visit; don't know if they use them in summer good weather months. ACCESSIBILITY: One ADA parking spot in the lot. Long ramp up to the door. Tasting room is on one level. Most seating is at standard height tables or coffee table height. Loo is accessible. Don't know if the tour is accessible as I didn't take it. WINERY NEIGHBORS: Nearby westside winery neighbors include Cougar Crest, Reininger and L'Ecole. NEARBY EATS: Cugini is not too far from these west side locations. Walla Walla Italian family owned and operated, open Wed thru Fri 10-6 and Sat 10-5 for market sales. Two visits over three days affirms their five star status. The facility itself is drop-dead gorgeous. It's architecturally interesting, spotlessly clean and features an extensive Chihuly art glass exhibit in the tasting room. A perfect environment for what was to follow. Alex Ponnaz - gives one heck of a tour. He is very knowledgeable and shares as much information as you wish to absorb. He was also very generous on the wines he suggested we taste from barrel. Gives a great tasting. Another shout out to Nina Depiesse who invited and encouraged us to come back on Saturday to meet Gilles Nicault director of winemaking. We did and had a really wonderful visit. This was a warm and wonderful visit. Oh - we're almost newbies to Long Shadows. And still so genuinely welcoming. I enjoyed visiting this winery during Holiday Barrel, but there are a couple reasons why I probably won't return. The first being the appointment thing, luckily we didn't have to make an appointment since they were open to all for Holiday Barrel. But if we would have, that might have been a deal breaker. The other was that the tasting fee was $15 instead of the $10 we experienced at other area wineries. That's fine, but then I was told I needed to spend $200 in order to get my tasting fee reimbursed. I thought that was kind of high as well. Again most places are just a bottle. Their wine was quite good, just a little out of the price range I am comfortable spending. All that said, the winery was beautiful and the staff was very nice. Their snack bites were the best of all the wineries we visited that day as well! I think it was a good experience and I am glad we went, I just probably don't need to go again. read more

We visited Long Shadows for spring release. Beautiful winery with spectacular art. The tasting fee was a little high for Walla Walla, but this is a high end winery. They also had a nice spread of nibbles. For the spring release, they had multiple tasting stations set up throughout their production area, as well as small tables where you could stand and chat. We especially enjoyed the 2014 Pirouette (cabernet around $60/bottle) and their 2016 Julia's Dazzle Rose (about $20/bottle, which has become our summer favorite. The Poet's Leap Reisling was also good at around $20. We should have joined the club and are looking forward to a return visit! read more

Great facility. Website reported 5:00 closing; we arrived at 4:06. The "greeter" immediately stated wine tasting ends at 4:00. We stated we'd simply like a glass of wine; she enlisted a server. She brought a taste of Chardonnay. We did not care for it (prefer totally un-oaked). We sat for 10 minutes without further acknowledgement. When our server came back, we let her know we felt like we were intruding. She asked if we'd prefer outdoor seating. We moved outdoors & a different server brought us a taste of cab (while chastising the fact we did not care for the Chardonnay ). We did not care for the cab. Without further interaction, we felt unwelcome. We left $40.00 and departed. Our main objection...we did not feel welcome, and we were ignored. In all, we consumed less than an ounce of wine. read more

This winery is outside of Walla Walla, and in the middle of wheat fields. It's very modern and edgy. They take reservations on the weekend because the tasting room isn't too large. It has BEAUTIFUL Chihuly Glass Art. I guess the CEO of Long Shadows is best friends with Dale Chihuly. They have big windows in the tasting room so you can see where they make the wine and the barrels. We had about 5 tastings. They were all very delicious. I like when they pick grapes from their own vineyard right outside the tasting area, but the wines are from Washington and all over. Each wine has one winemaker, so they're all very limited and exclusive wines. The gentleman pouring the wine was extremely knowledgeable. Since I was there for a bachelorette party, we weren't looking to be extremely educated about the wines. The tasting room got very loud when it was crowded, which made it hard to talk. Maybe early on the weekends or during the week to avoid crowds. read more

Wines were great but service was poor. Try some great WA wines elsewhere, see Chihuly art in Seattle..... Once seated, the non-consistent staff could not keep track of what we had tasted and where we were. They had limited info on each wine and were not conversational. Just directed us to the tasting sheets. Only winery we visited that asked nothing about us. It was like pulling teeth to get info from the staff. Poor acoustics in the room meant we could only hear the table of ten and not each other :( Overall, one of the least enjoyable experiences out of numerous winery visits in Walla Walla. read more

We went over to taste today and the girl that was pouring said they were full, although she had only 3 tables of two seated. Holy crap these guys are pretentious. $20 tasting fee, which I guess is ok even though it's higher than much more prestigious wineries. But we came with 6 and there were literally no people in the tasting room, and they had the gall to ask if we had reservations. When we replied no, they also looked at us like we were insane for even attempting to taste without a reservation. This place has its head so far up its you know what, they are likely enjoying their pretentious lunch for a second time. Snooty, Napa AVA attitudes don't fly in walla walla. read more

OH BOY, what a let down. Not a good experience and wine was subpar. The two tasting room people could not have been more different in their approach to guests: the girl needed some charm education and how to smile while the boy was outgoing and friendly. guess who we got? the girl. she seemed too busy to care that we were there to buy wine or could be interested in more than what was written on the tasting sheet. to make matters worse, the wine wasn't great.
