We did the tastings, cave tour and charcuterie boards experience with Kayla and she really knew all the history/details of the wine, business, and overall site. A little on the pricier side to book but by far the most luxurious tasting experience we've had so far. This was the 2nd visit to a Figgins tasting for two of us; for all three of us it was our 1st visit to the new tasting facility in the vineyards. During our next visit we plan to book the "Experience the Caves Tour & Tasting". AMBIANCE: 5.0. Best view among Walla Walla wineries, in our experience. Outside and inside seating available; inside seating had floor-to-ceiling glass on three sides. SERVICE: 5.0. Mature server with long history at Figgins. Kayla provided rich explanations about the wines, the history of Figgins, the family behind Figgins, and the construction of the winery and its cellars. There were many fascinating details in her presentation and in her answers to our questions. Kayla's measured delivery ensured that the Japanese visitor (and wine expert) among us could easily understand the explanations. WINE: 4.0. We enjoyed the Toil-brand wines, especially the Pinot Noir Rosé, and found the (non-Rosé) Pinot Noir deliciously unique as it was prepared in somewhat of a Bordeaux style. We dropped in rudely, without a reservation, but the woman doing the tastings was lovely, willing to accommodate us if we were quick. She had a group arriving in 15 minutes. The Figgins wines were elegant and silky, very refined compared to other Walla Walla wines. We bought a few bottles as the group arrived. Next time, we'll make an appointment and take our time. My favorite stop in Walla Walla. Consistently excellent wine throughout the tasting. We were served five great wines - three under the Toil Oregon label Chris Figgins also runs, plus two from the 32-acre Figgins Estate property here in Walla Walla. Upon request we were also served a sample of the Figgins Riesling (Walla Walla AVA). Considering the consistently excellent wine and generous pours, I was grateful the tasting fee was refunded with bottle purchase. The highlight, however, was the deep winemaking knowledge of our host, who spent virtually the entire time talking with us. We asked a lot of questions and she had a lot to share, without any pretentiousness. I learned a lot and really enjoyed the visit. The Figgins story is an interesting one - it's a boutique side project of Chris Figgins (as is Toil Oregon), lead winemaker of the excellent Leonetti Cellars. His passion shows and I like that every wine with the Figgins label comes from the same 32-acre Walla Walla site. Every wine we tried was truly excellent. If I were to do it again I might do a day where this was my only stop and drink all of every glass, then call it a day. A few things to know: a Google search shows the beautiful vineyard where the wines are sourced, but the tasting will happen in an agricultural office park. We went during COVID so we were on the edge of the parking lot, adjacent to some open space, with a shade and a mister to help with heat. (It was adjacent to some pleasant open space.) The experience was so excellent I quickly got over it, but this is not the beautiful tasting overlooking rolling hills" kind of experience. Second, prices are a bit toward the higher end (I say this knowing everyone's standard is different.) It was $25 for a beautiful Pinot Noir rose at the lowest end to $40 for Chardonnay to $50 for the Pinot Noir, $55 for the red blend and rising to $85 for the flagship red. Prices are appropriate for the quality, but I also appreciate beautiful wineries like Amavi that have a broader range of wines under $40. Just something to know but I recommend visiting even on a budget, and getting a really special bottle to look forward to and therefore waiving the tasting fee. Overall, my top pick of seven wineries. read more

This is my favorite wine from Walla Walla. It doesn't have a fancy tasting room but the quality of the wine surpasses all. It's one of the only places where I liked every wine we tasted. We bought the estate red and the Riesling- I cant wait to open them! I can't remember the name of the young woman who did our tasting but she was lovely and professional. We were incredibly lucky to get in for a private tasting Mother's Day weekend. What a lovely experience. Beautiful wines and a very knowledgeable young woman named Ragine(?)... She taught us so much in 50 minutes, was professional, fun, and engaging. The tour of the production portion of the facility was a surprise and really fascinating. A lot of horsepower in a small space! And lots of nest stories about barrel naming, etc. Our time there was unpretentious for what we thought would be a winery that only takes appointments. And the wines...just wow! The whole experience was truly intimate and special, and the estate reds are exquisite right out of the bottle. Many thanks for a wonderful hour of time. Cheers! read more

Was shocked that our party of 4 still had to pay for the tasting fees after buying several bottles of expensive wine. We will not return. There are a lot of wonderful wineries to visit in Walla Walla. I'd recommend you miss this one. read more

She walked us through and impressive flight, and was extremely knowledgeable about all of the wines. She was so friendly, and really made the effort to ensure our experience was topnotch! RaeJean took us on a tour of the facility, as well. She was able to answer any questions we had during the tour and then some! We had an amazing tasting experience for 8 of us during spring release weekend (normally they don't do tastings/tours for more than I think 4 or 6, but they graciously accommodated us). We tasted the Toil Pinot Noir (a sub label) that was delicious and will soon utilize estate fruit. We were lucky enough that they were tasting a few vintages of the Figgins and some of the older ones are drinking amazingly well right now (absolutely need some time on them). We also got to try their white wine which was delicious as well. We all bought multiple bottles as it was such a fantastic experience. Can't wait to head back. read more

Tasting at Figgins will feel unconventional when compared to mainstream wine tasting in Washington. First, make sure you make a reservations. It's easy to do through the website and the folks running the site were very prompt in confirming our request. Second, it's off the beaten path, even by Walla Walla standards; they're located in a plain brown building (that doubles as a production facility) in an industrial district near the airport but not near any other wineries. Finally, you'll taste only one or two wines. If you can get past all of that, though, you're in for a treat and some darned fine wine to boot. Our tasting began with a brief tour of the production facility led by our two hostesses, Jessica and Sam, who were both well informed about Figgins wine, wine in general, and about all of the goings on in Walla Walla. After the tour we were seated at a table and poured two wines. The first, an Oregon Pinot Noir from Toil (a sub-label) was a beautiful light purple and smelled of strawberry, cranberry, mushroom and rose petal. It was very delicate on the palate and drank like a cool climate Burgundy. The pour was generous and really gave us a chance to get to know the wine. Our second, final and similarly generousl pour was the 2012 Figgins, a red blend that is Cab driven and supported by Merlot and Petit Verdot. This was a big, luscious red with cherry and cassis up front on the nose, supported by charcuterie, leather and other savory notes. The palate was similar and showed a long finish. Both wines were outstanding. I would have to really stretch to find something negative to say about tasting at Figgins. The wine was excellent, our hostesses guided us through the tasting skillfully, and the $10 tasting fee, comped with a purchase, was absolutely reasonable. Yeah, it's only two pours but the wines were great, the pours hearty and the Figgins name is enough of a BFD in Washington wines to have justified jacking up the fee. There's a lesson in there for a number of wineries. All of that said, this is a top tier tasting made available for a $10 fee, and I would hope anyone reserving a tasting did so with the serious intention to buy unless the wines genuinely weren't to your taste, and you should go in knowing that the wines aren't inexpensive. You'll pay $85 per bottle of Figgins and the Toil is available in a three pack for $150. Bottom Line: This is a great opportunity to taste some excellent wine and kudos to the folks at Figgins for making it available. If you're serious about trying some serious wine, then you should reserve a date. read more
