I don't eat out much because I'm picky, vegetarian, and broke, but this place caters to all of those limitations quite well. Good food, good prices, genuine fake meats. But it's the service that I most appreciate. So far, they've seen me with a cold, on a bad date, and grumpy - not my finest moments - and been just as cordial and attentive. This place has some awesome food! Wide variety of vegetarian items that you can share with a large group of friends. I went in with 4 of my friends we ordered 4-5 dishes to share. All of them tasted super good and the meat substitutes didn't have a weird texture at all! I would love to go back and try a few more dishes in the future. I have been going here for decades. Since the late 90's. I recently went to their new location and was impressed with the consistent quality and expertise with Vegetarian cookery. Way back when - it was a spectacular thing to have Vegetarian Orange Chicken - now there are more places offering those type of dishes but are they doing it as well as Long Life ...nope. There is a depth of flavor and cook technique that is superior. This orange chicken is CRISPY- is savory - with a hit of dried orange rinds that hit your tongue with a pop of sweetness.. the beans are crunchy with garlic black bean sauce that is the bomb and the rice always perfect .. not mushy- not dry - just perfect. I'm a sucker for fried, vegetarian Chinese chicken and it's something that you don't find a lot of places. Thank God for Long Life Vegi House!!! I've ordered the orange chicken, and the tofu with vegetables so far. Both dishes were tasty, packed in lots of flavor, and neither was over salted or too greasy. Because I ordered it as takeout, they asked me if I wanted the sauce for the orange chicken on the side- which was great because I was able to heat up my leftovers the next day without anything being congealed or soggy. Gluten Free Ordering: At this vegetarian Chinese restaurant, they use veggie based meat substitutes for chicken, pork and beef. ONLY the veggie-chicken is gluten-free. So all beef and pork dishes are off limits. But tofu and chicken are good to go. So here's a GF order... get sweet and sour tofu - ask for it fried, and ask them to leave off the Hot & Sour soup (has soy sauce), the egg roll, and the fortune cookie. They give you a choice of either brown or white rice. Both are GF. Total before tip on the bill was $5.40. How does this place stay in business? That's ridiculously cheap. Yes, the service was not too helpful on the gluten-free front, and it wasn't the best Chinese food I've ever had - but at that price point I'll probably make it back. read more

As of this review, i have only been to Long Life Vegi House twice; once as an eat-in and today was to go. Both times I have ordered the broccoli with Vegi chicken. The eat-in experience was a pleasant one. I was seated at the table right next to the window so I could watch the passerbys as I waited for my order. They served me hot tea and a cup of hot and sour soup which was perfect since it was a cold day. When my meal came, it seemed to be almost spilling off the plate. At $6.52 (without tip), it's definitely worth your money. The only slight letdown was the Vegi chicken was a bit salty which is why I ordered it again as to go to see if it would be different. The to go order was ready within 10 minutes of ordering which is perfect for me as I walk from work to here and only have an hour lunch. They give you a flat box with a napkin, fork, and fortune cookie on top. You could tell they just made it by the warmth of the bag. I couldn't immediately eat it and took a small walk while I was it and at one point I realized there was an fried egg roll in there as well. I expected that it would be soggy and the thought made me a bit sad, to be honest. I got back to my office and opened the box. It was filled to the top and not just with filler white rice. This restaurant loads on their broccoli and Vegi chicken (and a few pieces of carrots and bamboo) which I appreciate since the broccoli is the reason why I get this dish. The broccoli is so crisp and green; you can just see the freshness before even taking a bite. Oh, and the egg roll? It was somehow still crispy despite being put on top of the white rice and the condensation from the box! If there was more consistency with the vegi items and saltiness, I'd considering re-reviewing for 5 stars but for now, it's a solid 4. And as someone who loves eating meat, this is a nice alternative that still fills me up. read more

Icky egg roll. 7 days a week, from 11:30 AM - 5:30 PM, they offer their Vegetarian Rice Plate for $4.55 + tax, which comes to $5 EXACTLY. Our bill was, literally, TEN BUCKS. This daily rice plate luncheon special includes soup of the day, spring roll, and entree with brown rice. To Go doesn't include the soup, and orders after 3 PM don't include the spring roll. I ordered the BROCCOLI VEGI-CHICKEN, and my friend ordered the BROCCOLI VEGI-BEEF. We're ambitious, aren't we. Food came out in TWO MINUTES. We took about 15 minutes to eat. Then we realized we had class in 7 minutes, so we asked for the check. 30 seconds, BAM. 2 to-go boxes and our check plus fortune cookies. We packed up and bolted out the door for class. We got hot & sour soup, and I liked the tofu strips. The spring roll is NASTY. It tasted like rubber, no joke. Blarrrgghh. The brown rice was yummy! Both entrees came with plentiful broccoli and carrots, but not enough faux meat in my opinion. The vegi-chicken was good though! Both vegi-meats are flat square shaped, since they're chopped from a huge block of vegi-meat. The vegi-chicken imitated chicken pretty well, although it was obvious that it was NOT chicken. But the texture was interesting, and it was enjoyably edible! I didn't think the broccoli vegi-beef was that good though. It tasted too tofu/soy-y, and the texture was rougher than the vegi-chicken, in order to imitate the toughness of beef. Spacious layout with a high ceiling and good sunlight. Plentiful seating! Five dollars that paid for my lunch AND my dinner, so you're getting some large portions! If you want cheap meat dishes, go to May Flower Chinese Restaurant, but if you're craving some cheap fake meat dishes, come here! Sadly, I discovered this place my last semester of college, and I wish I had discovered it earlier! It's cheap, has quick service, and the food is pretty good. Plus all the food is vegetarian--score! The lunch special is an awesome deal. The Lunch Special: I would recommend actually eating here for the food and not taking it out. You get a regular sized entrée, hot & sour soup and a spring roll for just $6. They also serve you tea. All the food they give you is freshly made and steaming hot. I usually get the tofu with broccoli and spicy garlic sauce---it's the perfect balance between savory and salty. The tofu was well made (sometimes a rarity!), and the spring rolls and soup are great compliments. They give you SO much food for the $6, a meal could easily be 2 meals. The atmosphere: During lunch this place can get busy, but it still maintains it's quiet atmosphere. Most of the tables are large dim-sum family style tables, so you may have to end up sharing with someone, but the tables are so large, it doesn't really matter. I called to order my food, the lady picked up on the first ring and I was caught off guard and had to ask if this was the correct restaurant. I went ahead and ordered the veggie spring rolls and sweet & sour veggie chicken. I asked her for my total and she said $13! After reading great reviews I just had to try it although I felt a little sketchy about the price, being that I go by the " you get what you pay for" saying. Long life Veggie house is a mile away from home so I thought it would be a nice bike ride out of the house. Got there in 20 minutes and to my surprise my food was hot and ready. I love the funky cool pinkish red entrance door. Inside I got a 60s-70s feel with the old school table cloths and round tables. The lady greeted me right away and already knew I was here to pick up my order. I enjoyed the environment and contemplated on staying. As I put my food in my bag, I asked why one of the boxes were slightly open, she said to keep the crispness of the food. I shrugged my shoulders placed everything in my bag & headed home. When I arrived home, my order was so much bigger than I expected! I recieved 4 spring rolls and a huge container of veggie sweet and sour chicken all for $13!!! What a great deal. The sweet and sour sauce was separate from the meal and I liked how I can put how ever much I wanted because they give you more than enough. My first time trying sweet and sour veggie chicken was amazing, the food was still fresh after my bumpy bike ride. The veggie chicken gives a crunch taste with the mixed flavors of pineapples, bell peppers, and onions I almost forgot I wasn't eating real meat!! At first I didn't know what I was gettin into since everything on the menu said vegi-meat, but I heard that it was really good and it actually tasted like meat just without the fat XP The lunch special is SUPER filling because of the amount of delicious brown rice and I eat alot. So far I've tried: Szechuan Vegi-beef - The sauce is pretty good and had good meat to rice ratio Kung Pao Vegi-chicken - Good but not spicy enough even when I told them to make it spicy Mongolian Vegi-beef - ^ Same as Kung Pao chicken Honey Walnut Shrimp - Only 6 or 7 shrimp but it tastes amazingly sweet and yummy and I used the sauce with my rice with made that much enjoyable Overall, I love this place because its so cheap and fast and because the lunch special goes until 5:00 EVERYDAY. read more

OHH EFF YEAH! This place is so fantastic. I never liked Chinese food in my younger years - it was only three to five years ago that I decided I really liked it. But now that I'm vegetarian (OK, pescatarian), some of my favourite dishes are no longer able to be consumed. Not so with this place! A friend took me here and we had orders of: steamed white rice, broccoli beef, sweet and sour pork and orange chicken. The rice was good, standard. Broccoli beef was EH. But it's not like it was bad. In fact, I don't like cooked broccoli and this particular broccoli was AWESOME because it was cooked only slightly, but still fresh and kind of crunchy (aka the best way!). The fake beef tasted kinda gross (chewy?) but then again, there's a reason I stopped eating beef years before I went veg ish. Sweet and sour pork was savory and tasted like the real thing. And the orange chicken... a staple dish but always hit and miss depending on the place. Well, it was right on here (even though it looked kind of funny). The total bill for our meal came to $25, and that was AFTER both of us having multiple helpings of everything and almost dying from overload and STILL having leftovers to take home. I hate to do this to a vegan/vegetarian restaurant, but I've got to give a 2-star review for Long Life Vegi House. When I was at the restaurant, enjoying some orange chicken and sweet sour pork, I thought the food was great. The scallion pancakes were actually my favorite part, some of the best I've tasted since I've been on the west coast. But the next couple of days, my body suffered the consequences. I won't go into details, but the ingredients they use are simply not quality. It could be too much oil, or MSG, I'm not sure. But I eat at a lot of vegan asian restaurants and have never felt so physically off afterwards. Maybe something was just off in the food I had, which is why I'm giving it 2 stars and not 1. I'd give this 2.5, maybe a little lower. Prices are decent, flavors aren't there, too many shortcomings. To me I'd rather pay a little more and be satisfied with the food if it really comes down to it. And considering the competition that this place has in the nearby area for vegetarian food, it doesn't compare. So on a whim I went to visit family and they decided to get take out from here. It worked out well for me since I was curious about trying this place before as I noticed. From what my brother had been mentioning, this place is one of the better ones pricewise. Frankly, he's paying for it so technically it is free to me haha. We had the wonton soup, spring rolls, vegetarian chow fun, and a vegi chicken stir fry. The spring rolls are like spring rolls you can get at most places, vegetarian or not, since they're usually filled with slices of carrot and mostly lettuce. The soup was good, the wontons were not. I'm not sure what kind of vegetables made it in them but the wontons felt really doughy instead of the usual wonton wrapper texture found in most places, and the insides were grainy. The grainy texture was off putting, I'd equate it to dry falafel balls past the point that sauce can save them. The vegetarian chow fun was meh as well. Balance? Non existent. Most of the box was chow fun noodles. I'd say of actual veggies put in there were just two individual bok choy with their leaves separated. The parts weren't even cooked together honestly since the bok choy didn't have the same flavors, and was pan roasted not stir fried like the chow fun noodles. The vegi chicken stir fry was okay, just thrown together in a wok though and cooked with a brown sauce where the veggies still didn't really carry the flavor. The vegi chicken had good flavor but many places have started carrying products like this. I'd rather have the whole dish be good and not buy it for just those slivers. Overall, everything lacked some kind of cohesiveness or had one element that took away from the food. Even while being cheap, the price to satisfaction with this was pretty low. Perhaps if I came here for lunch, it would bring the price margin up since I would pay less instead but for dinner I doubt I would return. read more

An okay experience with fake meat. I've been vegetarian my whole life and if there's one thing that's always got me on edge, it's fake meat products. Vegetarian Chinese restaurants are practically the only places I've ever had favorable experiences with fake meat products. My roommate had been hyping long life veggie house for a while and so I had pretty high expectations when we finally went. We ordered kung pao chicken, orange chicken, and fried rice with chicken (keep in mind it's all fake meat) and veggie spring rolls. The only thing I liked was the orange chicken, the rest of the dishes were only okay. I was a bit disappointed with the taste, but the portions were generous and I think that it's worth going back to try something else on the menu. read more
